So pleased to see the bye in the FA Cup first round going to the lowest ranked side in the competition, Chichester City, who started the tournament at the very beginning with the Extra Preliminary Round and have already had to win six games to get this far!

Comfortable victory for Carlisle in the end. Superb strike from Mike Jones!

Maldon & Tiptree really giving it a good go here against a Newport side who don't look up to match. Just need to get a chance and take it in the second half and they could well pull off another shock.

Posted by: Mack. 29th November 2019, 09:47 PM

Newport County scoring in the first minute of stoppage time. Heartbreak for Maldon & Tiptree??

Posted by: Suedehead2 29th November 2019, 10:00 PM

A good performance by Maldon & Tiptree. Shame it wasn't quite enough.

I think it's obvious tbh, it's clearly gonna be Burton Albion against Northampton Town

Posted by: Houdini 2nd December 2019, 09:13 PM

A trip to Wolves will most likely mean that Man United will be out in the 3rd round, no surprise to see Manchester City getting drawn with a lower league team again.

Posted by: Rooney 2nd December 2019, 09:43 PM

Absolutely shite draw, the only saving Grace is we are at home.

Not being funny but what are the odds we manage to continually draw Everton in the 3rd or 4th round!?

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 2nd December 2019, 11:50 PM

Ugh our kids will likely get beat by Everton then this year.

United will beat wolves imo, they will want a trophy!

Arsenal Leeds will be a cracker tie, hope that's on tv!

Posted by: CaptainMackxmas 5th December 2019, 04:37 PM

BT Sport will televise four live matches from the third round: Rochdale or Boston United v Newcastle (12.31 GMT) and Wolves v Manchester United (17.31 GMT) on Saturday, 4 January, and Middlesbrough v Tottenham (14:01 GMT) and Gillingham v West Ham United (18:16 GMT) on Sunday, 5 January.

Everton's trip to Anfield to face Liverpool in the FA Cup third round will be shown live on BBC One. The Merseyside derby will take place on Sunday, 5 January at 16.01 GMT. Arsenal's match with Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds will also be broadcast on BBC One on Monday, 6 January at 19:56 GMT.

It is a well-reasoned motive.

Hopefully fans get on board with the 1 minute past thing, it's a very important message particularly in sports.

Leeds v Arsenal will be difficult, at least If we lose we can't moan about going out against a bad team. And if we win my Facebook feed will be unbearable!

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 6th December 2019, 03:31 PM

Think Leeds have a chance if they are still on a bad run next month!

Posted by: Houdini 5th January 2020, 01:55 AM

Despite the boring 0-0 draw against Wolves it felt very refreshing to watch the FA Cup highlights on Match Of The Day tonight, it could be because the Premier League has felt stale for most of the season so far but the FA Cup on the other hand remains unpredictable.

There was also some quality banter from Port Vale striker Tom Pope regarding John Stones!

Man United scoring six goals in a match, Jesse Lingard & Phil Jones getting on the score sheet, European & World Champions Liverpool bottling a 2-0 lead to League One Shrewsbury Town. This can't be real! ohmy.gif

In all seriousness the win against Tranmere just papers over the cracks and is nothing to get excited about but glad that we're through to the 5th round. It looks like Jurgen Klopp underestimated Shrewsbury and thought that playing the kids would be enough to get the job done and they should consider themselves lucky to still be in the cup. Most of their best players are in their late 20's now so the inevitable decline from 30 years of age onwards isn't too far away and what we saw today was a glimpse of the future for Liverpool unless if tons of money plays a part in squad development over the next 10 years.

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

It was an FA cup tie, we were poor, fair play to Shrewsbury. Good old fashioned cup tie. It was barely a team of kids either, mainly lots of rusty players coming back from injury. It’s inevitable Liverpool’s performances will drop off in a transition period but players peak at 28-31, ive no idea where the nonsense comes from what they are suddenly going to all become terrible. Can only see Elliot from the kids playing today making it at Liverpool.

Maybe what the results show is is Man Utd should get relegated to League 1 so they can score some goals and win some games!

Posted by: Flatcap 27th January 2020, 05:30 PM

The subject of the necessity for replays has cropped up again. The Premier League has introduced a winter break and Klopp has indicated he will respect that and send in the kids instead of playing the full strength side. Naturally the Shrews will want to test themselves against the top players and I would have preferred that situation...

Again im with Klopp on that one. Why the hell introduce a winter break (that the powers above DEMANDED all the PL teams respect) then go and shove some bloody cup replays in it? Ridiculous...

Posted by: Mack. 27th January 2020, 08:13 PM

It's daft the fifth round matches aren't until the 3rd March. Play it after the winter break.

We then have the added complication of the European competitions returning (Champions' League and Europa League).. wacko.gif

Good goal from Sean Longstaff to open the scoring for Newcastle in their replay against Oxford United.

Posted by: ukchartstatsfan 4th February 2020, 08:45 PM

Even Joelinton scored to make it 2-0 to Newcastle United.

Chelsea lead 1-0 but this game is far from over. Just 22 minutes played & Liverpool don’t look like they’d lie down.

Well it does happen, a good move from Barkley to make it 2-0 to Chelsea.

Newcastle United v Manchester City
Norwich City v Derby/Man United
Leicester City v Chelsea

I would take Tottenham or Norwich given the teams that are left but it's a shame that we couldn't get drawn at home. I think Sheffield United will knock Arsenal out, Leicester Vs Chelsea could go either way but I would probably tip Chelsea to win, Manchester City getting the best draw possible as per usual!

Posted by: Mack. 4th March 2020, 10:32 PM

Will be Norwich in the quarterfinals after winning on penalties. Their first FA Cup quarterfinal since 1992.

Newcastle away is a hell on earth fixture.

Now that United have scored I can only see them getting a couple more goals.

Posted by: Mack. 27th June 2020, 05:57 PM

Some strike from Todd Cantrell to equalise for Norwich City. Romero weren't stopping that.

Posted by: Cropsy 27th June 2020, 06:52 PM

Raising their game against one of the bigger clubs and then lose to teams around them in the relegation zone

Posted by: Mack. 27th June 2020, 06:58 PM

Tim Krul to thank for Norwich City for keeping it level.

I think Cantwell has been taken off in each match since the restart. That suggests that either he is not fully fit or Norwich want to reduce the chance of him being injured and reducing his transfer value.

It wasn't the best of performances against Norwich but we got the win which is what matters most. It would be good to do a FA Cup & Europa League double this season and as far as the semi final goes I hope we get the winner of the Sheffield United Vs Arsenal match. It will be weird to watch matches at an empty Wembley stadium when the semi finals comes around.

A win for Arsenal

Posted by: Wall 28th June 2020, 04:50 PM

Arsenal actually managing too win two games in a row!

Yeh feel bad for Sheffield now, I can see them struggling until the end of the season, they have a team who look like their in a relegation battle never mind a top four battle!

Another defeat for Leicester too, I hope they do manage to start getting some positive results so they can remain top four!

Manchester United and Chelsea will be shown live on BBC One.

The game, which kicks off at 18:00 BST on Sunday, 19 July at Wembley, will also be streamed on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website.

Holders Manchester City meet Arsenal in the first semi-final on 18 July (19:45 kick-off) with the game shown live on BT Sport.

Arsenal are back cheer.gif , they have booked themselves a place in the final, against Man Utd or Chelsea

The holders crashing out after their 6-0 win last year. kudos to them for beating Liverpool and now Man City. I fancy Arsenal vs. Man Utd final.

Wow I'm surprised by that! It's just like 2017 when Arsenal were written off before a semi final against City. We have to do our bit tomorrow against Chelsea, would definitely prefer a match against Arsenal than Manchester City. No chance of a Manchester derby in the final now.

Posted by: Mart!n 18th July 2020, 08:55 PM

I must admit Arsenal had a bad season usually they finish Top 4 of the Premier League, winning the final will be a bonus I suppose.

Best part was the commentator reeling off the list of teams Man Utd had scored hatfuls against in the expectation that a comeback was on the horizon at 3-0!

De Gea had an absolute shocker. Personally I don’t think Dean Henderson is good enough either but there’s a massive goalkeeper problem at Man Utd with De Gea. He’s made way too many of those mistakes over the past 24 months. Utd just looked a bit limp with all the changes they made, they’ll get Top 4 though which I guess is what they would rather have.

I'm inclined to agree. That's just typical isn't it, GK was the ONE position we didn't have to worry about for years & years post-Fergie, it was literally everywhere else on the pitch. Now we've got an abundance of attacking talent and it's the goalie (& defence) causing all the problems. De Gea has been our player of the decade no doubt but this is no longer a slump, he's been well below par ever since that Ronaldo howler at the World Cup...

Henderson gives me vibes of being amazing at a smaller club with zero pressure then potentially cracking when the heat is turned up, a bit like Pickford. BUT Romero is seriously a brilliant back-up keeper and I'd be more than happy to see him take over the #1 mantle.

It's so strange, but De Gea is a fantastic passer of the ball but he can't play sweeper keeper. That is completely the next level of being a keeper with the top teams in Europe, they are not as good shot stoppers as they are more exposed and have to read the game and of course they can make horrendous mistakes like Alisson and Ederson have done. With Henderson, I think it will be a case of when and not if,, but you are so right about the Pickford comparison, although I think Henderson has a much higher ceiling than Pickford.

I've been really impressed woth Romero every time I've seen him, but I think that is a huge statement to drop your highest wage earner at the club.

Anthony Taylor will become the first referee to take charge of two FA Cup finals since 1901 when Arsenal face Chelsea at Wembley on 1 August.

Referees usually take charge of the FA Cup final just once in their career.

The move is because coronavirus rules mean the game will be behind closed doors, and the Football Association does not want a referee’s family to miss out on attending the match.

He didn't 'save a shot' from outside his box he came to collect it and it may have been outside the line? It would have been a yellow card and free kick. And it was a penalty, he was manhandled inside and outside the box.
