So tomorrow sees the release in cinemas of 'Yesterday', a new film written by Richard Curtis and directed by Danny Boyle, inspired by and using the songs of The Beatles. Himesh Patel - best known to Buzzjackers as Tamwar from EastEnders - plays the lead character Jack Malik, a struggling singer/songwriter who wakes up after a freak accident and discovers he's the only person left on the earth that remembers the fab four and promptly becomes an overnight star by claiming the songs as his own. Lily James from Mamma Mia 2 is also in the film as Jack's manager/love interest, as are Ed Sheeran and James Corden in cameo roles.

It's already had great reviews from the critics who've seen it, and Richard Curtis films have had a knack in the past for translating hit movies into hit soundtrack albums and singles off it. The soundtrack was released last Friday and is already in the top 50 midweek this week, with The Beatles' chart topping '1' album from 2000 just above it and back in the top 40, suggesting both could be in for a big climb next week.

Given the success of 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Rocketman' this year and the soundtracks from these, and also 'A Star Is Born' last year, could 'Yesterday' be next?

I'm actually really excited to see this film this weekend - I've booked to see it Sunday, I'm a huge Richard Curtis fan and I grew up around a lot of The Beatles' music so I think it's in with a good shot.

Top 5 I suspect. Post-film streams will be too split between this soundtrack and The Beatles' GHs for this to claim #1 (see also the Queen and Elton films). I know that didn't stop both Mamma Mias but I don't think this has as much hype.
I guess it could in a quiet week but Lewis Capaldi is still going strong.

Gone for top 20, don't think it will be that big tbh. Would be happy to be proved wrong though.

And the critics' response hasn't been that great - only 62% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I said Top 10, I think The Beatles 1 album will do very well out of this if the film becomes massive. I'm looking forward to seeing the film, but I think it'll be overshadowed by Toy Story 4.

Think it could do well if the cast recordings are any good and the film does similar to mama mia 2, but with big releases from ed sheeran and others in the next few weeks it would have to get to number 1 next week so i played it safe went top 5

Top 10 for next week. Top 5 peak in week two or three.

I can’t see it going to #1 because like Rocketman it’s the actors take on classic songs.

Glastonbury could also have a big impact next week too which makes me feel this will climb to its peak.
