Something Big Average score: 8.50 Highest score: JosephStyles (10.0) Lowest score: Calum (7.5) Finishing in fourth place, we have Something Big - the second single to be released from Handwritten. It's done well to finish in the top four alongside the likes of Stitches and Life of the Party, but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Quite rightly, too, I think. It still remains such a bop and the video is amazing. It's an amazing feel-good song, and breaks away from the cliche of a typical love or heartbreak song that we're now used to on the likes of Treat You Better, Mercy, There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back, Señorita etc. Although Shawn can break away from that whenever as we've seen with the likes of In My Blood too; exploring issues outside the realms of love and delving deeper into human emotion. In my opinion, this hasn't aged as well as some of his other big hits, but it's still a really pleasant listen when going back to it, listening to Handwritten, or having one big Shawn sesh! |

A Little Too Much Average score: 8.67 Highest score: JosephStyles, Calum (10.0) Lowest score: ...ready for it (6.0) Even at the bitter end of the results, we don't have an outright third, second and first - instead we have a tie for second place lmao! The first song to finish in the silver position is A Little Too Much - the first instant grat from Handwritten, released on 2 February 2015, the same day that the pre-order for the album was put up on iTunes! This wasn't the first song we'd heard from Shawn that many found themselves relating to with regards to mental health. Before that we had the likes of The Weight from The Shawn Mendes EP, but this was the first song to take off in a big way. It's remained a firm fan favourite from his debut album, and it's not difficult to see why. It's such a beautiful song, and its lyrics are so relatable and powerful. It paved the way for songs of its ilk in the future too. Very deserving of finishing in the top two/three (however you want to look at it!). Now, it's a battle between STITCHES and LIFE OF THE PARTY. Which will win? |

Life of the Party Average score: 8.67 Highest score: JosephStyles, Calum (9.0) Lowest score: ...ready for it (8.0) Just missing out on the top spot, and in the silver medal position is Life of the Party, the first single to be released from Handwritten. Having been around for a bit before the Handwritten days (well before, with The Shawn Mendes EP), Life of the Party has cemented itself in the hearts of Shawn fans as a favourite - and to this day Shawn still performs it on tour, and it's such a beautiful, up-close and personal moment where he heads over to the b-stage to get closer to the fans and share the moment with them. The message and the lyrics are pretty inspiring, encouraging everyone not to be ordinary and that they are the life of the party no matter what. It really is a great song and was such a good way to introduce everybody to who exactly Shawn is... inspiring his fans with every song he puts out there, with empowering lyrics galore! What's not to love about it? |

Stitches Average score: 9.00 Highest score: JosephStyles (11.0) Lowest score: ...ready for it (6.0) :wow: every1 is so shocked right now !!!1!! I don't think there was ever any doubt about it considering only three people submitted a rate (unless ...ready for it threw us a curveball with some of those scores x), but Stitches has WON the Handwritten rate - and the first on the Shawn Mendes forum on Buzzjack! The biggest single to come from Shawn's first era, and undoubtedly one that propelled him to where he is now, it latched on to the general public and since then it's gone on to become that song that you don't hear anybody NOT singing at his concerts. Instantly recognisable and undeniably such a brilliant slice of pop music. As well as the song, the accompanying music video is something else. Showing Shawn making his way through a parking lot and being battered and bruised by an invisible force (metaphorically being a lover), it's a really good watch and matches the song perfectly! Congratulations Stitches! Not my personal favourite from the album but absolutely cannot deny that it deserved to win and it's one of his absolute best singles!! |
