Your link isn't working but if it's 'Dance the way I feel' then it's one of my favourite songs ever.
I'd never have classed them as a 'dance' group though. I'd have classes then as indie. (Electro-indie pop to be more specific) |

Not sure if this is the right forum for Ou Est Le Swimming Pool...Dance the Way I Feel certainly is more indie or alternative....
Only heard DTWIF, fantastic song that I remember from the time. Btw the video you posted isn't working. |

Is it indie? I've always thought they were dance on the basis they're nearly totally reliant on electronic and synth sounds for their songs, definitely comes across as more dance than indie to me!
(I sense a totally different turn for this thread from here ) |

(I sense a totally different turn for this thread from here ) Loads of pop and indie rely on synths, look at bands like Duran Duran and Pet Shop boys for example. It's dancey, but I wouldn't catagorise it as dance. |

But from indie you'd expect more instrument orientated music, surely? Ou Est are primarily ELECTRONIC so does that not mean they fall under the EDM/Dance spectrum? |

They're best described as Indie electronic.
Wikipedia: Indie electronic is a subgenre of alternative/indie rock with affinity for electronic music, using samplers, synthesizers, drum machines, and computer programs, emerging during the early 1990s.[36] Less a style and more a categorization, it describes rock-rooted artists who followed the approach of early electronic music (composers of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop), krautrock and synthpop.[36] Progenitors of the genre were English bands Disco Inferno and Stereolab.[36] Most musicians in the genre can be found on independent labels like Warp, Morr Music, Sub Pop or Ghostly International.[36] Moving to indie forum. |

OELSP had so much potential, 'Dance The Way I Feel' was obviously their masterpiece (shame it didn't become a hit) but their other singles during their brief existence were also really good.

Love both of those They've got a pretty flawless discography on the whole tbh, I'd strongly recommend to anyone that likes Dance The Way I Feel in BJSC to check out the The Golden Year album, so flawless

I would say that Ou Est Le Swimming Pool were 80s style synthpop too, whether to class synthpop as electronic dance music can be hard to know. Eg. Yazoo's Don't Go I would say would be early EDM but some may disagree. But the Ou Est Le Swimming Pool synthpop is more indie than dance like Simple Minds' Don't You Forget About Me. Indie electronica is very popular today, more so than indie rock I would say, certainly in the singles charts judging by the success of Christine and The Queens and The xx in the charts recently. Chvrches also is indie electronica and I would say Mθ's Final Song might be classed as indie electronica (albeit influenced by future bass too for the drop) |

It's sad this has to be the occasion to remember these good songs.

J'adore both 'Dance The Way I Feel' and 'Jackson's Last Stand'. Also love the Armand Van Helden remix of the former.
I need to familiarise myself with more of their material. |
