Posted by: sammy01 Mar 13 2019, 12:18 PM

Ok come on then let's have a guess where My happy place will chart in the UK, I'll update this post.

Sammy01 - #4.
Spice boy - #8
Mr.X - #8
Vibe - #5
Spice girls net - #9
Pippa - #4
Jay - #7
Tommie - #3
Maz! - #10
Adancing - #9
Tawdry Hepburn - #5

Posted by: Spiceboy Mar 13 2019, 01:25 PM

I'm thinking #8 (watch it be like #48 now laugh.gif )

Posted by: Mr.X Mar 13 2019, 01:27 PM

I will predict she will get to #8, but I am honestly expecting something like #12/14

I would LOVE IT if she was #4, but I think it is quite a lot to expect that high...

Posted by: sammy01 Mar 13 2019, 01:36 PM

Well she is doing well on pre-orders so I'm being hopeful.

Posted by: vibe Mar 13 2019, 02:27 PM

5

Posted by: Spice Girls Net Mar 13 2019, 02:31 PM

I hope it makes the Top 10. I’ll say a debut of #9 and hopefully it will climb 😊

Posted by: pippa Mar 13 2019, 02:45 PM

I will predict a Number 4 debut.

Top 10

More specific?

Posted by: Jay ☆ Mar 13 2019, 06:33 PM

I feel too pessimistic to predict Top 5! cry.gif I'll predict #7, matching Free Me's peak.

I'd love to be surprised and see it enter the Top 5 though - imagine it becoming the first solo Spice Top 5 album since 16 years ago. ohmy.gif

Average sales needed for Top 10 positions in 2019 (11th Jan - 8th March; I'm not including 4th January because those sales were relatively higher than normal weeks, due to the holidays) -

#1: 31,085 [Highest: 65,214 | Lowest: 18,199]
#2: 16,141 [H: 20,702 | L: 10,560]
#3: 11,423 [H: 17,057 | L: 8,264]
#4: 9,968 [H: 14,370 | L: 6,634]
#5: 8,916 [H: 12,782 | L: 6,409]
#6: 8,095 [H: 12,415 | L: 6,226]
#7: 7,223 [H: 10,889 | L: 5,704]
#8: 6,448 [H: 8,391 | L: 5,528]
#9: 5,785 [H: 6,615 | L: 5,279]
#10: 5,411 [H: 6,003 | L: 5,008]

Hopefully 12th April isn't a particularly competitive/strong selling week, but Emma definitely has to sell in the 5,000 area to have a chance of Top 10, and sell 6,000+ to make it comfortably.

I'd be disappointed with it charting 11-15. I've just used the past 4 weeks for these average sales:

#11: 4,909
#12: 4,813
#13: 4,557
#14: 4,390
#15: 4,161

Let's bear in mind that Melanie C - Version of Me managed to sell 4,084 as an independent release in Q4 2017. Emma's with a major and releasing in Q2... I'd be amazed if she only sold 4,000-ish.

It's funny to think Life in Mono sold 12,307 to only enter/peak at #65! If she could manage those sales with My Happy Place she'd have a strong chance of going Top 3 drama.gif

Posted by: sammy01 Mar 13 2019, 06:47 PM

I would be amazing if she could make top 3 would be the first ever soli spice album to do so I believe?

I'd be stunned if she missed the top 10.

Updated opening post, no one gone for top 3 or outside the top 10. Numbers 6 and 10 not predicted either watch it be one of those Haha.

#10

Posted by: adancing Mar 15 2019, 11:41 AM

I hope she gets a top 10 like nbr 9, much like Claire Richard album, I think they are in the same category, age rage, pop group solo...

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Mar 15 2019, 01:29 PM

Either #5 or #6.

*edit - (I'll be optimistic and go with #5!)

That album didn’t rank then as much as I thought !

Updated, still no one gone for not making the top 10 or number 6.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 10 2019, 02:56 PM

Thinking she may have a chance of Top 5 now, the preorders have been pretty strong.

Maybe #4 behind BTS, The Chemical Brothers and Billie Eilish? 🧐

I really wish a solo Spice album could go Top 3!

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 10 2019, 03:15 PM

Yeah I'm pretty hopeful of top 5, sales this week after look like the have slowed after Mother's day for other albums.

Posted by: vibe Apr 11 2019, 01:19 PM

The number 5 album this week sold 7K.

Can Emma do this ?

Yes, Melanie C sold a bit under 4.1k of Version of Me in the first and she didn't have a ton of special editions or a big label backing her. I think she should hopefully clear 7-8k.

Posted by: vibe Apr 11 2019, 02:05 PM

A lot of the sales won’t be shipped to UK address remember.

Yes, but the same goes for Melanie's Version of Me, which was fueled by first-week sales and very little public interest.

Sales from bundles, buys from casual fans buying only one copy + hopefully some interest from the general public should hopefully boost it ayeee pirate.gif

Posted by: vibe Apr 11 2019, 06:41 PM

Not sure this will have grabbed the general public’s interest. We shall see.

Number 8

Posted by: Mr.X Apr 14 2019, 08:11 PM

Totally hope it is Top10. Apparently BMG are expecting it to be Top5 which would be great. They are indeed putting a lot of effort into this album, which is great and should provide some results, hopefully.

Knowing the history of the solo spices though, I would say a #10 is more likely than a Top5 x

Posted by: SouthernStar88 Apr 14 2019, 08:14 PM

I think 9...
I hope for top 5 obviously...

It feels surreal thinking we could be on the verge of either the first top 10 since Free Me in 2004 or even the first top 5 since Reason in 2003!!

Posted by: vibe Apr 15 2019, 12:48 AM

It will def go top 10.

Posted by: Voodoo Apr 15 2019, 06:36 AM

Taking everything into account, anything lower than Top 5 will be a disappointment.

Posted by: ___∆___ Apr 15 2019, 11:25 AM

Will definitely go Top 10 - the amount of UK fans that have bought bundles (I’ve ended up with Deluxe CD, Blue Cassette, Pink cassette, Amazon Signed CD & Signed Vinyl).

Posted by: ___∆___ Apr 15 2019, 04:48 PM

I’m slightly disappointed it’s ‘only’ #5 in the mids although I have absolutely no right to be as it’s an epic result - especially as it’s her first album for 13 years and that peaked at #65. I guess I just hoped the Amazon signed version and bundles would have pushed it higher.

Posted by: vibe Apr 15 2019, 04:51 PM

We all should be pleased with number 5

My guess is correct so far but I’m sure it well drop a few places .

Posted by: tommie Apr 15 2019, 04:59 PM

flop - can't even get to number one when her competition is some z-list k-flop group. not even Melanie c would sign her for Red Girl now. sad.gif

Posted by: schizo_spice Apr 15 2019, 05:00 PM

That's an achievement for a solo Spice Girl in 2019 just think how well a group album would do.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 15 2019, 05:01 PM

If she stays top 10 I will be chuffed!

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 15 2019, 05:06 PM

She has picked such a tough week to release, 4 of the top 5 are new entries. Will be interesting to hopefully see the sales as there might be a fair gap between 5 and 6. Also she is outselling the new entry at number 4 on itunes who I honestly have never heard of, so they might be even more front loaded and fall behind Emma as the week goes on.

12.3k would have got her number 2 last week watch her sell 12.5k and end up number 5 this

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 15 2019, 05:17 PM

As long as it stays top 10 it will be a success any way and a big success fir a solo Spice release.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 15 2019, 05:24 PM

#4 has 1000 copies lead over her current sales of 4,200 so can’t see a climb of any kind, would be interesting to know how many copies from #6

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 15 2019, 05:31 PM

One thing not going for it is the price, it is £11 in Sainsburys! 11 quid for a 10 track CD, it should be 8.99.

Posted by: tommie Apr 15 2019, 05:41 PM

I guess it'll be interesting to see how it holds up saleswise in the next few days, but I'm assuming 6-7k as a end result.

Posted by: vibe Apr 15 2019, 05:42 PM

Was expecting slightly higher sales than 4227 with all the bundles. By the end of this week she will prob have around 6500 sales ? As we expected this is going to be extremely front loaded. I fear for the second week sales / position.

Posted by: vibe Apr 15 2019, 05:55 PM

Apparently number #7 is on 4043 sales.

Posted by: Mr.X Apr 15 2019, 06:02 PM

We still have an interview on This Morning (tomorrow) and a video for the new single being released!

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 15 2019, 06:43 PM

Posted by: pippa Apr 15 2019, 06:44 PM

Number 5 in the midweek chart released today with sales of 4,227.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 15 2019, 07:27 PM

Ouch the gap between 5-7 is so small!!! I might order another version now to support her.

Posted by: pippa Apr 15 2019, 07:43 PM

I feel she will hold a Top 10 position but just about.

Posted by: Lukuzz Apr 15 2019, 07:53 PM

I have a feeling it'll end up just outside the top 10, fingers crossed it holds on for her though

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 15 2019, 09:07 PM

I think she should be OK to hold onto the top 10,would love to know where it went in at on Friday /Saturday and whether she has slipped down far already? Having said that Melanie C did drop from #11 midweek to #25 so who knows, she could end up at #19 or something huh.gif

Either way whether she gets top 5, top 10 or top 20 it will be the first solo Spice album to do so since 2004 which is a cause for celebration in itself.

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 15 2019, 09:33 PM

I think BMG will make sure it ends top 10, they can discount on iTunes etc if needs be.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 15 2019, 09:36 PM

Ps I want to know how Claire Richards get's a performance on Graham Norton and Emma didn't get to perform on Jonathan Ross??

Posted by: schizo_spice Apr 15 2019, 10:04 PM

I wonder if Martine McCutcheon is still with BMG? She got to number 17 two years ago with her album on their label and also got Radio 2 support.

I'm not sure if she is, but I'm only basing this on the fact that she doesn't have an artist store any more!

I feel a bit concerned that Emma could end up dipping out of the Top 10 by Friday! sad.gif

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever Apr 16 2019, 01:06 AM

It's hard to know if she will stay top 10 as I thought her sales would be higher and her existing sales will be front loaded, I hope she can stay top 10 though and as mentioned it's the highest charting spice girl solo album in almost 15 years.

Posted by: Michael Andrew Apr 16 2019, 08:44 AM

If she charts higher than 'Version of Me' at #25, I'll be over the moon.

I'd expect all the spices to have a very similar fanbase. So I find the mid-week very encouraging!

Sales climate was so different then.

The bundle craze wasn’t around then either.

She has dropped to number 7 today in the midweeks.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 16 2019, 12:00 PM

Uh oh! I was hoping she would be able to hold onto #5 for a bit longer or only slip one place if so!

Posted by: schizo_spice Apr 16 2019, 12:22 PM

She will still be top 20 which is a huge improvement on her last position of Top 70.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 16 2019, 12:59 PM

Yeah but in terms of her keeping her contract I'm guessing a top 10 is needed...

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 16 2019, 02:01 PM

When she was midweek #5 yesterday, she was 987 copies behind #4 - Fontaines DC

Today at midweek #7 with 5,335 copies sold, she's:

342 copies behind #4 - Tom Walker
331 copies behind #5 - Fontaines DC
284 copies behind #6 - The Greatest Showman
64 copies ahead of #8 - Marty Wilde
850 copies ahead of #9 - Queen
1539 copies ahead of #10 - George Ezra
1991 copies ahead of #11 - Khalid

It's evidently very tight at the moment in the 4-8 region. I expect Tom Walker & The Greatest Showman to stay ahead of her, it's looking like Marty Wilde will overtake later in the week and I assume Queen will as well. However, signs point to Emma being able to outdo Fontaines DC by Friday... fingers crossed. Not sure about George Ezra & Khalid.

Hopefully she'll be able to retain a Top 10 position. I think she'd need to get to 6,500 sales for the week to comfortably achieve it.

Posted by: tommie Apr 16 2019, 02:28 PM

I think it'd be hard for her to slip all the way to #11 to be honest, especially since the weekend sales have already been accounted for. Usually there would a surge in album sales around Friday/Saturday, which is when frontloaded albums tended to really slip behind. She had This Morning today, so that should've helped.

Posted by: Mr.X Apr 16 2019, 02:50 PM

Shame she is already slipping. Here's hoping that the video will come out asap to hopefully put a bit more momentum over the next couple of days. Weds and Thurs will be really crucial for her.

A shame she thought to release so close to the start of rehearsals, as it really deminishes her chances of further promo. Oh well... TBH I am a bit over the alvbum already. I bought every available format once, to support her. But the album is not a great album, nor very well thought out either, so whatever...

I feel she could have really done better with a better album. If she had really put effort into it and made an album of good quality originals, the public and press could have gotten more behind it. The focus on covers killed the album, I think, before it even had the chance to breathe.

She got good press. She just needs a better album.

Posted by: vibe Apr 16 2019, 02:59 PM

Tbf she did a good amount of promo. We can’t deny that.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 16 2019, 03:04 PM

Her promo has been really good tbh I mean Jonathan Ross is a huge gig you can't get much bigger than that... Well a performance slot would have been good (or Graham Norton lol).

After reading that I think she should manage to hold onto the top 10, #8 is looking likely (which I believe was my prediction whoop whoop!)

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 16 2019, 03:05 PM

Now that top 5 is looking unlike I'm rooting for #8 laugh.gif

Posted by: Mr.X Apr 16 2019, 03:08 PM

She did do great promo! A few more TV performances would have been great, but whatever. I still think with a better album, she would have made better numbers/more interest in her work.

Let's hope for a #8 at the least wub.gif Regardless of everything, it is still bound to be quite a great achievement for her. Lets just hope it doesnt sink in for ever after this week (which will probably do lol)

The 12000 people that bought LIM have moved on I guess.

That's the big mistake on Emma's part, she should have done a signing. I didn't buy a signed copy but I would have gone to a signing and bought one there, as would many fans who already bought the signed version hence more sales for her. I'm guessing she can't fit that in due to rehearsals starting... The album should probably have been released last week.

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 16 2019, 08:21 PM

I feel like she could have got top 5 but will be ultimately number 8. What has let it down is a bit of greediness tbh. The Vinyl is too expensive and should be stocked in HMV and on Amazon but by not stocking it anywhere else people are held to randsome paying over the odds for it. The CDs are too expensive too, a cardboard digipack 10 track album should be 8.99 and the deluxe 11.99.

Given she is less than 350 behind number 4 these couple of things might have made the difference. Still she will be comfortably top 10.

I'm not sure 1.5k+ difference is that close this time of the year to be honest.

Emma sold ~1.1k yesterday, so despite being overtaken by two albums it's not a complete fall off a cliff saleswise either.

ETA: Claire Richards sold 4.9k through Friday-Sunday in her first midweeks and she ended up with 6.1k sales. Emma basically cleared on Monday what Claire ended up doing from Monday-Thursday, so hopefully this indicates a slightly more public interest in Emma's release.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 16 2019, 08:55 PM

Definitely agree that the vinyl is very overpriced. Once you factor in the postage, it costs £30. A 10-track album on one vinyl disc shouldn't exceeded £20! I'm sure there's many fans who wouldn't have felt able to justify buying it. It's certainly a shame it wasn't available in HMV & Amazon.

I think another mistake was a Deluxe CD that is the same 10 tracks. Most people wouldn't feel compelled to buy a more expensive version of the same album just because it has different packaging!

Like Sammy says, cheaper prices really could have made all the difference considering how close it is at this stage in the mids. I kind of wish BMG would consider temporarily slashing the prices prior to Friday so she can pick up some more casual sales.

Also agree that it's a shame a record signing wasn't organised.

It was badly timed for her album to coincide with Spice Girls rehearsals starting. sad.gif

The Monday mids had Amazon data from Sunday missing, so it seems that the 1.1k is a combination of sales that were added belatedly, as well as whatever it sold on Monday. I assume the sales achieved tomorrow will be far less, maybe below 500?

The Monday mids had Amazon data from Sunday missing, so it seems that the 1.1k is a combination of sales that were added belatedly, as well as whatever it sold on Monday. I assume the sales achieved tomorrow will be far less, maybe below 500?

Well, that's unfortunate, but it makes sense as 1.1k seemed abnormally high considering the frontloaded nature of these type of releases.

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 16 2019, 10:23 PM

It's not going to lose a 2k gap on #11. If anything it has had a very strong sales day today, her This morning and BBC London news interviews have seen the album rise back up to #12 on iTunes and #28 and #39 on Amazon for the signed and unsigned versions.

I just cant see it slipping below number 8, as it will surely pass Fontaines.

I agree about them being a bit greedy I was very very very tempted with the vinyl however I will not pay £30 for it. I'm past the stage of my life where I am prepared to spend loads of money on the girls anymore I have a mortgage, new house, decorating, holidays, car etc etc etc to think about which take priority. So she lost out on a sale there from me. Would also have been tempted with the cassettes had I got the vinyl, so actually 3 sales missed out on.

The lack of live performance in the shows where she is invited this week doesn't help. There was just a live performance on TV last month

I'm the same, I love vinyl collect them but I'm not spending 30 quid on a 1 disc vinyl.

Also I'm sure Kylie's cassettes were £5, they really have tried to penny pinch those extra pounds wherever they can.

The vinyl is pink and come with an amazing booklet , this is why it was a bit more pricey !

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 17 2019, 01:40 PM

There isn’t a booklet in this vinyl. Unless you’re referring to the vinyl being a gatefold, or the sleeve containing the vinyl having pictures/text printed on it? Both of these features are pretty standard for vinyl releases these days, I wouldn’t say this justifies the price.

! I'm glad to have contributed to that x

To those who bought a signed vinyl which didn't end up being numbered like originally stated - her store emailed customers with this today:

QUOTE
Dear Customer,

Thank for your purchase of the Emma Bunton Limited Edition Pink Gatefold Vinyl.

It has come to our attention that the vinyl was not numbered on the sleeve as advised. Firstly, we sincerely apologise for this error.

Secondly, in order to rectify this, you will be sent a sticker for your vinyl, indicating that this is one of just 1000 limited editions made. We will be sending these to you very soon.

We again deeply apologise for the inconvenience caused.

Kindest Regards,
TMStores

! I suppose they must have received quite a few complaints. I'm not sure whether I'd want to stick it on the vinyl though rotf.gif It wouldn't feel very "official". I think I'll probably just keep the sticker unpeeled and keep it safe somewhere x

Cause it's a rule here on buzzjack to not post chart positions till the the chart show or until the OCC post an article on the album chart which is usually during th chart show.

TBH she chose a tough week to release. Not only it coincided with Spice Girls rehearsals (thus making it hard for her to do more live promo other than interviews) but also on a week against some really heavy sellers - Beyonce, Chemical Brothers, etc. A week earlier and she would have done better..

I honestly doubt it'll have more weeks on the charts to be honest, as it obviously didn't stabilise in sales through Monday-Thursday and was very frontloaded. This really looks like an #11-OUT affair.

#7 on the Scottish album chart

3rd Top album in Scotland and highest charting album since 2001!

Posted by: ThePensmith Apr 19 2019, 08:27 PM

As I said a week ago, the chart position is almost irrelevant here. Anyone who was expecting a huge great splash is living in 2001 still. I'm just grateful we've even got an album - and a very classily orchestrated and put together one at that - when five years ago it seemed unlikely Emma would ever dip her toes back into even just a one off single on her tod.

The fact it's made the top 20 is the icing on the cake to what's been quite a lovely week and a bit all told. Hopefully it'll give her the encouragement to do a tour of the UK's town halls and theatres off the back of it because if she did a 'An Evening With' show like the tour Martine McCutcheon did a few years ago for her comeback album - where it was music and an audience Q&A - I can see that selling well because there's more of an incentive for casual Spice Girl fans as it were.

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 19 2019, 08:44 PM

On one hand a solo Spice top 15 album in 2019 is to be celebrated, not many artist manage that 23 years into their career.

However Emma has major label backing and top 10 was easily in reach with a few details that could have been rectified. Although top 15 for a solo Spice is great I'm sure BMG don't give a toss about that and would have loved a top 10 (probably a top 5) so the album was seen as successful to the wider public not just Spice fans. What BMG will see as acceptable to keep her on and release another album is anyone's guess, I'm assuming the WW sales were better than a lot of BMG artist like Gabrielle though so maybe that will be her saving grace.

Next weeks drop could be painful though, if she stays top 100 it will be a small victory tbh.

I'm guessing her worldwide sales were at least 60% of her overall sales as Jay pointed out to me that 402 of the vinyl copies were sold in England while 1050 signed 'limited' editions were sold out. On that working out a vast majority of her records sales must have gone abroad. Hopefully they will allow her to record another album on the back of that. Is Gabrielle still signed to them?

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 19 2019, 10:16 PM

Double post sorry!

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 19 2019, 10:31 PM

Emma sold 6,674 copies, just 457 sales behind #10. sad.gif

Truthfully I am disappointed that it missed out, I mean it was Top 10 throughout the midweeks so that was quite a tease. sad.gif Unfortunately it was looking inevitable towards the end of the week that it would fall out though. #11 is just the most frustrating position. It's difficult for a front-loaded physical seller like Emma to compete with consistently heavy streamers like Khalid. Fontaines D.C. had an edge with strong vinyl sales too.

I'm trying to keep it in mind that this is by a distance the highest charting solo Spice album in 15 years, first Top 20 since Emma herself with Free Me in 2004. So that in itself is worth celebrating. Hopefully BMG consider it a good enough result, as mentioned perhaps it'll be the overall sales achieved worldwide that's the important factor.

I really don't think the situation will be as dire as Emma falling out of the Top 200 directly from #11. That would mean her falling to under 750-ish sales in week 2. She managed 600-ish sales on Thursday alone!

Maybe I'll jinx her by saying this, but I can at least see her selling more than 1k next week. She'll need to sell approaching 1.2k to remain Top 100. That's an average of 171 copies a day.

So...obviously streams lost her a top 10 position.

Not bad at all though! I bet many of the 90's popstresses would love a no.11 album in 2019! It's an incredible achievement for her: i don't Mel B or Victoria Beckham could even get a Top 40 album position, Geri hasn't had the guts to release anything else after the disappointing failure of Passion. Mel C has released albums...but the best she's managed is top 20-30. So, for Emma to have the best charting Spice solo record in over a decade is amazing!

I don't think it would have hurt at all to reduce the price abit on Amazon for this week only OR on her official site. But they obviously want to make a profit on this project, not just try and get a Top 10 position. I don't expect the album to even chart nexgt week, this has all been due to bundles and Spice Girls fans support.

Im not sure what BMG could realistically do? Week 1 they gave us various formats, bundles and signed items along with TV and radio promo and TV adverts. I doubt even throwing £££ begins it for week 2 wouldn’t halt an epic chart drop - most fans seemed to buy the CD/Cassette bundles and signed Amazon CD so contributed 4 sales, those bundles will be getting minimal if any sales week 2.

I think lowering the price of a few things on her store might help. I utterly refuse to pay £30+ for a 1 disc vinyl, I wonder how many more like me feel the same.

I'm sure BMG will hope the Jade duet gets playlisted by radio 2 and with the Spice girls tour too it could sell a few hundred each week through May and June after it falls off the chart.

I'm not sure what the ultimate aim for BMG is but 20k when all is said and done seems realistic.

To be fair I actually do quite like it.

I love:
- Baby please don't stop
- I wish I could have loved you more
- Teardrops
- I only wanna be with you (with Will Young)

I really like
- Emotion

I like as album tracks:
- You're all I need to get by (with Jade Jones)
- Don't call me baby

I tolerate (play it when it comes on but don't actively choose it):
- Come away with me (with Josh Kumra)
- Here comes the sun

I skip:
- 2 become 1 (with Robbie Williams)

So all in all I do think it is a good 7 track album, and the only song I don't like ironically is 2 become 1 laugh.gif It sounds too karaoke.

The Heatseekers Albums chart contains 25 positions that are ranked by Nielsen SoundScan sales data, and charts album titles from "new or developing acts" as determined by the acts' historical chart performance. Once an artist/act has had an album place in the top 100 of the Billboard Top 200, or in the top 10 of any of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, Country Albums, Latin Albums, Christian Albums, or Gospel Albums charts, the album and later works no longer qualify for tracking on Heatseeker Albums. This definition means that some artists can still qualify as "new and developing" for years, even decades; The Tragically Hip have recorded on the Heatseekers Albums catalog 10 times between 1992 and 2016, yet they still qualify as "new and developing" as they have never had an album in Billboard's top 100.

Many artists have bypassed Top Heatseekers altogether by having their initial chart entry debut on the Billboard 200 at position 100 or above.

The Heatseekers Songs chart contains 25 positions, rated by a combination of Nielsen BDS airplay measurements, Nielsen SoundScan sales data, and streaming activity figures from online music sources. Like Heatseekers Albums, this chart tracks titles from "new or developing acts", similarly determined by the acts' historical chart performance. An artist's song is no longer eligible for Heatseekers Songs when the artist has had a song place in the top 50 of the Billboard Hot 100 (or has had a radio song before December 5, 1998).

Apparently it climbed from #88 to #85 in the midweeks! We love a rising hit album.

Posted by: Jay ☆ Apr 25 2019, 09:46 AM

Ooh! Queen of longevity *_*

Haha, honestly I'll be so pleased if she manages a second week in the Top 100, as sad as that may sound. The last solo album that managed to do that is This Time, 57-97 (with hindsight I'm kind of surprised that album didn't drop too drastically, given its low peak).

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 25 2019, 11:03 AM

Another week top 100 would make just missing the top 10 feel slightly better. I wonder how long supermarkets will keep stocking it, I guess as long as it is in supermarkets it might linger between 80 and 200.

Posted by: tommie Apr 25 2019, 11:08 AM

I mean, all fan driven sales are gone now so I'm not surprised if it manages to stay in the top 90 (as sad as that sounds).

Posted by: sammy01 Apr 25 2019, 11:21 AM

Really the best the fans can do is stream it now.

Lewis Capaldi, whose new album is on pre-order and will no doubt be one of the biggest albums of the year his vinyl is 17 quid on his website store. Just shows how over priced Emma's is. I wont buy it until it is under 20 quid.

#24 Sales
#21 Physical

Posted by: sajjadali Apr 26 2019, 07:51 PM

Either way she sold less 1,000 copies week 2.

The physical/sales chart should be a better reflection of it's true chart run...she's never gonna do well in streaming.

I doubt BMG will want to continue with her as overall sales won't top 10k-20k at most. So, a shame but she can always self-release.

Dropped to #121 sad.gif It’s crazy that streaming results in an almost 100 place difference. cry.gif

Frustratingly, this week’s #8 album sold less than Emma sold at #11 last week, ugh. Very bad timing. I think BMG messed up scheduling it in Easter week and Record Store Day week.

Just compare last week’s sales with 2 weeks ago & and this week:

6 Queen [Bohemian Rhapsody - OST] 8,188
7 Mike + The Mechanics 7,591
8 Ariana Grande 6,862
9 Dave 6,541
10 Circa Waves 6,099
11 Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper 6,019
12 Jack Savoretti 5,725
13 Billie Eilish [Don't Smile At Me] 4,831

Last week
6 Queen [Bohemian Rhapsody - OST] 8,556
7 Marty Wilde 7,503
8 George Ezra 7,468
9 Fontaines D.C. 7,197 (3,104 vinyl)
10 Khalid 7,130
11 Emma Bunton 6,674
12 Ariana Grande 6,359
13 M Huncho 6,176
14 Dave 5,591

This week
6 Tom Walker 7,413
7 BTS 7,346
8 Rolling Stones 6,514
9 Ariana Grande 5,505
10 Jade Bird 5,414
11 Beyoncé 5,212
12 Marty Wilde 5,041
13 Khalid 5,020

Annoying. Emma could have sold 1,259 less copies this week & still made the Top 10.

Also: Emma had sold 5,335 by the Tuesday midweeks. She therefore sold more in 4 days (Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon) than Beyoncé sold to be #11 this week - with 7 days of sales. By Tuesday, Emma was just 79 copies short of what Jade Bird sold to be #10 this week.

Ugh. I’ll get over it, but the timing sucks. In most weeks this year she’d have easily been Top 10. cry.gif

Thanks Jay and sammy01 for the stats and info. I think it is such a shame that they released in that week!! Also, remember when we were like 'oh she faces NO COMPETITION' when we saw who also was releasing that same week? LOL to be young and naive teresa.gif

BMG probably had some nice hopes for her to release in the middle of such high competition and sales. A shame how it all turned out really.

And yes that video with Jade needs to come out ASAP but I highly doubt it will do much to the album tbh...

It's cute at first couple of listens, but over the past few days I've started to notice how forced her vocal sounds ( pirate.gif don't hate me but this is the first time I though this from a Bunton track actually...) and the production doesnt really ever go anywhere so unless it would be released with a great remix, I don't think that would be a good idea at all lol

The vocal sounds laid back to me which is the whole feel of the song, it sounds chill as does her vocal.

Honestly, I just want a remix package out of DCMB and then I'm fine. I doubt we'll get it though, considering they didn't even consider it a single option and there's no way they're paying for remixers unless the Jade duet works a miracle.

Posted by: Spiceboy May 15 2019, 07:09 AM

Streaming is terrible isn’t it!! Wonder if the fact she is clearly a better physical seller will help her keep her record deal? There’s got to be more money in physicals than streams?? I mean her sales are still paltry but then again sales are pretty horrendous in general. 100,000 is a very successful album nowerdays from the looks of it!

Even with the added streaming I’m confident that she’ll be safe cool2.gif She’s on 748 copies in today’s mids, 190 copies ahead of #200. #200 sold 746 copies in last Friday’s chart!

My prediction is that she’ll re-enter somewhere in the 160s area of the chart, maybe selling around 840 copies. Think she might be close to 10,000 overall sales after this week.

Emma’s daily sales this week:

Friday’s & Saturday’s sales: 307 copies
Sunday’s sales (Monday midweeks): 95 copies [Total so far: 402 copies]
Monday’s sales (Tuesday midweeks): 165 copies [Total so far: 567 copies]
Tuesday’s sales (Wednesday midweeks): 85 copies [Total so far: 652 copies]
Wednesday’s sales (Thursday midweeks): 96 copies [Total so far: 748 copies]

Posted by: sammy01 May 16 2019, 09:09 PM

The album has responded well to promo, I know she us doing rehearsals and the tour will be on but she really needs to look for 1 or 2 TV slots a week. Surely this close to the tour everyone will be gagging to have her on, BBC Breakfast, Loose Women, This morning, she needs to do the rounds.

Posted by: sajjadali May 17 2019, 05:48 AM

She's reduced the album to £5 on Amazon/Sainsburys hence why it's gone up.

#162 is disappointing when she was as high as 93.

Posted by: Jay ☆ May 19 2019, 02:20 AM

It’s kind of inevitable that Emma will suffer big drops in the final chart, when numerous albums have much stronger streaming than her, and get 2 days worth of streaming added after the Thursday midweek data.

Emma went from 35 streaming sales in the Thursday mids, to 45 streaming sales in the Friday chart, so only 10 sales. Most of the albums around her had hundreds of streaming sales added.

The difference between the #129 album in the Friday chart (which was the position Emma was at in the Thursday midweeks) and Emma at #162, was just 121 sales. The difference between #93 and #162 is 381 sales. It’s barely anything, but results in a 69 place difference. She just can’t keep up when all the streaming is accounted for.

I think she'd need to sell around 1,400 copies to stay Top 75 in week 2. Up to 1,200 copies for Top 100.

I really hope she stays Top 100. It's kind of sad that a second week Top 100 would be quite an achievement in this day and age lol. I miss when albums experienced more graceful falls in the charts (even This Time managed a second week Top 100...), but since streaming became popular it's led to some really harsh falls for albums reliant on pure sales.

Since 2005, the second week positions for solo albums have been...

24-53 - Beautiful Intentions (fell 29 places)
65-75 - Life in Mono (10 places)
57-97 - This Time (40 places)
45-101 - The Sea (56 places)
41-115 - Passion (74 places)
11-121 - My Happy Place (110 places)
25-146 - Version of Me (121 places)

Stages was out of the Top 200 in week 2, meaning it fell over 151 places, and of course L.A. State of Mind didn't even chart in week 1 tearsmile.gif
Mod Edit: Above quote taken from Melanie C's chart topic, I thought it would be better for the Emma chat to continue in her chart topic instead, so I've moved the posts!

It's painful to see actually how successful LIM was and it was just abandoned. 2 singles and it sold 53k, they could have hit gold with 2 more and a small intimate tour. Emma had to go and get up the duff.

Interesting because I agree, but then I think Victoria Beckham was a complete flop which also had 2 singles and sold 53k... funny how we have different judgements for different things.

Kind of? Life in Mono was released at a time when sales were much down, whilst in 2001, album sales were much more healthy, so technically the bigger flop was Victoria's.

But yes, I do think it is a shame that both projects were abandoned as both had incredible potential but were let down by the release strategy...

That's not true, actually. Album sales in the UK in 2006 were still very, very high. Jay can confirm this. wink.gif

Then in the third week it seems she might have managed to shift another 12,000 copies to be #79 (the #75 sold 12,645). Relative to sales nowadays, and relative to most other solo Spice albums, the Life in Mono sales look pretty good. But in the context of 2006 and the strength of the market, it didn't do very well (reflected by the fact it charted at #65).

I went to a dinner party last night . We got talking about the solo girls music. Yet Alexa couldn’t play anything by Emma apart form MHP material.

This is shocking !!

She is a victim of having 4 solo albums released by 3 different labels and the middle two were by 19 who evidently just don't give a toss about those albums being available to stream or buy anymore now

Just found out that Baby Please Don't Stop reached #111 in the Download Singles Top 200 (1st March 2019), then fell out the Top 200 a week later. Not sure if it ever re-entered after that. It wasn't in the chart up to and including 12th April, but I don't have the download charts from 19th April (which is the date My Happy Place entered the chart) up to 14th June to be able to check if it ever re-entered. If it was ever going to re-enter, it would have been on 19th April!

Where did you find the top 200?

Posted by: Jay* Oct 19 2020, 11:15 AM

It was mentioned in ChartsPlus, in the week that it charted!

OCC have just revealed Emma Burton's Top 10 biggest singles: https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/emma-buntons-official-top-10-biggest-songs-in-the-uk__32251/

Posted by: Spice Girls Net Jan 21 2021, 01:09 PM

Nice to see that the OCC has given us updates for WTYSL and What I Am but it would be nice if they actually listed all of the sales, there’s only 10 to post

Posted by: tommie Jan 21 2021, 01:23 PM

I guess What Took You So Long? will be passing 300k this year since it's "sold" 5k since May 2020. Still a long way to Gold though (200k).

What I Am has done around 2k in the same period of time.

Posted by: Jay❄ Jan 21 2021, 01:24 PM

Thanks Liam! biggrin.gif

I wish they had given us more sales than her top 2 too, but it's interesting to have the split in pure and streaming info for WTYSL and WIA:

QUOTE
Emma's only chart-topping single in her own right, What Took You So Long? is her most physically purchased and streamed song, racking up 295,000 combined sales, split between 270,000 paid-for sales and 2.9 million streams.

Prior to What Took You So Long?'s release, Emma dipped her toe into solo territory, featuring on electronic duo Tin Tin Out's What I Am in 1999. Famously released the same day as Geri Halliwell's solo single Lift Me Up, Emma ended up in the runner-up position that week, and What I Am also ranks second in her solo best-sellers. What I Am has notched up chart sales of 234,000, which includes 225,000 CD and download units, and one million streams.

The Top 10 list is still the same order as it was based on the May 2020 sales we got. I wonder if Baby Please Don't Stop has overtaken All I Need to Know yet? They had sold 6,691 and 7,668 respectively by last May.

100k to go gold its 400k gold.

Nice to know WTYSL is ticking over some ok sales now.

Posted by: Mr.X Jan 21 2021, 02:49 PM

WTYSL does ok with streaming actually, for a medium size hit that doesnt get much promo or radio play, or much playlisting. There is clearly some demand for that track at least

Posted by: Spice Girls Net Jan 21 2021, 03:54 PM

Increase in sales (the old figures were posted by the OCC in June 2017

What I Am - 10k (3.5 years)
What Took You So Long - 26k (3.5 years)

What I Am

234,000 (January 2021)

What Took You So Long

269,000 (June 2017)
295,000 (January 2021)
