New music from him (either "Blinding Lights", "Heartless" or both) will be out tomorrow night.

Posted by: Juan Carlos Nov 26 2019, 05:13 AM

It seems that "Heartless" will be out tomorrow and "Blinding Lights" on Friday. The latter is part of the campaign with Mercedes Benz.

Was wondering when he'd be back. I'm expecting him to dominate the charts then when the album is released. Hoping for either a repeat of very early Trilogy sounds or something like Starboy would be passable too ~

Wow the big releases just keep coming in Q4! Looking forward to hearing this.

Posted by: Juan Carlos Nov 27 2019, 05:06 AM

"Heartless" is out now.

Posted by: SKOB Nov 27 2019, 08:37 PM

This is awful, just horrendous. I can't believe that I liked him back in the day, and a lot! I guess we all change.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Nov 27 2019, 08:46 PM

Heard a leak of Blinding Lights out on Friday and it's actually really, really good! Mad 80s synth vibes, and I'm pretty sure that's the one that's getting a push.

Posted by: Bjork Nov 27 2019, 09:42 PM

yes at least Blinding Lights is more upbeat and energetic
he really needed to step up his game

Posted by: CockDestroyer Nov 28 2019, 10:49 AM

So I see that this era will also be completely shit judging by both of the songs. Fun.

Posted by: Atonement Nov 28 2019, 06:27 PM

'Heartless' is sooooo disappointing. He has done that song 6 times before an better. Also, the lyrics are a bit of a snooze. He really opened himself up on 'My Dear Melancholy' and this seems so degenerate in comparison.

Posted by: Atonement Nov 30 2019, 09:35 AM

'Blinding Lights' is a little better but still... disappointing.

Posted by: Juan Carlos Dec 2 2019, 02:49 AM

"Blinding Lights" is available too.

Posted by: Bjork Dec 2 2019, 07:21 AM

nd of course they're pushing the wrong single

Posted by: Michael Bubré Dec 3 2019, 08:56 PM

I'm liking both of these way more than I expected tbh (wasn't really that impressed by anything I heard from 'My Dear Melancholy,', 'Lost In The Fire' was complete garbage and 'Power Is Power' was just a much weaker version of 'Pray For Me' so it's been a while since I've really been enthusiastic about The Weeknd) - 'Blinding Lights' is definitely the better of these two, loving the 80s vibes! 'Heartless' is good too if a little similar to a lot of his other singles (that instrumental is great tho) x

Posted by: Dandy* Williams Dec 3 2019, 10:33 PM

They're not as bad as I expected either. Neither are amazing but I do like both to an extent, Blinding Lights a bit more than the other one. They do sound like they could just be lifted from Starboy though.

Posted by: lewis🎄green Dec 3 2019, 11:03 PM

Posted by: Michael Bubré Dec 9 2019, 06:51 PM

'Heartless' has gone to #1 in the US in its first full week (his fourth #1 following 'Can't Feel My Face', 'The Hills' and 'Starboy') ohmy.gif The points needed to get to #1 have been very low the last few weeks but even so I didn't realise The Weeknd was doing well enough to get there. 'Blinding Lights' has debuted at only #11 in comparison, surprised there is such a large gap between them.

Posted by: Dircandydircane Dec 9 2019, 07:04 PM

"Heartless" might be aided because it came out first and got the radio push, "Blinding Lights" just isn't being played which is gonna hold it back.

Posted by: Bjork Dec 9 2019, 08:53 PM

^yes thats the difference, Blinding Lights gets 0 points from airplay
while Heartless got 25 million spins

Posted by: dancember Dec 17 2019, 12:58 PM

The Weeknd is officially a record breaker!

He breaks the record for fastest fall from number one as Heartless drops to 17.

Oops!

Posted by: Bjork Dec 17 2019, 01:14 PM

maybe Mariah will beat the record when she falls from #1 after Xmas

A record is a record tbh x (oh dear at it falling that hard though, it was being predicted for #9...)

Posted by: Michael Bubré Dec 18 2019, 09:30 PM

It appears that the factor that may have pushed 'Heartless' to #1 was him offering a ton of merch bundles for the single to drive up the pure sales (like Travis Scott did for 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM', but he at least avoided having THIS embarrassing of a drop the following week). I really hope this isn't going to end up being as pervasive a problem on the Hot 100 as it is on the BB200... laugh.gif

'Blinding Lights' has unfortunately also collapsed this week though (down 11-52), not helped by the dual onslaught of Christmas songs and Juice WRLD re-entries but there's no dressing up that these are pretty bad drops no matter how many excuses. I hope they can recover a bit, I've grown to really like both of these songs.

Posted by: JanuarySaleSnake Jan 10 2020, 05:43 PM

Indeed Blinding Lights is very good, reminds me of Pat Benetar - Love Is A Battlefield from the 80s a bit for some reason which is a very good thing

Posted by: Mack. Jan 13 2020, 03:00 PM

Both 'Heartless' and 'Blinding Lights' sounding great from The Weeknd.

Posted by: Addy Gr!nch Jan 22 2020, 03:53 AM

This is so A-Ha - Take On Me, which I love it <3

One of his best!!!

Posted by: shadow2009 Feb 2 2020, 10:46 AM

I like Blinding Lights but it's essentially a Starboy album track - it's basically False Alarm part 2.

Posted by: Atonement Feb 2 2020, 11:50 AM

'Blinding Lights' is really good. Deserved the #1 spot in The Netherlands, and surely many other countries.

I hope he leaves 'Heartless' off of the album. Talk about redundant and done 20 times before (by himself).

Posted by: Mack. Feb 10 2020, 04:08 PM

Absolutely that 'Blinding Lights' has become his first UK #1. Fully deserved from him. 'Blinding Lights' what a song it is from him.

LOVE THAT. I'm suddenly so much more optimistic for this album after that and Blinding Lights.

It definitely has the Trilogy vibes which I'm absolutely living for. I'm suddenly in the mood to revisit that 3 hour masterpiece after which everything quickly went downhill :')

Not a huge fan of Heartless and Blinding Lights but let's hope After Hours is not a fluke and the album will actually be good.

Based on its length and the fact i'm loving the song I think it's safe to say this is just a buzz track. Also Blinding Lights is at its peak. It doesn't make sense to do a Dua Lipa right now for him~

He is so talented. My favorite song - Starboy. He is so good there. But now I don't like his style.

Posted by: Juan Carlos Mar 20 2020, 04:23 AM

The album is available now.

"In Your Eyes" is the next single.

Posted by: 🍆 Mar 20 2020, 07:51 AM

What the hell is that first half of the album. Drum n bass the house 🤕

Oneohtrix Point Ever co-produced Scared to Live... which is so far the worst song he’s done. Sounds so dated and nothingy to me.

Great lyrics.
“But if I OD, I want you to OD right beside me” 🥴😳

Posted by: 🍆 Mar 20 2020, 07:57 AM

Let’s just say After Hours was probably a fluke. Nothing is coming even close.

Another throwaway album but at least he tried something new. The whole thing feels very disjointed to me. Drum n bass, rnb, 80s and 90s influences all in one.

Posted by: mdh Mar 20 2020, 08:57 AM

This is great, his most mature work arguably.

Posted by: dandy* Mar 20 2020, 10:34 AM

I'll give it a couple more chances as his stuff does usually grow on me but I can't remember anything outwith the singles at the moment.

Posted by: blacksquare Mar 20 2020, 12:37 PM

I'm finding it mostly very instant — especially the second half of the album. The production and melodies are really great, but the lyrics...

I could easily put this on and be swept up in it all without really listening to what he's saying — which isn't much beyond occasionally empty and repetitive platitudes.

Posted by: 🍆 Mar 20 2020, 12:42 PM

If anything Blinding Lights is a direct copy and paste from one of the A-ha songs a few years ago...

Yeah, I’m finding the second half to be much much better. It has some evidence that The Weeknd hasn’t completely lost his touch.

Posted by: dandy* Mar 20 2020, 12:54 PM

Yes! It's very similar to something like Forest Fire or Riding the Crest.

a-ha wub.gif

Posted by: LewisGT Mar 20 2020, 12:56 PM

Some really standouts too. My favourites being Snowchild, Faith & Save Your Tears.

many were saying BL was like a unique sound he never did before but for me it's really False Alarm the sequel
which is good but not a a career change

Posted by: John-James Mar 20 2020, 01:05 PM

Save Your Tears is THAT song

Posted by: Bjork Mar 20 2020, 01:05 PM

but I read his label boss saying the album had another huge potential single that was gonna be as big a Blinding Lights
really cannot see which track he was referring to?

Posted by: Cremey Mar 20 2020, 01:22 PM

False Alarm sounds nothing like Blinding Lights!
It always sounded quite Bloc Party-esque to me, which Blinding Lights...doesn’t.

I’m actually quite liking this after not caring much about his last couple of albums.
I think it’s pretty clear he’s going in a different direction to Trilogy so it’s best to just take it as it is I think haha

In Your Eyes sounds huge to me.

Posted by: Jonjo Mar 20 2020, 03:30 PM

Everything from (and ofc including) Blinding Lights is fantastic! So, SO good! It's hardly surprising when reading that Max Martin is involved in a few of them/the 2 main highlights away from BL.

The first half is ok, but I think I'll appreciate it more with more listens as it's not terrible/unlistenable just not very memorable for me. Hardest To Love though... stunning wub.gif

Was hoping it was going to be cherry-picked more but as always the first songs in the album are the most popular. Hoping it can be a hit in its own right as Blinding Lights as been a bit of a monster hit and I'm unsure anything would catch on alongside it.

Also 'Heartless' is sounding a lot better in the context of the album thankfully.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. Yes his music is more commercial than the Trilogy days, but I don't actually think it's worlds away from that. A few more synths and electronic sounds added here and there, maybe a few more positive and universal messages, but the general vibe is fairly similar. The new album isn't chasing any trends so I don't know how it can be seen as selling out for money - if anything I think it will kick start a new era of synth-darkwave music with this album being seen as a the spearhead for it.

Trust me, I miss The Trilogy days as well, but if you can look past that the music is good. As soon as Trilogy was done and he released the first song post-it, it was clear that that sound was left behind and he was going to start experimenting. Good on him I say ~

OMG me too! And I got the vinyl as well I was so confused thinking I didn’t order this. Did it just come if you ordered the album. Explains why they couldn’t fit it through my letter box and I had to re arrange delivery.

Yes the vinyl got added as a last minute HMV exclusive - think it was originally meant for Amazon but as they have taken their focus off of entertainment for the time being they got diverted to HMV cheer.gif

Aside from In Your Eyes I really feel in the minority here. The first four tracks were my favourites so I’m feeling the first half more than the second off just initial listens.
yup - same here

Posted by: Jade Mar 25 2020, 10:44 PM

I was enjoying this so much that I snapped up a splattered white and red collector's vinyl off his store when I was half way through *.* The first three songs are such a strong start, definitely not getting the comments about the start of the album being weak! I found the genre-blending to be an enjoyable surprise, having not read a lot about the album beforehand. My favourite discovery of the the lot was 'Alone Again'. <3 'Faith' was my favourite of the second half. 'In My Eyes' definitely makes sense as the next single as it was sounding like one of the most commercial songs left. Consider me sold on this album, I suspect it'll be a new fave for me to listen to at Halloween

Title track >>> when it comes to the whole project but it was going to take a LOT to top that

Posted by: Bré Mar 25 2020, 10:50 PM

'Faith', 'Hardest To Love', 'Save Your Tears' and 'Alone Again' are my biggest standouts from the album tracks - I can defo see why 'In Your Eyes' is the song people are latching onto the most and I did think that was good as well although I think 'Save Your Tears' sounds like it could be a good single choice too if he does end up pushing any more songs after the album release.

V impressed with the album as a whole (tracks 4-6 were a bit of a lull but it was great before and after that x).

Three new songs ("Nothing Compares", "Missed You" and "Final Lullaby") out tonight at midnight EDT / tomorrow at 5am. BST.

New deluxe version with these three new tracks plus the four previously released remixes and the live version of "Scared To Live" out now.

Posted by: Liam.k. Mar 30 2020, 09:06 AM

Wonder if it was always the plan to release those three new tracks now or if it's to help streaming whilst physicals and TV promo are on hold?

Posted by: Atonement Mar 30 2020, 09:16 AM

'Nothing Compares' slaps.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Mar 30 2020, 09:19 AM

I’m always happy for new Weeknd music but when his album come out just last week and he does this!

I’m guessing and hoping these will be just streaming only tracks. If they get added to the actual CD of this when I’ve just bought it I swear laugh.gif

Posted by: LewisGT Mar 30 2020, 01:08 PM

The new tracks are all pretty forgettable. They should have just been left off the album completely.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Mar 30 2020, 04:06 PM

I’ve caved and bought the three new tracks on iTunes!

Will listen to the entire album again with the new tracks later tonight wub.gif

I will say that The Weeknd IS that Male artist for me though! I just think he’s so talented, such a great singer and I love the switch ups he’s done in both image and musical style too. He deserves all the success that’s going to come his way.

Personally I think it was probably the plan to perhaps do it later in the year. I don’t think he’d need help keeping his streams up this soon into a campaign. I imagine the album will likely have slightly less of a second week drop to usual though

Posted by: StayatHaus Mar 31 2020, 05:27 PM

Lmao, I can see why these three tracks were bonus track exscluives. 3 borefests of songs and really not needed. Don't think i'll be returning to them, when the standard album works so well as a complete package.

Posted by: dandy* Mar 31 2020, 05:38 PM

Completely agree, I took a listen yesterday and they all sounded exactly the same to me with no real melody.

I do quite like some of the remixes, the Blaze version of the title track is a fave.

I take this back - I've gone back to 'Escape From LA' and 'Snowchild' and they've both grown on me a lot. Actually basically every song on this album has been a grower and that's with me already really liking most of them from first listen anyway lol! ~ 'Scared To Live' is the only song that I'm not super into really (and 'Repeat After Me (Interlude)' / 'Until I Bleed Out' but they work well on the album, just not songs I'd go back to outside of that context). 'Save Your Tears' has emerged as my fave after a few listens and maybe my favourite song ever from The Weeknd, it gives me kind of similar vibes to Post Malone's 'Circles', just seems like an immediately timeless chorus. 'Faith' is a close 2nd though, the outro on that song wub.gif

Also really enjoying The Blaze's remix of 'After Hours' from the deluxe edition - haven't heard the bonus tracks yet, not gonna have high expectations from the comments in here about them but the album itself is great enough that it doesn't really matter if the bonus songs aren't up to par x

Think this is a strong rival to Bombay Bicycle Club for my album of the year so far. <3

Posted by: Jordan Lee Apr 4 2020, 11:56 AM

Nothing Compares is fantastic!! And I like Final Lullaby too.

I think this is really cohesive tbh. I listened to the 17 track edition today and it flowed very well some tracks even merge into each other Madonna Confessions style.

Posted by: Jordan Lee Apr 4 2020, 12:58 PM

Also I really slept on Save Your Tears!

That needs to be a single! But I will definitely go back to this as a whole album time and time again.

He’s such a talent and his voice wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

I can’t wait to see him on tour.

We really need an album Surviour rate for this in a few weeks when the albums more familiar to people although I imagine there’s a clear winner for that.

Listened to the deluxe bonus tracks today and of course all three songs were amazing like the whole album is. Nothing Compares is the strongest track out of three. It should have been on the standard imo.

Not sure why 'Until I Bleed Out' out of all the possible choices was the next one to get a music video! I wouldn't mind just getting a video for every song on the album tho tbh, the visuals this era are so impressive.

I hate that I can't hear 'Until I Bleed Out' without thinking of the elongated high notes in the last part of 'The Fox' by Ylvis kink.gif

A Doja Cat collab is interesting! Never really thought that the song could do with another artist but I'm intrigued to how Doja will fit in. Just don't spoil the sax!

Posted by: Gerald May 21 2020, 08:49 AM

Absolutely love the In My Eyes remix. Doja’s vocals sound really good on it. Hope it gives the song the boost it needs.

Posted by: Bjork May 21 2020, 09:31 AM

good enough but she should also have been in the chorus
The Weeknd always sounds good in duets with female singers, love all the duets with Lana

The remix is nice, not sure it’ll give the song a great boost but anymore recognition for this masterpiece is appreciated

Posted by: Liаm May 21 2020, 09:59 AM

I really like the remix, Doja fits in just right without taking anything away from the song and it feels more like a duet rather than just tacking a verse on like a lot of remixes.

Posted by: Atonement Aug 24 2020, 08:28 PM

I heard 'Save Your Tears' on the Dutch radio a few days ago. It also entered the Dutch tipparade (basically what the Bubbling Under is to the Billboard Hot 100). It might be a Dutch radio only single as we've had those before with 'Legendary Lovers' (Katy Perry) and 'Homesick' (Dua Lipa), the latter of which actually was pretty huge. But still I hope it will be an official single, even if I don't see it doing much.

Save Your Tears is one of my absolute fave songs at the moment.

As you say though, it would be sort of a shame if it was a single now and flopped given its unlikely anything is to take off now.

But I guess you never know

Posted by: LJ JORD 7 Aug 24 2020, 10:32 PM

Meh a real downside to Blinding Lights being as gigantic as it was is that it’d still probably still be ahead on streams than what a new single would be if one got a real push.

Save Your Tears does deserve a push I’d say that and Scared to Love are the songs on the album with most potential to take off with the GP. However with news of the Calvin collab coming soon I wonder if this era is either on hold for a time and potentially coming with a re-issue or if we’re gonna potentially get a new era to coincide with next years tour.

I still love this entire album.

It’s rare I really stan male artists but Abel is just something else. He’s by far the best male artist around right now I don’t think anyone else even comes close and this album could overtake and become my favourite from him overall I’m obsessed with it still now. There’s so many tracks I’d love to get a single push too. Blinding Lights being that big almost meant that another single would get lost in the mix although In Your Eyes did well enough.

Hopefully there’ll be more pushed from this album though. Save Your Tears screams single or Hardest To Love!

I’m stunned. Is it possible he didn’t actually submit anything by choice. I really thought he’d be the most awarded artist and that he’d have taken home album, song and record of the year at the ceremony too. What is happening. Poor Abel If they really snubbed him

Posted by: jlj Nov 24 2020, 06:36 PM

I don’t think I’ve ever been this shocked at the total snub of an artist.

Commercially Blinding Lights was everywhere you couldn’t escape it and the album After Hours was very well received both commercially and critically. I’m gutted for him! I had a look at his past history with the GRAMMYs too and they were kind to both of his last full length albums too. I wonder what’s happened here.

Posted by: HausofHitchcock Nov 24 2020, 06:37 PM

QUOTE
The annual nominations for the Grammy Awards are always full of surprises. But in our many collective decades of Grammy watching, we have never witnessed an omission on the level of the one that the Recording Academy committees who decide the nominees have given to The Weeknd this year.

His “Blinding Lights” single is arguably the most ubiquitous song of the past year, and his “After Hours” album will be at or near the top of many sales and critics charts; he’s even playing the Super Bowl halftime show the Sunday after the Grammys. He led nearly all of the expert-predictions lists for the past several months.

And yet, his total number of Grammy nominations for the year that he dominated is zero.

https://variety.com/2020/music/news/weeknd-grammy-snubs-1234839064/

It's the record label's choice to submit for nominations, I cannot see any reason why they would choose not to submit this (the same label that submit Taylor and Drake's albums). Maybe they will issue a statement in time?

Posted by: danvember Nov 24 2020, 06:44 PM

Abel must’ve majorly pissed the Grammys committee off and got blacklisted for that.

Posted by: Wall Nov 24 2020, 06:55 PM

What an absolute joke.

Posted by: dandy* Nov 24 2020, 07:05 PM

Ridiculous that Blinding Lights isn’t nominated. It IS the song of the year.

Posted by: Bré Nov 24 2020, 07:11 PM

Unless The Weeknd's stuff really was just not put forward for consideration for whatever reason, I am completely struggling to see why the Grammys would do this. I wouldn't put it past them to not give him any wins but to not even give him any nominations seems like them openly giving up any claim to credibility, especially with some of the absolute shite that got nominated over him? What do they gain by snubbing one of the most successful artists of the year - both commercially and critically - and especially one who happens to not be white when they already get so much shit for being at least ambiguously racist? A joke lol ~

Suffice to say I'm not paying any further mind to the Grammys this year / probably ever after this.

Posted by: Gerald Nov 24 2020, 07:14 PM

The sooner artists stop valuing the Grammys, the better to be honest. Absolutely tragic that the Weeknd got no nominations when 2020 was his year musically.

Posted by: Wall Nov 24 2020, 07:17 PM

The Weeknd submitted.

Basically means 2020 won’t have been properly reflected in music history by the Grammys

Posted by: Dircadirca Nov 24 2020, 10:39 PM

Mostly only here for the title track on this album but lmao this is a level of Grammys being Grammys on otherwise no brainers that I didn't even know was possible.

Posted by: Chromaticdisco Nov 25 2020, 12:37 AM

Just what has went on with him and The GRAMMYs? He’s done well at other ceremonies like AMAs and VMAs so I thought the biggest one would give him what he deserves and at least nominate him.

Literally 0! It’s very suss. I mean there’s been times when I’ve been shocked at albums not winning awards but they were at least nominated.

Posted by: Rooney Nov 25 2020, 12:40 AM

The Grammys have always been horrendous. Seems like Bieber submitted his stuff for RnB (which it is if you measure the beats used) and they put it on Pop.

The Weeknd throwing shade on Twitter and rightly so. To just flat out ignore is just outright bizarre.

I never think it looks good tbh when artists post things about not winning / not being nominated for awards. I feel it always makes them look bad and as though they feel they’re owed them (even when as fans we think that at times) I don’t ever think it’s good for artists to post stuff like this. Nicki posted something today about not winning best new artist years back (then shading who did win it) and I just thought oh god STOP!

At least Abel isn’t shading other artists but yeah I fear him potentially shading and calling them out may mean he’ll not win any more for future eras.

While I can't disagree it looks salty, he's literally coming off his most successful commerical ever era, had the song of 2020 and has a massive commerical and critical success. To not even have a nomination is just bonkers. What's the point in even having awards if it doesn't celebrate the most commerical and critical acclaimed music? Even the bloody Oscars bows down to the popular vote in at least one of the categories.

Oh that did cross my mind!

Is it possible could’ve done both. I think Gaga did in 2017 (but that wasn’t in a pandemic and I don’t think she was nominated in 2017 either bc Joanne the album was released in October).

I'm not convinced considering the other scandals they've survived. I hope it does break the Internet though. They're crazy if they thought they could snub The Weeknd without backlash.

Are other artists able to comment on this or would they risk getting snubbed themselves? :S

Posted by: HausofHitchcock Nov 25 2020, 07:15 AM

So many of these award shows base it on who can perform on the night. If they're performing they're more likely to be showered with nominations. A major shame that they don't look at the critical and commercial success over ratings on the night. The legacy of a Grammy lasts long beyond that one night and the awards should recognise this!

Posted by: Bjork Nov 25 2020, 07:32 AM

I think it's more to do with the Grammys committee never being a fan of the Weeknd rather than cos of him performing at the super bowl

he got plenty of nominations for Madness but didn't win big and just won a couple little categories
and then with Starboy, I think he only got 1 nomination and it was something minor,
so it was similar to this year

with the Grammys it's about lobbying and campaigning so I Guess his label didn't send big checks

Posted by: Scene Nov 25 2020, 10:24 AM

What a slap in the face for him. I hope some noise is made about this beyond the Twittersphere. Omitting what is widely considered as one of the standout songs and albums of 2020 does no one any favours besides the artists nominated instead of him. Completely unacceptable. And if we're to look at it through a racial lens, it looks like the academy have learned nothing. White artists such as JP Saxe, Julia Michaels and Justin Bieber can churn out the most insipid dirge and can be celebrated for it while a black artist actually brings something inspiring to the table and helped change the landscape of pop with the 80s synths yet doesn't even get recognised. What the f.

His label submissions:

‘Changes’ - Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album
‘Intentions’ - Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Pop Duo/Group Performance
‘Stuck With U’ - Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Pop Duo/Group Performance
‘Yummy’ - Pop Solo Performance

He probably should have spoken to them before making a post about it...

Posted by: blacksquare Nov 25 2020, 11:04 AM

It sounds like The Weeknd snub is purely due to the performance negotiations and the Super Bowl. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry both performed the same year as their Super Bowl shows, but they performed a cover with Metallica and an album track. He probably wasn’t allowed to perform ‘Blinding Lights’ on both — which is ridiculous.

I don't even care if it turns out to be awful, I am fully going to stan heaven at the mere concept.
Actually, it's a remix of "Blinding Lights" and it will be out this Friday. Why this and not "Save Your Tears" which is his current single? unsure.gif

Still excited but kind of lame in comparison to the tease of it being 'Save Your Tears' if true xx

What I don't get about this is the 'Save Your Tears' rumour came from a YouTube Content ID leak which is usually infallible (it called the existence of the BTS remix of 'Savage Love (Laxed - Siren Beat)' for example) - not sure how that is going to turn out to be wrong? Unless it was a faked screenshot from YouTube in the first place but if that's the case it's a pretty big coincidence that there would turn out to also be a real remix with ROSALÍA... laugh.gif

The remix of "Blinding Lights" with ROSALÍA is available now.

Listening now, it's cool, and Risalis sings a lot, even starts the song with some new Spanish lines
but still don't get why they're releasing it now 1 year after the original release
she could have jumped on another album track or done a new single together and that would have had more sense

I slept on 'Save Your Tears' a bit compared to other album tracks when this first came out (#24 in my chart compared to multiple instant top 10s) but it's quietly crept up on me and now I adore it - what a timeless sounding synth record much like 'Blinding Lights' and 'In Your Eyes'. Really hope it can do something!

Posted by: LMLou Feb 8 2021, 10:31 AM

It was probably my favourite half-time by a male artists from recent years, but I was also a bit disappointed. In his interview he talked a bit about story-telling in it which made me think we would get a type of performance we haven't seen before, but it was pretty much just a greatest hits show with him on different parts of the stage. Great vocals though even if the mixing was a bit off and BL will always feel euphoric live

Posted by: Tafty Feb 8 2021, 11:27 AM

I actually really enjoyed it. Surprises me because I usually find him quite whiny, but I thought it was a well produced show and he absolutely gave it his all. The sound mixing seemed to be a bit all over the place, but I feel like that's par the course for most Superbowl Half Time performances in recent times lmao. I wish he did 'In Your Eyes' though. sad.gif

Low-key impressed. Not blown away, but he did what was needed.

Posted by: Envoirment Feb 13 2021, 03:49 PM

I quite liked his half time performance, I didn't think it was anywhere near as bad as what some were making it out to be. laugh.gif

I'm glad the album got such a big boost from it. Also happy to see "Save Your Tears" become a big hit too.

Posted by: Scene Feb 16 2021, 11:12 PM

I for one loved it - his vocals were great all the way through, the showmanship was there giving me MJ vibes and the setlist was solid too although 'In Your Eyes' and 'Secrets' should've been squeezed in. kink.gif Definitely one of the best Super Bowl halftime shows I've seen. As mentioned above I was hoping at some point Lana would come out for a 'Lust For Life' performance. laugh.gif

Posted by: Bjork Mar 9 2021, 09:05 AM

thats crazy, 52 weeks in the top 10

but the crazy thing is how the song is still top 10 on Airplay

Posted by: Dobbo. Mar 9 2021, 09:31 AM

That is an impressive achievement but I do think that's just a sign of the times and eventually one song had to be the first to inevitably achieve it. Loads of songs will be doing that soon.

Posted by: Bré Mar 9 2021, 01:09 PM

Ehh I don't think so. It's become a lot more commonplace for the biggest megahits to have runs that rival what the record number of weeks in the top 10 used to be (i.e. 30-33 weeks, with 'Circles' in a second tier of its own with 39 weeks), but even compared to those 'Blinding Lights' is light years ahead (and it's still as high as #3, could continue this run for quite a bit longer). I'd say it's feasible we might start seeing ""loads"" of songs (i.e. maybe 1 or 2 per year) having runs similar to 'Circles' but I think 'Blinding Lights' will probably remain unique. I believe it's well on the path to being the most successful song in Billboard chart history if it isn't already (the mark for that is Chubby Checker's 'The Twist' which was a huge hit in 2 separate years, I'm not sure exactly how it's measured but Billboard does keep an all-time list that they update every few years or so).

Posted by: Dobbo. Mar 9 2021, 01:46 PM

Maybe loads was a bit of an exaggeration but I do feel when I see these achievements, they always sound impressive at the start but then after a few years it's commonplace e.g. all the streaming records/most YT views in a day/month/year and so on.

Of course it's still a huge achievement to be the first to achieve or break [insert random record] but the only truly impressive ones can't be judged until a good few years afterwards. Obviously then chart rules can change in the time since so this sort of thing can always be open to interpretation.

The Weeknd 'will no longer submit music to Grammy Awards' after snub

The Weeknd has said he will boycott future Grammy Awards after being snubbed in this year's nominations.

The Canadian pop star, whose single Blinding Lights was the biggest-seller in the world last year, was not shortlisted for a single award.

He later called the lack of recognition "an attack".

In a new statement ahead of Sunday's ceremony, the singer said: "I will no longer allow my label to submit my music to the Grammys."

He said he would remain absent from the event until the Recording Academy, which organises the awards, got rid of the "secret committees" that decide many of the nominations.

bit tired of Save your tears by now so I'd rather they would do a new song but guess they really want a new peak in the US now that BL is finally out of the top 10 after like a million weeks, there's no strong #1 in the US right now so this could easily climb to#1

Americans really seem to have a habit of remixing songs that don’t need it.

Posted by: ElectroBoy Apr 23 2021, 08:34 AM

Yeah I was basically going to echo the previous post - Save Your Tears is great as is.

The Ariana remix is ok, but unnecessary.

Posted by: Bjork Apr 23 2021, 08:37 AM

ouch sounds bad, she sings in the wrong key, why she sings so low like if she was Bon Iver in exile? she should sing in the same key as the backing vocals, those are good, but not her main vocals... she should be singing much higher

Posted by: Jade Apr 23 2021, 09:08 AM

It's necessary to give this song a shot at #1 in the U.S. kink.gif

I love the outing of Ariana's lower register, compliments the moody nature of the song well, then her higher vocals flourish in the adlibs and harmonies. Happy with it! Sure it's not a complete overhaul but I wouldn't have wanted that at all with a song as strong as 'Save Your Tears' in its original form. I was so disappointed by the ROSALÍA remix of 'Blinding Lights' (another one of my favourite artists) but I'll definitely be returning to this.

Posted by: dandy* Apr 23 2021, 04:21 PM

I do too! I just listened expecting something awful from the comments but I really like it, I think it would have sounded odd in a higher register and I really like that she’s sung it in a way that compliments and respects the song.

Posted by: Dexton Apr 24 2021, 09:35 AM

It reminds me of the Doja Cat remix of In Your Eyes. It’s a fantastic song to begin with and didn’t need anything added, but the remix doesn’t take anything away from the original either. I’m happy swapping between each version of In Your Eyes when I listen to it and I’m sure I’ll feel the same about Ariana’s remix of Save Your Tears too

5 Weeks ago 'Save Your Tears' hit 100 weeks in the UK top 100 singles chart, as of now it has spent 105 weeks (2 years+). Is is his 2nd song to do so after 'Blinding Lights'. 'After Hours' has also now spent 100 weeks in the UK albums top 100 as of yesterday! It is is 4th projects to do so with 'Beauty Behind The Madness' on 103, 'Starboy' on 116 & 'The Highlights' on 117. I can see him overtaking the former.

Posted by: JLJ May 6 2023, 03:59 PM

Great to see him get another album on 100 weeks!

At the time of release it felt like Blinding Lights was so huge that it overshadowed what else was on the album. In your Eyes deserved a higher peak but I’m glad Save Your Tears eventually got its moment.

I still think this is an exceptional album that was completely robbed of GRAMMYs! I can’t wait to see him on tour now it’s getting close my shows on July 7th!
