The first quarterfinal sees Switzerland take on Spain who were both involved in two thrilling matches in the second round in St Petersburg. Switzerland are in their first quarterfinal at a major tournament for the first time since the 1954 World Cup.

How do we see this one going?

Another own goal? Regardless, Spain lead already.

Swiss need to find another gear or two in the second half or this tournament will just peter out for them

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 2nd July 2021, 05:11 PM

Come on Switzerland! Would love another surprise here, only one goal behind still.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 05:25 PM

Shaqiri levels for Switzerland.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 2nd July 2021, 05:27 PM

And there we go! Anyone's game now.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 05:33 PM

Freuler sent off for Switzerland.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 2nd July 2021, 05:34 PM

Oh dear, red card for Switzerland. That will make life a lot more difficult for them sad.gif

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 06:00 PM

Spain looking this evening as ordinary as they did in their first two games of the tournament.

Posted by: DJHazey 2nd July 2021, 06:10 PM

Without Sommer, Switzerland would already be dead in the water.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 06:21 PM

Yes, Spain would have been 3-1 up without Sommer.

Posted by: LiamSime 2nd July 2021, 06:27 PM

Spain just can’t take there chances and they are gonna regret it big time!

Posted by: Houdini 2nd July 2021, 06:28 PM

Spain have squandered so many chances in this match. The Switzerland goalkeeper should get man of the match.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 06:34 PM

Penalties it is then.

Switzerland coming to knock out another big team on penalties cheeseblock.png

Posted by: Quarantilas 2nd July 2021, 06:37 PM

Finally people puttin respect on Sommers name

That First Spanish penalty was hilarious. I’m still in hysterics

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 06:39 PM

Still 1-1 on penalties, Sommer what a fantastic game he has had.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2021, 06:43 PM

Spain through to the semifinals.

Posted by: Quarantilas 2nd July 2021, 06:43 PM

A lot of insanely bad pens there. Like so many weak efforts, sadly mostly from the Swiss that undone the good work by Sommer. But understandable that the occasion was maybe playing on the Swiss a bit.

Posted by: Bré 2nd July 2021, 06:46 PM

More penalties missed than scored lmao

Spain surviving then, but well done to Switzerland taking France and Spain back to back into penalties.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 2nd July 2021, 07:16 PM

What an awful penalty shootout laugh.gif Spain getting very lucky again, credit to Switzerland though as they already did amazing beating France, lightning striking twice was always a little unlikely.

Swiss prob got to where their level is at they are one of the top sides in Europe at the moment not lowly small Switzerland that some will have you think. They got to the Nations League final as well.

Wish they had beat Spain as can’t warm to Enriques side for some reason.

I support Spain, it's a pity I was unlucky. I hope they will perform well at the World Cup.

If Spain had a striker that was clinical in front of goal they probably would have won the tournament. They need to get an alternative to Morata ASAP.
