Excited for this to begin. In the interests of not having a heart palpitation if I'm not winning (which I suspect I'm not) I'd prefer to not really be in contention at any point but still do fairly well. Suspect this will be a Beaver/Medhelinia/In Downtown threeway for the win in the end unless something comes completely out of nowhere.

Well, big congratulations Michael, I hope you're ready for next month. Can't pretend I'm a fan of your song but all fair and square and maybe I'll point another winner soon.

Very pleased with 24th, that's not quite the worst I've done this year in the end then, I'm surprised I'm that high actually, but yeah, good haul.

Medhelnia in 2nd (obviously) and New Lexico in the top 5 are real highlights of the results. Shame for Taahino to miss out on the top 10 yet again though, really thought this could be the one.

Anyway, I just wanna say that I am SO PROUD of Medhelnia for trucking along to your first medal position! Mdh, I know you were starting to get frustrated with the contest as a whole with Topic cruelly finishing last in the semi, but I really do think that your persistence has definitely pushed you through, and I am thrilled that you got second out of this. Remember, there is always something to work for, and maybe getting hungry for that win once in a while can keep you motivated to send entries that are as good as "Feeling Electric".

I'm extremely pleased with 16th for an entry I'd pretty much given up on! My second highest finish of the year so far and only 3 points off being my second highest scorer. Great that N DNTN did have a late rally into the top 3 after lagging behind earlier, and New Lexico into the top 5 as well. Projected 31st and finished 16th, matching my biggest ever improvement from the semi (and the third time this year that I've outperformed the projection by 10 or more places). ;o

Semi 2 results in general seem massively different from the final, even moreso than usual - unbelievable that Invader Girl beat Bang La Decks, and Lemon Demon being as high as 2nd??

yep, I'm sure Ramrynia's entry would have finished top 20 at least if it had qualified, reminds me of '4 Walls' DNQing last year which surely would've gone top 10(?) Guess we'll never know.

maybe we should put all the countries that usually vote for each other in the same semi so there's less chance of a 'wrong-semi' effect, though I understand that would be difficult for the host. I know I was very lucky to have all my fans in my semi this month.

As Rich said, that'd advantage the bigger blocs no end and disadvantage those of us who don't send pop or dance, it'd just make it even more likely that those deep in the blocs wouldn't vote for any of the less normal entries. There's a reason why Eurovision doesn't have a former-Soviet semi and a former-Yugoslav semi, to use an example, rather they split those camps evenly between the semis with their pots.

I believe we tried makeshift semi pots along those lines at one point in the past and while it may be fun for hosts with a bit of extra time on their hands it didn't have any noticeable difference to randomised semis so we didn't make it a thing.

Ghosty spent some time working it out and there was a contest where we experimented on y'all without y'all knowledge and manipulated the semi-final split. Made shite all difference really

i doubt it's worth revisiting and I'm so firmly against bloc semis I can't put into words just how against it i am

Don't suppose anyone can confirm the nationality of Bang La Decks for me for stats purposes? Google suggests they may possibly be Greek but it could also just be that they are successful there and not actually from there.

EDIT: Rob informs me they are indeed Greek making them our first Greek winners!

Oops, when Bre said he had me on twelve points lower, I frantically added my scores up again and...it was the case, so I got over it 31st isn't TOO bad though, still narrowly avoiding the bottom 10 I was predicted in by most and allowing for the neat 13th-31st pattern *_*

Weird results for Semi 2 though, I had Trifoski down as a borderline qualifier at best

If there were different 'blocs' in the place of Semi's people wouldn't try and would send songs that were 'good' but nothing more because they knew it would qualify.

Any songs that might have just missed out due to the 'wrong semi effect' (I agree Ramrynia may well have been a victim of this) should theoretically have a decent shot in the Rejects anyway. Nothing can really be done to prevent this happening, randomised semis is the fairest way.
