So yeah I wanted to post about this the other day and found that no one ever made a thread for any of Doja Cat's previous singles or her album, oop ~

This is technically an album track (for now at least) but it's rapidly becoming more relevant than any of the singles were thanks to TikTok and it's her best song so I'm making this thread just for this song, I guess if anyone has any thoughts on other songs from the album y'all can post them here too or make another thread xx
edit: this has kind of turned into just a general thread about her so I have re-titled it to reflect such, until someone feels like making a new thread for any particular new release from her xo

Anyways. This is v good, some groovy disco vibes, very different to the singles which was a pleasant surprise! Would really like to see this properly blowing up for her, it's #68 in the UK this week up from #83 last week

I'm absolutely OBSESSED with her at the moment, in a way that I don't think I've obsessed over a new artist since Nicki's Pink Friday era. She's just so much fun, all the videos are so colourful, some of the lyrics are hilarious and each and every one is just a banger. I agree with you Bre this is her best yet though, properly funky so I'm not surprised to see it spawn a new dance craze. Here's to hoping it takes off in a big way in the next weeks!!

Latest single for the 'Birds of Prey' soundtrack. She's been filming a video too so hopefully that'll arrive soon.

This goes OFF tbh! I feel like it's very reminiscent of Azealia Banks so if you're a fan of her then I'd definitely listen.

I like some parts of 'Boss Bitch' (i.e. the instrumental and the verses) but it's let down for me as I think the hook falls totally flat, and that's hard to look past when it takes up a good half of such a short song. :x

I just love how versatile and creative she is none of her songs really sound the same.I hate to compare or say it but she really gives me Nicki Pink Friday Era feels from her whole look to even the way she switches from different genres and styles of rap how she can go from songs like Say So with a more pop vibe to Rules with a more Hip Hop vibe

I would compare it more to Lizzo - Juice with the mix of disco and a few rap lines with the trap delivery. Speaking of which a Lizzo/Doja Cat track collaboration would work very well I think.

Very happy that 'Say So' has managed to become a legit hit beyond minor TikTok relevance though, remains easily the best thing I have heard from her to date. <3

I didn't think Nicki's verse was that bad but the decision to completely change the beat for it and then clunkily switch back to the original song definitely isn't the one.

Glad the remix has happened if only for the fact it'll give the song a top 3 (likely top 2) peak though

I listened to this for the first time today and I enjoyed it. The first half of the album was really good but it started to sound a bit samey in the second half. But the short runtime meant I was never fully bored with it. I would have liked a bit more variety though.

Not surprised at this, its been around for a long time now. I am sure many artists get bored by the time one of their 'sleeper hits' reaches its peak in the charts. Wonder will she stick to the disco-pop sound of Say So for her follow up hits or just go full hip hop. Hoping for another Boss Bitch style dance song but it seems unlikely as that was more a 'novelty song' for a film soundtrack.

Also, I will predict now that Doja Cat will be the next artist to have an artist forum on Buzzjack.

(I believe I saw the other day that that is being pushed to radio soon anyway, could have potential to be another relatively big hit by post-album single standards since the album wasn't huge when it came out. I've only heard that song once which was quite a while ago now but I remember thinking it was fairly good, should probably give it another go)

Also the 'original version' of the remix is definitely an improvement on the other version they released, the beat switch was just a really badly executed idea.

The same amount of versions of Savage were released this week. Remix explicit and remix clean. The "original version" of the Say So remix came out on Friday and therefore is outside the tracking range for the impending Hot 100. It's completely fair.

I feel like Say So will get the US #1 on Monday, the song has the sales and radio advantage over Savage which are weighted more than streaming.

Either way, this chart battle must be so exciting for both Doja and Megan who on the verge of getting their first #1. I will be happy whoever gets the #1 but I'm hoping its Doja as Say So (solo) deserves to have a #1 accredited to it.

Doja has bundle sales as well added to Say So on top of the different remix releases as well so it gives her an advantage. I wasn't aware the version released today didn't count for this week though. Like I said either way I will be happy for both . In an ideal word the one that ends up at number 2 will go number 1 the following week.

I would rather see 'Say So' at #1 than 'Savage' based on the solo version but it'll be a little bittersweet as in terms of the remixes Megan's is much better than Doja's it's cool that they'll both be top 2 though.

That comment was more aimed at fans for hilson implying that this #1 for Megan/Doja is somehow less valid than Cardi's because of being boosted by remixes

The Kodak remix (and another remix with Messiah) would obviously have had some small impact (highly doubt they would have made the difference between #1 and #2 but I don't remember how close it was to be fair) but they're not comparable at all to the remixes for 'Savage' and 'Say So' considering those songs wouldn't have even been close to #1 without their remixes. Those 2 remixes have a combined ~15 million views on YouTube and ~33 million plays on Spotify to date (with neither ever making even the top 200 on US Spotify), the 'Savage' remix has very similar numbers to that already in just over one week and the 'Say So' remix is around halfway to those numbers already too. Again not saying that makes Megan and Doja's achievements less valid, it's just that their remixes were clearly much more important than the 'Bodak Yellow' ones.

My comment was more about Nicki having to go for number 1 by jumping on successful songs. Megan getting Beyoncé is not less valid and is actually more valid than Doja/Nicki as it’s raising money for charity. It’s just Nicki and Doja have now released 2 different versions of the remix to try getting Nicki a number one which is a slight eye roll and makes it less valid.

The US rules are so confusing.

Like Nicki getting her first #1 through this song is so mad! Same as S&M remix being a #1 for Britney lol.

Are the sales for the original and remix combined for this to be #1 but the remix sold more for Nicki to get credited?

I’m a fan of the track though. Prefer the original but as far as female rap goes it’s one of the better tracks of the last few years in that genre definitely. I actually like that Doja can really sing too!

Yeah they are combined and whichever "sold" more gets credited, I think it mainly depends on which version is sent to radio and Kworb has it as the remix on the radio charts

Billboard's stated rules are that they use the artist credits for the version that contributes the most to the total 'chart points' (i.e. sales, streaming and airplay combined under whatever ratio Billboard are using at that time). So yes, the original and remix are combined and apparently the Nicki version contributed more than the solo version at least this week.

Some predictions are saying Say So is very close to staying #1 this week in America which would be good cause it almost felt like it only got to #1 because of the competition and bundles last week so longevity would help it feel more like a #1
Also her biggest competition is 6ix9ine so she needs to be #1

It looks from the replies to Simon Falk's predictions that he's basically guessing at Ariana & Bieber's bundle sales, he was initially way off predicting the bundles for 'Say So' last week so given how close his figures are I think they probably still have a very strong chance at #1. Let's not have 6ix9ine get there please lol ~

Surprised this is still being projected to stay ahead of 'Savage' anyway though. Was expecting it to drop to #4 or #5 again this week (and it may still do as there isn't a lot between the top 5 in those predictions).

I'm kind of expecting 'Blinding Lights' to be back at #1 next week but maybe I'm just underestimating Doja's staying power given she managed to hold up at #2 this week. (I think the release of the 'original' remix + the massive takeover on iTunes was actually part of this week's tracking week so that might explain why she held up better than I expected but who knows xx)

Blinding Lights seems to be starting to fall on radio whilst Say So is still making decent gains, but either way I’m glad it’s not collapsing down the chart like I thought it might have done after the remix peak wore off

Honestly though after reading into this a bit I kind of just feel sorry for her more than anything else. It seems she has some pretty serious self-loathing issues and she can't be mentally well to still be associating with those kind of people (not that it would ever have been ok for her to do so but the evidence here seems to be from as recently as this week which is crazy, I was assuming at first this was the usual case of Twitter dragging up old comments to cancel people but apparently not).

Doja has already been cancelled for a while for those who were paying attention so this isn't really that surprising but this is so much worse than I thought it'd be ~

I was aware of her use of f*ggot and I’d KIND OF overlooked it knowing it wasn’t her intent to be homophobic (doesn’t make it not wrong obviously) but this is...dodgy af We were rooting for you, we were all rooting for you. I agree with Bré, if she has these attitudes it’s AWFUL but I hope she’s okay.

I loved the aesthetic but I feel like the performance was lazily lip synced or is just me? Maybe there was a slight vocal delay, I don't know, something seemed off, my other half agreed.

I'm really hoping her team choose to push 'Cyber Sex' next because that'd smash.

'Streets' is now taking off in a big way, #20 on Spotify! Thanks to TikTok yet again

Not my favourite on the album although it does remind me of Tinashe which is never a bad thing. Hopefully she capatalises on it blowing up and does a video / promo for it - she was quick with Say So, hopefully it's the same case for this.

Yeah ‘Streets’ is shooting up the charts big time both in the US and over here . It’s actually one of my favourites from the album so good to see it doing well and looking to be another hit for her potentially. I also LOVE the live performances of it she’s done !
