QUAVO!!! Why am I not surprised though?

Posted by: awardinary Jul 31 2017, 07:44 PM

Why do artists release two singles in quick succession? Unless this is the new double A side? huh.gif

SO SO here for both of these but especially the Young Thug collab.
Still loving her first two tracks, think I'll be loving the album.

I guess it is a double-A side to appeal to many formats and go with whatever ends up taking off.

Havana's out at the same time, just confirmed on Twitter biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan. Aug 3 2017, 04:16 PM

Both are out on Apple Music, and both are a bit too urban-leaning for me unfortunately. I think I can get on board with Havana, I'm liking the ska/reggae/2 tone influences particularly at the end of the song. OMG is just too trend-chasing though I think, and its the trend that I don't like at all.

Yeah I believe she is, there was quite a long list of names attached so I picked the most exciting ones!

'OMG' sounds so much like a Travis Scott song, so naturally I'm loving it.

oh my GOD at 'Havana' though! So f***ing good, can tell I'll have this on repeat. Jeffery heart.gif

That's 4/4 now, loving her so much as a solo artist, she's far more exciting than Fifth Harmony.
Love the artwork for both tracks too.

I've noticed this with other songs as well. I guess the songwriters often tell the vocalists exactly how to sing? idk

It'll because songwriters often record demos of songs first, so if a singer sticks close to the original they obviously end up sounding similar to whoever recorded the demo vocal. Happens so often with Sia penned tracks!

Ahhh okay. I'm interested to see how much input shes actually had on the whole album when it is released given she cited creative reasons as a reason for not wanting to be in a girl group and obviously shes said she spent a lot of time recording demos on her own while on tour with 5H.

First listen of Havana: I like Camila's parts but that's about it.

First listen of OMG: Reminds me of Formation but I think that's because of the production.

Posted by: Juliano Aug 3 2017, 05:20 PM

Havana is better. OMG is pretty meh, the live version made it sound better than the studio, but Havana sounds good both ways.

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 3 2017, 05:30 PM

Really liking both of these!! Would probably have preferred someone else over Young Thug on Havana because otherwise I'd say it's the better of the two, but I dislike his verse. Quavo on OMG sounds better, although overall I don't like it quite as much.

Can't get enough of 'Havana' 😍 love the vibe of it so much and Young Thug fits on it so perfectly.
Plus those TRUMPETS 👌🏼

Posted by: Jonjo Aug 3 2017, 08:20 PM

'OMG' is so good! I was not expecting this route for her. But it works ohmy.gif

'Havana' is also very good! Loving this Selena Gomez-type sound for her. Very interested to hear her album now!

Posted by: 13 Beaches Aug 3 2017, 08:59 PM

OMG is nice but it's nothing special. It sounds like every successful urban song out there.

Havana is FAB though! It has such an incredible vibe to it, can see it overtaking Crying In The Club for me in my affections quite soon heart.gif

Both are crap.

Posted by: Davidson Aug 3 2017, 10:20 PM

Both are pretty good in a 7/10 non-descript way.

'Havana' probably has more replay value though.

Posted by: troylovesmusic Aug 3 2017, 10:21 PM

I'm really suprised at how much I'm enjoying her as a solo artist after not really liking her at all in Fifth Harmony . Both OMG and Havana are two solid tracks !

Posted by: UltraRedLight Aug 4 2017, 12:43 AM

Havana is utterly fab, OMG certainly isn't.

Posted by: Red. Aug 4 2017, 12:44 AM

Really liking Havana a lot. Not as keen on OMG still listenable but much prefer Havana.

Posted by: Dexton Aug 4 2017, 07:53 AM

I'm quite enjoying her a solo artist now. So far she hasn't really come off as anything special and falls into the Selena/Demi/Miley category of "young female artists who release mostly generic singles with the odd exception".

OMG is generic and disinteresting, adding Quavo who is on just about every other song these days doesn't help this at all.

Havana is genuinely great though, a song like this suits her a lot more than OMG. Young Thug is a nice touch too.

Posted by: White Mustang Aug 4 2017, 08:00 AM

I'm also oddly enjoying her solo output as well despite loathing her contribution and attitude during her time in Fifth Harmony. I can't say I've enjoyed her live performances though because again she's continued the vocal acrobatics trend of adding in unnecessary shriek notes all over her songs drama.gif

I think album to be released in the next few months would be wise and continue her trend of features in the meantime.

OMG does nothing to stay with me and Havana sounds like a Selena Gomez reject, but I'll admit it's an earworm with a bit more warmth to it than Same Old Love, but yes, I get the comparison.

Neither do anything to make me remotely excited about her as a solo artist though. She's still very "eh *shrugs*" to me.

Posted by: mdh Aug 4 2017, 06:49 PM

OMG is shite (one of the first songs with Quavo on I've actively disliked!) but Havana is pretty good. Reminds me of what a Marian Hill collab with Selena Gomez would sound like.

Posted by: 360Jupiter Aug 4 2017, 06:58 PM

Opposite of you mdh, I'm enjoying OMG (title aside) best of anything she's put out so far.

Havana not bad either tho.

Posted by: Josh! Aug 6 2017, 08:49 AM

I like both of these lots, way more exciting that CITC which was a bit cheesy and not very ctachy either in my opinion whereas both of these are bops. Havana is definitely my favourite though as the Selena vibes are definitely strong, it kind of reminds me of The Wizards of Waverly Place song at times too (laugh.gif) - I hope they give this one the bigger push of the two. cheer.gif

Posted by: Liаm Aug 6 2017, 11:50 AM

None of these have anything on CITC which is still a total banger, but Havana is lush! OMG is fine I guess but it doesn't really suit her, whereas she fits really well onto CITC and Havana.

Posted by: cqmerqn Aug 20 2017, 09:47 PM

Havana is such an ear-worm!

Posted by: SevenSees Aug 29 2017, 12:29 PM

Havana is easily the best she's done so far, good shit! Please keep up that level of quality

Should be a much bigger hit than Crying in the Club hopefully (future top 5 in the UK I reckon)

Posted by: Liаm Aug 29 2017, 12:31 PM

Crying in The Club is still by FAR my fave but Havana should be huge!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Aug 29 2017, 01:00 PM

I really quite like 'Havana'! It's different (rather repetitive though).

'OMG' is just a heinous mess.

Posted by: jjake Aug 29 2017, 02:05 PM

'havana' is excellent

Posted by: Joshnat192 Aug 29 2017, 05:07 PM

I think that she has been stupid leaving the band. I can imagine that she was living hell, but you must be professional and think about the future, and left 5H when even the band wasn't consolidated (in terms of success) was a mistake. She reminds me a lot of Nicole, too early to going solo.

Btw all her material has been so disappointing, really average songs with zero personality and she is going now like 'I'm a really artis' and it is super boring. Poor her, she will flop and will be forgotten.

I have always drawn that comparison. I've definitely enjoyed the solo material more than I expected to - Havana being a definite highlight so far and maybe my favourite of the three we've heard.

Posted by: jjake Aug 29 2017, 05:29 PM

you're suggesting she should have stayed in a band that's falling apart and flopping instead of having her own individual identity / hits / etc

how absurd

Crying in the Club only done decently in UK it's flopped everywhere else I actually think even Down has done better than it in the US . I do think 5th Harmony is personally much better without her and she's much better as a solo artist tbf so it's a win win for everyone I guess .

Gold in the US and Aus and Silver in the UK (as well as Platinum in Brazil and Canada) I think can be said to be doing decently. Down has only gone Gold in Canda and Brazil. I know they won a VMA (with fan voting tho) and its not all about sales, but Camila stands in a much better place then them at the moment.

I'm with you on that - the atmosphere since Camila left seems a lot more bearable when watching them perform, chat in interviews, etc. They're always with each other as seen through their Instagram stories and it all seems so much more genuine now. The label are clearly pushing Cabello more than they are the group which is SO disappointing when they could have capitalised on the momentum they had going from Worth It onwards.

Depends what class as a big hit . I don't think it's personally been a big hit but it's done decently in some countries .

Posted by: JosephStyles Aug 29 2017, 06:26 PM

Crying in the Club has been big in the UK but it's barely made a mark in the US. I think Havana could be bigger though, so we'll see how it goes. Camila's definitely in a better position anyway, she's had four top 40 hits in the UK this year, three of which have gone top 20 and Havana is surely on its way there soon too. Havana sounds like the kinda thing that might break the US for her too. 5H in comparison seem to have hit a standstill, with Down doing pretty poorly over here and radio support already vanishing. It outdid Crying in the Club in the US but I'd say Camila will find it easier going forward as she's basically a new artist starting out, whereas 5H are going downhill.

It's called personal preference. People have different standards for voting. Some people like to use the scoring system as an all time measurement and some people like to rate the songs based on the rest of the album, whilst some like to do the latter whilst taking into account where they think they would be in all time rank. It's up to the poster. We don't HAVE to give the big hits higher scores.

The Camila hype right now reminds me of the 1D fanbase. Same issue, her songs have sold well and she comes across well, but they haven't really charted well yet. She hasn't even been anchored by even a (solo) top ten in any market yet. Sure, it might come, but Beyonce or even Nicole Scherzinger comparisons now feel a bit premature.

1D and Camila aren't comparable at all though - all of them have done better than her worldwide despite Crying in the Club being a hit. It helps that 1D were much bigger than 5H in the first place so they had a bigger springboard, but all five members have at least one top 10 hit, including two #1 singles in the UK.

I meant in terms of 1D themselves being heralded as a huge worldwide phenomenon but never really having any strings of successful singles, despite otherwise being seen as A-listers. Especially in the US, their biggest market; singles ran 4-DNC-39-DNC-3-33-46-13-2 for the first two and a half years. In the UK, with pulled-out-all-the-stops promo, 1-3-9-86-3-1-9.

More Than This is a bit of an unfair comparison as it only got a proper push in Australia (no playlisting in the UK for example), but I think you're underestimating them. Sure, they didn't get to #1 with every release, but their first nine singles all made the top 10 and all singles bar one made the top 20. The US is a kinda different story as some songs were pushed more than others (with Gotta Be You being skipped over entirely).

Nevertheless, with regards to the actual point, 1D lived up to their fanbase and namepower faaaar more than 5H or Camila have! tongue.gif

Well everybody said that she wasn't comfortable in the band, right? That she was hated for the others. What I wanted to say is that I can understand that be in the band was difficult for her, but since 5H isn't an established band she should had kept with them at least one more album, make the band more successful and then going solo.

She reminds me to Nicole because it was similar, PCD was huge everybody wanted more of the band and the rest of the girls and instead that they started to push Nicole as a solo artist. I guess that they should have wait at least one more album, they hype was around PCD not Nicole at that moment.

The only artist that has been successful as a solo artist after a Girlbamd has been Beyoncé, and Beyoncé was the star of D.C. during several years before going solo. I think these kind of popstars should follow Beyoncé's example if they really wanna be successful in her own.

I suppose their mammoth album sales must have counted for nothing?

Nearly a month later, I'm still loving Havana - such a tune.

Posted by: TMD_24Quavo Aug 30 2017, 08:02 PM

Well both was released as a doubled sided single but Camila has finally confirmed as expected that Havana is officially the 2nd single with OMG presumably just now a promo single.

I agree mostly with what you're saying but I completely disagree on the idea of her having more stage presence than Nicole though, I think Camila has always come across insanely irritating and like she was trying to be centre of attention in 5H, unlike Nicole who just very naturally the main woman and she felt like a star of her own doing. I haven't seen anything in any performances that tell me she has anything interesting or exciting about her as a solo artist, as much as I like Havana.

when was there ever a fifth harmony featuring camila cabello single though? nicole went out of her way todo her own thing...there's such a gulf in age / timing / context...all they have in common other than that is the fact they were the brightest lights in groups of women singing.

Posted by: RobBob Aug 31 2017, 12:16 PM

Oh, I know, I'm just more discussing the idea she has particular stage presence. I don't think she has at all, I don't think she was the best dancer in Fifth Harmony, she certainly wasn't the most likeable, she couldn't do "sexy" if she tried as proved by the Work From Home video and performances, so this is where I think there IS a problem with her as a solo artist, I don't buy that she's capable of being an interesting solo artist aside from having these quirky, on trend numbers written for her (much like the band themselves, lacking in star quality but given great material to mask it).

Posted by: Cremey Aug 31 2017, 12:47 PM

So glad 'Havana' looks like it'll be big, can't get enough of it.
I thought it sounded like the hit from the two tracks but they seemed to be pushing 'OMG' at the start for some reason.

"Havana" is up to #12 on Spotify worldwide and only 2,000 streams behind #11 - she'll surely be there tomorrow and top 10 next week hopefully. She needs to get the video out ASAP!

That would be an interesting one because Simon has been very keen to push 5H as a brand but I wouldn't rule out a solo performance from Camila.

I saw on Twitter this morning she went to see a psychic and have a tarot reading - if you get the chance, check it out below!

I'm almost certain Camila will be on X Factor, Crying In The Club owes a decent amount of its success to the BGT performance getting it off to a great start I think!

That's what killed it for me - the beginning and the "acting". The parts where the actual song was playing were much better.

I really enjoy the video actually. I could have done with more scenes with her in the red dress in the film and bit less of the acting parts at the beginning and also the ending part was a bit weird but overall I liked it . She looks like a total star as well in the dancing scenes as well !

Have people on here never seen or heard of a telenovela before?! The video is clearly a huge homage to them, I think it works really well and I love the dedication at the end.

Posted by: rafik4u Oct 24 2017, 07:15 PM

I can't believe comments saying the "comedy" parts are not believable or weird. Those scenes magnify the quality of this video. It's an adorable and perfect homage to telenovelas and latin american culture. Very well done, she is going to get a lot of praise for this.

Posted by: Joe. Oct 24 2017, 07:25 PM

I love the dancing parts but I really don’t like the acting parts. Similarly (but not as bad) as the Swish Swish video which was the same director.

I am loving how big this song is though! I hope it can still push for #1 in the UK.

Posted by: JosephStyles Oct 24 2017, 07:35 PM

Didn’t realise ‘Havana’ was doing quite so well in the US too, that’s brilliant.
Only ‘Work From Home’ charted higher than #7 from Fifth Harmony’s discography and surely this is just the start for ‘Havana’. So pleased it’s smashing.

Hope it hangs on to #1 here, would be my favourite #1 in years. Still sounds so fresh hundreds of plays later, it’s so infectious.

Album is essentially have a complete rework as it was a lot poppier and in the vein of 'crying in the club' whereas her label have seen what the general public want more... hence why she's recording a new version of the album. It may even have a name change...

I guess it's difficult right now because at this moment in time, Work from Home is obviously the bigger hit as Havana is still impacting. However, a few months down the line, I think Havana will quite easily surpass WFH's total and be seen as bigger. It's doing better on both sides of the pond after all!

Now with a fourth week at #1! Truly incredible success for ha, here's a comparison with female-lead #1s of this decade which have spent at least three weeks at #1 (12 other songs by females have spent at least 2 weeks at #1):

Camila Cabello feat. Young Thug - "Havana" (2017, 4 weeks to date)
Little Mix - "Shout Out to My Ex" (2016, 3 weeks)
Adele - "Hello" (2015, 3 weeks)
Little Mix - "Black Magic" (2015, 3 weeks)
Jess Glynne - "Hold My Hand" (2015, 3 weeks)
Ellie Goulding - "Love Me Like You Do" (2015, 4 weeks)
Meghan Trainor - "All About That Bass" (2014, 4 weeks)
Lily Allen - "Somewhere Only We Know" (2013, 3 weeks non-consecutive)
Ellie Goulding - "Burn" (2013, 3 weeks)
Florence and the Machine - "Spectrum (Say My Name)" (2012, 3 weeks)
Carly Rae Jepsen - "Call Me Maybe" (2012, 4 weeks)
Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris - "We Found Love" (2011, 6 weeks non-consecutive)
Adele - "Someone Like You" (2011, 5 weeks non-consecutive)

She's the first since Ellie in 2015 to spend a month at #1 and only Adele and Rihanna have spent longer there. I'm predicting a fifth week at #1 this week, Camila coming for legend status *_*

I think we can say beyond all reasonable doubt that was the right decision to make. Well done her!

A few weeks ago I thought following up 'Havana' with 'Never Be The Same' might have totally derailed the campaign, but it seems to have done alright now (even though I still don't like it), and 'She Loves Control' has pretty huge potential. I think she's set for a really big era!

Opening performance from the Grammys with Young Thug, Ricky Martin, Arturo Sandoval and J Balvin:

I still absolutely adore this song and that performance was yet another spectacular celebration of everything that she stands for as an artist. I think it's a huge shame that none of her singles after this other than Never Be the Same had any impact but I'm sure if she leads her second album with another pop banger, she will have another huge hit on her hands

great but 1 year and a half too late, this could have happened in last year's Grammys instead
