Renowned for his portrayal of gritty characters on both the small and silver screen, Jim Broadbent has forged a career playing earthy, flawed leading men.
But now Broadbent, who won an Academy Award in 2001 for his role in the challenging biopic Iris, is preparing to take on a very different part - as a talking trumpet in the Teletubbies.
The BBC show, which was last made 14-years ago, will relaunch on the CBeebies channel later this year with an all-star cast.
Jim Broadbent said: “Teletubbies is truly a British institution and it’s very exciting to be involved in bringing this global hit back to our TV screens. I’m really looking forward to working with the Teletubbies and giving them big hugs."
Broadbent, 65, will play the part of the Voice Trumpet which makes announcements in the show.
He will star alongside Children in Need host Fearne Cotton.
She said: "“Teletubbies holds a special place in my heart so I’m honoured to be part of this well-loved TV show. As a mum, I am sure the new series will enthral a whole new generation of children across Britain and I will certainly be watching with my kids."
Absolutely Fabulous star Jane Horrocks, who played Bubbles, will lend her voice to the show's new 'Tubby phone'.
She said: "I am very excited to be playing the Tubby Phone in the new series. The series has a whole new feel to it, I think it’s hilarious, and it will appeal to adults as much as it does children.”
Good, bad, indifferent? The original is certainly iconic.

I was 7-8 when the original run was first on air, and given I'd been bought up on 'Rainbow' (now THAT was an awesome pre-school show) and 'Sesame Street' when Channel 4 still aired it at lunchtimes, I actually found it pretty patronising.
Especially considering Anne Wood, it's creator, had actually done some pretty good stuff - the original series of 'Brum' and 'Rosie and Jim' springs to mind. Different strokes for those who were 1/2 when it was first on air and loved it though I'd imagine.
