It's been reported that Liam is working on his second album in LA, and tabloids are suggesting Niall and Louis haven't just co-written a track with Liam for the album, but have actually jumped on a collab...! Could be fake, or may not even make the album, but I could imagine the interest on that being absolutely huge even without Harry and Zayn. After all, it's the closest thing to a 1D song we'll have had since 2015.

I'm glad that he's not given up on his solo music career completely!

I think Liam and his team need to think very carefully about his direction though. It surely has to be something very different from LP1 though. Something that's less Americanised in its production, less "swaggy"... just something that comes across as being more authentic to him as a singer from the UK. Strip That Down was 6 years ago(!) and I really don't think he'd be at all wise to try and recreate that sound.

Not sure why he's bothering tbh, I can't see him having any sort of chart success. I have liked some of his solo stuff but he definitely feels like the least musically talented member of 1D.

I agree with that but wouldn’t say he is the least musically talented, artistically for sure. I’d rate Niall the most musically talented since he is the only one who can play instruments, then Liam is the best vocally.

To be fair they've all got great voices, I'd say maybe Louis has the weakest voice but I'm not sure who I'd say has the best.
I agree that artistically Liam doesn't really know where he's going, he's still to find his musical identity. I stand by my comment though, and I don't think he has the songwriting skills that the others have.

Liam easily has the strongest voice of them all and Louis definitely the weakest.

If we base it on solo careers then that's reasonable to assume, but in Liam's defence he was very involved in the songwriting for One Direction! 34 songs, including 5 singles. That puts him in 2nd place for most contributions, just behind Louis. Liam and Louis wrote a lot together, away from the other 3 members.

(Interestingly there are no "Liam & Harry" or "Liam & Zayn" only songs.)


Obviously we don't know how much or little Liam contributed to the above list of songs, but we can at least see that he was regularly involved in the process. Which makes it curious why he took such a backseat on his own solo album. He only co-wrote 4 of the 17 tracks on the standard album (including Strip That Down, and 3 album tracks). He did co-write 4 more tracks which were all relegated to being bonus tracks on a Target exclusive album and the Japanese version of the album. So 8 out of 21.

It will be intriguing to see if Liam is more involved in the writing on his second album. Maybe his lack of songwriting contributed to the overall facelessness and aimlessness of LP1.

It's interesting that although Niall and Zayn contributed relatively little songwriting to the group, they really stepped up in their solo careers and have co-written every track on every album they've released. As have Harry and Louis.

I’m curious about how this will go for Liam!

I think there needs to be a way more confident approach than last time, like actually having an album ready for preorder straight away alongside the first single. Show that he means business. His debut album coming 2 and a half years after Strip That Down was madness!

I’m intrigued about what music style he’ll go for. His teaser images is kind of giving me the impression that it won’t stray far from the vibe of last time, but we’ll see.
