Why this chart, I don't here you ask? Simple - it was the last Christmas No1 that wasn't a charity song (2004) or from a talent show (2005 onwards).
1: Mad World - Michael Andrews fetauring Gary Jules
2: Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) - The Darkness
3: Changes - Ozzy and Kelly Osbourne
4: Proper Chrimbo! - Bo Selecta!
5: Happy Xmas (War Is Over) - The Idols
Just think: this was meant to be 2003's Christmas No1.
6: Leave Right Now - Will Young
7: Shut Up - Black Eyed Peas
8: Ladies Night - Atomic Kitten
It's hard to tell which cover was more ill-advised: this or No11.
9: I'm Your Man - Shane Richie
10: Too Lost In You - Sugababes
11: Signed Sealed Delievered (I'm Yours) - Blue featuring Stevie Wonder and Angie Stone
12: Feelin' Fine - Ultrabeat
13: Santa's List - Cliff Richard
14: Mandy - Westlife
15: Have A Cheeky Christmas - Cheeky Girls
16: Hey Ya! - Outkast
17: The Closest Thing To Crazy - Katie Melua
18: My Immortal - Evanescence
19: Swing Low - UB40
20: Jump - Girls Aloud
What a fantastic chart!

The Darkness were at #1 all week and lost out on Saturday sales - one of the closest battles for Christmas #1 in recent times (the other being in 1998 when the Spice Girls beat Chef by 7,000 copies, 380,000 to 373,000 copies sold).
and Chef went to #1 the following week .
Amazing #1.
The Idols at No.5 was a massive shocker...but the Pop Idol finalists that year were awful
I thought The Darkness song was way better than mad world - it should have been Xmas number 1 instead!!
I like Will Youngs leave right now video!
Ozzy/Kelly, Jules/Michaels and Darkness sold enough in those few weeks to be in that year's top 20.
And how on earth "Ladies night" was placed higher than "Too lost in you" it's beyond human understanding.
2003 was the last fantastic year for the Christmas chart.
The Darkness song was VILE but at least we had a big battle for the top spot.
i so wanted the darkness to get to number 1 that week
I good and awful chart.
Mad World is probally the most depressing xmas #1s EVER. :/
I really liked Mad World at the time because of Donnie Darko- but, in retrorespect, the Gary Jules version of Mad World wasn't very good really. But it did stop the Darkness getting to number one, which is very good indeed.
I think the best track on that chart by far is Too Lost In You by Sugababes.
That Darkness song makes me want to smash something. What an awful song, thank god it didn't get to No. 1! Even though the song who beat it wasn't much better.
Sugababes were robbed of Xmas #1, the only good song in that top 10.
