BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ Emma Bunton's Christmas Party - UK Tour in December 2022

Posted by: Mr.X 4th June 2022, 11:03 AM

A fan on another forum said that Emma told them that she will be doing a Christmas tour with shows at Royal Albert Hall, Brighton Dome, etc

Make of that what you will lol

Sounds made up to be honest as I can't imagine her selling out several venues.

But if it's true I'd assume she's doing a Christmas album. It'd be odd to do one with the grand total of one Christmas single.

Posted by: pippa 4th June 2022, 01:27 PM

A Greatest Hits would be a better release than a Christmas album.

True but the chances of that happening are pretty low. The rights to her catalogue are distributed across four different record labels (EMI, Universal, Polydor and BMG) dry.gif

Hmm, a Christmas themed tour this year... which isn't even announced yet, despite the fact it would take place in 6 months? That would be very confident. Emma hasn't built up a reputation for touring, or for being associated with Christmas, so I think it would be a really tough sell. I know she did the Royal Albert Hall, but that was a one off event, off the back of her profile being higher because of the Spice Girls. I think if she's particularly serious about it then she should do the groundwork first and purely focus on a Christmas album before considering a tour.

Leona Lewis has a Christmas album from 2013, and a genuinely massive Christmas song - yet her tour, which was announced in November 2021, wasn't set to take place until December 2022. So her team wanted to ensure ticket sales over a long period of time [by the way, her tour got delayed until December 2023 because of her pregnancy]. I think Leona is someone who could attract audiences because the UK definitely knows 'One More Sleep'. Emma doesn't have that.

Posted by: vibe 5th June 2022, 11:01 AM

I would much prefer a new album tbh!

Hhmmm Im not sure on this. Yes it will be an uphill battle if she is to tour, since she isnt an established touring act as a solo act. Not everyone sells out their tours and I wouldnt be expecting Emma to do that, specially when her first solo concert in over 20 years didnt sell out either (in fact it needed a lot of cheap-last-minute tickets to fill it up and even then wasnt sold out). But neither is Leona?? And even Mel C after 20 years touring didnt sell out her own tour this year in much smaller venues. At least Emma has a few triumphs on her:

1. She is a Spice Girl and a popular one at that, and will obviously capitalise on the Spiceworld25 announcements and promo. Hell, from what we are expecting of this year, we are expecting that the Spice Girls are announcing a new tour as well, so it might all become part of the excitement.

2. If she is touring to those sort of venues, they have an almost established family-Christmas shows audiences, specially if it can appeal to children too. Like, that is the main bread and butter of those places and most Christmas/family shows sell pretty well!

3. Emma is well known in the family-oriented audiences demographics due to her work on TV, radio and as a general celebrity. If she can get some nice guests (and she can), she will be fine!

If she does indeed do a Christmas single/album, then I figure she will be ok. No, she wont sell out the tour. I mean, Albert Hall is over 5000 people. Brighton Dome is 3000. Those are huge venues!

Posted by: dannjohn 6th June 2022, 08:58 AM

she barely sold royal albert hall last time when she had an album out...

Posted by: tommie 6th June 2022, 09:21 AM

I wouldn't really assume it's true - Spice fans seem to have a fair amount of imagination over the years and until we hear anything from a reputable source I'm just going to treat it as a made-up rumour.

Posted by: sammy01 6th June 2022, 04:26 PM

A Christmas album (as I've said before) is her only real viable option at this point to release music that doesn't cost her loads of money. BMG have said they will release another album if she brings it to them, an xmas album of mainly covers can be recorded in 2 weeks. It is her main chance of getting any playlisting too as Santa Baby showed this last 2 years (it has more streams than everything from My happy place bar Baby please don't stop).

A tour is ambitious but has been said it could/should coincide with some big Spice Girls announcements coming up which will deffo help. That coupled with her getting some xmas playlisting might have swung it for her to bite the bullet and do it.

Posted by: spiceboy 2nd July 2022, 05:16 PM

I no longer believe the tour rumour, if she was doing it surely she would have announced it by now or we’d hear something about venues being booked etc. Also the fact it is tour and not one off date at RAH makes me believe it even less I don’t think she would sell out the venues.

Posted by: Mr.X 20th July 2022, 12:55 PM

"I’m working on my Christmas show right now, it’s my favourite time of year - to get up and perform my solo stuff, Christmas songs and of course, some Spice stuff!"

Awesome looks like the shoes are happening then! I’ll definitely go to the RAH again if she does a show there!

Also I’m hoping for new music too even if it is clearly going to be a Christmas covers album lol.

Posted by: vibe 6th September 2022, 04:18 PM

The tour is happening !!!

Yes !!!!!

And how dare she announce it as the same time as spiceworld anniversary 😂😂😂

Posted by: dannjohn 6th September 2022, 04:20 PM

I imagine it will be a Xmas show at Albert Hall again though with 3 months to sell... she must have something lined up soon to promote it?

Posted by: sammy01 6th September 2022, 04:29 PM

It is the perfect size venues and 5 dates, it is exactly what she should be doing.

You gotta love Emma has no shame with making sure she rides any Spice hype. My happy place was what 6 weeks before the 2019 tour and SW25 is likely to be announced tomorrow.

Posted by: dannjohn 6th September 2022, 04:33 PM

5 dates? i don't think so... the 1 date in 2019 struggled.

They are small venues 1k seats type thing. She is also doing meet and greets. I have no doubt she will do well, she wont struggle to get tv/radio promo slots and certain Spice fans will no doubt do every date.
We will have 2 months of SW25 hype by then too.

Each venue has like 2000 seats. I am going to the Brighton Dome one as I will be in town then, so that checks! Not SUPER excited about this, as the Albert Hall show was a bit crap but hopefully she will do a lot of solo songs and group songs and that will be FINE teresa.gif

York is 1.5k seats. I honestly don't think she will have a problem flogging 75% by December then sticking the remianing on groupon or something like that.

For sure, she will be fine. Brighton as well she will sell ok, specially the middle class mums who love anything Christmas, will be at the Dome!

I think I’m down for this but it really depends how much I fork out on SW25 tomorrow… if it is tomorrow that it is announced

Omg if she is doing meet and greet I HAVE to get one and get her to sign my gold disc she is my final girl then I got all 5!!!

£271 she is having a laugh f*** that no signed disc for me.

She should just sing the entire Free Me album and the singles from A Girl like me.

Perfect set list wub.gif

In all seriousness though it’s good she’s still pushing the solo music thing. I wish Geri would but I think she’s done.

I wish I had thought of that LOL!

Posted by: tommie 7th September 2022, 06:14 AM

Honestly, with energy prices and living costs overall spinning out of control I do wonder how well she'll be able to sell - I imagine that a lot of people will have to cut down on their spending this Christmas, which means things like an Emma Bunton Christmas concert will be low on the priority list.

Posted by: McAndrew 7th September 2022, 07:32 AM

I wonder if a Spice Girls Christmas tour was ever on the cards.

In any case, I hope to get to the Manchester date. RAH was fabulous and Emma's voice sounded better than ever.

Posted by: Spice Girls Net 7th September 2022, 09:11 AM

Drury Lane theatre is in the heart of the west end in Covent Garden. I’ve seen M People there, it’s a great venue. It’s intimate but obviously anyone will be nearer than say at the back of the Royal Albert Hall

Posted by: Mr.X 7th September 2022, 09:15 AM

It will most probably sell much easier than the Royal Albert Hall

Posted by: vibe 7th September 2022, 11:20 AM

Emma is naughty. We all know that. Sitting on Santa’s lap and singing with her sweet voice.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 7th September 2022, 01:24 PM

I hope the show does sell out for her as its always good to have the solo spice projects on the scene and doing well.

Posted by: dancinqueen 7th September 2022, 02:18 PM

She will. I’d see her doing this also on TV. A proper show with singing / talking / guests. Like “An Audience With”.

Posted by: Mr.X 7th September 2022, 02:44 PM

My only gripe with this is that she has some of the best Spice-related music in her repertoire but we have to content with Christmas covers being 50% of the concert... URGH

Posted by: vibe 7th September 2022, 05:07 PM

Be interesting if the meet and greets sell out!

She cant get half her albums on Spotify for half the world, I'd imagine getting the rights sorted to get those 4 albums singles (on 3 different labels) would be near impossible.

She would be best doing an Abbey Road style orchestral GH rerecording her singles. Her voice would probably sound gorgeous on that type of release too.

Lots on Spice Circle seem to struggle to get tickets this morning. Think the meet and greets were hard to come by.

Yeah but that could easily be that people put tickets on their baskets and then dont buy it...

What do we think the set list will be???

Personally I don't want a complete repeat of the Albert Hall gig, and Im sure she will have a shorter show this time, but here is what I would love her to do, not in any particular order:

SOLO

Maybe
I'll Be There
Free Me
What Took You So Long? (NO JAZZ CRAP PLEASE IT WAS PISH!)
All I Need To Know (the album version would be perfect!)
Downtown (a christmas version would slap)
Too Many Teardrops
Take My Breath Away
Breathing
All That You'll Be

SPICES

2 Become 1
Goodbye
Viva Forever
Let Love Lead The Way
Say You'll Be There

I actually don't think anymore solo versions of Spice songs as she will christmas-them-up but I will of course deal with it...

CHRISTMAS COVERS

None, Im off to the bar during those

Posted by: vibe 8th September 2022, 05:26 PM

Anyone get meet and greet?

Anyone have the setlist for the RAH gig?

Posted by: Yobnedor 8th September 2022, 07:05 PM

The meet and greet is just too much money. Even for all 5 of the girls I’d think twice (and snap a ticket up instantly…)

Posted by: dannjohn 8th September 2022, 08:14 PM

RAH. She did a fair few singles if memory serves though not Crickets Sing.

Had a quick look and it seems like some dates are just over half full but since I was going through the venues' own websites, I cant quite tell how much these are actual tickets sold or how much the seats in grey were blocked for Ticketmaster allocations...

I guess since the tickets went on sale on the day of the Queen's death, it kind of killed any sort of momentum she was hoping to get...

Bless her and Melanie, both probably have had quite a big set back from this...

It is going to be a rehash of the show I saw in London and I am a bit worried about money since have a Paris trip planned which is turning out a lot more expensive that I anticipated plus Christmas is coming and bills and cost of living are going up.

Posted by: Mr.X 9th September 2022, 05:33 PM

I mean, looking here it seems like the London date might be almost sold out?????

https://booking.lwtheatres.co.uk/event/648bb02b-c72a-ed11-83d1-8e9ad6414863/performance/fae2398c-c72a-ed11-83d1-8e9ad6414863

Birmingham and Brighton seem also to be doing good, York is more than half full, so does Manchester!! And it seems like ALL meet and greet is sold out already, which is wild considering how costly it is.

Unless they are only releasing small batches of tickets at each time, it seems like Baby is doing quite well already and she has quite a few months to do still! Good for her, I totally thought she would struggle.

Baby is making BANK! Now please do a normal tour sleep.gif

Posted by: sammy01 9th September 2022, 07:43 PM

Tbh it could work out well for her she has sold a decent number of tickets and can do a big promo push 'tickets on sale now' through social media with a little video from her after the Queens funeral. Make it seem like they have just gone on sale.

Posted by: Rebel 10th September 2022, 08:22 AM

I hope she releases an album along with it. I don’t mind a Xmas album because she can deliver.

Posted by: McAndrew 10th September 2022, 08:39 AM

I want a Christmas album too! Her voice is perfect for those classic Christmas songs.

I would've loved a live recording of RAH tbh.

Posted by: schizo_spice 10th September 2022, 11:02 AM

Christmas albums aren’t my thing at all. She should take this success on board and write a strong original material album. Give us the sequel to Free Me that we never got (sorry LIM but you weren’t)

She’s definitely capable of more than paint by numbers covers.

Posted by: -Jay- 10th September 2022, 12:24 PM

It does surprise me that even though she has done (or will do) a few Christmas related projects (two songs, Royal Albert Hall & a UK tour), she hasn’t gone as far as to record a few more songs and release a Christmas album.

It would make sense as a means of solidifying her association with Christmas. On the surface this tour feels random when it’s not tied in with an album.

Posted by: sammy01 10th September 2022, 01:57 PM

Does seem odd to not add a Christmas album too but maybe the pre-order for that is to come they just wanted to sell tickets first.

You would think she would have recorded the xmas songs she is covering any way as back up tracks and vocals for the tour.

Posted by: spiceboy 10th September 2022, 03:23 PM

Yeah I was convinced an Xmas covers album would be coming with it “My Happy Christmas” maybe it will still be announced it is only September I guess.

Posted by: sammy01 13th September 2022, 07:20 AM

I wonder how they will restart this after the Queen's death? I think they will almost ignore the general sale went ahead and pretend the general sale has just started with a social media post and maybe a message from Emma ("I cant believe it I'm so excited my first Christmas tour tickets are on sale now").

Was unfortunate timing really.

Also, almost all VIP Best Seats are gone for London. A couple of days ago she still had quite a few left, but they seem to go quite quickly as well...

So her main expensive tickets are flying, which is good for her! Hope she sells out at least a couple of dates

Posted by: Mr.X 18th September 2022, 12:16 PM

OK so she seems to be doing quite well in London (nearly sold out) and ok in the others, but damn the Birmingham one needs a big push, as it is quite low on sales... Such a big venue though at 2 262 seats, so not surprising

Capacity of venues she is playing:

London Drury Lane: 2 196
Birmingham Town Hall: 2 262
York Barbican: 1450
Brighton Dome: 1700
Manchester Bridgewater Hall: 2 355

Surprisingly, she is doing quite well whereas in 2019 she struggled to sell the Albert Hall (capacity around 5000), and she seems to have already surpassed that.

Lets see what the next few months bring. She needs to get out there and do some promo though. She would be clever to get out there and sing Christmas classics on TV and Xmas-related events...

I suppose RAH was just London wheres this is more spread out so casual fans are willing to attend dates closer rather than travelling to london and paying for a hotel etc. Then there will be those who love Xmas and are booking it as an Xmas treat rather than because they are Emma fans as they will know the Xmas songs. It’s quite clever of her really doing Xmas shows as she can tap into markets outside of her own and the spice girls fan base.

Yeah seems like the most volatile so far, sadly... I mean, for a solo artist with such small back catalogue and no solo touring experience, it is quite an ambitious tour.

If she does cancel anything, it will be that Birmingham show, sadly...

Posted by: Yobnedor 18th September 2022, 02:21 PM

They’ll go on Groupon before it’s cancelled

Posted by: Mr.X 18th September 2022, 02:35 PM

For sure. It is what happened at the last minute with the Albert Hall too

Posted by: sammy01 18th September 2022, 03:11 PM

There is plenty of time to sell the cheap seats to the casuals. All she has done is some social media posts about this so far, I'm sure some TV, radio and print promo will come but more like in November. If anything is struggling come early Dec then that is when the groupon stuff will happen.

London will almost certainly sell out and all dates the expensive tickets are the ones sold.

OK so the London date just released more tickets for the Stalls and the Royal Circle which looked like were completely sold out before... So I guess some of the tickets have been held back and are being released over the next few months...

So it doesnt look like Emma is selling as well as she was anymore LOL...

Posted by: dannjohn 21st September 2022, 03:56 PM

she barely sold Albert Hall in 2019 and she had an album to cross-promote then so i'm not sure why her team thought they'd do a whole tour.

If memory serves, half of Albert Hall was comped out.

Posted by: vibe 21st September 2022, 04:44 PM

^ dont think it was for half the venue !!

The negativity in this forum in every thread at the moment!

Posted by: sammy01 21st September 2022, 04:52 PM

Surely releasing more tickets is only a good thing. They were either being held back in fear of not selling or them not being needed or they are selling well through LW theatre link so have given them more allocated tickets.

There was barely anything left on ticketmaster when I checked the other day.

It was not half the venue at all.

What La Bunton needs is a new pop record. Some cool vintage bangers like Maybe or Mercy by Duffy.
I’d love that so much. And I’m sure it would help to sell live shows.
Such a pity she kinda gave up recording new solo music.

Posted by: Lukuzz 22nd September 2022, 10:13 AM

I’d quite like to see her but nearest to me is York and I can’t see many people wanting to go with lol !

Posted by: colinn 22nd September 2022, 12:44 PM

Not sure why she doesn't just release a Christmas album to accompany the tour? Maybe that's the plan and she will do a lot of promo around the Xmas period.

Posted by: dannjohn 22nd September 2022, 01:06 PM

there must be a plan to release something xmassy?

Posted by: Mr.X 22nd September 2022, 02:09 PM

Im not sure I can justify going to the Brighton date anymore, or any of the dates tbh, as my work in the UK (the reason I was in the UK in the first place around that time) now finishes on the 6th and really I cant justify staying for so long anymore after that...

Cost of living crisis is biting my ass, and even staying with friends (which is the plan still) feels a bit ridiculous, so I am not sure I will attend this anymore...

If it was a Non-Christmas focus concert where she played only her solo music and Spice songs, I would absolutely make the effort but after the cringe fest that was the Royal Albert Hall, this Bunton fan is struggling to find a strong enough reason to stay for an extra 10 days in the UK just to wait for Bunton....

This tour was included in the Spice Girls mailer for SW25 clues. That will no doubt help sell tickets.

Simon Ellis is back yahoo.gif cheer.gif

Hopefully this means he will be more involved in 2023 Spice Girls tour as well!! That 2019 Spice and Albert Hall MD was terrible, it all felt like CD versions of the songs, whereas Simon always gave live instrumentation his best focus and expanded the studio sounds into the live setting!!

This is GREAT NEWS cheer.gif

(now she just needs to sell tickets quicker!...)

Well… not necessarily. The versions he did for S Club 7’s tour in 2015 were quite cheap. His involvement doesn’t necessarily mean we’ll be flung back to 90s quality.

Plus he went in on the Spice Girls in 2019 when he wasn’t employed for that tour, he was so unprofessional.

About his attitude, he was clearly pissed off cos he had always been their MD from day one, but I remember reading a Spice Circle fan who worked with him that he was still close to the girls behind the scenes. He was just feeling a bit left out, and it is proper good that he is seemingly on good terms.

About his quality, lets see. Surely it would be an improvement from the 2019 tour though... In terms of quality of sound and the arrangements, it was all so bad....

Posted by: sammy01 13th October 2022, 03:45 PM

Tbf to Simon Ellis has there ever been an arena tour with a smaller budget than S Club 7's reunion one? It was done with change from a ten pound note.

Emma was on ITV This Morning today and mentioned one of the other Spice Girls will be joining her for one of the shows this Christmas tongue.gif

She refused to say which one as she would rather it be a surprise!

Which ones do you think would be? I bet it will either be Mel B in York or Mel C in London...

No surprise to anyone but she also mentioned she and Jade will do a duet! And she did say she will bring a bit more solo songs on the tour (PLEASE!!)

Spices-wise, she mentioned she hopes they will do a tour in the future. She mentioned 'don't know if it will be a tour but we have plans in the pipeline' and she also talked a bit about the documentary they are working on!

Yeah all dates are pretty much sold out on ticketmaster, they could do with allocating them extra tickets.

She’s obviously going to be joined by Melanie G to perform Sophisticated Lady. Duh

Posted by: sammy01 22nd November 2022, 09:48 PM

13 tickets left (and 3 partially obstructed view tickets) for London on the theatre's website, sold out on ticketmaster and gigs and tours. So the London date is basically sold out.

Hopefully she can keep pushing the other 4 dates now and the lack of London tickets will push people towards those dates too.

Yeah this is true and good for her to take this brave step, specially as she is not known for being a touring act!

Having said that, a Christmas-show is more an easy sell than most normal live shows (unless you are the Spice Girls as a group obviously). It is a period of time where most theatre and live music venues get an easier crowd, so I am not that surprise that she is doing well!

She does absolutely need to sell the Birmingham and Brighton shows though! Oh and turns out I will indeed be in Brighton during that week so I will be coming with a couple of friends w00t.gif

A live band travelling to 5 dates would be expensive I'm sure. This tour will have to be done on a tight budget I'm sure.

Will Young sang 2 become 1 with her. That would make a great live recording on Spotify get some nice streams.

Posted by: Merry Christmaz 13th December 2022, 04:32 PM

Well Simon using the ROTSG backing tracks for all Spice Girls songs and not using a live band makes it all look a bit cheap. Glad they not asked Simon back for Spiceworld 2019

Posted by: Mr.X 13th December 2022, 04:44 PM

Yep, low budget affair. Reclying of music production from old tours, singing to a backing track, no band, and the set looks straight out of poundland.

What a shame for what is technically Emma's first solo tour. Doesn't really set a good standard, does it?...

Posted by: vibe 13th December 2022, 04:51 PM

Using a live band takes lots of rehearsal.
Emma would never!

Posted by: -Jay- 13th December 2022, 05:03 PM

When his involvement was announced I did have a feeling that old music would be recycled, because he did that with the S Club 7 show. I suppose a tour of this nature was always going to have a tight budget though.

I still don't understand Emma not recording and releasing a Christmas album to support this tour! Based on the set list, this is what an Emma Christmas album could have been. I've put it in the order of the set list, I'm feeling too lazy to come up with an imaginary track list order. kink.gif

1. Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
2. Step into Christmas
3. Jingle Bell Rock
4. Let It Snow
5. Sleigh Ride
6. Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
7. Merry Christmas Everyone
8. It's Beginning to Look at Lot Like Christmas
9. Santa Baby
10. Rockin' Robin
11. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
12. Merry Xmas Everybody
13. Coming Home for Christmas

Posted by: Mr.X 13th December 2022, 05:27 PM

The Brighton Dome just released more tickets for tonight, it looks like she didnt even sell a third of the tickets, sadly.

It's going to be a quiet night tonight, I hope she will be ok! I am going to it, though I almost pulled out after seeing that she doesnt have a band and it is recycled music, and my friend pulled out due to the strikes.

Bracing myself. I really wish this wouldnt have been the cheap thrown together affair it is but alas...

Just got back and yes she mimed quite a few Christmas tracks and also Maybe sounded mostly mimed. On most of them she couldnt remember the lyrics in the verses and would just smile/giggle through it lol bless her teresa.gif

Songs that were definitely mimed:

Santa Clause is coming to town
Step into Christmas
Let it snow
Rockin around the Christmas tree
Merry Christmas everyone
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Rockin Robin (this was actually great and you could tell she would have done this a great single!!)
Maybe (at least half of it)

Coming Home for Christmas (she started talking as it was ending and her mic was clearly off here)

She was clearly with a sour throat though, cos her speaking voice sounded rough. In her solo and Spice songs you could tell that they brough the backing vocals quite high to back her up as she was struggling.

The show is fine, very camp but it is a very low budget affair and it shows, sadly. It's a shame cos when she was 'on' she was really amazing. Her version of Have Yourself A Very Little Christmas was STUNNING and sounded mostly live. Rocking Robyn was cute but all mimed.

I would say the biggest let down was Merry Christmas Everyboy, as it sounded like unrehearsed karaoke. It was fun, but clearly bad lol So bad it was fun I guess...

The Spice tracks are the same arrangements as the TROTSG tour, it is baffling. Even the Run DMC sample in the beginning of Stop was copy and pasted LOL

The biggest surprise, and problably my favourite moment was at the end of 2 Become 1, Will Young did a riff in the outro that was quite beautiful whilst Emma was dancing around the stage. And her version of "Have yourself a merry little Christmas" was great though and should have been a single, as it suits her so well!

The solo medley was great. What I Am was particularly cute and got everyone dancing. The Spice medley was cute too, and clearly EVERYONE was there for the Spice songs and the solo songs. Mama was a bit flat in this one, for me. Say You'll Be There was great, and Viva Forever should have had the arrangement from Albert Hall at least. Doing an exact copy and paste of the TROTSG tour was a bit tooooo on the nose! Even the choreography of the dancers was the same. It was a bit too much!

Jade Jones and Will Young are incredibly handsome men, sex on legs the both of them and it is clear how close they all are. The song with her family was... well... it happened LOL I think they were aiming for a cute moment but it was a bit flat...

She really should do a theatre tour of her own songs only with some Spice stuff thrown in.

The venue was like half full but it didnt feel empty at all, so that was a bonus! It was clearly pappered as my friend got given a free ticket cos she works for the NHS. Good for her to do that though, as it made the venue look more packed than it actually sold tickets.

For me, this is the end of the current Bunton support. I will be there first row if she does a solo tour of her own music. But I am not interested in this mummy-does-Christmas vibe she has got on. If it works for her, then great for her, but this isn't my thing at all, so if it becomes a regular thing, I most probably will miss it next time.

Posted by: sammy01 13th December 2022, 11:01 PM

I defo don't think she could do this yearly. I cant see people rushing to get tickets next year, though I get why she has done it this after the Albert Hall gig gave people a taste of it or FOMO with it being only 1 show.

It does set her up nicely for an xmas album next year though. Promoting it as the songs she loved to sing on her xmas tour ect.

Posted by: Mr.X 13th December 2022, 11:09 PM

Yeah after this, I do think she will do a Christmas album and do another Christmas tour. Much to my dissapointment, it does sound like that would be a clear next step.

If she did a Christmas EP even, it would be good for her imagine. She DEFINITELY should record and release Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, as it really suits her and she sounds BEAUTIFUL in it.

I think she could have quite a lot of success with that one, personally! Suits her better than Santa Baby or even Coming Home For Christmas.

A Christmas EP for her wouldnt be bad, specially if she includes her already released Christmas songs, plus Rockin Robyn and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, and maybe a couple of others too.

I wanted to have BOTH! But surely she could have had like two dancers and get a f***ing band too! She didnt need 6 dancers thats for sure!!

To be fair, it seems like there were hardly any rehearsals as the dancers seem to constantly just flail around without much idea what to do.

Overall it's obviously a very low-budget affair - has there been any reviews of it yet? It makes me wonder what the "normies" outside the Spice fanbase thinks...

Posted by: Mr.X 14th December 2022, 06:18 PM

The lack of rehearsals is so obvious!!

I went with a couple of friends and they were really dissapointed at how badly put together it was..

It's a bit embarrassing to be honest - this should've been a launch for her to tour more in the future and a good word-of-mouth is necessary for even the smallest of tours. It's how Mel C has managed to keep touring despite selling three copies of her latest album; people know they're going to have a good time. Honestly, I think it would've been better to have invested in doing an "intimate" thing and interact with the audience rather than this jumbled mess in order to build up her touring profile.

Posted by: Mr.X 14th December 2022, 09:32 PM

In a way, on paper it was quite a clever move cos it makes sense. She can combine members of the GP who are fans of her TV/Radio/general celebrity work (lol) and her Spice Girls fanbase...

There was just no momentum for it besides the announcement day. No previews, no much promo either. It's odd on how it all played out.

She seems to be having fun though, and good for her! She has managed to sell out London and it's not like she is playing to empty rooms either elsewhere. So it should be ok, jsut hope she doesnt get any terrible reviews.

I do hope this gives her the buzz for a solo tour of her own stuff but I will wait and believe it only when I see it!

Oh I agree and in a way you can see that she kind of panders to the people who bought that "mom" book she did with the "family" sing-a-long, or whatever it was. In all honesty - she probably could've pandered more to them with the shilling of the tour by terming it "family-friendly" or something.

With that said, looking at the videos the biggest issue is that it's all over the place but she's not really invested in one thing that would give it the wow factor. If she wanted that many dancers, then well, better make sure the routines are tight. Or, as I said, I'd rather she'd invest in a live band and go for the intimate vibe. It's all a bit... school production as it is.

Also, considering Emma seems to want people to sing a long a broschure with the Christmas song lyrics would've been adviseable since I can barely remember Mariah's All I Want For Christmas lyrics. A bit forward thinking would've gone a long way on this project.

I wonder if she will be able to perform in London? Such bad luck that she got ill. sad.gif

What I'm about to write is speculative because of course there's many reasons why she could have got ill. I was kind of surprised that her meet and greet photos had her in such close contact with the fans. Those photos do look amazing and they have to be the best meet and greet pictures I've seen since before Covid, she definitely gave those fans their money's worth. I just wonder if some level of social distancing would have been wiser. Obviously that might not even be the reason at all and what's done is done, I hope she has a speedy recovery. heart.gif

Hopefully she will be able to do London at least, but this is such a blow to Emma and the York/Birmingham fans cry.gif

Posted by: Mr.X 18th December 2022, 11:27 AM

It is an incredibly unfortunate position to be in, sadly... She sounded very rough in Brighton (which was also another reason to know she was miming ah...)

This time of the year is very bad for colds and viruses, and I hope she is recovering well. As a live singer, she really needs to take more care of herself. Touring is grueling and can really affect you. I remember she started exercising and do vocal trainings for Spiceworld2019 early in the year. Granted, that was a much bigger tour and rehearsal period, but even in a smaller tour like this, specially in the winter, you need to get your body in shape to withstand the amount of workload, people around you and the winter viruses...

Artists rehearse for months sometimes for small tours. Emma rehearsed for 6 days for this. It is clearly not enough from a rehearsal point of view (and it shows how unprepared they all were...) but also to how your body adjusts to the suddenly change of pace in your life. It doesnt look like she was ready, AT ALL. And it shows. Touring is hard, no matter the scale.

She will be fine for London. It is completely sold out, and she has had a few days to rest up and get better. She will do it even if she is in the same position as in Brighton, i think, whereas she is a bit rough still but she will go through it, rely on the miming, and rest properly afterwards.

What a shame this whole tour has turned out to be. For her first tour, the only saving grave has been London selling out. Most of the fans and online chatter has been about this being a mediocre affair overall.

She should release music and start going to festivals, doing the gig round like Mel C does, even if she doesnt want to do as much as Mel C. But yeah, she need to hone in her craft!

Six days is insane! I realise that they probably couldn't rehearse for literal months since it would blow the budget, but on the other hand Emma's not someone who regularly tours and thus have a lot of tricks up her sleeve. Someone like Mel C *might* pull it off because she regularly performs and has at least a core set of people around her to help with pulling a show together. Emma has no such crew and yeah, you could tell just by the dancers that they didn't have time to even perfect simple dance routines. The more I hear about this project the more I wonder how they could expect this to not end in shambles.

Absolutely. The more you train and prepare, the better it will all be. Sadly, this was always meant to be a low budget, 'this will do' affair and the absolute mess it has become is predictable under these conditions.

Sadly, it doesnt really bode well at all for her as a solo act. The illness is the last worries here. It is the absolute shambles this has become.

It's not even so camp that it is good. It's just all a bit lame and sad.

Posted by: StephenN18 18th December 2022, 01:19 PM

It sounds like Emma is doing London tomorrow, she said she feels a little better and is going to rest all day and can't wait to see everyone tomorrow.

Posted by: Mr.X 18th December 2022, 11:25 PM

Yeah she is doing tomorrow's show for sure.

Can we also STOP with the rumours that she is pretending to be sick so she can cancel the shows and claim back money from the insurance claim? Can't a (Spice) girl be sick for once?....

PopJustice members are doing too much on this. Why create more drama when she was clearly sick already in Brighton. When she spoke to the crowds she sounded rough and with a sour throat already! No wonder she got really ill!!

Posted by: Yobnedor 19th December 2022, 12:04 AM

It is also a fact that Birmingham barely sold anything though. When you see the amount of tickets left across all of the ticketing vendors - there were lots of seats left.

Pretty sure that happened in Brighton, a lot of tickets were released in the morning and then it looked quite packed, there was a lot of free tickets given away. They would have done similar in York and Birmingham to be honest, so I dont think it would be a problem. The top tier in Birmingham were closed off for like a week as it was clearly not selling.

But Brighton didnt look too bad in terms of actual people there, and everyone was on their feet the whole time so it seemed ok. Certainly not packed, but not that bad either.

Posted by: sammy01 19th December 2022, 08:29 AM

Emma is a very very rich woman she could easily take the hit on a couple of half sold tour dates. She would make plenty back on the merch (£5 for a candy cane that is a 20p candy cane on a piece of printed cardboard).

She loves to perform and I'm sure was absolutely gutted to cancel shows.

She will probably be the same in London as with Brighton, struggle through it but obviously know it is the last date so if she feels like shit after it Tuesday she can get back to bed.

Posted by: Matttttt 19th December 2022, 10:51 PM

There's only really two options for guests to jump and sing, which is either 2 Become 1 or Stop. The other Spice songs and her solos are all in medleys so it would be really hard for Geri to come up to Say You'll Be There as it would need quite a bit of rehearsal for the timings, etc. However, she totally could have jumped on to do 2 Become 1 or even Stop really. Certainly, it would have made the Brighton show a million times better!

I think it's more that Geri hasn't performed live since the 2019 and that was with tonnes of rehearsals. I don't think she'd be comfortable with doing an improv performance, but that's just my feeling. She's a perfectionist and only does shows that get rave reviews.

The backlash to that performance (and the poor reception of the single) was probably what made her quit performing and making music...

The George Michael tribute song, I forget its name now, was such a really weird angle to sell a song from. Yes they were friends (but hadn't seemed very close the last few years of his life) and just felt a bit forced.

To be honest if that is how she is going to perform then really she should give up, because if she did that on a big stage somewhere or on TV she would be crucified! Where was the confidence of the girl who did Oman or Tickled Pink? Her performance just a few years earlier of IRM and Phenomenal Woman at stand up for Cancer were excellent she sounded good, she actually had some dancing which she managed well... such a change!

I'm not really sure what she was thinking with AIC to be honest, I don't want to be cynical but I feel it was very much an attempt to get a hit which was a little crass to be honest.

Who knows what goes on behind the scenes, but the change was quite brutal for sure. It didnt really change then, it changed during before the Half of Me era (remember that???). Her performance at some TV event of that in Australia was slandered precisely for the same reasons. Then the single underperformed spetacularly in Australia, the only place where it was released in the first place.

Then she got that deal with Warner (I think) and this was the only thing that came out from that.

I don't think it was meant to be a huge hit, just a simbolic nod to her friend. She even got the singers who did the backingvocals for George and producers that were afiliated with him too, it was meant to be a cute homage.

It just didn't land at all, sadly. And her performance skills were no-where to be seen either.

So who knows what happened... Maybe with the passage of time and how difficult it became for her as a solo act after Passion, she never really recovered her confidence from that, and slowly detiriorated in terms of performance?...

I wish she would do the Tickled Pink events more often. That was her putting it together, right?... Maybe she could have done a few more, one each year, where she would invite others to perform. I could see her doing really well at things like that
