Netflix have nabbed the rights (over the CW) to a new adaptation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It is a spin-off to Riverdale (as Sabrina is based off the same Archie comics) and Netflix have commissioned two series of 10 episodes each!

It’s going to be much darker than the Sabrina the Teenage Witch we all know and will be more inspired by Buffy!

Only just recently rewatched the original series after getting the box set. One of my all time favourite shows... so I sort of don't want this to happen lmao.

This sounds good!! I hope they do a proper crossover thing between this and Riverdale, I know there was talk of introducing her as an actual character in Riverdale but that could just be rumour

This is BIZARRE

Sabrina is literally among the biggest tv shows of the 90s and one of the biggest children's tv programmes of ALL TIME!!

To link it to a programme abooout cheerleaders and sports?? is just bizarre.

I know they have talked aboot doin a Charmed-like Sabrina reboot before, but AS ITS OWN SHOW!!

It is SO huge it is a HUGE injustice to it to piggyback it on the back of some teen angst crap. Bringing it back itself is news - this way, it is overshadowed and seems weak.

Same here! I'm worried about it working because Riverdale is absolute shite, but it's probably better for them to try a different avenue with familiar characters rather than it be remade in the original way I guess.

Oooooh intrigued by this, sounds interesting and I think it has a lot of potential to be really good, as long as they pull it off right

Michael you should actually watch Riverdale, it's not just a high school drama show thing like Glee or whatever, yea the characters are teenagers etc but there's this whole murder mystery element that's the driving force behind both seasons, I don't think Sabrina would be out of place tbh. Things do get remade, it's a good way to grab today's audience and bring them something they didn't really have the chance to be exposed to, that's literally how Riverdale came about too, most people had never even heard of the Archie comics before as it was something that was popular decades ago.

It's linked to Riverdale as they are both Archie Comics? And have appeared together in the comics?

Anyway I think that I am not really hear for this. Whilst I am happy for something darker than the original show. However this seems to be skewing in an odd way.

I believe in the original comics she lives near, and does interact with them, I don't know if they'll have cameo or guest appearances from the Riverdale cast in this. It's better if they angle it differently as I said, if it was a sitcom again it would only get compared unfavourably to the original. From what I've read they changed stuff from the comics in the original sitcom so this could distance and set itself apart by being a bit darker. I definitely have doubts though as it's one of my all time fave shows :/

Sabrina the Teenage Witch was my childhood so I think I'll be giving this a swerve. Whatever they do I'll just compare it to the original and never really give it a fair go.

One of mine too

'Omg ... the Sabrina goes to ... Sabrina!' laugh.gif

It was such a unique and excellent show that I don't see how they will measure up against it - just lik the Spiderman reboors vs the originals, especially when the first two are literally comic book movie CLASSICS.

Kiernan Shipka has been cast in the role, she's only 18 and has previously starred in Mad Men. She certainly looks the part!
