Ellie Goulding has covered Don McLean's 1971 single called "Vincent", which will be released tomorrow.

Oh wow, this is beautiful.

Posted by: Bjork 13th February 2018, 10:15 PM

wow, unexpected!!! oh my that's probably my favourite 70s song
I was even ttrying to learn how to play it on guitar the other day

Posted by: Midge 14th February 2018, 12:46 AM

I literally learned the original of this song existed about 2 days ago as I was looking through 1970s number 1s and it caught my eye. Though if I actually listened to it maybe I'd recognise it.

listening out, it's on spotify

Posted by: Bjork 14th February 2018, 08:09 AM

cute enough but nothing wow
guess it's just out as a reminder that she's still around and a proper single is coming soon

Posted by: lewistgreen 14th February 2018, 08:57 AM

Yeah this is quite decent

Posted by: Midge 14th February 2018, 10:30 AM

I stuck it on (the Ellie version) and recognised the song from before the first line finished, haha! I wonder how many pre-80s songs I really do know without knowing the titles/artists...

Nice cover. I hope she goes back to what is real to her with her new material. "On My Mind" was beyond crap, and just didn't feel like she was being true to herself.

No. Haven't heard this and don't want to tbh. The original is lovely and I am sure can't be bettered.

Posted by: cqmerqn 14th February 2018, 12:04 PM

Well you won’t know until you listen

Posted by: Hadji 14th February 2018, 01:23 PM

Please perform this at the BRITs Ellie

This is a nice little cover tbh nothing amazing in terms of her standards but I think it is a nice little treat for the fans wub.gif

It's a nice cover but I'm glad it's lead me to the original! Really nice folk song and it's such an interesting topic to write a song about - can't imagine anyone singing about a painter or sympathising with someone of the past in a 2018 release.

At least it's an inspired choice of song to cover by Ellie - no shade towards her at all as she does sing it very nicely.

Can she not stick to using her horrible mousey voice to "sing" her own shitty songs rather than murdering other people's songs?

Posted by: cqmerqn 14th February 2018, 07:25 PM

You do realise that you don’t have to listen to it, right??

Posted by: Regina 14th February 2018, 07:26 PM

I do, you realise I can voice my opinion if I want right? And you don't have to read it.

Don regarding this on Twitter

Hello @elliegoulding... Vincent is not an easy song to sing and you sing it very beautifully. Please know that I am deeply touched by your remarks about me and my song...it helps me carry on. Best wishes - Don McLean

What a pointless comment

This is fine. Which makes it better than 97 percent of delirium

Posted by: Jüpiter 15th February 2018, 01:59 AM

Uh this is alright but it's just about the opposite of what I like Ellie Goulding doing. It's a real shame (to me) most of her biggest hits are the most MOR songs she's done. I'm aware that that's probably a minority opinion tho.

This^^

I went into this thinking maybe her voice has become a bit more tolerable in the time she’s had off, but this sounds like she recorded it in 2012 and is just dreary to listen to. No offence to the original artist because the lyrics are really sweet, it’s just Ellie ruins them.

This is now one of my favourite covers <3 beautiful

I've stopped listening to Ellie Goulding since she messed up with Ed Sheeran (that's why he wrote the song Don't). But this is quite a good song, worth a listen!

Posted by: cqmerqn 16th February 2018, 12:36 PM

Omg as if. The Ellie rumours are not true, Ed is milking it.

Posted by: Midge 16th February 2018, 12:56 PM

Why do people care so much about celebrity relationships... lol

I also doubt they had one personally. But what does my opinion matter? Who cares?

I mean Ed confirmed himself that Don't was about Ellie & Niall Horan getting frisky behind Ed's back I'm pretty sure. Not that that changes my opinion of any of their music though, Ellie has made some decent stuff in the past - this just isn't one of them for me tongue.gif

Posted by: SGrey 16th February 2018, 07:51 PM

I'm glad Ellie has stated this is just a one off and that her album isn't finished which with any hope should stop the "EG4 IS COMING" posts because they're getting tiring across here and Twitter laugh.gif
