Liamk97 mentioned the fact that Kylie's album X is turning 10 this year. So I thought, why not celebrate this with some topics and rates etc?
To kick off proceedings, let's look back at the first glimpse of new music from a post Cancer Kylie.
In the silver shadows I will radiate and glow for you...
White Diamond, written by Kylie along with Jake Shears and Babydaddy of the Scissor Sisters, was first perofrmed in the opening act of Kylie's 2006 Homecoming Tour. The song was also produced by the two SS members, which is obvious by the sound of the uptempo verison performed on tour. Many thought this would be Kylie's big comeback single, but that honour went to 2 Hearts instead. The studio version of the uptempo version never properly leaked and didn't make it onto X, replaced instead by a ballad version that was used to promote the White Diamond documentary film.
Would White Diamond have been a good comeback single? Would it have made more of an impact than 2 Hearts?
What do you make of the song? Which version is your favourite?
A lot of fans say 'The One' should have been the lead single so I guess many would have been happy with the uptempo 'White Diamond' filling that role, too. I do like the glittery production of this version but the vocals are too high throughout for me. The vocal performance on the ballad version is much better. A bit of a blend between the two versions would have been my personal choice - I'm thinking something on the lines of 'Confide in Me' meets 'Light Years'; that's the best way I can think to describe what I hear in my head.
I can picture what you're saying and that'd be amazing *.*
Nope, the dance version of WD is too whiny. It is like she was screeching.
I love the ballet version of White Diamond, it makes you feel reflective.
The first single should've been Like A Drug. The first half of X album is amazing until The One (except HBR) but the second half was a big letdown (except Stars and No More Rain). WOW was a childish song and still is a childish song.
The one and white diamond as a double A single would have been great. Both are fantastic songs and show off different styles. I liked 2 hearts but many fans were divided about it and it was her first Parlophone lead single which didn't go top 3. Overall, x was a very mixed album. Some great songs but also a lot of filler too. Some of the leaked songs like I'm ready and spell of desire were stronger than tracks that made the album.
Double A-sides were dated even back in 2007, that would have been a terrible idea.
The uptempo White Diamond is clearly a monster of a track, classic Kylie in the purest sense. I can't believe that it never leaked considering everything else she ever recorded has.
It had potential, I still think it's such a shame we never got a proper studio version of the uptempo version.
I'm also quite gutted the studio version of White Diamond (uptempo) was never released in any form, hopefully one day it will surface in some sort of rarties set or expanded reissues series. Absolutely adore the track and think it could have been a big hit for Kylie at the time.
I mean, we got Flower eventually
