A great choice! I have never delved into her albums apart from 'Dreams Can Come True, Greatest Hits Vol 1' and she has so many incredible singles. Sunshine is one of her best imo, I feel like that would a great song to start off with! Looking forward to hearing more from her in the album track themed round!

I mainly know the singles but she has many great singles
Dreams, Rise, Give me a little more time, When a woman, Out of Reach

Dreams could be a great song to send first, as it was her debut single
could work well in the final too

Hello everyone.

I decided to send a different version of Gabrielle's Number 1 hit Rise.

I am sure many of you know that the original song was built around Bob Dylan's sample 'Knocking On Heavens Door'. This version also contains part of the song sang by Gabrielle. It is more like a mini mash up that works beautifully. This song really builds nicely so please listen to it in full.

Original fans of the song are still going to like it, i am hoping to reach out to a wider audience with this selection. Bob Dylan loved the original version so much he did not charge Gabrielle to use his sample.

Just found out that my favourite Gabrielle 'If You Ever' with East 17 is actually only credited to (feat Gabrielle) but it should still be considered I hope for one of the 'free choice' options I think as she plays a major role in the track.

Guys please discuss out of ‘Out Of Reach’ and ‘Give Me A Little More Time’.

Both reached a similar chart position and both sold roughly the same amount.

I am tempted to go with Out Of Reach, it is more popular on streaming and i think is more instant on first listen then GMALMT. For a new listener that is important in this game. I do however love both !!

I am seeing praise for IF You Ever throughout this thread. It is one of my faves too and will be used i am sure.

Out Of Reach is well known and generally well regarded so that could work to it’s advantage. I do like GMALMT though.

I love 'Out of Reach'! Been a while since I listened to it so it was great rediscovering my love for it. It went immediately to the top of my rank when I was listening to the playlist, although it did just miss out on my Top 3 by the time I submitted my vote.

Are there any album tracks that people would like to put forward for round 3?

I am saving ‘Falling’ for a future round.

I am also keen to not just showcase the Rise era.

Closure & Always would make amazing choices. I agree you should save Fallen Angel for the upbeat album track round. Breathe is also another good one, I’m not too familiar with her earlier albums. Always would also be a great option!

Closure is my fav of the songs i listed. Fallen Angel has always been a fan favourite.

Round 3 = Closure

The closing song from the 'Always' album, this song was always going to feature in this game but i didn't know what round.
I spoke to Gabrielle about this track and we spoke how it should have been a single when i met her.

I love it, Simon a member here also mentioned this track. My boyfriend and Mum also adore it.

I hope it gets appreciated here.

OMG i have woken up and we only have one vote, and that vote might be void.

I fail to see how this is happening!

I am currently listening to the songs for a second time and will post my vote later.
I did consider selecting a song less deep and more 'pop' but the deep chilled songs from Miley / Kesha have done well.

I have had a few requests for ‘If You Ever’ and was planning to send that next! And her second era / album has not been presented yet, and it is such a great song.

If You Ever does seem like a good idea, a change of pace. Hopefully it would have appeal!

Oh and remember 9 people voted for Closure, and I think it came close to Top 7 for some others... coming last is of course deflating (I experienced it with Mariah in a round last time) but remember at least a few people appreciated it

As a source as to what is and isn't considered "uptempo", google states that typically an uptempo track is 120 bpm. I think we'd be willing to look at anything over 100 bpm (Beyonce - Crazy In Love & Justin Timberlake - Rock Your Body both come up as roughly 100 bpm so we'll use that as a guide)

If you can't be bothered to find out what would be eligible lmk and I'll source it!

5 singles were eventually released from the album tho.

Her latest album release was number 2 in the midweeks yesterday too. Will drop a bit but a good result.

I am tempted to send 'Shine' it is her best song in years, it would have been a much bigger hit if released at her peak. I am keen for others to discover it!
I do however think due to familiarity 'Sunshine' would perform better?

Both these songs mean a lot to me!!

What a beautiful song. This song was written about Gabrielle’s son. This song was the beginning of her artistic peak in terms of sales. This song represents hope after a few years of trauma in the mid 90’s.

I choose this song because it is a fan favourite, it is her 5th most popular song on spotify and there are many fan made videos on youtube for this song.
It is from the 'play to win' album.



It was a difficult decision as i was tempted to throw a curve ball and showcase her more 90's rnb roots and select 'Second Chance' or 'We Dont Talk' from her debut album.
She also has a collaboration with Naughty Boy on his album Hotel Cabana called 'Hollywood'.

Agreed I suppose it boils down to a lot of the people who are taking part in this not really being into the vibe of her music/vocals (which I think is very soulful, quite laidback, but beautiful). Different strokes for different folks. To be fair, The Beatles have never made my Top 7, which some others more than likely think is shockingly bad taste from me, ha.

I really hope Dreams does well, it's one of the very best songs of the 90s.
