I thought it seems like a good time to make a thread for the lead single to Leona's Christmas album. As has been discussed in the album thread, the video is being shot today and from a Twitter Q&A we know it will be an uptempo lead single!

Personally hoping for something in the vein of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'. A nice uptempo Christmas song which doesn't seem to age and shows the singer's voice off. Hopefully Leona's managed to use this formula for her lead single!

The release date is most likely November 24th, a week before the album.

So excited for this! We could even get snippets over the weekend.

Also, Leona's album is motown inspired, so the lead single is likely to have a bit of motown influence.

Personally, I'm hoping for Slayona to return and snatch the Christmas #1 from the X-factor winner.

But in reality, I'll be happy if the single sells 150k and the album goes gold.

Would be lovely for Leona to get a 4th #1 with it though! She would tie Geri Haliwell's record for most #1s by a British female artist.

Sorry to be pessimistic but what makes you think the single could reach number one? Particularly when radio are highly unlikely to give Leona any support. Glassheart flopped and it's not because it wasn't any good. Far from it. Christmas singles and albums are often harder to market. I wish I had your optimism but I think her latest effort might be the last nail in the coffin!

It genuinely sounds like it could be a Christmas classic but I'm not sure whether any more Christmas songs will ever become actual classics. It has the potential though and it's what she needed to make this a success!

Me too, don't you think the song (and possibly music video) is giving off strong 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' vibes? With time, it has the potential to become a classic with the right promotion and airplay!

There seems to be alot of excitement for it on twitter etc, And people saying they thought her Christmas album would be lame but there loving this. So I think IF this is main single with the right promo and that she could have a little hit, It would help sell the album anyway that's for sure.

It's brilliant. Definitely what she needs to make some sort of success out of this. I imagine there will be a "Christmas Special" on X Factor this year that both her and Kelly Clarkson can promote their efforts on! I prefer Kelly Clarkson's single atm (I think it's because it sounds more contemporary than this), but this is such a strong single.

Have to say I think I may have fallen in love with this song! I honestly did not expect it to be this good, it makes me excited for christmas.

Hopefully this will do really well, I can personally see it doing better than Kelly's christmas single, I can just imagine the X Factor performance now, fake snow and everything! So excited!

The chorus sticks in your head so catchy. I think this is the main single cause the person who leaked it is apparently someone who works on radio station in a Europe country and got sent the single so I seen on digital spy anyway. So looks like there pushing it for a WW release.

The soundcloud preview sounds exactly like an itunes preview, so I'm assuming they'll have the single up for pre-order by Sunday maybe! I hope so, then premiere the full thing on Nov 1st like you said. I hope her team lets BBC Radio 2 do the radio premiere. ^^

I think this is the perfect lead single for the album, Its instantly catchy like Lukuzz pointed out, And with it being out 1st December and album 2nd December she will perform this on x factor the night before the album is out. So this will be fresh in there mind and hopefully get the album sales.

Ooh I had no idea this album would contain original music, "One More Sleep" is really rather good. It does sound like a classic, which doesn't really happen with many new Christmas songs.

Am really liking one more sleep, to early to listen to it a lot but over the real festive period i will play this a lot, i hope this does well, she has a short time bracket to achieve sales due to the nature of the song so an x factor slot in first week of December would be ideal.

Well she confirmed during her Q&A on twitter few weeks back that she will be performing on x factor this year, And with the single being out 1st December and album 2nd December I think its most likely that she will be performing on show on sunday 1st December.

Leona is also an album seller though. None of her single sales has surpassed her album sales... Throwing both album and single in during same week will hammer her single sales... It may cost her the chance of getting a top 5 single. The bad thing with this Leona era is that it will be quite short. She will have 4 weeks of 'strong' sales and then no reason to promote any more tracks if the album is a Christmas album. She needs a bit more airplay and spolight than that.

It isn't too bad. Most people in the US are at school/work. Plus, holiday music doesn't do too well until the end of November usually, or just after black friday.

Leona performed "One More Sleep" for the first time at the Regent Street Christmas Lights switch on earlier today.



I thought it was really nice and the routine was cute. She relied on the backing track a bit at some points and didn't hit some of the notes near the end due to currently having tonsilitus and it was also rather chilly in London this evening.

I think Leona might actually have a chance at #1 the week she performs on X-factor actually. There aren't many big releases and a lot of the older releases should have died down in sales a bit. In addition, her airplay should be higher then and the rotation of the video will be higher then too! Plus, she's also performing on This Morning & Johnathon Ross that week.

Currently #40 and #95 on iTunes. Combined, it's roughly #33! I think the airplay must be having an effect now, hopefully it could go at least top 20 with her XF performance on Sunday. With the lack of new releases, she could even go top 10!

Loved it! Was fun for a change, rather than her usual serious perormances. Her vocals were fine. She was ill a few days ago while she was in NY, plus she might still be a bit jetlagged as she only came back from the US a couple days ago before the performance and went straight into rehearsals/doing more radio promo. She has a couple days of rest now at least!

So amazed at how well One More Sleep has done. Just climbed to #2 on iTunes! Obviously will start to fall tomorrow but it has done so well and is likely to do well in the future round Christmas which is amazing! So excited for Leona's next era too after this, excitement!

Mine too!

It's my fave modern Xmas song along with Mariah Carey! But I find this more fun to listen to, even if the other is more Xmassy.

Hope she releases another motown classic from this album and that is gets played a lot!

Also, there are 29 X-Factor songs ahead of it (which aren't eligible to chart) plus maybe some instagrats and duplicates so it's most prob like at #850ish once you discount all of those. I hope it'll do well on streaming this year. If it does it could be promising for Leona's lead single off the album.

The key is for Heart radio to play this. It's unlikely that it'll get many spins from R1 or capital this year. Maybe a few from r2. But heart LOVE playing older songs and they massively my supported this last year.

I think Heart will definitely play it again. They still play "Run" & "Bleeding Love" and they absolutely hammered OMS out last year, so I expect them to do something similar this year. Another good thing is that OMS got huge TV support too and I think it'll get that again this year. The video is very Xmasy and short meaning it can rack up a lot of play from TV channels quick easily (good idea from Leona/her management). Can't wait to track how it does this Xmas.

I really hope it's featured on Xmas compilation albums and made 59p at some point perhaps?

I was just searching and it looks like they might not be releasing a new version this year. Normally it's released on the first Monday of November, yet there's been no information released about it yet. So looks like it might not happen!

She won't need anything by 2017 when she's getting her next million seller with it.

Personally I think she could possibly manage Gold this January (if not it will come very close). Sales wise she should manage to double her sales to 260,000. And then there's the possible streaming sales which could be 100,000+.

She managed 131,000 in 4 chart weeks last year. So she should double, maybe even triple that with the inclusion of streaming and an extra 3 or 4 chart weeks of sales.

With Fairytale of New York and Last Christmas trailing at 1083 and 1163.

Maria is the only one ahead at 288 (which is crazy being this far away from Christmas).

Would it be too ambitious to hope for a top 500 by the end of the week then?!

I'm so excited, all is looking well so far! Hopefully this could be top 500 by the end of this week & carry on rising! Is top 20 too optimistic for this year? Because I honestly have a gut feeling it will be somewhere around the 16 mark.

Would be lovely if she did a few promo appearances but for some reason I don't think she will, which is fine because I think the song sells itself. Also can see this being hammered on tv, especially on that Christmas Music Chanel they have which usually appears start of Decemeber.

Got another play from Magic 105.4 again today. I wouldn't worry yet, it isn't until December that the Xmas songs all start to get airplay. Leona has a disadvantage compared to other Xmas songs, in that she isn't on the Now! That's What I Call Christmas album - which is causing lots of xmas songs to rise above her. I'm sure once airplay picks up and TV play it'll do pretty well.

If you guys have spotify, make sure you play One More Sleep to help it with streaming! I think the cap is around 15 plays before they stop counting, so try to play it 15 times/day (even if you just mute it it counts I think!).

The effect of doing that would be so minimal though. Even if you played it the maximum eligible amount of times in a week (70), one person can't even generate one "sale" through streaming it. That's the problem with the conversion rate of 100 streams to 1 sales unit.

So, even if 10 people (and that's optimistic to say the least) from this forum actually did put it on repeat for a week, it would give her a whole 7 sales.

Every little helps though and it's not as if you have to listen to it, you can just mute it while you do something else. It's more so to get it on the streaming chart too. Once it starts appearing on the streaming chart that exposure should hopefully help it rise a little more.

Ye it got 1 play on 8 heart stations but it also got a play from heart gloucestershire (they tweeted they played it) and that hasn't appear on CMR yet. Exciting that heart looks to be on board again! Looking very good with Magic & Heart on board, plus Alan Murphy's radio station (which is only small but every little helps) will be playing it at least once a day from December on his show!

Also, Heart have played this a lot today! Heart Sussex played it again about an hour ago and it's now up to #178 on iTunes - the highest so far!

Most of those streams were likely in the UK though, so not bad! Hopefully it's streaming will start rising more now that radio play is starting to kick in and hopefully it'll get great TV support too (It got to #1 on airplay briefly last year and went to #1 on TV play during the week of Christmas last year!)

We all should try and stream this a little.

I've done a bit of math and worked out that on Spotify her streams for OMS are going up at a rate of 338 Stream-sales per day, as of today (seems to be increasing significantly by the day). But that is without discounting international streams / streams from people who have played it more than 10 times a day. So if you take away 40% of that (I have no idea how many are streams would be from UK?) it still leaves you with 1414 steaming sales a week from now (and that's not including Deezer etc), which should easily get her in the Spotify top 200.

Last week it would have been around 500-700 sales for the week, which would have been a bit too little for it to chart on spotify.

We're allowed 10 streams a day so try it stream when you can rather than listening on iTunes, that's what I've been trying to do.

Jay just told me that it's #137 in today's mids. I don't see top 100 being a possibility as it's climbing very slowly. It still isn't in the Spotify top 200. 24% of its accumulative sales of 1766 are from streaming though. Thanks Jay! If you see this

I think she's just outside the top 200 on spotify, so hopefully she'll appear in the coming days. Her sales should be high enough for at least a top 100 entry officially next week (she started last week at #138 and didn't enter the top 100 until tuesday/wednesday - this week she started at around #77ish and is currently #90 (higher technically) and should climb as the X-factor effect wears off).

Also, there's going to be a new 59p batch tomorrow right? Fingers crossed Leona is part of it.

So OMS is 19p on the Play Store and jumping up their chart! That's going to be great for her charting, might actually help make up for the lack of streaming a bit. 99p albums always get major boosts when on Play and OMS is already #21 on their singles chart.

I don't Leona will be able to make significant progress until the days leading to Christmas now. Hopefully she'll just manage to sneak a top 40 position on the Christmas week or following week's chart.

Everything has been kind of frustrating this year, incredible support last year, yet barely nothing this year.

We expected her to be included on Xmas compilations, but this year the main one decides not to update last years so she misses out, she doesn't get included in the seasonal itunes price cuts and I don't think OMS has been included on the Christmas playlists on Spotify either. Everything I was expecting this year hasn't happened.

#76 isn't too bad. Considering the big boost it got today on iTunes and the google play deal still on (plus its streaming is likely increasing still despite not being top 200 on spotify), I think it'll manage top 75 this week. Really hoping it'll keep rising and really pick up over the weekend (lots of xmas parties!) and manage to go top 40 next week.

OMS was at #130 last week and is #76 in the midweeks
Overall sales of 141,704 (+2773 this week so far)

OMS's sales this week only include 15% from streaming which is way below average. If the chart no longer included streaming she would be at #59 in the midweeks because of a massive boost from Google Play.

It's quite frustrating (and a little baffling/odd) that this is doing so poorly in streaming and not even entering the top 200 on Spotify. It's clearly popular in its second year judging from iTunes. And I'd say, though a little later than I hoped/expected airplay is starting to properly pick up now.

I think it would be a big task to re-enter to top 40 next Sunday, but I'm hoping at very least it can enter the top 40 on iTunes either the end of this week or be start of next before Christmas Day and the inevitable drop.

I'm quite happy with how it's done in its second year regardless of the fact it wasn't made 59p, featured on any xmas comps, or many of the advertised spotify christmas playlists.

Fingers crossed it'll be top 75 today and be able to spend 3 weeks in the top 75! I think top 40 is a stretch, but hopefully next year it'll do better. With it being featured on spotify playlists/compilation albums. Because most Christmas song streams come from those playlsits/compilation albums on spotify. We got the google play discount at least which has helped it a lot. Hopefully it'll stay 19p there for the next few weeks.

I wouldn't be surprised if it made it into the top 20 on iTunes during Christmas eve. I'm quite excited to see how it does in the next 10 days or so.

It is really strange. It did the best the week before and the week of Christmas last year though (charted at #35 & #30 on Spotify's top 50 weekly chart IIRC), so if it does enter the spotify chart it'll be thie coming week and week after. It's still done really well so far.

BBC Radio 1 gave this a spin earlier today and Capital FM has started playing Xmas music, so hopefully they'll play OMS too. I think OMS will rise a lot in the next few days as the X-factor effect wears off and more and more radio stations up their play/hope on board (Other than BBC Radio 1, a few more smaller stations also gave OMS its first plays). Exciting times ahead! Shame it was never made 59p. Maybe, just maybe, it'll be made 59p in the new batch released today/tomorrow?

Returning to the top 100 for a couple of weeks is pretty decent but I'm quite disappointed overall.

It should have gone up this week, not down. Pretty frustrating, it's down to streaming.

Ariana Grande - Santa Tell me spent the whole week below Leona on iTunes but is #80. (99 on sales chart - Leona is actually #68) streaming has a ridiculous affect, and has pushed Ariana up significantly. And it's being streamed because it's included on Spotify's Christmas Pop playlist and Leona isn't. - STM not doing anything on Deezer or Napster. If a Leona was on the same playlist she'd have easily been in top 75.

No worries Joe, this is only the second year. It'll be a couple more years before we can see if it'll go on to become a classic, but judging by how well it's done so far this year it looks likely! Also up to #40 in the TV chart and hopefully it managed to stay top 50 in airplay. Should see an increase in TV play/Airplay and rise on iTunes in the next few days as we come closer to Christmas, especially on Christmas Eve (the day the song is about).

It's quite surprising how well it has done given it's had a lot less support than a lot of Christmas songs. It's not been added to compilation albums or Christmas playlists on Spotify and not had a reduction to 59p either (although it was reduced to 19p on Google Play which has definitely helped!). Fingers crossed it'll manage to hang on to a top 100 placing next week (should stay top 200 if it doesn't) and then I look forward seeing how it does next year!

Next year Leona is releasing her next album and if all goes well, the buzz and success of the album should have an indirect positive effect on "One More Sleep" next Christmas, not to mention it'll likely get added to Christmas compilation albums & playlists. I think this year was more of a test to see if it could do well again and it has!

And Capital have been playing Underneath the Tree soooo much. I thought the prospect of a new christmas Classic would have been more appealing to the music industry.

So happy for the success of the song this year! It's currently #80 on the UK spotify chart/#139 on the US spotify chart & #122 on the global chart. If it had been added on to the spotify Christmas playlist earlier it could have done so much better (which I hope will happen next year!). Can't wait to track this every year now, as I do think Leona has a Christmas classic in the making and it's been great to track it this Christmas period!

I think it was the label who decided that and I think it was to get the video more play? As a shorter video means it can be played a lot more/has more flexiblity in when it can be played on TV channels.

Whatever the reason, it was a somewhat smart choice as it went to #1 in TV play IIRC back in 2013 and climbed well last year too. Hopefully it'll do really well this year too.

I also find it odd that Leona is slow low down/ behind Kelly on tech tracklistings, too. Mariah is hardly relevant anymore in terms of current musical success, neither are The Pogues. But Leona has probably had the most successful original Christmas song for 5 - 10 years, so I thought that they'd want to capitalise that. But it is undeniable that Kelly has had a somewhat successful year - Heartbeat song was a huge radio hit here this year.

Give it a rest. These are UK compilation albums and 'One More Sleep' did far better than 'Underneath the Tree' in the UK - no question about it. That's why it'd be more logical to place OMS higher than UTT on the tracklist regardless of whether an artist is more relevant than another at the moment. That said, Kelly's Christmas song is pretty good so I don't mind it being higher. It is hardly an insult.

Christmas Day is on a Friday this year, so it means Christmas songs will have a full week with Thursday being Christmas Eve - the day that Christmas songs peak (Leona peaked last year), this will work hugely in their favour. I'm not sure if we'll actually get a chart on Christmas Day, but the same rules will apply.

Heart only very rarely play songs that aren't already big hits. It took Little Mix 2 weeks at #1 for them to playlist Black Magic for example. If FUMF or I Am had stayed stable in the iTunes top 40 they would have supported for sure. Either way, I really hope OMS gets just as much, or more support on Heart this year. It was getting 3 daytime plays a day last year. (I think the first play was December 1st)

Picked up a bunch more spins from Heart today and apparantley got some spins from Capital Scotland and a spin from Beats 1! Would be amazing if Capital supported the song this year (they didn't play it once last year IIRC).

The song is set up to do very well this Christmas:

It's featuring on Christmas compilations, including Now! (should give it a big boost).
It's looking to get more airplay if Capital do indeed support the song.
It's on the main Christmas spotify playlist (with over 200k followers) and has just been added to another large Christmas playlist (with 75k followers).

I think those 3 factors could help the song get into the top 40 this Christmas, especially with a full sales week leading up to Christmas. So excited to track its progress!

I really do hope Leona performs the song on a Xmas TV show like Text Santa or something. Maybe have an X-factor contestant sing it? Or maybe make it 59p? Can't believe how excited I am about the song

I think the Heart spins on CMR arn't correct, I've been keeping track of Heart all day all week looking for Little Mix plays, and One More Sleep hasn't shown up once. In fact, Heart (and no other major radio station) are not playing any Christmas music yet, not even Mariah has gotten plays yet. I think her (Leona) first Heart play was the last day of November last year.

Just saw! If you look at the Christmas chart though "One More Sleep" is at #1! That's surely good exposure? (Other songs likely categorised as pop as opposed to xmas songs).

The album is also #6 on the Christmas album chart - the highest non-compilation album on it.

Her streaming seems to be climbing a lot faster than it did last year, she's already up to 4,336,501 now at 4. I think people are using the Spotify playlists already, despite them not being largely advertised yet.

It helps that she's on the playlists this year too A few have quite a lot of followers, one with 225k and a few others with 50-80k. Then a bunch of other small ones. Lots of the Christmas songs are flooding into the top 200 spotify chart now. So shouldn't be long until Leona enters, especially with airplay starting tomorrow onwards. IIRC she didn't make the top 200 until 5-7 days before Christmas last year. Things are looking quite good!

Plus, she may promote the song on a TV show or at least I hope so. Especially given she's performing "Oh Holy Night" on a Christmas special. "One More Sleep" on Text Santa please!

Because streaming is a lot bigger this year than last year.

So it should be selling at or more than the same last year. It's streaming will hopefully pick up a lot in the coming weeks. I can see it peaking higher than last year but it won't chart as long - 2 weeks instead of 3.

Not long until it goes silver!

Hopefully Leona's appearances on the X-factor final will boost OMS a bit. I'm still hoping she'll perform it on Text Santa or something!

I can't help but think how different things might have been for One More Sleep if the I Am campaign went successfully in the UK. If FUMF/I Am/Thunder (or an alternative single) managed to go top 40 I doubt stations like heart would be snubbing the track over the season, when it is a relatively recent Christmas hit.

There are very few big recent Christmas hits - everyone seems to favour the old classics (Mariah's actually being one of the more modern hits.) I LOVE 'One More Sleep' but anyone expecting this to become a perennial favourite is expecting a bit much I think.

Assuming that update isn't missing much streaming data, that is a good start with her biggest sales period coming up. Hopefully will be safely within the top 75 by Friday.

Well Leona's streaming has been doing well so far, so even if missing data was included, it'd likely keep her around the same position or perhaps even higher. Hoping it'll do better this Xmas eve than last year. It peaked at #70 on spotify and #43 on iTunes. It's already matched the #70 peak and think it'll do much better than that (perhaps #30-#40 on Xmas eve). I think sales-wise it might do the same. Really hoping it's set for a top 75 placing.

Really hope it manages to make the top 100 this week! I'm gutted streaming pushed it out the last 2 weeks, we could have had 3 weeks of charting for 2015

Airplay is starting to increase a lot now. Heart aren't playing it much if at all still though. Shame, because if they gave it the same amount of support this year as they did last year, it'd likely be a bunch higher on iTunes and possibly streaming.

Yeah they played it 3 times day time last year (Heart) and this year played it a couple of times at the start of December and dropped it. I think not having one version visably high on iTunes has ultimately hindered its progress a little.

It won't be. It's worked out by how it's done from Fri - Wed. Thurs' streams are actually redundant chartwise. It's a shame because I bet she's like top 40 on Spotify tomorrow!

Capital have been playing this all day ...Strange R1 didn't play it today, they played it like 3 times on Xmas eve the last two years. Such a shame Heart dropped it this year.

Wow at Capital playing it all day! They didn't play it last year. Still a few hours to go, so hopefully R1 will play it during the next few hours.

Ye, really sad that Heart haven't been playing it as much this year.

The good thing is that it's been doing better in streaming and sales this year beating out its peaks of last year. Now hopefully it'll manage to peak higher too.

Also, its youtube views for the video have been a lot more this year than last year:



Hopefully next year Leona will perform the song or they'll reduce it to 59p.

So frustrating that thursday's don't get included!! At least it is not going to be a problem again for another 7 years, but it is still frustrating knowing that its final position has been influenced more by an estimate rather than how many people have actually streamed the song on the day. Charts should not be based on estimates. Hopefully it is top 75 when that is all announced.

She started the festive season on 3,896,417 Spotify streams and is now on 8,274,830 so she more than doubled her streams. Ironically, streaming was huge for her this year, but the airplay she wasn't there for her to really climb iTunes as much. She didn't even make the top 40 rolling this year. Damn Heart. Radio 1 and 2 were there for her somewhat though, even though they could have spun her a bit more. I'm praying she can enter the top 75 at least when it's announced in 30 mins.

Streaming were big but not huge otherwise she would have make the top 100 multiple times..whereas she charted 61 on the sales one
