So its just been confirmed she working all week with Richard Stannard and his team! EXCITING! Man behind Goin Down and Suddenly Monday and the majority of the Spice Girl singles!!!
She was also in Germany around 2 weeks ago for a meeting with Warner Music and its been confirmed shes recorded a song over there written by Hanne Sørvaag and has been described as a mid-tempo pop song.
I hope shes going back to a similar sound to the Northern Star era, This Time was just to soft!
So exciting!
Give us First Day Of My Life as a bonus track!
Great news and i look forward to the album getting released, none of her albums have disapointed me to date although reason is my favourite by far to date.
Amaazing! I love a bit of Mel C in my life.
Hopefully she will go back down the Northern Star route.
i wouldnt mind that route either as that era produced some great material and was also hugely successful for her.
So exciting!
First proper single from her fifth album, produced by Cutfather, song + video debut on her website this Friday at 11AM.
Thank god Rock Me wasn't looking forward to this pity I'm working at the time
cant wait for this , she makes amazing albums but i have questioned her single choices in the past!
Ya, i have loved all her albums but she has made some terrible mistakes with singles, i hope this new era and muster up even a little bit of success in the UK, Im sure she will do ok in Europe though.
I used to like her music and think she is very talented musician.
Where is she now? In USA or here?
I really like it! Fantastic for summer.
I really dont know what to think about the track, i really like the ending of it but think it maybe takes too long to get going?
I also wonder if the song and video connect? I imagine listening to it on radio and think it could work, not that she will get playlisted!!!
I wish her all the luck though and will be purchasing it!!
I really like it. much better than Rock Me.
Its okay don't think its much of an improvement on Rock Me, just alright songs imo. Can't see it going anywhere
It's alright I suppose, better than Rock Me. The video is alright as videos which has 27p spent on them go.
While i like rock me and think about it the magic of the songs that was on reason is missing, i loved that album and is by far my fave mel c album, i would love more of that, while i like her recent stuff it just l;acks that something special unfortunatly as i really like mel and owuld love her to do well, she is the only solo spice i still like and enjoy.
I really really like this after a few listens!
really grown on me already!!
This is a fantastic song!! I would love it if it just made the bottom of the top 40! But that's not going to happen
This is so Katy Perry/Kelly Clarkson/Pink and would probably be a hit for all three of them.
This is really good, shame it'll be lucky to get top 75
i can really imagine katy pery singing this track (not as well mind you).
Anyone know who directed the video? Dont know why Melanie is releasing this on the same day as the album?
I LOVE it!
The B-side Cruel Intentions sounds really good: http://soundcloud.com/whatstheworstthing/melanie-c-cruel-intentions
The lead single from This Time went top 40, so this song will hopefully also go top 40.
I like this a lot. Definitely an improvement on 'Rock Me' (although I like that too!) She looks pretty in the video too. <3
I wonder has she any uk promo lined up?
Mega impressed with this. Not been a fan of Mel since her first and only IMO amazing album.
Love her though, she's my fave spice!
This is BRILLIANT. Better than 'Rock Me'! I definitely get the Katy Perry comparisons etc. I think 'Rock Me' managing to do decently on iTunes without promotion/video airplay/radio airplay etc.. proves that there is definitely some sort of demand for Mel.
Great song! Glad rock me was only a buzz single
The verse is good and but song is overall let down by the chorus, and yes, it's a HUGE improvement from "rock me".
only european promo announced so far!
Album Track preview 'Stupid Game' http://www.melaniec.net/news/archive/553-the-sea-preview-1-stupid-game?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MelanieCnet+%28MelanieC.net%29&utm_content=Twitter
Im so excited for this album!
And here's the b-side preview 'Cruel Intentions' this really is amazing!!
Im liking the sound of cruel intentions, im starting to reaklly look forward to the album now.
I like this! I liked Rock Me too though. Why wasn't that 'proper'?
Uk Promo date's so far:
06/08 Tonights The Night, BBC1 ('Think About It' Performance)
07/08 Michael Ball's Sunday Brunch, BBC Radio 2 (Interview)
23/08 The One Show, BBC1 (Interview)
06/09 Alan Titchmarsh Show, ITV1 ('Think About It' performance + Interview)
12/09 Loose Women, ITV1 ('Think About It' performance + Interview)
I think she should do a full radio tour in the Uk, even just telephone interviews then a play of Think About It
i think the track should be available to download after the tonight the night performance!!
Yay so looking forward to it!

Album Track Preview: Burn
Written and recorded by Melanie, Adam Argyle and the Cutfather team in Copenhagen, this is a classic Cutfather production. The footage is taken from special previews that Melanie performed for Warner Music and European media last month.
I like this one the most.
The whole album so far sounds really strong and diverse. Should make up for This Time. I can only listen to about 4 songs from that nowadays without dropping into a coma.
We can now exclusively reveal the track listing of the UK CD release of Melanie's long awaited fifth album 'The Sea'. Along with Melanie's new single 'Think About It', the album features 10 brand new tracks, including 'Stupid Game', 'All About You' and 'Burn', which we have recently previewed.
The album opens with the title track 'The Sea', which Melanie co-wrote with Richard "Biff" Stannard, who Melanie has previously worked with on 'Goin' Down' as well as various Spice Girls tracks. Melanie collaborated on the song 'Weak' with Jez Ashurst and Ina Wroldsen and it is one of Melanie's personal favourites. The closing track from the album is the epic eight minute long 'Enemy', which Melanie wrote with long serving band member Greg Hatwell.
01 The Sea
02 Weak
03 Think About It
04 Beautiful Mind
05 One By One
06 Stupid Game
07 All About You
08 Burn
09 Drown
10 Get Out Of Here
11 Enemy
You can now pre-order 'The Sea' from Townsend Records (including exclusive postcard), HMV, Play.com and Amazon UK. We'll be posting another album preview on Monday, so make sure you keep an eye on MelanieC.net and Melanie's official Facebook page.
'Tonight's the Night' performances:
'When You're Gone' (duet with Lisa Dalton):
'Think About It':
That 'Think About It' performance is BRILLIANT. Really, really getting back into this song now. (I was never completely out of love with it, but it was starting to wear out a little for me. GAH. I hope this can go top 40 at least!
Always forget how much I like When You're Gone/how good Mel is live. She's looking great too.
Her solo career puts those of the other four to shame, I can't see Think About It going anywhere near the top 40 but it definitely deserves it!
the performance was stunning!!!
Added to Radio 2 playlist this week - B list
I'm obsessed with this song, really a great comeback!
great news that radio2 have added it to the b list, lets hope it makes the a-list soon!

I'm really liking this song. It's good to have Mel back.
great song! The vid is good too
I love her reviving 'When You're Gone' <3
She such a good singer, I really hope this does well!
3 Videos from Real Radio, she performed Weak, Think About It and I Turn To You
Did we know this album has leaked? It's only an MQ webrip but it's good enough for now.
Enemy is instantly up there with the best stuff she's ever done. All 8 minutes of it!
Can't wait for this. Always loved Melanie. Me and my mate have both preordered the album, so there are at least two sales guaranteed
I don't know if I'm just being naive but I really feel like this album could do significantly better than the last. There seems to be quite a lot of chatter and buzz around it from casual fans who perhaps weren't turned on by I Want Candy and didn't bother with This Time. I certainly think it can get top 30 and sell more than 13k all told.
Anyone got a link for the leak?
Oh ZZZ what a boring argument. The free availability of illegal downloads encourages the artist to make better music. If Melanie has made a strong album (and she has) then she need not worry about losing sales from illegal downloads. It's actually healthy in terms of pushing artists to make quality music.
I'm not casting doubt on the illegality of it. Of course it's illegal and perhaps immoral. Either you've misinterpreted my point or chosen to ignore it, that being that when you know thousands of people who might previously have bought your album are now only going to do so if they 'preview' it via an illegal download and like what they hear, you've got a stronger incentive to make a decent record than when you knew the fans would buy it regardless. If there's one good thing to come of the digital era in that regard it's that artists can't be complacent. Bad for the label, yes, good for the fan who can expect a quality album.
Even 1:30 clips, don't give a good indication of how a song will appeal to you once you've bedded it in a bit. Often clips are entirely misleading, more often than not I'd say.
This website isn't 'encouraging' anything - I'm baffled as to how you've come to that conclusion. I'm giving an opinion, so is Regina, it doesn't reflect the website as a whole.
I've not shared any links so kindly brush up on your facts before you tell me what I have and haven't been doing.
I really don't see what the problem is by downloading the leak to know what the album is like when I am going to buy the album when it comes out.
1 minute clips on itunes are not enough to fully get a taste of the album, especially Enemy which is 8 minutes long.
People all over the site are aksing for links to other leaked album yet you single us out here in this thread.
Oooh. The albums leaked? Link please
Finished listening, pretty damn amazing.
Top 5.
1. Enemy
2. Stupid Game
3. Burn
4. Think About It
5. The Sea
Stupid Game is the next single apparently. Seems like a good choice.
Excellent choice.
I would say Enemy would be good, but to edit it for radio would be a crime. 8 minutes of pure amazingness.
havent seen her in a while...
I got the album yesterday in the post from HMV. It's really good. Her best album since "reason" by far.
Reason was a mess. I think the only album which challenges this one is Beautiful Intentions. This is certainly more consistent but that did have a couple more highlights (title song, Next Best Superstar, Last Night On Earth, You Will See).
Beautiful Intentions is my fave album and I've bought all them on release day minus Northern Star.
Shall get The Sea tomorrow!
This performance on Loose Women has seen her climb from an iTunes position of #241 earlier this morning, to #127 at the moment! If only she promoted more than she does.
it made #95 in the uk this week, not great i know but it did a little better than i expected. shame the album didnt hold top 40 though.
'Weak' is definitely my favourite on the album. !
What about the album position this week?
Weak has been confirmed as the next UK single, with Let There Be Love for Europe.
'Weak'? REALLY?! One of my least favourites. I was holding out for a 'Burn' or 'Stupid Game' release!
Is she really going to do well with whatever single she chooses, honestly?
The Sea fell to #101.
Not hugely into Weak, but judging by her recent YouTube videos, it's a song she feels very passionate about.
But if she thought about making an album, she obviously wants it to do something! Why not show the best on your album? 'Burn' and 'Stupid Game' are the clear "fan favourites" so I don't know why she's decided to look past them. She has Radio 2 on her side so I doubt they'll flop horribly. She just needs to get decent television performances and perform around the release.
I bought some of this with an itunes voucher today then saw i could get the rest for £3 so i did
Let There Be Love is beautiful, why on earth is it not on the UK album?
You can get it on itunes
I agree, it is stunning. Kinda ruins the epic ending that Enemy creates though.
LOVING Burn That should've been the single tbh - of course anything will flop but still...
Its all about Stupid Game for me right now
Let There Be Love is horrible! Worst thing on the album.
^ i really like let there be love!! The album is very good i do agree that she sould release the best song ever and it would still get ignored!!!
Shame as she really deserves more success!!!
Mr Dandy bought this on the 2 for £10 deal on Amazon as he wanted to get the Christina Perri album (yes, we have very different tastes!) and I'm surprised at how okay The Sea is, much more tolerable than I'd anticipated.
MENLY CONVERTING THE IGNORANT MASSES.
Weak is 85 on airplay chart this week, cant wait for the video!
weak s now 63 in the air-play chart!
I haven't listened to hardly any of the tracks, but I really like Burn
'Weak' is my favourite from the album. So glad she went with it as the next single !
2ND single in germany is let there be love which she will perform on the german x factor finals!
Weak has been added to the a-list on radio 2! Video premieres this Sunday at 11.00!
Let There Be Love video started to be shot today at brighton's sea front!
Weak was 50 on radio this week.
Video for Let There Be Love will be out tomorrow!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQmS2W9R2sc
Not single material I have to say.
whhuuuttttt?.... Mel C is back?
mm, her old songs sound much better !!
Album £4.99 this week on amazon to download, hopefully be able to get it a few sales!

Burn was the obvious 2nd single from the Sea. She killed Think about it herself by releasing it the same week as the album, tbh it was a miracle it got to #90.
Weak would have been fine as a 3rd single and radio 2 loved it.
Think About It was her big comeback hit and she spent nothing on the music video. Terrible release strategy with the song. I'll never understand it.
Love the song and video
I hate that song. She screams.
You both have NO taste... 😘
All About You has always been my fave track from this album.
All about you is such a fav of mine.
I only skip beautiful mind on this album.
I have a real love hate relationship with this album 4 or maybe 5 tracks I really like the rest I'll happily never listen to again.
The sea - 10/10
Weak - 8/10
Think About It - 10/10
Beautiful Mind - 6/10
One By One - 6/10
Stupid Game - 7/10
All About You - 8/10
Burn - 10/10
Drown - 10/10
Get Out Of Here - 9/10
Enemy - 10/10
Rock Me - 9/10
Let There Be Love - 5/10
The Sea = Best album (for me)
Weak
Think about it
All about you
Burn
Get out of here
That's the 5 I take. I forgot Rock me existed what a terrible song that is.
Omg I get the album title now The Sea was a pun on the 'C' in the artist name Melanie C!
Never underestimate The Sea
I thought it was called the Sea as it was recorded a lot on Brighton by the sea and she walked by the reason while writing and recording it.
Think About It is 10 years old According to Wikipedia the video premiered on 15th July 2011.
One of my favourite songs of that summer
I’ll never get over it’s chart position it physically hurts me 😭. Still one of my favourite solo spice releases.
I think after coming up for a year now on reflection I prefer The Sea to Melanie C. Whilst I think Who I am trumps anything on The Sea after Who I Am, Blame it on me and In and out of love I give the rest of Melanie C a miss these days. I definitely get more out of a listen to The Sea.
I agree Sammy. I prefer The Sea as well. I feel there's a little more substance on The Sea than Melanie C. Think About It, Drown, Burn, Weak and Enemy are some of my favorite Mel C songs.
The Sea was released 10 years ago today.
Happy Anniversary!
what an album !!!
The only song i am not keen on is Beautiful Mind!!
My third favourite Melanie C album, some of my favourite songs are on this record!!
I loathe TAI. Too screamy. Same for Burn, love the song, hate the vocals. The vocal journey she started with Version Of Me helped Melanie find a healthier way of singing. The Sea has some great moment, like the titletrack, Drown, Weak, One by One.. the rest is ok. She improved a lot vocally. To me Melanie C and VOM are way more interesting records because of the vocals.
10 years A great era that deserved more commercial success than it got.
11 years since Melanie C released The Sea.
The Sea is the true follow-up to Northern Star. Almost every track on the album is a killer: the mesmerising & majestic title track, the epic Enemy, the beautiful Weak, the dramatic Get Out of Here, the sinister Stupid Games, the heartfelt One By One (which should have been a duet and released as a single!), the pop gems Burn & Think About It - and my absolute favourite Drown.
11 years!
There was a lot I appreciated from albums 2-4, but I agree that it's The Sea as a body of work that felt like the proper successor to Northern Star. It'll always be a shame that it missed the UK Top 40.
I'll always consider Think About It to be one of her very best singles. Clearly she's belting a lot but for me it isn't unpleasant, for me it adds a feeling of urgency to the track. Bop!
'Burn' is a killer, it still baffles me why that wasn't singled over certain weak(er) tracks.
I love this album, imo it's her best indie release.
One By One
The Sea is def a favourite of mine !! An amazing body of work!
Sorry but it goes like this:
1. Northern Star
2. Melanie C
3. The Sea
4. Version of Me
5. Beautiful Intentions
6. Reason
7. This Time
8. Stages
😉
1. Northern Star
2. Melanie C
3. The Sea
4. Beautiful Intentions
5. Reason
6. This Time
7. Version Of Me
8. Stages
This Time and Version of Me have a good song or two, but honestly aside from the general consensus top 3 I find her albums practically unlistenable.
This Time is Geri’s Passion (Melanie C version).
Bland, unnecessary, and with a song in it (Desire / I Want Candy) that has nothing to do with the rest of the album.
To me, her worst record with that Stages thing (that Emma feat though, Jesus, Mary, St Joseph )
Reason, at least, is amazing / interesting at times: Home / Love To You / I Love You Without Trying / Wonderland/ Living Without You - 90% of this being b-sides
Tbf most of the solo albums are full of filler, not just Mel C's.
Happy 11th anniversary to Weak, the second UK single to be taken from The Sea.
do love Weak and dont play it that often !!
Weak is such a fantastic track I utterly love it and it just gets better with time!
I like Weak, also The Sea in general.
I've never played The Sea from start to finish.
Is this something I should do?
In all honesty, the 7th Heaven Remix of Think About It is the only song I've felt I needed in my collection from that era.
Today marks 12 years since Melanie's magnum opus was released.
How the f*ck was 'Burn' overlooked as a single?
(I'm guessing this question is asked a lot?)
^ radio 2 choose weak over burn!
Burn was used in all gig promo!
Well, Radio 2 are jerks.
Ian Ross, the designer of the album's artwork, has recently shared unseen alternative designs. Take a look by swiping left:
I think they ultimately chose the best one, but that's cool to see!
What a brilliant tune Melanie & Ina Wroldsen wrote together.
Weak is awesome !!
I love it!
