Thread to discuss the upcoming council elections!
Really hoping the current Labour/Tory coalition in Aberdeen will be booted out but since the tories did so well in Aberdeen in the Holyrood election I'm scared they might just about hold on. The SNP actually got the most votes in the city last time but only 28% of the vote so hopefully that'll rise significantly. |

Poll puts vote share for the main parties as SNP 46% (+14 from 2012), Tory 19 (+6), Labour 17 (-14), Lib Dem 6 (-1), Green 8 (+6) & UKIP 3 (+3).

I think there will be a fair few SNP voters in Glasgow & Edinburgh that first preference greens. They should gain a few seats but unlike at Holyrood it won't gift Davidson a constituency seat and kill our chances of a majority.

I'm electing a Mayor for Manc and thankfully am able to preference. Leaning towards first preferencing the greens at the moment then preferencing Burnham last (I ain't voting for UKIP or the Tory lot) so in the head to head he gets my nod over a Tory

If Scotland does become independent I can see the Greens making big gains from us as I'd imagine some voters (although not most) will have voted SNP as they give the best chance of independence but actually line up more with the Greens. first time i'll be living between two constituencies so will have to choose where to vote
 i will probably go with north dorset, my town is becoming a two member country ward and will most likely go/remain Tory but i'll be backing our local lib dems who are absolutely fantastic!

I get two preferences for Manchester Mayor so my first will be going green and second to Burnham. I wouldn't be surprised if Labour took it on round 1 with 50%+ of the vote but in case he doesn't I'm throwing him my second preference to keep Traffords Tory c**t out

I suspect I'll be going with the Lib Dems at the council since my neck of the woods is a bit of a yellow enclave in the sea of Hampshire blue so that's something I guess.

With all the excitement about the General Election, let's not forget that in Great Britain, there's council elections tomorrow to elect the person you'd most like to contact when the binman refuses to collect your purple bin despite the fact that it's Monday and you put it in the right place and you took all foreign objects out of it and ensured there was nothing but 100% glass in it and you need a councilor to contact to vent to and get them to collect your ruddy bin. There's also a few Mayoral elections on too.
What are your predictions for the election? Who'll win lots of seats, who'll lose lots of seats, and who will win the Mayoral races? The only thing I can predict with certainty is that Ukip will be somewhat decimated locally. |

I think we'll see the start of the trend for the national elections. UKIP dead, Labour on life support, LibDems starting to fight for survival and Tories undeservedly cleaning up.

Most of the councils up for election are strong Tory heartlands (hence it might be difficult to tell Labour's trajectory for the general most strongly and the Tories will just bob along unhindered for the most part I imagine) but I'll be watching the trends.
Hoping (and maybe thinking, I'm not sure) Lib Dems can get back control of Cornwall, to get them having something on the map again. I feel fairly confident in Stephen Williams for the West of England mayoral though. |

Just voted! SNP 1, Lib Dem 2 & 3, SLab 4 and the two Tories last. It seems certain the Tories will remain in some sort of coalition in Aberdeen ;o

That seems to be a trend for the Tories at the moment. Literally every single leaflet they dropped in the run up to today in Scotland mentions Ruth or the Tories 9 times and the SNP and Nicola 42!!!!! There's not a single mention, not one even hint of a mention, at any form of policy. Already running on this same platform for the snap GE as well.
The "constitution obsessed" SNP make no mentions of the constitution in their local election leaflets. Mainly because it's a f***ing Council election. |
