I think this is such a massive improvement on the original. The production is so good and I think Madonna and Dua sound fab together. I can take or leave (preferably leave) Missy but she’s on it so little it’s fine. The original just sounds so “empty” now. Interesting you prefer the remix so much more! I think love them both equally although I've definitely been returning to this one more recently. Madonna sounds great, both as herself and with Dua, and I really enjoy the new production (people often call it 'bland' in comparison to the original production but I've always thought the selling point of the original was the delivery of the lyrics and its melody, which is still present in this remix). If they are are pushing the single in September why release the remix in August ? The remix is just to promote the remix album, I think its the original 'Levitating' that's receiving a full push soon. |

The remix has just climbed to #1 on Italian radio! It's re-entered their official chart too at #76, beating the previous peak of #99.

This has been listed by Slant Magazine as one of the best songs of 2020:
QUOTE 27. Dua Lipa featuring Madonna and Missy Elliott, “Levitating (The Blessed Madonna Remix)” The Blessed Madonna remix of Dua Lipa’s “Levitating,” completely transformed from a midtempo pop-funk earworm into a sleek electro-disco gem worthy of Moroder or Cerrone, finds the singer trading verses with Madame X and fellow genre-bender Missy Elliott, whose early-aughts brand of hip-hop famously blurred the lines between rap, R&B, and dance. Aside from some of her usual vocal tics, including a very Jody Watley-esque “Yeah, yeah, yeah,” Madonna’s voice is nearly as unrecognizable as the song itself, vibing effortlessly atop a crisp backdrop of handclaps and skittering bass, while Missy flaunts her versatility by half-singing and half-rapping an expectedly #NSFW verse. Camp Thrilled to see this get some recognition! The original production is obviously fantastic and I'd love to have had Madonna and Missy appear on that, but this remix works so good in its own right too. It was my 5th most listened to song of the year according to Spotify Wrapped!! |
