Gary Barlow broke the news last night on his twitter account “I’m so happy to tell you all that I’m back on the X Factor this year! See you at auditions."

Great news that Gary is back doing something that he clearly enjoys!

However it looks like Gary and Simon aren't seeing eye to eye:

ITV forced Simon Cowell into a humiliating climbdown yesterday – by securing the early X Factor return of Gary Barlow.

Cowell admitted he wanted to sack the Take That star, who proved hugely popular when he replaced the music mogul on the judging panel last year.

In his bombshell biography, he reckoned Barlow was “too scripted” and a “bit stiff” and had pledged to fire at least two of the judges.

Now executives – reeling this week after a string of controversies surrounding Cowell – have made it crystal-clear head judge Gary is the show’s star.

In a hasty statement, Cowell, 52, gushed yesterday: “It’s great to be able to confirm our first judge for this year’s show. Gary has earned his place and I’m excited to be working with him again.”

And the man deemed not good enough by Cowell will even secure a massive half a million pay INCREASE to come back on the panel.

ITV chiefs were angered in January when he arrogantly claimed he “hadn’t decided” whether Barlow would be allowed back or not.
And in a pointed dig at Cowell, ITV boss Peter Fincham said yesterday: “Gary quickly established himself as a key member of the X Factor judging panel, drawing on his years of experience in the music industry to help in the search for our undiscovered singing stars.

"I’m thrilled to welcome him back to the biggest show on British television.”

One senior ITV source said last night: “Everyone’s wondering what on earth he’s got against Gary Barlow. The fact is that he’s probably jealous of him. Gary is popular and wholesome – everything Cowell is turning out not to be.

“Last year was the first time Simon wasn’t on the panel himself and his ego very much wanted the British public to miss him. They didn’t.

“They took to Gary as head judge with open arms and welcomed him to the show. After week one it was a case of ‘Simon who’?

Barlow, 41, last night signed a lucrative deal worth as much as £2 million to return to the hit show – up from last year’s £1.5million pay deal.

Interesting stuff indeed. Not suprised Gary has signed up as he was by far the most popular judge last year according to all the polls that were carried out. Looking forward to seeing what will happen this year. Guess the media will have the knives out for Tulisa or the new judge if Kelly doesn't sign

Great to see Gary confirmed now, but like all the judges before him Simon will push him out when he feels like doing so. I think Gary should quit live on air towards the end of the upcoming series and shock Cowell. The only negative i fear of Gary doing X Factor is it will delay new Take That music or an album. And this has just reminded me, remember Mark was rumoured to become a judge on the Voice, i do wonder was it all rumour or was he ever in the running at all?

Gary is doing this show for the talent and to find something different. He hasn't performed solo material or any TT material on the show unlike Cheryl and Kelly who got a good bit of promo and sales through the XF. I guess Simon only cares about ratings and money and if the ratings went up by putting through more Louis Walsh type acts then he would do that, whereas Gary wouldn't.

Perhaps Mark realised that the media might try and make it him vs Gary similar to the Robbie vs Gary thing and didnt do it for that reason? Seems like Mark has got most of his time taken up anyways with a new baby coming and setting up some new solo stuff.

X Factor will find it even harder this season to impress. Ratings did drop last season but now the Voice is on and been accepted very well by the public it could do damage to X Factor. Simon Cowell was very confident that Britains Got Talent would outdo the Voice in ratings but the Voice has now overtaken BGT. The standard oN X Factor will have to improve this year and the winners single needs to be worked on as the sloppy cover versions are simply not good enough.

To be fair to the X Factor it still pulled in peak audiences of 12/3 million on saturday and sunday and averaged a healthy 10+ million a week which is fantastic really for how ever many months it is on for. The voice is doing well but I reckon its mostly out of intrigue as to what is going to happen next week etc whereas we all know the format of BGT and XF. With the Voice though there are alot of professional singers that are going on it from the West End or 80's/90's pop group singers etc instead of someone new and raw.

They have removed the management barrier now so anyone can audition regardless of them having a manager or not so we may possibly see better acts. But at the end of the day it only takes ONE person to walk in with a phenomenal voice and the XF has done its job.

I agree, but there was something different about last years x factor, maybe it was because it was almost a whole new judging panel or something. Ratings wise it did well but not aswell as usual, there is no doubt it is still a monster of a show but the voice even though i dont watch could have an effect on the show as in a sense they are pretty much the same.

I don't know why Gary has to be part of an awful show like the x factor, which is based on a repeated formula that is very manufactured and tired now.

“JulieTT06:come on Gary make my day, when will there be some Take That news....I'm have withdrawal symptons
*Not long to wait now*

He also appears to have announced a new solo gig(s) - Barlow_TT: we need a Barlow gig soon Gaz! x” *can u wait till December?*

Doesn't The Voice finish at the end of May? The X Factor is never on-screen before late August.

The audition process begins in May and then it is screened in August.

It's about right as last year TT were on tour during May/June/July and they had to move the schedules around for Gary to sign up

Exactly. So there'll be at least a two month break between the two shows.

I am positive will learned alot from last years season that will help him this year. I hope Gary has stronger contestants this year as i felt he had no stand out contestant last year.

In all honesty - the standard last year was lamentable all-round. If it wasn't for Louis' joke category the show wouldn't have been worth watching at all - it was that forgettable. And the only people to blame for the finalists are the judges. There were two other guys at judge's house stage (at Gary's) who were far better than any he ended up with - but Gary chose to overlook them in favour of what he thought was a 'rock star'. Having said that - the talent on show at JH wasn't all that great either - I'm thinking about a load that got dismissed at auditions and boot camp. The show has had its day and hopefully this series will be the last (obviously to be replaced by some other gimmicky show that Simon has up his sleeve!)

I would be of the same thinking that last years season of x factor was forgettable and that the judges did make a few mistakes and left out some great people in favour of headline grabbers (Frankie), that said, i did and still do like Little Mix and have hope they will do well for themselves. However, acts like Marcus Collins and Craig Colton lacked the special something, acts like Janet Devlin were samey and boring. I hope this years season has more stand out singers and singers that i can get attached to and support each week.

Looks like Kelly won't be back. Favourite to replace her at the moment is Katy Perry. Think she would be a great addition to the panel. With her and Gary people could really look up to them
