Chart Commentary

Firstly, a huge thank you to those who commented last week! I will endeavour to return the favour this week

Onto this week's chart, the top three highest new entries all come as a result of New Music Friday yesterday and make an instant huge impression. Expect all three to climb next week but for now, let's look at all three tracks.



Neither Britney Spears nor G-Eazy are strangers to the #1 spot, having achieved three chart toppers between them, so their collaboration Make Me... is in a good spot to make the top next week, especially with a debut as high as #8 this week. The song is the first single from Britney's ninth studio album, and if it makes the top spot, it would be her third #1 after Perfume and Pretty Girls (poor Work Bitch got stuck behind Alyssa Reid's Satisfaction Guaranteed, both songs debuted that week so it was incredibly unlucky). G-Eazy topped the chart as a featured artist on Grace's You Don't Own Me at the end of 2015.

On the other hand, 5 Seconds of Summer are indeed strangers to the #1 spot. Despite seven previous top 10 hits, none made the #1 spot. They notch up an eighth top 10 with Ghostbusters song Girls Talk Boys, new in at #10. Will it go on to give them a first #1 at long last?

Likewise, Katy Perry hasn't had a #1 single so far, although four of the five singles from Prism went top 10, three of which also made the top 5, so her Olympics theme song Rise is looking poised to join them next week after its #13 debut this week. #13 actually matches the peak position of the fifth and final Prism single, This Is How We Do. Elsewhere, Maty Noyes jumps up nine places to #1 with her debut solo single In My Mind, outpeaking the #4 position she achieved on Kygo's Stay. With Delta Goodrem and Gizzle at #2, it means this is the first top 2 since chart date 14th November 2015, where Fleur East and AURORA climbed to #1 and #2 respectively with Sax and Half the World Away, to not include a single male artist, even as a feature.

Olly Murs enters at #20 with new single You Don't Know Love, which becomes his second top 20 hit after #5 hit Up. Olly is very hit and miss with me, and to date, he's only had four chart hits - the two previously mentioned plus Seasons (#38) and Dear Darlin' (#37).

Jakob Karlberg (pictured) notches up his fourth chart hit at #38, following top 5 hits Fan va bra and Fel på dig. Isac Elliot also enters at #25, with What About Me, the follow-up to #5 hit Worth Something. His new EP A Little More is the highest (and only) new entry on the album chart at #2.

Finally, Joel Adams registers his 30th consecutive week on the chart with his debut single Please Don't Go! It has so far gone on to spend 2 weeks at #1 and 11 weeks in the top 10. It climbs one place to #28 this week (its debut position, coincidentally).
