BuzzJack Music Forum _ Harry Styles and One Direction _ Louis Tomlinson - Walls

Posted by: MauriceMears 2nd December 2016, 01:49 PM

From The Sun:

QUOTE
LOUIS TOMLINSON is the fifth member of ONE DIRECTION to go solo.

I can reveal the megastar boyband’s most prolific songwriter has been in the studio working on his own material
The news will delight 1D fans as it means all past and present members of the band — Louis, HARRY STYLES, LIAM PAYNE, NIALL HORAN and quitter ZAYN MALIK — will now have solo careers. Bosses at SIMON COWELL’s record label Syco are very impressed with what he has been working on and are keen for a release.

New dad Louis, who runs his own record label within Syco, is the only member of the band who has stayed loyal to his X Factor mentor.

Last night our source revealed: “Louis is a brilliant songwriter and had not initially planned his own solo career.

But he’s been back in the studio and has been working on some really amazing music.

“He’s played some to the powers that be at Syco, who are really excited.

“They think he could be a real success as a solo artist, given his proven ability to write hit records and massive fanbase as part of 1D.”

Louis certainly has plenty to write about.

The Doncaster lad has had the most interesting life out of all of 1D since I revealed the band were going on an extended break.

He became the first 1Dad in January with son Freddie Reign but dumped baby mama Briana Jungwirth and started dating US actress DANIELLE CAMPBELL. He also relocated to LA and divided his time between supporting Briana during the pregnancy and visiting his new girlfriend in Chicago.
Louis missed out on the chance to join the judging panel on this year’s X Factor to focus on being a first-time dad and developing his label.

In April the budding businessman added a new teen girl band to his roster, which also includes 2014 X Factor finalist JACK WALTON.

The same month he made his debut as a judge alongside Simon on America’s Got Talent, earning rave reviews.
It won’t be long until he is back to being the talent himself.

This is a disaster as he can't sing!

Posted by: JosephCarey 2nd December 2016, 02:27 PM

This sounds like a disaster on paper but I have hopes that it could be good as he's definitely a good songwriter!

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 2nd December 2016, 07:16 PM

lmao "and quitter Zayn Malik"

Posted by: Jonjo 3rd December 2016, 07:28 PM

Why do I get the feeling that he's actually gonna be one of the biggest members of the band, to go solo? laugh.gif

I don't know why, but he seems to be a lot more popular than people believe he is!! He is to 1D what Frankie is to the Saturdays, I think!

Posted by: Rafael x 7th December 2016, 07:41 PM

ppl are pressed here LMAO

Posted by: JosephCarey 7th December 2016, 09:13 PM

Rumours of Louis debuting his first single on the X Factor final this weekend, not sure if this is just fan rumours circulating or if there's an actual possibility, but Rylan's confirmed that an unannounced guest performer has an exclusive performance, so maybe there's truth? I'd be surprised but it's not impossible I guess.

Posted by: *Callum™ 9th December 2016, 06:41 PM

Disaster? How immature.

I, for one, can't wait to see his output; especially considering that insiders seem to be receiving it well.

Posted by: THEO. 12th October 2017, 10:46 AM

So this is actually happening, release is confirmed for 2018 according to OCC.

Posted by: JosephAvery 3rd April 2018, 11:57 PM

Louis is apparently releasing two new songs soon!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th April 2018, 06:16 PM

It's a bit hard to imagine where they go from here, I guess team him up with a big name?

Posted by: Cody Melton 4th April 2018, 06:25 PM

Has he actually found a sound and stuck with it?

In other news I just found out my dad got into “Miss You” tongue.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 13th May 2018, 02:00 PM

This album is literally never getting released. Syco seem to think dropping singles until one is a hit is a good campaign but its not worked for him, PrettyMuch or Noah Cyrus

Posted by: JosephAvery 13th May 2018, 02:01 PM

The strange thing is that Back to You actually was a hit, he's only had one flop since then and Syco haven't done anything in the 5 months since drama.gif

Syco either seem to get their marketing on point or miss the spot massively. They released Miss You at a poor time and it in hindsight it did not have that much widespread appeal. Reckon they need to get a feature with him for it to take off.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 13th May 2018, 09:04 PM

But none of his hits have been MASSIVE. and I think thats what their after

Posted by: JosephAvery 7th July 2019, 02:58 PM

It's been a while since Two of Us now so hopefully we get the new single ASAP! These huge gaps are really not helping his momentum sad.gif

Posted by: Calum 7th July 2019, 04:56 PM

Hopefully we get a new single followed by an album (some time in the very near future!). It's going to feel really weird now having the likes of Back to You on an album if he does decide to include them. laugh.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 12th October 2019, 01:43 PM

Looking forward to this! It'll be interesting to see how it does, he does have a very large fanbase - it's just that the public appeal hasn't crossed over in a while to give him a hit.

Posted by: pippa 12th October 2019, 02:33 PM

Releasing at the quieter time is the best situation here as it will help the album achieve a higher chart position.

Posted by: Rafael x 12th October 2019, 02:57 PM

No Liam album yet, lmao

I think Louis album will be a good one.

I never would have imagined in 2016 that Liam would end up being the last of the five to release an album (assuming he gets to do so eventually...!!)

Not sure what to expect from Louis' album at all, every song has been so different to the last and the quality has been all over the place. I wonder if anything prior to Two of Us will be included?

Posted by: pippa 13th October 2019, 11:20 AM

I expected Liam to be preparing to have a 2nd album coming at this point.
In 2016 no one would have predicted Liam would be the last to have an album out.
Louis's album will be very mixed, no theme throughout and very disjointed but will house 3-4 good songs.

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th October 2019, 11:25 AM

I've got no idea what to expect from a Louis album and Kill My Mind has very much dampened by excitement for it too. If it's an album full of songs like that, he can keep it.

Yes, Liam is so desperate to get a hit again, he lost all the hype after Strip That Down... poor him! He's remaking his album, i think his label isn't happy with it.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 23rd October 2019, 01:40 PM

It's out on January 31st (Blossoms is currently the only other big album scheduled for release that day) and is 12 tracks - featuring Kill My Mind, Two of Us and We Made It.

I really, genuinely can't see why they didn't just release this in summer 2017.

I hate this current era of artists taking years to put an album out.

How do we think this album is going to perform? Better or worse than Liams or similar success? I can't see it doing anything like Zayn's, Harry's or Niall's albums.

Worse than even Liam's I reckon.

Posted by: pippa 13th January 2020, 04:38 PM

It could get a higher chart position but on lower sales than Liam.
Louis needs to use every trick in the book to get the album to chart as as high as possible as it will not hold up outside debut week.

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th January 2020, 04:49 PM

I think it could actually do reasonably well in first week? As far as individual fanbases go, Louis seems to have the second biggest behind only Harry. Not expecting it to hold up very well but I don't think it'll have a disastrous first week at all.

Posted by: pippa 13th January 2020, 07:09 PM

Would Louis have a bigger individual fanbase than Niall?
I think Louis should easily manage a Top 20 debut.

Posted by: JosephStyles 13th January 2020, 07:12 PM

I'd say yes, but Niall's got a far wider casual audience!

Posted by: pippa 13th January 2020, 07:15 PM

I thought Niall has the bigger of the 2 on individual initially, but casual, is likely where Niall is by far the more popular of the two.

Posted by: Rafael x 15th January 2020, 05:01 PM

Louis will do better than Liam, his pre-order is doing much better in both UK/US and no way he has more fans than Niall, should i laugh?

Really good album!!! I was worried it was going to be an Oasis tryhard album after Kill My Mind and We Made It but thankfully not, it's really mature and a solid listen. The title track could become one of my faves in time heart.gif

US Charts Preview: 35-45k SPS

Top 10 debut with no hot 100 entries, and no spotify support

That's not bad for him at all when you look at all the factors.

Posted by: Wall 2nd February 2020, 03:10 PM

Top 10 debut is actually pretty impressive considering he’s had no Spotify support in comparison to the other 1D members and hasn’t got a huge streaming hit to tag onto the album like Liam and Zayn did so the fact he’s out peaking them with triple the amount of sales is great.

He’s doing Hmv signings all week, he’s got two in Scotland today I believe so that should at least be 2-3k sales max? I can see him debuting top three in the U.K.

Been a bit of talk about Louis' BBC Breakfast interview this morning which Louis didn't seem impressed with:

I don't understand what his problem was. The two interviewers were friendly and relaxed and their questions were fair and not intrusive like he makes out. They were talking about his music (which he claimed they didn't) and he talks his personal life in his lyrics. They moved on when they could see it made him uncomfortable. It may be tiring answering the same old question over again but that's part of the job. If there's questions you don't want asking, they can be marked as no-go areas before the interview.

Posted by: pippa 3rd February 2020, 07:10 PM

Number 2 in the midweek information released today with 11.5k sales.
Top 5 is a cert for him which is as good as anyone of us could have hoped for.
Looks likely, himself and Liam will have similar selling albums with Louis achieving a much high peak position.

Posted by: pippa 5th February 2020, 07:21 PM

That’s another very good result taking into account how disappointing his streaming support (only 4K sales worth of streaming wow) has been and despite not going too 5 like Harry and Niall recently but much better than recent Zayn and Liam!

Drops out of the Irish top 100 this week from number 15 last week.

Posted by: pippa 18th February 2020, 02:32 PM

The album performed as many us of us expected.
This was never going to be a huge selling album, but, instead a one week wonder.
That said, he has a solo Top 5 album credit to his name.

Posted by: Better Man 14th March 2020, 08:27 AM

Just listened to his album and really liked this. I think it's simply Top-3 solo album of 1D guys (1. NH - Flicker, 2. HS - Harry Styles).
Reminds Oasis, Rob Thomas and Embrace.

Walls, Fearless, Habit are my faves.

Hope he will be succesful because I like the fact he's trying to do Britpop nowadays.

I didnt expect it to chart anywhere as there didnt seem like any interest.

Walls is the third biggest debut album of 2020!

QUOTE
The third biggest debut album of 2020 so far is Louis Tomlinson’s Walls. The One Direction member’s solo debut – which landed at Number 4 in January – is the UK's bestselling debut of the year to date, with 15,000 copies sold on physical formats.

That sounds abysmal, especially when you consider he's a former member of the world's biggest boyband and should have achieved 10x those sales easily.

Posted by: pippa 7th July 2020, 09:27 PM

It was an album that was never destined to be a huge seller.

Posted by: larry.stan 19th July 2020, 07:20 AM

Hi guys, any news about how Louis' album sales are doing?
I guess it has sold over +100,000 copies ww.

#15 in the midweeks thanks to an exclusive vinyl release for HMV's 100 year anniversary! Should be a great push towards a silver certification.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 26th July 2021, 04:48 PM

Great to see it so high, i wonder how many copies are available as it would be nice if he can even re enter the top 100 at the low end and its also nice to see the album get some extra sales.

How bizarre that this album was chosen for this event!?!? How did he swing that, you think it would have been classic albums.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 29th July 2021, 12:37 AM

It is a strange enough choice but its worked well for him, down to 30 in the mids so should safely return to the top 75.

Posted by: pippa 29th July 2021, 11:50 AM

It also adds at least 1000 sales to his total which is both good and needed.

Posted by: Rafael x 29th July 2021, 02:23 PM

still top 10 on itunes

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th July 2021, 01:36 PM

It was 30 again in yesterdays mids and while i dont think it will hang onto the top 40 today it should be top 60.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 30th July 2021, 06:32 PM

45 this week which is impressive enough.

All the vinyls must have sold out and the extra sales outside those are higher than I would have expected.

Posted by: -Jay- 5th August 2021, 03:59 PM

It had a run of 1500 vinyl and he sold 1446 vinyl last week! That figure may have included a few sales of the original vinyl version. So there was still a handful of the HMV vinyl to be found somewhere, this week!

Last week he also sold 85 CDs, 66 Downloads, 201 Streaming.

Posted by: dannjohn 27th August 2021, 02:55 PM
