Right, this already seems to have some fans on here so I thought it was time for a thread in time for the UK premiere tomorrow night at 10pm on FX. Basically it's some crazy ass shit, even if it isn't scary as such it's brilliant with how MENTAL it all seems. All from Ryan Murphy, creator of Glee (and Nip/Tuck).

So basically people, if you haven't already been keep tracking at US pace, mark it in your planners for tomorrow.

Posted by: J∆RK 6th November 2011, 07:35 PM

Great show. Jessica Lange was born to play the role of Constance! I guess this topic is UK pace? So anyone watching at US pace should employ spoilers.

My only problem with it is that I find Connie Britton's character way too cold. She's impossible to like.

Posted by: J*hnkilometre 6th November 2011, 07:54 PM

Oh I agree very much, she's a bit of a bitch most of the time and not the fabulous kind either.

Constance is LIFE though, amazing acting from Jessica Lange.

Posted by: Mart!n 6th November 2011, 08:08 PM

I'm so looking forward to see this.

Posted by: Jonjo 7th November 2011, 01:26 AM

My favourite new show of the season. No contest. I'm really getting into it and I'm gutted to hear about Tate! ohmy.gif He's probably the most interesting thing about this show! Particularly these last couple of episodes! His story is keeping me intrigued. They BETTER bring him back at some point though.

I also agree with Jark on Connie Britton's character. She's the only thing that lets this down for me.

Posted by: Luke_cz 8th November 2011, 01:24 PM

My favourite new show as well! It's a must-see show! heart.gif Constance/Jessica Lange is (and will continue to be, as far as I can tell you) incredible!

Posted by: Mart!n 8th November 2011, 01:45 PM

Loved it, I was hooked from start to finish, can't wait to see the next episode, I love the light humour in it as well, it had a few scare out moments. Jessica Lange was a dream to watch, perfect in her role, the bondage guy just freaked me out.

I also agree with Jark on Connie Britton's character.

Posted by: Jáhq 10th November 2011, 09:43 PM

What an episode #6 was, I think it was my favourite so far. Great to see some of Tate's backstory and what a revelation it was, seems we're finally starting to get some answers.

As for Connie Britton, I don't mind her, she seems to be the only sane one in the show (well, apart from actually eating the brain?) and amongst all the other people, I think that bit of balance is needed.

Actually got a slight scare for perhaps the first time in one of Eric Stonestreet's scenes - he seemed to do pretty well. The cast and guest stars seem pretty much perfect.

Posted by: råndomfurlöng 11th November 2011, 12:26 AM

I can't agree at all on Connie Britton. I'd always heard she was wonderful on Friday Night Lights, but never actually seen her before - and I think she's lovely, the obvious way 'in' to the show, though still of course slightly brittle and befuddled. I like her much more than Dylan McDermott's character.

Excited to see Sarah Paulson show up this week too! Such good guest stars they have, though once again it was really Jessica Lange bringing it this week.

Posted by: Luke_cz 11th November 2011, 08:49 PM

Yeah Jáhq, the Tate's backstory was pretty good, I think it answered some questions, but Vivien eating a brain was disgusting, wasn't it? Constance knows what is the best for the children biggrin.gif

I still like Vivien/Connie more and more wub.gif

Posted by: Jáhq 11th November 2011, 08:55 PM

I'm not great with anything bloody or even talking about blood sometimes so I had to turn away in scenes such as Violet self-harming but I strangely didn't mind watching the part with the brain.

I agree with David regarding Dylan McDermott, he's my least favourite by quite a way.

Posted by: GrAmii 12th November 2011, 12:48 PM

I may need to check this out again. I didn't get through the pilot. I don't know why. The story seemed good but the characters were so unlikeable. It's a shame as I was really looking forward to it but it didn't meet my expectations sad.gif

Posted by: Jáhq 15th November 2011, 11:13 PM

I know someone mentioned before about what ratings it'll acheive in the UK given it's on FX and I've managed to find this:

QUOTE
UK - FX

Key BARB Highlights:

- Delivered a total of 128,200 People 4+ viewers for the live run.

- Strong come back for its second week, episode 2 delivered more viewers with an increase of +27% vs. the premiere (158.700 vs. 128.200).

I don't know what FX normally does so whether that's good for them, but regardless of that, it's at least good news that it increased. biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 16th November 2011, 01:16 AM

Pleased to hear about the ratings! biggrin.gif I suspect 'The Walking Dead' is the biggest show on FX at the moment, do we know what kind of viewers that is pulling in?

Anyway, finally caught up with last weeks episode. Absolutely brilliant. Some fantastic character development. Evan Peters is a fantastic actor! I suspect big things for him the near future! It's a shame that Tate won't be around for anymore episodes (bar next week, I suspect?) at the moment. He's definitely the most interesting character in the show for me. I wonder why he did what he did though? Was he possessed by that Demon thing that attacked that girl in episode 1? Or are supposed to think he's just some sort of psycho? When Constance interacted with Adelaide one last time, it really pulled on my heart strings. Some very touching moments.

Looking forward to tomorrow's episode. (Oh and I adore the flashbacks at the start of most episodes!)

Posted by: Jonjo 25th November 2011, 02:01 AM

Just started watching episode 8... I literally cannot believe that Tate was the "rubber man"! Going to watch the rest of this episode now and will edit this post later, after I've seen it.

EDIT: Absolutely fantastic episode! Nice to finally get some movement on why the spirits are in the house and it was interesting to see why they need want the babies so desperately. Very tense and interesting viewing.

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 25th November 2011, 09:29 AM

I guessed the rubber man was Tate a while back, it seemed the only logical choice.

Anyway yes fantastic episode, so much happened, it felt like it was closer to the finale than episode 8 so hopefully there's no filler between now and the end. I was actually rooting for Vivienne to DIE, she's so f***ing useless and irritating.

Posted by: Luke_cz 25th November 2011, 09:57 AM

It was kind of obvious that it's Tate (especially from the trailer), it's a good choice I would say, better than some ghost of the house or the evil of the house itself IMO. It just makes sense.
I'm still interested to see how will the babies look like considering the father is a dead boy.

Posted by: Jonjo 25th November 2011, 09:57 AM

I was too. She just seems so hard to sympathise with. She sort of gets there but at the ultimate point, she just fails and leaves me feeling a bit cold. Although the looks she gave to her daughter were quite chilling and it was the first time I felt sorry for her.

Can I also just say how brilliant Taissa and Evan work together? I can't see how this will be the last episode with Tate in! He's pretty much a part of the show now and I imagine he's got quite the fanbase that if they got rid of him they'd lose most of their 18-30 audience (or whatever it is they need for success in America haha) Although IMDB is lying. They have everyone else on the right amount of episodes (apart from Constance - who is featured in all 13 episodes, despite not being seen in the latest one) from what I can see. But Tate is only on 6 when he's been in 7. I guess Ryan had a change of heart on Tate and decided to keep him? unsure.gif

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 25th November 2011, 10:07 AM

I will be very annoyed if Tate isn't in it anymore. Aside from being brilliant, he's also HOT. Not that that constitutes much of my love for the show, but it' a nice bonus *.*

Look how wrong that was.

They can't get rid of Tate now, not now we know he's the rubber man and thus the father of the babies. This is pretty messed up, Tate was the most logical option but now we have confirmation, and he's slept with both Vivienne and her daughter. I was wondering if Vivienne was going to die, it's not like she'd have to be out of the show if she did, but I also sympathise with her at times, I find it frustrating slightly when you see other characters thinking she's crazy when we've actually seen this stuff happening.

We might have had a quick glance of Constance but I can't remember, nothing major.

Posted by: Hayzayy 28th November 2011, 12:33 PM

Quite disturbing but yet very amazing show ! ohmy.gif
I've already watched 6 episodes on saturday night happy.gif

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 1st December 2011, 07:26 PM

I thought this weeks was going to be a filler episode, but then when Travis got killed and appeared beside his body along with the other ghosts it turned a corner. That and Ben now 'seeing things as they are' as Moira put it was good, hopefully he is REPULSED at his actions with her.

Posted by: Jáhq 1st December 2011, 07:48 PM

I think this episode set things up really well, we're finally getting somewhere and with the last scene & 4 episodes (and a half if the finale is 90 minutes) still to go, I assume it'll end with the babies being born or something like that. I liked the twist, had just assumed Tate was the father of both. Constance & Moira were great.

Posted by: Luke_cz 1st December 2011, 08:59 PM

Pretty good episode, Constance and Moira were awesome! Ben is now FINALLY seeing things as they are.
Where's Violet though?

Apocalypse is coming!

Posted by: PurpleNurples 7th December 2011, 12:58 PM

Love this show, watched about 7 in a row. Even the opening theme creeps me out, most unsettling title sequence ever. Some big developments in the latest episode.

Re. Violet there is a lot of people on forums who think (not a spoiler but will black it out in case people don't want to read it!) the suicide attempt was actually successful and Violet is now also a ghost, based on the fact she hasn't left the house since. It's definitely possible I guess, Tate could have hid her body anywhere!

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 7th December 2011, 02:50 PM

I hadn't though about that, it certainly makes sense.

Posted by: Jáhq 7th December 2011, 07:40 PM

Apparantly we should get some kind of answer to that very issue in tonight's episode!

QUOTE(Jáhq @ Dec 7 2011, 07:40 PM) *

We did indeed! Loved this episode Taissa said she totally called it with the whole not going to school thing and even though I expected it I thought it was so well done. Taissa is such a good actress, really felt for her as she found she couldn't leave and then when Tate eventually revealed the truth to her.

I love the relationship between her and Tate, they are such good actors.

Constance continues to be fabulous love what she did to her cheating husband! Also loved how everyone assumed Larry got his facial burns in the fire, but it was actually Tate too, prior to the massacre!

Only two episodes left, this and Once Upon a Time are my new TV obsessions so sad this is coming to an end, it's utterly demented but fabulous!

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 8th December 2011, 11:11 PM

Evan Peters really is a revelation as Tate. He plays it so brilliantly, with a much needed subltlty which really adds to the role. Plus as I've mentioned a few times he's super hot.

Looking back on it now, the Violet thing is blatantly obvious. How I didn't think of it I have no idea.

Constance is truly amazing though, the head tilts, the voice, the attitude. She's such a bitch, but the most fabulous kind - restrained and just so perfectly cunty.

Posted by: Jonjo 11th December 2011, 03:45 PM

Finally caught up with the last two episodes! Have been without internet for 2 weeks so hadn't managed to read spoilers or anything and was SHOCKED at the whole Violet thing and it was superbly done! Everything. How they made us believe Violet was still human. The fact it happened a little while ago (didn't it happen around the Halloween episode?). Most of all, the acting from both Taissa and Evan and the chemistry them two have together. Perfect. Ryan Murphy really knows how to get it right. I get the feeling that as soon as Ben finds out that Violet is actually dead and finds out that they can't leave the house or whatever, they'll just pretend to carry on a normal life or whatever just so they can still be with her.

Episodes 11 & 12 are called "Birth" and "After Birth" so I think we know what the final two episodes will be about. Do we know if it's been given the go ahead for another season? How successful has it been over in the US? Surely it's only a matter of time before Channel 4/E4 or Channel 5 pick it up or something?

Posted by: JACK! 11th December 2011, 05:04 PM

Very successful! A second season of 13 episodes was ordered a while ago. It tends to get around a 1.6 Adult 18-49 rating on a weekly basis which I think makes it the 2nd most successful show on FX behind 'Sons of Anarchy', which wasn't as successful in it's first season and has actually grown, so this could follow suit and do even better next year perhaps.

Posted by: Hayzayy 11th December 2011, 10:46 PM

I do wonder what they will do of the show next season. The more we learn about the characters and their past, the least enigmatic it gets and although I still love watching it, it's less confusing and enjoybale than it once was.
I don't want them to milk the characters for a whole new season, so maybe the most sensible choice would be to focus on an other home of the same kind with new characters?

Although I'm sure/I hope they'll find a brillant way to continue with the same characters.

Posted by: Little Jack 15th December 2011, 05:32 PM

BLIMEY. So much seemed to happen, I think my highlight was the finale scene with Tate & Violet. Set it up very well for next weeks 90 minute finale.

Glad to see it's got a couple of Golden Globe nods too, for Best Drama & for Jessica Lange as Supporting Actress.

Posted by: Jonjo 15th December 2011, 06:16 PM

She best get that! She's such a brilliant actress in this. She plays the ultimate bitch and has everything you want/need in a TV bitch. Hopefully it'll surprise and get the "Best drama" award too.

Posted by: Jσηνκι& 15th December 2011, 11:30 PM

WOW WOW WOW WOW

That's my reaction to that episode, for the most part I was AGOG. It's all so good, no idea where they'll go in the finale but it can only be good.

Posted by: Jonjo 17th December 2011, 10:58 AM

I agree with that sentiment! Finally caught up and FANTASTIC episode! Really looking forward to the finale. I didn't expect Vivien to die! (I'm crap at guessing things haha) I wonder whether Violet will end up forgiving Tate in the end? I really hope she does, because I love them two together. Their chemistry is brilliant. I do wonder where they're planning on going with the finale? Obviously Ben having to be on his own, although not technically on his own, will be interesting to see. He'll break down! I do wonder whether he'll end up committing suicide or something. I guess Constance will battle with Vivien for the baby and I have a feeling they'll get rid of one of the main characters, for good. (Hopefully one of the gay couple or that doctor person as opposed to someone from the main cast. (i.e. Vivien, Ben, Violet, Tate, Moira, Hayden - Although I don't see where she could go after the final episode...) It's all getting tense.

Posted by: joshuadavid 20th December 2011, 12:18 AM

The ghost of the addict doctor, really freaks me out.

Posted by: Osiris 22nd December 2011, 07:28 AM

At first I thought this show was horrible but alas I'm slowly becoming addicted laugh.gif

Posted by: Little Jack 22nd December 2011, 11:17 AM

Lots of thoughts on the finale, mostly positive. I didn't expect Ben to die so soon, but I'm glad it wasn't through suicide. For a bit I wondered if the new family that moved in were going to be part of S2, glad they aren't though. Will be interesting to see where they go with S2 now though, it won't be a completely new house/family, seems Constance (yay!) and the kid will be sticking around, but I don't know how they're going to play with that.

Some parts were quite emotional, Violet saying goodbye to Tate and the part where they're all around the Christmas tree, and Viv has decided that the maid can be the godmother.

One bit I still don't think I get though, how come some people see Moira as old, but others see a young version?

Posted by: Joao. 22nd December 2011, 07:33 PM

I thought the last episode was quite average really. As impressive as the season has been, after the watching the final episode I feel like it was incredibly condensed and rushed through. Looking at the spoilers for Season 2 though I can see why it's been done like that now. I'm disappointed in the changes for the next season but at the same time I can't really see any other way to keep the series from becoming repetitive.

This was explained away as 'men seeing what they want' earlier in the season. However that doesn't really answer why she's the only one who seemed to age at all.

I read an article about S2 which confirms that its a totally new family/setting, however some of the old cast may feature in different roles, but those we know now will absolutely not be back. That's pretty much what I expected/wanted to be honest, keeps it fresh.

As for this episode it tied up the loose ends nicely. It wasn't as good as I had hoped, but then pretty much everything that could happen HAD happened already. The final scene with Constance/the child would have been nice to have seen more, but I think we can put 2+2 together ourselves.

Ah, I did wonder about the aging as I didn't think the ghosts could age but I thought it would be odd if they baby was always going to be a baby.

I guess the last scene doesn't need to be continued, but it would've been nice to see a little more.

I don't know if we want Jessica Lange back or not, obviously she's been brilliant but do we want her in a role that isn't as good, or as a re-hash of Constance?

Posted by: Jonjo 27th December 2011, 04:49 PM

Good finale! Ben dying so soon was shocking, but apart from that it was a nice enough end. Finale's are always overrated/over hyped. I nearly always prefer the episodes before the finale. I'm happy about Season 2 being a completely new scenario altogether - as it is called "An American Horror Story" but I am not so sure about whether I like some of the older cast coming back as completely different characters..

But yeah. I really cannot wait to get the DVD of this. It's easily been the best show on TV for me.

I've just watched all of Murder House, after watching Coven and I absolutely loved it. I thought Coven was great, but I was far more scared with the first series. Coven seemed way more 'soapy'.

Posted by: d__ 11th February 2014, 10:03 AM

^^

The second series was better, until the devil dies, I mean

Posted by: Jonjo 11th February 2014, 03:16 PM

For me 1 > 3 > 2 - I love them all though, although I liked a lot of season 2, I just felt like it was stuck in a loop hole for a while and nothing was moving forward for ages. Ryan Murphy tends to do that a lot though. Which is why it all feels so rushed by the end of the seasons and they have disappointing (but still decent enough) finales.

Posted by: J°hnkm 11th February 2014, 03:59 PM

I'd go 3 > 2 > 1 tbh. At the time I thought I preferred Murder House to Asylum, but in retrospect the latter has stuck with me more. Coven might have been a little story lite, but in terms of what I watch the show for (OTT ridiculousness, amazing one liners, fabulous character) it was by far the best.

Posted by: Æ 12th February 2014, 06:27 PM

3 > 1 > 2

end.

Posted by: Lovett™ 16th February 2014, 12:21 AM

I've just finished watching Asylum. I thought it was great and Sarah Paulson was outstanding, but I think I enjoyed it the least out of the three. I think I'd rate it 3 > 1 > 2. But all three seasons have been brilliant, I can't wait for the fourth!

Posted by: Jonjo 13th January 2015, 02:28 AM

AGREED. wub.gif

He's so good in this (well, I'm a fan of anything he does tbh). I can see him being a vital part of Season 5, tbh. When Ryan tweeted him about this part, it got such a huge, positive reaction online! Hopefully him and Finn team up and be psychotic, murdering cousins or something laugh.gif

Yeah, I stopped watching mainly as due to the fact I just didn't have the time, but unfortunately it just wasn't grabbing me much in terms of the storyline, it dragged too much and I just didn't overly care for most of the characters. I can't agree with this more.

In fact, Asylum was the only truly good series for me. I enjoyed Coven purely for its brilliant characterisation, but the plot there was a mess. Horror House was intriguing for about 5 episodes, but just got totally lost in itself. Freak Show is a total mess, Murphy was just too ambitious there.
