Well that won't be why, but Michael and Little Mix will probably beat him.

Thanks to The Weeknd losing two days of sales, Little Mix will most likely spend a second week at the top unless Busted can throw a spanner in the works

Shed a Light is amazing and so refreshing after a year of mostly tropical.house and future bass in chart dance..hopefully it will do well enough on itunes and spotify this week to enter top 40 officially.

His label. They put the album to Sunday. I had my hopes up that he'd be releasing tonight so I went on iTunes to go and download it and it says it's out on Sunday.

Kiko Bun and Inna?
I don't think its the same Inna that did Hot and Sun Is Up
Posted by: liamk97 Nov 25 2016, 12:34 AM
I'm sure The Weeknd's album was late being put up for pre order and, whenever I've checked the Amazon Music Chart, he's only been appearing low Top 100, so I feel like he was set to underperform anyway...

His label want him to flop and for another artist to succeed?
There must be some kind of reason behind it, it's a silly move in terms of chart positions but I guess he probably doesn't mind too much and it will be top 5 at the very least regardless. Honestly I wasn't convinced he'd beat Little Mix and Michael Ball this week anyway, particularly with Christmas shopping starting to build up at the weekends.
Posted by: Joe. Nov 25 2016, 12:36 AM
I think Weeknd will do huge streaming and digital sales - enough at most times of the year for a #1 but with physical season now fully in swing it didn't stand as much of a chance.
Posted by: Serg Mix Nov 25 2016, 12:37 AM
Screaming at this theory, I'm quite sure Weeknds label talked with Elizabeth and she kindly asked him to move to Sunday so Little Mix can beat him for 2(!)nd week at the top

Yeah, I can see him doing very well on streaming, even if it did underperform on other formats. Can't see any of the album tracks (that haven't been made available before this week) reaching the Top 40 but I expect a few entries to the Top 100, even with two days missing.

I don't think that Starboy will be released on Sunday, although I'm aware that this is the 'expected release date' on most of the iTunes stores.
Personally, this is a way his label is doing to maximize the sales in the US, so they are going to release the album first there in less than a hour and, after that, it will be out worldwide. I mean, they wanted to prevent early releases because of the time zones.
Posted by: omrimayo Nov 25 2016, 05:35 AM
So it's on Spotify and others. Someone can confirm Starboy is also available for buying?

It's such a silly conspiracy. Firstly, major labels wouldn't do that. As if Sony would pay Universal so that an album that's already gotten to #1 could be there again.

If this becomes #1 at the start of 2017 then it will probably stay as my favorite #1 throughout the year! Their best single ever.

It's not really too soon though... 'Grow Up' was dead and gone about 2 months ago and got a belated boost... he's since announced a new single which is probably expected to impact in the new year (Expected being the key word).
Posted by: ThePensmith Nov 26 2016, 05:56 AM
Yeah "Years & Years" is his next single. To be honest he did the same on the last album with "Up", starting promo on that a week after "Never Been Better" went to #1 and that went onto become one of his biggest hits. He's performing at the BRITs nominations live launch, Michael McIntyre's Big Show and Christmas Top of the Pops in the coming month and a bit as well which will all be big boosts.

I'm really loving the Human track, it really sounds different from what's in the singles chart at the moment, there is nothing really like it, its different and unique and it really stands out. That boost is pretty much huge if that goes to #1, it be my favourite #1 of the year, but I fear its going to get stuck behind Clean Bandit, if it does go top 5 on Friday officially.

Why in indie/rock/alternative is it predominatly acoustic singer songwriters making the charts this decade rather than rock groups. For alternative would much prefer more stuff like Bring Me The Horizon - Drown or You Me At Six -The Swarm rather than Rag N Bone Man or Hozier.

I don't think there's any indicator of Rag'n'Bone Man being a one-hit wonder yet I think he can at least do a James Bay and get another hit alongside a big selling album! His career trajectory seems quite similar at this point (including to the point where they both supported Tom Odell on tour )

Plus the fact that he has a very commercial song here with Human. I've heard a lot of his stuff over the years and while a lot of it is strong, none of it particularly sounded like a hit.
I've just read he's from Uckfield, a very bland and uninspiring small Sussex town that I would have never imagined a chart-topping act coming from! In fact I don't know of a single other famous person from Uckfield at all.

I thought that at first but it's actually simple once you get the hang of it.
Dark green & light green means that the song has gained in performance since the last update
Dark red & light red vice versa.
Clean Bandit are at number one so therefore they're 1.000, and the number 2 (human) is at 0.6262 which means that Human is selling 62% of what CB are.

What with The Greatest fading away now, they might even choose Alive for the next single over Move Your Body with Alan Walker? If it makes a lasting impact, of course.

In terms of those later tracks with the Shapeshifters nu disco style production, I always preferred Star Pilots - in the Heat Of The Night to Trippin On You though.

I doubt they'd make 'Alive' a proper single again, it's been a reasonable hit already even with its low peak.
'Move Your Body' (Alan Walker Remix) would be a great choice.
Posted by: Lenny Nov 28 2016, 08:34 PM
I hope they don't move on to 'Alive', it's by far the worst Sia track I think I've heard :/ I can see why it was turned down and I don't get why it has been covered so much on X-Factor this year!

Mariah Carey is really climbing fast and i saw that she is number 38 on the main chart at this early point of the week. Her position will likely improve as the week progresses.

With it being Christmas Week on XF this weekend, I can see Saara performing AIWFCIY and therefore boosting it even more.

I'd love a traditional track like this to go top 40 again - here's the chart peaks of artists that have brought the latter two into the chart -
Silent Night -
Date entered Artist Title Peak Chart run
14/12/1991 Sinead O'Connor Silent Night 60 {60}-68-64-73->4
07/12/1991 Simon And Garfunkel A Hazy Shade Of Winter/Silent Night 30 70-34-32-{30}-34-71->6
03/12/1988 Bros Cat Among The Pigeons/Silent Night 2 {2}-4-5-6-8-10-21-51->8
16/12/1978 The Dickies Silent Night 47 53-{47}-47-47->4
20/12/1952 Bing Crosby Silent Night, Holy Night 8 {8}-8->2
So Bing Cosby in 1952 was the last to get a big hit with it - Bros no2 hit was a double A side and I'm sure AirPlay was focuses on the pop track.
Posted by: Ryan. Nov 29 2016, 09:12 PM
I still think Saara will be paired with Mariah, but if they do go for something less predictable then O Holy Night is definitely a likely choice as it is on her own Christmas album!

I realise how late I am discovering this, but given that they're responsible for one of the most overplayed and annoying songs of all time almost three years ago (R****r B*)...I really, really like Rockabye, it sounds like a Europop hit circa 1997-8 at points. Glad it hit #1!

at that Charli XCX one being top 10.
Superlove and Break the Rules were a bit immature but had great funky dancepop backing tracks, ATAP is just slow and really not my kind of thing. Its not as bad as Fancy though (the worst song of the decade for me so far).

Mark probably uses a search which includes Christmas so maybe she doesn't come up tbf. All the xmas tracks are doing better this year because sales are well down so its a bit like the iTunes charts in 2007-09 eras. They are still 'selling' the same I would say.

FYI, there's absolutely no way of working out the combined position of songs outside the top 100, because there's no way of knowing the gaps between songs, which could be huge or minuscule. Whoever said that on Digital Spy is taking a wild or educated guess. They probably aren't way off though, I expect it to be around the 80 - 100 mark somewhere.

You can work it out looking at the Christmas chart roughly. You can view the holiday chart with popularity here - http://www.lpb5.com/index.php?Region=143444&Chart=8&numbers=Get+Chart+%28Numbers%29
It only has one version at 0.14, but the second version is about the same position on iTunes main chart as Justin Bieber's Mistletoe which is at ~0.1. So combined Leona's at around 0.24 on the Christmas holiday chart popularity. Wham!'s second version is ~0.2 (#85) whilst Buble is at ~0.28 (#59). So you can estimate that combined, Leona's between #59-#85 on the main iTunes chart. Of course this doesn't take into account combined versions of every song, as it could be higher/lower if those were included as well. It isn't all based on a wild guess.

Well, I did state that it would be an educated guess and that you can probably work out a range rather than a very specific figure of "81" which was given, which is the same as what you just said.

15. Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You (+37)

QUOTE(Hadji @ Dec 1 2016, 03:50 PM)
I'd rather a different Xmas song got the highest rather than AIWFCIY every year
At least the MORAL winner of the Xmas songs is 'Fairytale Of New York' every year.
Mariah:
17 Mariah Carey All I Want For Christmas Is You
45 Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas Is You
566 Justin Bieber & Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas Is You (Superfestive!) [Duet With Mariah Carey]
Pogues:
36 The Pogues Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)
44 The Pogues Fairytale of New York
354 The Pogues Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)
395 The Pogues Fairytale of New York (feat. Kirsty MacColl)
680 The Pogues Fairytale of New York
Pogues having more versions than Mariah in the top 1500, clearly this proves that FONY is the better song. *.*

Anyway...
There's a new JESSIE J single tomorrow guys, I'm sure Buzzjack will be all over that x
Posted by: Jonjo Dec 1 2016, 06:52 PM
Yaaasss! If that's real, I'm genuinely excited!
Posted by: mr_pmt Dec 1 2016, 06:56 PM
Is that an actual single related to an album, or one of her many random movie soundtrack songs?
I'm interested to see how she does with her next era... personally I'm expecting that to be it for her now successwise.

OMG. Sigala, Alan Walker, Jessie J, is that it? All could be top 40 next week tbh.
Posted by: 🎄cqmerqn🎄 Dec 1 2016, 07:19 PM
Can Jessie J remain irrelevant pls

An article on the Jessie J single from josepvinaixa:
QUOTE
Get ready! Queen of trademarks collaborations English singer-songwriter and TV personality Jessie J is back to the business with a brand new track!
The song is called “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and it’s the main theme of Makeup Forever’s new campaign “#iamanartist“, which arrives this Friday on December 2nd along the release of the song on digital retailers and streaming services.
Besides, Jessie is currently in the studio shaping her next and fourth studio album, follow-up 2014’s “Sweet Talker“, which will be availble sometime next year via Lava and Island Records.
The song is a cover of Frankie Valli’s original with the same name released in 1967.
So not for the album by the looks of things, will give it a spin anyway as I actually quite like Jessie's music most of the time!

Is that the same Can't Take My Eyes Off You that Andy Williams sang then?
Dreading to hear this cover if that's the case :|

yup, and I'm not expecting a good cover of this really...

It's just a cover for an ad campaign. Won't have anything to do with new material or do much chart wise.
Posted by: Jonjo Dec 1 2016, 07:26 PM
Ahh. In that case, I think I'll give it a miss :')

Mariah isn't always the highest Xmas song anyway... she's usually ahead to begin with but then The Pogues often/usually(? - I forget) overtake her as Christmas approaches (on sales at least, they probably never will with streams counted as Mariah is always #1 there)
Posted by: mr_pmt Dec 1 2016, 07:40 PM
That Jessie J cover is akin to when Pixie Lott did the one for the Colgate advert, and we all know how her career went after that.

07. Charli XCX - After The Afterparty
Posted by: mr_pmt Dec 1 2016, 09:57 PM
Charli could get top 5 very soon! She's not far.
Posted by: Joe. Dec 1 2016, 10:05 PM
Amazing progress for Charli, but she's been 59p for 2 or 3 weeks now. Watch her go back to full price at midnight.

That new Jessie J song is sacrilege. It not gonna even made a dent to the charts so I wouldn't worry...
