Dexton's Top 40 (12/06/2018) (Week 57)
High Hopes is rising high! Panic! At The Disco earn their first #1 here in anticipation for their upcoming album and are joined by Maroon 5's Girls Like You featuring Cardi B in climbing into the Top 5. George Ezra's monopoly at #2 continues for a third consecutive week, meaning Clean Bandit's Solo featuring Demi Lovato is down to #3. Selena Gomez falls gracefully (3-5) after last weeks peak with Back To You. Selena's previous hit, Wolves with Marshmello, managed 7 weeks within the Top 5 but sadly missed out on #1. Back To You is not looking likely to give her her first #1 on my chart! Shake-up within the Top 10 as Duke Dumont, Years & Years, 5 Seconds of Summer, and Post Malone all grab another Top 10 hit for themselves. Duke Dumont's Inhale featuring Ebenezer (12-6) launches up the chart becoming his second entry this high in the chart after Real Life featuring NAATIONS made it to #5 last year. Years & Years are also claiming their second Top 10 with If You're Over Me (16-8). 5 Seconds of Summer's Youngblood (23-9) becomes the bands highest charting single here, whereas Better Now (17-10) is Post Malone's third Top 10 hit and second to peak at #10 following Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign. Khalid just can't stay away from my chart... Giving the American Teen his 10th Top 20 hit and thus far a 100% hit rate in terms of charting songs (as in, every song that's charted of Khalid's in my Top 40 has gone Top 20) is the H.E.R. collaboration This Way from the Superfly soundtrack. This Way debuts at #17. Funnily enough, he will likely be earning yet another chart entry next week as his long-awaited Martin Garrix collab is to be released this Friday. Interestingly if he does get another chart entry next week, he will overtake Justin Timberlake as the artist with the most singles to have gone Top 40 on the chart! Other new entries come from Tove Lo with bitches featuring Charli XCX, Icona Pop, Elliphant, & ALMA (#20), Niall Horan & Maren Morris with Seeing Blind (#32), and Vic Mensa & Marshmello with Reverse featuring G-Eazy (#35). It's a fairly quiet chart week, yep. Tove Lo, Charli XCX, and ALMA previously made it to #19 on Charli's Out Of My Head, will bitches outpeak the supergroup's previous song? Maybe. I mean, it could happen. Bitches is nice enough and is far better than the other girl power collaboration that's out there right now Notable climbers are the former Australian X-Factor contestant Ivy Adara who's Currency (28-19) buys her her first Top 20 hit, Vance Joy's Saturday Sun (35-28) which is ironically charting in the cold sun-less Winter, Labrinth, Sia, & Diplo's Audio (37-29) which is making [sound]waves on it's second run in my chart, and finally Hayden Jame's Just Friends featuring Boy Matthews (39-33) which... has outpeaked his previous single already. nice The album chart continues to be a mildly interesting aspect of my weekly chart with Post Malone's Beerbongs & Bentley's finally making it to the #1 position after 7 weeks of non-#1-ness. Unfortuntely for Jorja Smith this Post Malone resurgence comes on her album release week and her debut album Lost & Found is denied the #1, entering at #2. Shawn Mendes, Snow Patrol, and George Ezra finish off a mostly male Top 5. Jorja is actually the only female artist in my Top 10 right now And if we look at all male members included in the bands, there are currently 20 male artists in my Top 10 compared to just 1 female artist. Not the most fantastic ratio, although what does that matter at the end of the day Ariana's album will slay here so it'll even out soon enough Thanks for showing your face Top 40 Songs (#57) 01 06 Panic! Hello Dexton!
Good to see "High Hopes" at #1, even though I prefer "Say Amen", it's good but it could grow on me in the future. I also like that "If You're Over Me", "Youngblood" and "Better Now"! Our of the debuts, I like "bitches" and "Seeing Blind", I need to her the other two songs soon too. Great album debut for Jorja Smith, hopefully she'll be big in the UK and maybe worldwide too (one can only dream), because right now "Blue Lights" has grown on me! Great chart as always! |

High Hopes is really good, as was Say Amen, they're both (and f*** A Silver Linings) getting me really excited for the new album! Jorja is an incredibly underrated artist. Not on Buzzjack at least, but she really needs to breakout soon. Thanks for commenting! |

Hi Dexton!
Wow @ Panic! It's a good song but they're one of these bands who I quite enjoy listening to in passing but never really end up loving any of their songs. Although having said that I'm sure I have their last album Good to see 5SOS in your Top 10 too, I'm really enjoying that at the moment, more so than the last single. 'Quarter Past Midnight' seems to be falling alarmingly fast Has Niall announced 'Seeing Blind' as a single or are you charting it randomly? Great stuff as always |

Great stuff as always I used to be like that with Panic! until Death of a Bachelor, now I'm a full fan The same can be said for Paramore a think from that vein of music (although they are vastly different nowadays) who I liked in passing until After Laughter made me fall in love with them Youngblood is so much better than Want You Back, at least this is turning into a big hit now! Seeing Blind is definitely the next single, I wouldn't be surprised if the music video and/or radio support comes in the next few weeks over there! It's been on radio here a lot already Thanks for ocmmenting! |

G'day Barb!
Another new number 1! I'm liking "High Hopes" a lot more than "Say Amen (Saturday Night)" on the couple of listens I've given it. I keep forgetting they have new music actually - need to remember to give this new one more listens! "Shotgun" the bridesmaid again though it has already been the bride! Still surprised it's not its 4th week at the top though. It should be hitting my top 10 this week - he's had a few number 1s for me, would be ironic if this didn't make it yet becomes his first UK number 1 But I guess it stands a decent chance. Love a bit of George! "Solo" is growing on me now I'm over the SFX. Also liking the new Maroon 5 actually, the riff is cool, their best since "Sugar" I guess. I loved "Sugar" - great pop record to be honest. Another fan of the Duke Dumont song! I feel like I've done it an injustice with all the love it gets here. I should give it another chance. Tove Lo & co's new one is decent, still haven't enjoyed anything by her to the level I did "Stay High" though - but then I LOVED that. "Talking Body" was obviously decent too though I enjoy the KREAM remix of that a little more Great chart as always! |

High Hopes & Say Amen are already up their with the best of their music so hopefully the album will deliver more bangers *.* Shotgun has had some tough competition lately, plus it's been around a lot longer than say Paradise had by the time it reached it's 4th week on top (Shotgun is currently #7 in my year-to-date chart though, and within arms reach of Top 5). I hope Shotgun can make it to the top in your chart and officially, I'm not sure which is more likely tbh People give Maroon 5 shit but I've never not enjoyed a song from them tbh, V had a string of 10/10 singles/promo singles and Red Pill Blues has been decent too. It Was Always You remains my favourite from V but I played the hell out of Maps & Sugar too. Inhale is such a jam, it took a while to grow on me properly (as seen by how long it took to even go Top 30 here) but now it's a regular sight in my playlist He's still to top Ocean Drive for me though Thanks for commenting! |
