Taylor Swift's 5th studio album "1989" gets its US release on October 27th, but how much will it sell in its first week?

Here's what you need to know:
  • Tracklisting

    1. Welcome To New York
    2. Blank Space
    3. Style
    4. Out Of The Woods
    5. All You Had To Do Was Stay
    6. Shake It Off
    7. I Wish You Would
    8. Bad Blood
    9. Wildest Dreams
    10. How You Get The Girl
    11. This Love
    12. I Know Places
    13. Clean
    14. Wonderland - (target deluxe)
    15. You R in Love - (target deluxe)
    16. New Romantics - (target deluxe)
    17. I Know Places (Voice memo) - (target deluxe)
    18. I Wish You Would (Voice memo) - (target deluxe)
    19. Blank Space (Voice memo) - (target deluxe)

  • The album is preceeded by 3 singles: "Shake It Off" debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 with sales of 544,000, the largest sum (so far) in 2014, "Out Of The Woods" debuted at #18 on sales of 195,292 (lower than expected due to iTunes no longer reporting instant grat sales), and "Welcome To New York", which started at #1 on iTunes.
  • Her self-titled debut album "Taylor Swift" started at #19 on the Billboard 200 in November 2006 with sales of 39,062. It peaked at #5 and has sold 5.5 million to date.
  • Her first EP "Sounds of the Season: The Taylor Swift Holiday Collection" peaked at #20 and has sold just over 1 million.
  • Her 2nd studio album "Fearless" debuted at #1 on sales of 592,304 in November 2008. So far the album has sold 6,859,962 (as of billboard chart date Nov 15th, 2014).
  • "Speak Now", also debuted at #1 in November 2010 with sales of 1,046,718 and has sold 4,433,000 to date (as of billboard chart date Nov 1st, 2014).
  • Her 4th studio album "Red" continued the pattern of debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 1,208,290 in its first week and has so far sold 4,079,740(as of billboard chart date Nov 15th, 2014).
So, how much will "1989" sell in its first week in the US?

I saw the 750k prediction from a few weeks ago has recently been increased to between 800k and 900k. I'm thinking it will be around 750k which will still be incredible in today's album sales climate.

She's only had 3 promo singles whereas 'Red' had five.

And this is a pure pop album, no country.

I'd be very surprised if she didn't scrape a million? unsure.gif I realise the country fanbase isn't really there but still.

I am surprised by how pessimistic predictions are. Red was inches away from beating Britney's record and was pretty pop, so I really can't see her sales cutting almost in half.

I would be surprised if it's any less than 900k and another million opening is very likely I'd have thought. 'Shake It Off' has been absolutely massive.

900k-1 mil. In a perfect world, this would be in between Red's opening sales and Speak now's.

Album sales climate be damned, Swifties don't play around.

750-800k. Knock off bad sales climate and the fact that her old country fanbase has been narrowed down

It felt like there was more buzz for Red than there is for 1989.

I think it's hard to measure. The amount of buzz for both is/was so high that it's really difficult to differentiate. Red may have had more but I've still seen huge interest in basically everything she's done with this album so far.
