BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 30th May 2020, 09:24 PM

Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande could make it two weeks at #1 with Rain On Me, helped by the album release, with DaBaby once again being their closest challenger. Tion Wayne's I Dunno featuring Dutchavelli & Stormzy will be among the new entries, while ROSALÍA collaborates with Travis Scott on TKN

The much anticipated Chromatica is certain to become Lady Gaga's fifth chart topping album. Other new releases include Aitch's EP Polaris and Kygo's Golden Hour plus albums from Alec Benjamin, Alestorm and Freddie Gibbs + The Alchemist

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

Amazing! I knew it was going to be huge!

Gagas sales already!!!

Already higher than Joanne and A Star Is Borns debut weeks!

Posted by: lewistgreen 31st May 2020, 10:09 AM

Lol at that gap *.* we stan

Posted by: LMLou 31st May 2020, 10:11 AM

That’s insane for Gaga. She probably outsold Joanne’s full opening week on first day sales and streams alone

Posted by: HausofGhibli 31st May 2020, 10:12 AM

That is genuinely higher than I thought it would get all week!!?

Posted by: Jordan Lee 31st May 2020, 10:13 AM

Gaga coming for the biggest first week sales of 2020 so far albums wise?

Posted by: 777666jason 31st May 2020, 10:14 AM

Probably got it already then even if she didnt sell another copy this week tongue.gif

Posted by: dan-G 31st May 2020, 10:15 AM

insane sales!! but so deserved.

already outdone Gerry Cinnamon who she was originally going head to head with so we clearly had nothing to worry about there.

would be very pleasing if she could get the double too but even if ROM is number two at least it had its week at number one.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 31st May 2020, 10:20 AM

She’d have likely beaten The Killers to #1 as well had they not pushed back.

we have a pinned thread with all the sales figures for every number one album of the year.

the fastest selling album of the year so far is BTS who did 37.9k which Gaga will definitely overtake by tomorrow.

Ed done 125k

Ariana done 65k with thank u, next to get the biggest female opening sales of 2019 though followed by Taylor on 53k and then P!nk and Billie Eilish opened on 48k each.

I highly doubt it! The sales will be hugely front loaded from fan pre-orders. I think ~60k might be possible?

Around 65k would be what I’d see as being as much as it could do at max.

But this should easily outsell her last two solo albums total sales smile.gif

Posted by: SKOB 31st May 2020, 10:49 AM

70k is possible if they get the physicals in stock properly.

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 31st May 2020, 10:52 AM

Amazon hasn’t had the deluxe at all...

It’s now saying in stock on the 12th and that’s the top seller in albums so it’ll be a shame if they don’t rush this in stock for the first weeks sales

Posted by: Fruity 31st May 2020, 10:53 AM

I'm in shock at those numbers..?!

Posted by: Maestro 31st May 2020, 10:58 AM

I'm pretty confident Rain on Me will be #1 on the first look tonight and probably on tomorrow's update as well. However I don't think it'll have enough of an advantage to stay there by the end of the week

do we think Chromatica can do 100k first week or not?

Posted by: omrimayo 31st May 2020, 11:59 AM

Her UK debuts

#3 The Fame 25k

#1 Born This Way 216k

#1 Artpop 65k

#10 Cheek to Cheek 10k

#3 Joanne 27k

#1 A Star Is Born 31k

So maybe it will be higher that her last 3 albums opening weeks COMBINED.
Yeah ASIB made her HUGE again as she deserves. LOVE HER!

10k for a number 10 album oh how album sales have fallen

Posted by: benswift 31st May 2020, 12:48 PM

how did BTW do 216k first week? was it a similar situation to 99c albums on amazon as it was in the US?

Posted by: dandy* 31st May 2020, 12:59 PM

I don’t think so. Artists tend to have their biggest opening weeks with the album that follows their most successful era.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 31st May 2020, 01:00 PM

I'd love gaga to clear 50k she should easily beat the 1975 opening sales so I'm hoping close to 40k at the least.

Of course she’ll clear 50k now, she has 5.5 more days sales!

Lady Gaga was as big as Es Sheeran as is now back in 2011. So if Ed could conjure up 400k+ ish sales for Divide, it should make more sense as to how easy it was for Lady Gaga to garner 216k sales for BTW back in 2011.

Posted by: Cognizant 31st May 2020, 01:09 PM

Insane sales for Lady Gaga!

I’m going for 55k-60k sales in total; so she should clear Taylor Swift’s 53k.

On the more optimistic side, I’d say it could clear 65k-75k.

Posted by: Cognizant 31st May 2020, 01:10 PM

So even if Gaga sells 3k each day from now on (she is obviously going to sell WAY more than that) than she would have cleared 50k in total which is very impressive.

If it's narrow already then Rockstar is 100% this week's #1. Oh well, at least the song still got there in the first place even if it won't be a multi-week one (it'll be her first to only spend one week at #1 too).

DABABY FEAT. RODDY RICH- ROCKSTAR [14,577]

Rain On Me might do a Bad Romance and get another week at the top after falling from the top spot.

Gaga returns to dance music and has great success

*shocked Pikachu face*

The question really is why it took so long, I got the impression she didn't really want to be the Gaga of The Fame Monster. That it was a platform to do the more 'legitimate' music with Tony Bennett and Josh Homme.

Posted by: SKOB 1st June 2020, 12:08 PM

It's not that simple. She HAD to break away from the dance pop - there was huge backlash against her and her music during the late BTW/ARTPOP eras and even her manager left her. The versatility she showed with Cheek to Cheek, acting, Joanne and Super Bowl are essentially reasons why she was able to do such a comeback in the first place.

Posted by: Cognizant 1st June 2020, 12:22 PM

I hope this arbitrary, virtue-signalling ‘music blackout’ on Tuesday doesn’t affect the sales for Chromatica.

I think it’s a nice idea what’s being planned and a huge mark of respect but I don’t think it’ll translate that much into the UK.

It would’ve had more of an impact if they done it on a Friday (like a new music release day). But it may end up being more of an event in the US.

Posted by: T Boy 1st June 2020, 12:34 PM

Coming from a non stan perspective, I think Gaga’s backlash was because of her believing her own hype and putting pressure upon herself to reinvent the wheel, particularly around the Artpop era. She stripped it back and ASIB once again highlighted her talent and that there was more to her than just the gimmicks. Right now I see a Gaga who is having fun and enjoying herself and so are her fans. And Stupid Love and Rain On Me are just good pop songs there to be enjoyed which is all she ever needed to do. It’s good to see her see a reversal in fortunes.

So Lady Gaga did 5k on Sunday so if she averages 3.5k for the next four days (Mon-Thurs), she’ll end on 54k which is a VERY respectable first week for an artist 12 years into their career and also beats the first week for Taylor Swift’s Lover last year (53k).

#01 ARTPOP ~ 65,608
#10 Cheek to Cheek ~ 10,469
#03 Joanne ~ 26,694

Posted by: bluebitchboy 1st June 2020, 05:07 PM

Thrilled to see Vistas at no11. Such a perfect indie pop album, it's almost a shame they aren't better known as I know so many people would love their music. Hopefully their time will come.

I actually thought Alec Benjamin was more popular than his album probably barely selling 2k in a week? He is someone I've played a lot on Spotify over the last couple of years. Mind you, I don't think this is a great album. Some nice singles, but nothing as strong as 'boy in the bubble' and some of his earlier songs.

Posted by: dan-G 1st June 2020, 05:08 PM

ah, another classic case of inconsistency by the OCC.

my guess is they consider 'Shallow' not as a Lady Gaga song but as a "Motion Picture Cast Recording" song, as the parent album is credited to "Motion Picture Cast Recording" rather than Gaga & Cooper, therefore it doesn't count towards her total of three and can chart separately.

It will (assuming it does have the 25% increase ofc) - this has happened a couple of times before with older singles returning to the chart a week after their album release because they get the reset even though they weren't among the artist's eligible songs in the album release week (biggest example being Ed Sheeran's 'I Don't Care', also happened for Post Malone's 'Sunflower' and maybe others I am forgetting).

DeadBanana.gif make it make sense

I'd almost understand this decision - except still not really - if the album was still appearing in the main albums chart, but I would have thought that it being blocked would mean that its songs count to their credited artists rather than the album as a whole having its own 3 allowed songs, similarly to how JACKBOYS were able to get 5 songs in the chart from their EP due to the weird inconsistent crediting. I guess there is maybe a different rule for 'soundtracks' than for 'compilations'? Or maybe they literally just flip a coin to decide these things for all we know lel

Posted by: jimwatts 1st June 2020, 05:27 PM

As ASIB is now classed as a compilation, in the same way as Black Panther was, wouldn't that make Shallow count as a Lady Gaga lead and get starred out for the same reason as Pray For Me?

Posted by: Bjork 1st June 2020, 05:30 PM

sure it should be starred out but it's the OCC we're talking about, they're incapable of being consistent

Posted by: Zak 1st June 2020, 05:30 PM

I believe the rule is about 3 songs per album not 3 songs per artist. Shallow is fine to be there.

Posted by: Bré 1st June 2020, 05:32 PM

No, it definitely is (supposed to be) 3 songs per artist. The OCC's classification of which songs count towards which artist(s) is just extremely inconsistent.

For whatever reason, that appears to be the case. 'A Star Is Born' is credited to Motion Picture Cast Recording too, so it technically does not count as a #1 album for her (much to Buzzjack's annoyance).

Posted by: Cognizant 1st June 2020, 06:18 PM

Very annoying. But no matter how much we air our grievances about OCC, at least the general public think Shallow is a number one BY Lady Gaga- so that makes up for it a bit.

Also for all Gaga fans on this forum, Rain On Me has OFFICIALLY debuted at number one in the U.S giving Gaga her FIFTH number one there. Woo!!

Posted by: Bjork 1st June 2020, 06:31 PM

poor Bradley Cooper totally obliterated from history biggrin.gif

the OCC always have problems when an artist is not credited solo and they've allowed 4/5 songs many times recently (ie Guetta)
they're so useless they're probably incapable of separating Lady Gaga vs. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper

It can't be that. Rain On Me is jointly credited to Gaga & Ariana, and Sour Candy is jointly credited to Gaga & Blackpink, yet there are only three tracks from Chromatica in the chart.

It's 99% because Shallow is from a Motion Picture Cast Recording album.

not top 200 on Spotify (and hasn't been T200 for a while now)

on itunes it's not top 100, currently at #141

on Youtube, it's not on the daily top 20 published by kworb... and it's not on their weekly top 100...
but that's probably an error cos Perfect was #28 last week on the Top 100 Video Streaming chart...

Gaga closed her online store in the middle of the launch week... rolleyes.gif Meanwhile, literally all the other artists continue to sell their stuff on their respective websites, without giving a f*** about the protests or blackout moves... What a dumb decision. And the haters are still trying to force all of this not to affect her debut. dry.gif

Think about the bigger picture - Gaga as a person would want to tackle social injustice first before getting a few extra sales on her debut week as her morals are in the right place. She is very unlikely to lose out on the #1 debuts across the world because of one day missing out sales due to the strength of her sales already! Plus anyone who wants to stream or purchase the album has 6 other days to do so. I don't think anyone is losing out here?

And where's the conscience for the other artists? Only Gaga (and a few) should be harmed for supporting the movement, precisely in the week of the release of her new record, that she worked hard for 3 years? Not only will sales be affected, streaming will also be, and this, no doubt, will affect the debut of an excellent record.

I think Gaga realises there are much bigger things going on right now. Take note!

Posted by: dan-G 2nd June 2020, 12:12 PM

She already has the fastest selling album of the year, she's got nothing to be worried about.
Promoting such an important political issue is more important than getting a slightly bigger #1 lead anyhow and besides people can still stream and download the record..

Posted by: Bjork 2nd June 2020, 12:14 PM

if someone cannot order from her online shop today they will tomorrow, no drama
the loons all probably have 25 copies of the album each bought the day it was announced, not gonna get more now...
and sure that doesn't affect streaming, which is her main contributor now after the 1st day physical sales

and who cares... there are more important things in life

I don't fully understand if you're saying that Gaga either should just give up on the cause ("everyone else is doing it!!!1") and continue selling the album or that her action is pointless since it might affect her placing in a virtual list ranking the most popular albums of this week? A bit of a over reaction post drama.gif when she is clearly miles ahead of #2. The album is going to continue selling no matter what from other sources.

Of course all lives matter, but black lives have always mattered less in the way black people have been treated and that's what the point of the slogan is. But let's not get political on a Friday Chart Predictions thread.

This is exceptionally ignorant, whether you meant it to be or not. Of course all lives matter, but white people are not the victims of police brutality. Imagine seeing the fire department hosing down a house that was on fire. Should they hose down EVERY HOUSE because "all houses matter"? They do, but they are not on fire. Black people are being killed for their race. White people are not. I'd recommend doing a little reading up on the situation before posting comments like this in the future.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, it doesn't make sense for her to boycott herself in the album release week that she worked hard for 3 long years while 90% of the rest of the artists keep selling their stuff as if nothing was happening. She stopped selling her things, promoting her things and celebrating the deeds she fought to achieve, just for fear of being canceled by black twitter, is not fair to her art, because even if she does that, it will not change anything, tomorrow the world will remain racist, it's not being abrupt in this way that things will change.

She did it to raise awareness. It's a pretty simple concept. It's also a small token of course, it's not going to stop racism, but it's showing solidarity with the black community.

I'm sure we can all cope with Gaga's store being closed for one day of the week to pay tribute to all of the black lives lost as a result of racism.

Posted by: HausofGhibli 2nd June 2020, 08:37 PM

Gaga is at the point of her career where things like 50k sales over 48k sales are meaningless. If you are a Gaga stan (like some people are calling you), then really you are forgetting that one of the key reasons we as a community of "Little Monsters" stan this woman is because of how accepted she has made us all feel and how she has fought for equality and for us to have a voice. She is continuing that now for the black lives that are being denied a voice, or in the extreme cases we are seeing, a LIFE. Are we going to let that go for this week so she can sell a couple more hundred copies? No. She has taught us so much about humanity and equality - sales never once came into it, so let's remember that this week more than ever.

Also there is a thread to discussing the closing of the store, so take discussion here if needed: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=234942

But it's the truth, yesterday she got #1 on Hot 100, she always celebrates great deeds like that, and for fear of being cancelled, she stayed silent, and the only way she found to celebrate was retweeting a tweet from a rain of me composer, who is black, and who celebrated, without fear of being cancelled.

Posted by: Klumzee 2nd June 2020, 08:43 PM

This is going round in circles a bit for something that's not relevant to the chart :/

There's bigger things in the world for Gaga to be concerned about than celebrating a #1 single (and most likely a #1 album) currently.

Looks like the last one was 'Skeleton Tree' by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in 2016. There was also a re-release of Elvis Presley's 'The 50 Greatest Hits' that did it in 2017.

Really hope SC debuts at 18, just so it out-peaks The Cure and LoveGame. I'm petty, what can I say.

I hope she manages 60k before Friday and reaches Silver Certification in a week. Can't believe how well it's doing.

Looks like the last one was 'Skeleton Tree' by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in 2016. There was also a re-release of Elvis Presley's 'The 50 Greatest Hits' that did it in 2017.
Not to undermine her success but she's still about 20k off the opening of 'ARTPOP', no chance it'll beat that.

How about the last album to do that and finish behind two different number ones?

i didnt think it would go top 10 but was hoping for top 15.

I don't see why top 10 for Watermelon Sugar is suddenly off the cards? The track's still on the rise and I think it'll land higher than #17 - therefore getting a brand new peak - on Friday. Whether it'll actually go top 10 or not, I don't know, but it's looking certain to get a new peak at the very least.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd June 2020, 09:52 PM

i hope it can get a new peak on friday.

Posted by: Steve201 3rd June 2020, 09:55 PM

There so still a chance 'Watermelon Sugar' can climb higher if it keeps up with its weekly sales as others songs can go on ACR and that's without any further increases even!

Posted by: Jason 4th June 2020, 12:48 AM

Niko B now #44 on Apple Music and #29 on Spotify.
Top 35 is likely to happen on Friday then. w00t.gif

Hopefully they reduce it to 59p on Friday.

Unlikely to happen but a feature (or even a remix) could benefit it and propel it up the charts around the globe.

lol Watermelon Sugar drops for 1 day on Spotify and everybody panics and says it's finished ohmy.gif
I think it can easily go top 10, especially if HH supports it... right now, they added the song but it's just in the middle of the playlist
if they support it big time like they do with songs like Lonely or Break My Heart, sure it will go top 10

Posted by: dan-G 4th June 2020, 09:34 AM

yes.

Posted by: Nimbus 4th June 2020, 09:42 AM

Watermelon Sugar is by far Harry's best single, and it still has a lot of potencial in the charts.
It might not outpeak his previous singles due the streaming age (though I still think it's possible, it does sounds great on the radio + summery sound), however in the long run I expect it to be his best seller single.

biggrin.gif Well, of course. Due the "the streaming age" nature/tradition, which rarely favors 4th singles over its predecessors. Additionally WS is the 2nd single (or one could even say 3rd) after the album release (6 months ago).

Great tune indeed. I don't think the rap is bad in it, that seems to be a common complaint on Buzzjack. For me it is just as good as Rizzle Kicks' singles which I enjoyed too and as I have said before it is a similar style of UK rap track to theirs. It would be funny if it peaks at #12 though considering what he says in the lyrics.

Haha yes a #12 peak would be ironic considering the lyrics.

It has a nostalgic British/summery vibe to it. Really captures that feeling.

Curious if KSI would get the lowest #1 sales if Gaga didn't release her album this week.

Posted by: Bjork 4th June 2020, 03:43 PM

why the obsession with comparing Gaga's sales to Taylor Swift??

Posted by: Jordan Lee 4th June 2020, 03:44 PM

I wonder how Gagas sales will be tomorrow.

We have two days of data to be added on for the final update and then potentially physicals from her store top if they haven’t already been counted as well as paid for sales today from iTunes, HMV, Amazon etc.

I’m guessing it’ll outsell Lovers opening week tbh.

I’m definitely expecting strong longevity for this. Hoping she can get herself a second week at #1.

Her last pop albums went 1-9 with ARTPOP and 3-14 with Joanne so I’m definitely expecting better longevity than those.

It's 'Love Shine a Light' I think? It entered the chart at #50, climbed to #13 after they won, and then climbed again to its peak of #3 a week later. That was in May 1997.
