So there fans out here who don't wanna be spoilered about the setlist or any other things from the tour.
From now on please post any spoiler information like setlist or which song they will or won't perform in this thread.

Emma has said on the Guardian interview that they won't be doing Headlines on this tour ohmy.gif https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/mar/23/emma-bunton-interview-the-spice-girls-victoria-bathroom

actually a bit surprised - and hopeful - to know that they wont do Headlines or solos on this tour.

Emma confirmed Geri IS performing on Holler this time.

Posted by: sammy01 23rd March 2019, 11:17 PM

I'm taking what he said about Holler with a pinch of salt right now, he included random useless info about her filling in on This morning and Lorraine Kelly but couldn't fit in the juicy tour gossip of Holler with Geri?

Posted by: Voodoo 24th March 2019, 04:50 PM

^ If this Holler rumor turns out to be true, it will be so awkward to see Geri being clueless trying to be gangsta. I can't even picture it.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 24th March 2019, 05:19 PM

'Holler' is definitely pop enough for Geri to handle. I welcome her inclusion. She'll be fab.

Posted by: sammy01 24th March 2019, 05:48 PM

I think it wont be the full on R&B Holler it will be a dance remix or poppy version. I just cant see Geri in leather strutting around.

Posted by: Piers 25th March 2019, 12:12 AM

Not doing Headlines is probably the right choice. I personally like the song. But its chart placing isn't exactly the group's finest hour.

I wish they'd reconsider the no solo songs idea, though. I don't think they should do anything that barely charted from the past ten years (it'd seem too self-indulgent). But there are songs from their solo history that actually made quite an impact in their time...and would play really well with the stadium treatment.

Basically, anything that was a #1, I think should be up for consideration. Maybe the whole group could perform them? The four of them could certainly pull off a live It's Raining Men better than Geri alone.

Anyway. I don't want the solo stuff to take over. But. Personally, I think the big solo hits would get a bigger fan reaction than, say, trotting out Something Kinda Funny again.

Outside of the #1s, even When You're Gone and Look at Me would probably get the crowd going. Look At Me certainly needs redemption...after Geri's last performance of it at GAY looked like an office powerpoint presentation.

If they do a solo medley of their biggest hits that could be ok, but apart from that, naaa

I think a solo medley would be pretty cool, I like the idea of them doing solo songs as a group. I know I've said it a million times but I really really do not want covers I'd much rather solo performances than covers!

Tbh they don't need solo songs or covers their discography is so strong their songs alone are enough!

1. Wannabe
2. Say you'll be there
3. 2 become 1
4. Who do you think you are
5. Mama
6. Spice up your life
7. Too much
8. Stop
9. Viva forever
10. Goodbye
11. Holler
12. Let love lead the way

13. Love thing
14. Something kinda funny
15. Naked
16. Saturday night divas
17. Never give up on the good times
18. Move over
19. Do it
20. Lady is a vamp
21. If you wanna have some fun
22. Get down with me

OK I didn't realise I left IUCD out, that replaces Naked for me. Do it is a MUST! Wasting my time no thanks, it's a nice enough song but it's a bit boring and I can't see them dancing to it very well, seems like a standing around type song...

Posted by: Piers 26th March 2019, 04:44 AM

I'm glad people dig Wasting My Time and Get Down With Me these days...but I'd frankly be stunned if they actually performed them on the tour.

I'd venture to guess they'll only do Holler, LLLTW and Goodbye (if that counts?) from Forever. Mel B has professed her love for Tell Me Why a few times. But I figure it'd be a smidge awkward performing such a negative song...*with*...the person it's about. Singing Goodbye with Geri present is one thing. Singing Tell Me Why with her is a whole other thing...unless the song ends with a record scratch and Geri blurting out "Wait. This is about me, isn't it?"...followed by a wah wahhh. In which case...I say go for it.

My guess is we're getting the #1s (and #2) alongside the best known album tracks from Spice and Spiceworld...and a few covers. I know we don't want that. But they've done covers on their three other tours. Not sure they'd stop now.

Me too it's the laziest shittiest thing at a concert. I get it if you only have one album worth of material you need to bump it out, but they don't they have 2 multi-million selling albums worth and then a third (less known) one too. There's 12 songs which have #1/#2 status, they can easily pick another 8-10 from the albums.

Then there are 16 solo albums between them worth of material which includes 8 big #1 hits respectively (25 hits if you include the top 10's). There is really no need whatsoever for bloody covers. wacko.gif

Posted by: Spiceboy 26th March 2019, 12:18 PM

That's just made me think, the girls have quite an impressive solo chart record really! I mean a hit is classed as a top 40 placement, so the girls have had 51 solo hit singles in the UK as a group and solo.
Of those 51 hits 48 of them were top 20 hits, 40 of them were top 10 hits, 31 of them were top 5 hits, 24 of them were top 3 hits, 21 were top 2 and 17 were #1's.

Their solo sales may not be huge (Only Melanie C and Geri sold over a million records in the UK) however their chart placements as a whole are more impressive than a hell of alot of other bands....

Yay even better yahoo.gif

Posted by: Mr.X 26th March 2019, 06:12 PM

I always thought that it was incredibly unfair how they were treated over their solo sales, simply because they came from the Spice Girls. Of course they have advantages with that platform, but as solo artists they didnt automatically get the same level of platforms that they would get as a group.

Therefore, the fact that people actually considered Top 5 and Top 10 FLOPS back in the day was incredibly hard on them. Imagine. Most artists never even get a top5 let alone a #1, and they are considered successes.

ANYWAY

This to say, no covers needed. What other group can claim 17 #1s between them? NONE! They have plenty of recognisable bops that weren't singles either. No need for pointless covers - and if I see another sodding Celebration Medley, im gonna punch someone.

I hope I'm not sat next to you when they start singing their new celebration medley then laugh.gif

I agree with you re their 'flop' status from such an early stage with their top 10's and top 20's. The likes of Louise had quite similar success to Emma for example with a few top 10's and top 10 albums yet she had quite a big solo star status and wasn't seen as a flop (she never had a #1 either). It is totally unfair.

The Beatles managed more than 17, they had 27 between them (17 as a group, 5 for Paul McCartney, 3 for John Lennon and 2 for George Harrison... Ringo is the Victoria of the group peaking at #2 solo). Pretty sure The Shadows also had 20 (14 Cliff Richard and 6 Shadows) tongue.gif

I'm not the biggest Beatles fan but there is something for everyone in their discography, they are like Madonna pretty much everybody has to admit to liking one song. My favourite of theirs is Elanor Rigby. Love quite a few though:
- When I'm 64
- I wanna hold your hand
- I get by with a little help from my friends
- Let it be
- Get back
- Lucy in the sky with diamonds
- The long and winding road

Are my personal favourites. wub.gif

Let's not forget 'Come Together'. Have to say I prefer the original to Victoria's interpretation tongue.gif

I find them most boring and at best, overrated personally.

Perhaps their constant presence in every playlist, every pub, every radio station, every TV show in England has made me bored of their music, I can understand that.

That includes dance breaks for costume changes, it is more like 19 or 20 songs.

Posted by: tommie 6th May 2019, 05:55 PM

Well, excluding Headlines that's 12 songs, and I'm assuming they'll include Move Over this time around so that's 13...

Oxygen is being mentioned by Emma a lot so that might be one of their non-singles they'll do?

Let's just say you wont be getting anything left field and only 3 Forever songs (I'm sure you can guess which). 1 medley of 2 album tracks 1 Spice 1 Spice world, the rest the obvious singles and very obvious spice/spice world album tracks.

The set list I saw was very general public pleasing rather than hardcore fan pleasing. I'm sure you can pretty much guess the album tracks from the first 2 albums.

It wouldn't have made sense to do any random Forever album tracks with Geri in the line up. Spice and Spiceworld are the big sellers anyway and at a Stadium tour you want to think your audience actually knows the album tracks.

The show is 2 hours. It has dance breaks, costume changes etc, plus not every song will be its basic version, as you have seen with previous tours songs sometimes have outros (2 become 1), dance breaks (IYCD) etc.

Wembley in '98 was 19 songs if I'm not mistaken and 1 of those was a solo and another a Mel B/Mel C duet.

Infact Wembley in 98 had 3 covers so it was actually only 16 original group songs.

I could totally see it being this set list actually. A SHAME if they don't touch on Forever bar the singles, but that is the most likely scenario. I really hope one day they would do a live rendition of anyting other than the singles from that album. Gosh, what a waste of a good album...

TROTSG was 21 songs and a medley and a catwalk and that felt quite short tbh, so 19 doesn’t fill me with hope.

Posted by: schizo_spice 7th May 2019, 06:31 PM

Mama has always been near the end in most of their tours.

It probably holds a lot of significance seeing as a lot of their old fans will now be mothers themselves.

Posted by: Spiceboy 7th May 2019, 06:38 PM

Mama is always one of the last few tracks so I can see it. I really hope that is the setlist it looks awesome. Make the missing tracks Step to me and love thing and you’ve got a perfect setlist!!

Love Thing is track 16 tongue.gif

Posted by: Mr.X 7th May 2019, 07:39 PM

That would be a good playlist apart from the last two!

If they close with Mama and Wannabe, I will probably just start making my way out so I can get to an earlier train home. Those two are my least favourite Spice Girls tracks ever lol

Posted by: Lukuzz 7th May 2019, 08:53 PM

That second setlist sounds great, especially the addition of If You Wanna Have some fun and Walk of Life. Fingers crossed that it's correct. Would love to at least see 1 track they don't normally do amongst the obvious hits and most loved album tracks

Posted by: sammy01 8th May 2019, 06:30 AM

There is no way they are doing 24 songs, Chris confirmed there are 24 lines on the sheet people are seeing but some of the lines are dance breaks/costume changes.

Also I'm absolutely sure it starts with Spice Up your life.

Posted by: Maurice! 8th May 2019, 07:31 PM

The dancers saying on their socials that today was the last day at the studio. I guess they start stage rehearsals tomorrow.
Don’t think we get any updates/spoilers till the 1st show day.

we might have the possible songs that are on the setlist

And the stage design that was posted earlier might be real

Posted by: Mr.X 10th May 2019, 10:28 AM

Dont think that is the set list per say, it looks like a bit of research into previous tours and what they did with those tracks. To be honest, that IS the kind of set list taht I would imagine, but I would hope at least one more Forever track..... Sadly from the video they released today it seems like there wont be much from Forever other than the singles... Let's hope

Not buying the above set list, way too many Forever songs just don't see them doing anything other than Holler Goodbye and LLLTW, also I'm pretty sure Emma said they weren't doing Headlines

Posted by: Maurice! 10th May 2019, 11:48 AM

Yeam Emma said there was no Headlines..

Posted by: Mr.X 10th May 2019, 12:41 PM

Hhhmmmm so parts of it sound absolutely amazing but I dont buy it either.

Emma has said that there is no Headlines, although things might have changed, you never know! What I find most suspicious is the amounts of Forever tracks and the lack of Never Give Up On The Good Times.

Although that woud be a pretty AWESOME set list though and I would TOTALLY be here for some Forever representation! I just dont see it happening lol

Posted by: tommie 10th May 2019, 01:44 PM

Yeah, that's fake. No way they're doing that many Forever tracks plus Emma said no Headlines. Nice try though.

Wonder what Playlist DNA / Tour DNA means?

If those are the album track choices then I'm very pleased! I suppose Last Time Lover was a long shot, they must have felt from the start that it wouldn't translate live?

Interesting if they leave out The Lady Is a Vamp this time considering on the last tour it was the only album track they did in full. Honestly I wouldn't miss it, it's never been a huge favourite of mine.

Behind the scenes look at their art director & team working on Spice merch etc:

Play list / dna list must be the setlist !
I am not disappointed .

😂 That would totally happen! But I think there's next to no chance of it being performed anyway, especially with Geri being there

Posted by: SouthernStar88 11th May 2019, 05:51 PM

The second setlist is obviously fake...the list of songs in the Kate Moross video is quite the same of the setlist who sammy01 informed us in a previous post...maybe they have decided to omit Naked and Denying (unfortunately, I love it)...a setlist with those 21 songs could be perfect…
It would have been nice in my opinion to add Last Time Lover, a Forever album track (IYWHSF or RBAY) and one b-side or one of the rarities (Walk Of Life, Step To Me, Song For Her…)...

However, changing the topic…. I'm happy that the art director is a non-binary person...is a further message of inclusion for all the people of the LGBTQIA+ community….PEOPLE POWER!!!!! <3

I think that's pretty much it. It's the one album track that they've continuously ignored from the beginning and I doubt at this point no one has suggested to them to perform it. Either it just doesn't work live or they all unanimously hate.

From the press release of the conference today at Croke Park...says Jess Glynn will be on stage at 7pm and Spice Girls on stage at 8:15pm. During the conference they actually say Spice Girls on stage between 8:15 and 8:30pm and that the show ends between 10:30 and 10:45pm. This suggests a running time of about 2hrs 15mins. I'd imagine it will be at least 8:30pm before the girls come out. It also says 75,000 tickets have been sold, of which 20% were purchased outside of Ireland. Hopefully all the publicity today will sell the final tickets. Plus there is an enormous amount of media attending this from around the world. And most importantly it now looks like it will be a decent evening weather wise, there was news reports last weekend that it could be a washout. This should ensure a few more sales on the day.

Out of all the Spice and Spiceworld songs, I just figure it'd be the hardest to perform live. I'm not sure Geri could replicate the sexy voice thing on stage (...seems like that's very much a studio sort of thing). And that song really depends on the sexy Geri voice. If she went out and just sort of shouted the vocals live...I'm not sure it'd go so well.

Though I would've loved to hear it live at some point. Moreso than any other song of theirs, my opinion's changed the most on that one over 20+ years. It was my clear least favorite in 1997. Now? I'd probably rank it fifth or sixth on the album. It's a good one to play people who just think of Wannabe when they think Spice Girls.

According to Kevin on Spicecircle we can add We Are Family to this list too

No surprises there unfortunately.

No Naked and no Move Over. Do It and Lady Is a Vamp being performed.

Literally wanted the reverse. Do It is just awful bubble gum pop. LIAV is also overused!! And f*** off with the whole We Are Family bullshit. This is the THIRD TOUR they cover that song. What a pointless move...

He's vile. Even though I'm an Admin for that group, he's so prominent there that seeing his name regularly makes me feel incredibly uncomfortable and anxious, to the point that I just don't want to visit there any more. Typical that some of the girls put him on a pedestal - if only they saw what he's like away from their faces.

That setlist looks like a good one for the general public, glad to hear Move Over has been heard too. I'd prefer something else over Lady is a vamp, it's a fab album track but never feel it translates great live. As for We are family, it's the only cover I can tolerate if we really have to have one. sleep.gif

From what I heard on the various clips from people filming outside the stadium.
WDYTYA is faster but fully live. Mel B taking over Victoria’s lines
Holler is quite different but all Victoria’s solos are cut out mad.gif
SYBT Melanie C/Emma doing the bridge
Love Thing sounds like the album version, Emma doing Victoria’s lines.
2 Become 1 Geri doing Victoria’s verse. Sounds like the Istanbul/SW tour version with Emma doing the long OOOOOOOONE break.
Stop is extended in the middle and has a different outro. Geri doing Victoria’s lines
Too Much has a long intro Mel B doing Victoria’s lines
SUYL is quite samba.

Interesting... wonder why Mel B got Victoria's lines in WDYTYA? I thought Melanie C would take them like she took Geri's last time round.

Was totally expecting SYBT to have Melanie C and Emma doing the bridge.

Thought Mel B would get Victoria's lines in Stop, and Emma would get them in Too Much...

Basically the only thing I guessed right was SYBT laugh.gif

If these reports are true, Geri has been given less lines than I'd expected. But then, Mel B is a safe pair of hands in terms of live performance.

In terms of the setlist... I know it's not a greatest hit, but I loved their live version of 'Step To Me'. Mel B's rap was so good. Would've loved that over a cover.

Well, yes and no to that. There was a lot of miming involved. Not everything, as they very clearly sang a lot live too. But it was track heavy in places, with whole verses and bridges mimed in some songs.

Yes I remember that from 2007. Hope some of these issues will be ironed out in the next couple of shows.

And that Geri throws away that awful first dress blink.gif

This is all so exciting! Mel C with the blue in her hair feels particularly nostalgic. wub.gif bring on June 15th!

I hope Mel B doesn’t use the F word in the next shows, I don’t think the audience appreciates it.

I love the outfits they did wear for Wannabe, the was the nostalgic factor they missed on the last tour.

I thought it was nice how Mel B said “5 of us” in the Girl Power interlude video.

Yes that was a very nice touch. I suppose in the last tour for Wannabe the only nostalgic part was using the stairs for the chorus choreography.

Not entirely. There are certain songs that were never live on that tour. Who Do You Think You Are was mimed then and was definitely not entirely live last night (at least not the verses anyway). Hoping they get a bit more confident and go fully live for the rest of the tour.

I'm pretty sure Earls Court is the only time they've done a concert 100% live. Unless Istanbul was before they dubbed it afterwards.

Well, yes and no to that. There was a lot of miming involved. Not everything, as they very clearly sang a lot live too. But it was track heavy in places, with whole verses and bridges mimed in some songs.

Yeah I watched front row YouTube videos and seems prerecorded vocals but not from the studio released versions. Emma put her microphone out to the audience in her solo in 2B1 but you could still hear her lol.

Has anyone read the Guardian review? Quite brutal but it's a good review I guess, as it is not the usual 'OMG IT WAS SO FUN!!!' kind of review that the others put forward. This review contextualises the notion of 'values' presented within the show and how the Spice Girls use those so-called values in a very vaccuous way in general.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 25th May 2019, 04:09 PM

The writer of that Guardian review is obviously trying very hard to ignore every joyful moment of the performance. It's like she wasn't even there. Desperate to inject some bile, she's more focussed on all the tabloid nonsense that surrounds the group, rather than the show in front of her. How the hell does she know anything about their personal values? Bet she doesn't get a lot of party invites.

Well, personally, WDTYA to me never has sounded good with live vocals. So in this case, I would be okay with them keeping the playback lol

This.

So. Look. I get that reviewing a show doesn't mean it has to be a glowing write-up. But. I really...really...hate that Guardian review.

First of all, it's the third publication I've seen inaccurately claim the "boys and girls go good together" 2 Become 1 line was changed for this tour. Are they copying wrong information from each other?

As for the rest...it's a pretty major stretch to imply cultural appropriation just because each girl has their own dance troupe. And to question if there was enough LGBT representation at the show?...and if their feelings toward the community were genuine? Get. Real. They were allies long before that was common for a mainstream pop group.

And three albums can't sustain a show? Since when? How many acts are touring right now with just three albums under their belt?...or less? They had nine number ones. They can have a show. And though you may not like Let Love Lead the Way, if being #1 doesn't make it a hit, I'm not sure what does?

Also. I caught a few typos. Just sayin'.

I second all of this. Why would a writer scratch around in the minutiae, looking for something to be upset about, instead of seeing all the very intentional, positive messaging in the show. They have always celebrated humanity in all its variety. She should work for 'The Sun', not 'The Guardian'.

It was interesting that they exited the stage by walking out rather than via a trap door or door like they usually do. I bet they will have family/friend come up on stage at the final London gig.

They have, arguably, 11 songs that I would rate as very memorable and then Holler and Let Love Lead The Way (plus Move Over was everywhere for a period of time), which might be considered as their slightly "obscure" hit (but not really). That's more than most acts touring today - while I'd agree with the reviewer that if they want to continue to keep touring in the years to come they need to extend their catalogue, this is fine for touring for every 12 years or so.

The show was indeed amazing tonight! And I didnt even mind Geri, she sounded good even if she cant perform to save her life. But I gotta say the sound is f***ing terrible, and it is a technical issue. Really dissapointed with that, as it sounded quite bad at times.

Great things:

- The Dancers

- Emma and Mel B's performances. Mel B is THE highlight of the show, she really gives it all, sounds great, is super entertaining and funny, and dances her ass off. Emma's 2 Become 1 moment is soooooooo special!

- Too Much FINALLY being done properly live!

- The whole vibe of the show is f***ing great to be honest. Really great fun and well produced (apart from the f***ing sound!)

- I think overall it is up there with their best.

- Victoria was NOT MISSED. Like, at all.

The bad:

- The sound.

- Move Over - WHAT A WASTE! Really was expecting they would be on stage singing it. It's just a pointless interlude before another interlude. Wasted opportunity.

- We Are Family - another wasted moment. Like, I get it but it is just bad karaoke at this stage. There is no reason they would do this cover FO THE THIRD TIME!

- The end. They just walk off. It was odd. Ending with Wannabe was fine, and the vibe was great so them just walking away felt sooooooo weird!

I am obsessed with Holler on tour:

Easily a highlight for me, it's fierce! Geri being involved is surreal but I love that she is performing it. Funny to think she's now performed all of the singles that she wasn't a part of back in the day.

Posted by: Michael Andrew 30th May 2019, 06:58 AM

That is amazing! Love that arrangement. Mel B and Melanie C's dance break is everything!

'Holler' was a highlight on the last tour too. Such a great song. Still sounds fresh.

Posted by: Mr.X 30th May 2019, 11:02 AM

Jay, so glad you enjoyed it! I was right in the Spice Circle and this Saturday will be in the Standing Pit, so will have a different experience alltogether. Cant wait wub.gif

Posted by: JosephAvery 30th May 2019, 02:25 PM

I went with Jay on Monday night in Cardiff and I truly loved it, I've barely stopped thinking about it since wub.gif

I bought one of the t-shirts, the programme and the teddy bear (now called Mel Bear *.*) at the merch and found some seats, though it was unreserved and we ended up relocating a couple of times to get a better view laugh.gif Jess Glynne was fine I guess xx

The girls themselves were just phenomenal. From start to finish it was one big celebration and I didn't think there was one single weak moment in the setlist. All four of them brought it and you wouldn't have even thought there used to be a fifth member :') The staging was so good too. As for songs, Holler was a HUGE highlight and I absolutely L O V E the new mix!! Viva Forever really stood out as a special moment too wub.gif

Also no sound issues that I noticed, think the whole thing is quite overblown oops, it's stadium sound, they aren't really made for live music!

Overall, it was just amazing. I wasn't even born when Wannabe was released (!) but I felt like I'd been there since the beginning, everybody felt included! I want to go again tbh

Posted by: Blond 2.0 30th May 2019, 04:47 PM

Holler remix is growing on me and the dance break is hot

Posted by: Theonix 1st June 2019, 01:20 PM

I had an amazing time at the show last night! It truly has been a lifelong dream of mine to see the Spice Girls live so I still can't believe that 22 years after their peak, I got to see them *.* I went with my mum so naturally Mama was a highlight - I was worried that they weren't going to perform it after Say You'll Be There because that's one of their two most popular songs so to have it lead in to Wannabe was very surprising

Spice Up Your Life was the perfect opener, I would have liked a full reprise at the end though as an encore as it really is that huge stadium anthem!

Holler felt very odd, I liked the build up with the Spiceworld chanting but the mashup with Run the World (Girls) didn't really work

The sound was okay, not the best though - Mel B sounded very quiet at the beginning and we could barely hear them during the speaking sections

Overall it was an excellent show, it didn't feel like too much filler although the crowd where I was definitely became uninterested during the majority of the album tracks (and Let Love Lead the Way x) which was a bit annoying when you're standing

I’m aiming to be in Coventry stadium by 8pm, I’m in the Spice Circle... hope I get a decent view wherever I am!

Glad you enjoyed it Theo!

Fairly certain that the Holler performance doesn’t sample Pon De Floor, it’s just very reminiscent of it.

Posted by: d22ghj 5th June 2019, 03:26 PM

If no DVD then I can only assume it’s because they want to save a buck, but maybe they could’ve hired less dancers and not had a support act to save money instead!

Posted by: Mr.X 5th June 2019, 03:31 PM

With the huge success of this tour, they could easily get a TV deal to broadcast it at least, without having to put it out on DVD! Clearly there is an apetite for it and they would have to do very, very little about it themselves as it would be lead by the TV station.

Lets' wait but yes it is not looking very positive at all at the moment, is it...

Posted by: vibe 5th June 2019, 04:39 PM

They really don’t care what the fans want. The tour is for cash which I don’t blame them for.

Posted by: Piers 6th June 2019, 04:43 AM

I mean. Of course, I'd love to have a professional recording of the show.

But. I do have to ask...is it extremely common for groups that aren't current forces on the charts with new music to do concert recordings? They're a pretty strictly nostalgia act at this point. They're not even attempting to be more than that. I just figure record execs are looking to push recordings of the acts still trying to chart with new material.

There's also this. It's well-known that three of the remaining four have a history of being self-conscious about their voice or their live performing ability. Granted, that varies among the members...but it's been a consistent thing with Geri throughout her career. It wouldn't surprise me if one (or more) may have reservations about a recording. It's one thing to perform for a huge stadium...and a whole other thing to have your voice isolated and be under the microscope of close-up shots.

I figure there could also be less interest in recordings among many in the biz today...just because so many fans are recording the show on their phones. So many people are doing it that artists and venues have basically HAD to accept it. Why go to the effort of a professional recording when the crowd will just do it, share it and promote it for free? I'm definitely not saying it's better. But it's stunning the number of hits that terrible, shaky phone videos can get.

Did they struggle? They sold out quite a lot of dates in the US last time didnt they? I think if they do less dates this time but more concentrated, they will be fine. Plus they seem to be in a much better position nowadays to tour and sell out. Nostalgia for the 90s is HUGE at the moment and they will sell really well, I think. They just need to be strategic about it instead of the MESS that last tour was.

Yeah they sold out a lot of the US shows and that tour in total grossed $70million from 47 shows. I seem to recall only the Hartford,CT date being a bit lower because of the snow. And they added more US shows than initially planned.

The crowd loved We are family at Coventry, outside of the singles it went down better than most of the album tracks.

90% of the fans there didnt know any of the album tracks.
Including fans in the circle so this cover was a good addition, and they sing it well.

Posted by: Jay ☆ 11th June 2019, 08:27 AM

I find it so crazy that people would go to a Spice Girls concert and fail to warm themselves up by playing the first two albums! It's not like they're going to see someone with an extensive back catalogue laugh.gif

I guess it was a sensible decision to include a popular cover, and if it had to be anything I think We Are Family was the best choice - at this point they've practically adopted it as their own song.

Posted by: Mr.X 11th June 2019, 08:37 AM

Ahaha true that, my friend even said 'I didnt know this was a Spice Girls song' lol it does kind of feel like a Spice Girls song tbh

Yes I guess a popular cover always goes down well with the crowds but people stood and danced and seemed to enjoy the album tracks, they would have been fine with another one lol

In a way, the spice girls are very privileged that they have so many smash hits that most people remember. I would imagine that not everyone that goes to see a Madonna or U2 stadium gig knows every song, specially as they tour constantly and put out new music constantly and include album tracks all the time.

Posted by: sammy01 11th June 2019, 09:14 AM

That is why I'm happy no new music came with this tour. Dont get me wrong I want new music but an arena tour like xmas in spice world to accompany it would be much better. Please the die hard fans.

+ They pulled it off as a fourpiece. Not trying to be shady but I didn't miss Victoria that much.
+ Mel C's voice and joy!
+ Enjoying VF (again) and the new version of Holler wub.gif

-Geri was a bit stiff at moments.
-Not peforming Naked.
-The 'you are the best crowd' etc said too many times.
-The lines for the drinks/toilets.

I was right at the front of GA in Sunderland and the people around didn't even know Holler. I took a video and all you can hear is me and all you can see is blank faces.

It's normal that people react less to the album tracks though lol.

A lot of people in the previous tours didnt know the album tracks either, and also the singles usually have more impact because they are known by most in the room but also because some people will have a more immediate emotional response. The Return tour was even worse with the solo tracks lol

Random thought 2:

During Holler, why are Emma & Geri having a cup of tea while the Melanies are dancing their ass off? mad.gif

Lol I think it is meant to be tongue in cheek, a bit silly. I also find it cringe though and wish that tehy would do some choreography, even if a different one from the Mels.

I was right at the front of GA in Sunderland and the people around didn't even know Holler. I took a video and all you can hear is me and all you can see is blank faces.
I knew every song and got some strange looks singing along to the album tracks haha

To be fair, I'm not surprised that Holler isn't that well-remembered. Thanks to Spotify we see that it doesn't really increase that much, plus despite being #1 it really did blend in too much with the Darkchild productions of the era. Compared to their other singles it just doesn't stand out that much.

If I wasn't a fan of the Spice Girls it strikes me as a song I'd like at the time but not really remember these days.

World Tour has 50/50 chance of happening - According to Simon Fuller

Geri, the new Posh Spice

I don't see anything Posh Spice about Geri.

God forbid someone isn't the same person they were on stage decades on.

Half an hour to go until Geri performs at Wembley for the first time heart.gif 21 years after she should have done!!

Posted by: Blond 2.0 13th June 2019, 09:18 PM

Geri is acting so posh I've said it even before the tour started LOL

Posted by: Mr.X 14th June 2019, 12:53 AM

Just got home from Wembley and let me tell you this show gets better everytime!

Even Geri seemed way more loosen up tonight and enjoying herself, which meant she actually performed like a pop star tonight!

A delight!

Posted by: Mr.X 14th June 2019, 01:05 AM

Also, Let Love Lead The Way really was a highlight tonight. Emma cried during it and the audience was so into it, amazing!

They were really loving it tonight, were so funny, the band into bit was incredible... Just fantastic!

At last, a sensible review of Spice World 2019, from 'The Spectator' no less. Now there's a source you can trust.

"Nostalgia provided an undeniable frisson. But it was the rude vitality of the four girls themselves, as they swept through a succession of costume changes and routines, that was key to the resounding success of the show."

https://www.spectator.co.uk/2019/06/way-more-fun-than-the-media-would-have-us-believe-the-spice-girls-tour-reviewed/

Posted by: Mr.X 14th June 2019, 11:07 AM

The mainstream English press has clearly have the knives out for them, which is a shame. The latest Independent review clearly has an axe to grind trying to create 'drama betwene Geri and the others' which is clearly a lie about the show last night.

Whatever, the press always hated them anyway.

I think we will know about Oz dates within the next week 😉

Posted by: SimplySydney87 15th June 2019, 01:16 PM

Just saw that an interview with the girls is going to be aired on Sunday in AUS......I think it actually may be happening!!

Posted by: sammy01 15th June 2019, 04:47 PM

Someone who works for their label who gives inside info on Spice Circle has said we will see them in Sydney in a few months and to watch the Aus media. I'm pretty sure oz dates are imminent.

You little ripper! (You bloody beauty!)
Do you know which media company the interview was done with? - I couldn't type in my password to log in here quick enough.

February next year, apparently. At least that won't affect my travel plans late this year in October and November.

I'm on one of the ticket company's waiting list.

I wonder if the concert/s will only be in Sydney or other cities too?

- For those of you in the UK/Ireland, did any of you have difficulty buying tickets?

- How soon did they go on sale, and did any dates/locations sell out?

- Which type of internet connection and device did you rely on, to buy your tickets with?

- What did your type of tickets cost?

The account was @theprojecttv on twitter!! I can’t wait to hear the girls talk about it!!

Posted by: sammy01 16th June 2019, 12:55 AM

The interview is with Project TV airing tonight (Sunday).

Also it seems they will do a stadium oz tour https://twitter.com/destgc/status/1140046701656326144?s=19

Queen and Adam Lambert are doing 3 NZ stadiums and 6 Oz stadiums, they are playing the Metricon stadium in Feb too, so I'd wager Spice Girls might have a very similar set of dates while these stadiums are set up for gigs.

Posted by: Aussie 16th June 2019, 12:58 AM

Thanks, I'm familiar with it.
The Project on Network Ten (FTA TV), there's a Sunday night version and a weeknight version.

I haven't even booked my planned holiday yet for late this year.

I'm in the Tasmanian capital of Hobart.

I imagine Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth will be the 4 places they visit with a couple of dates in Sydney and Melbourne if they sell out.
