BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Sia - The Greatest

Either a charity single for a LGBT organisation or a rerelease of 'This is Acting'. More likely the former but not 100% sure.

Either way, excited! ohmy.gif

Can't she release it on a Friday? Ffs. Hyped though.

No, because that's Gaga's day hitler.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Sep 4 2016, 01:01 PM

Isn't she releasing a new album? She said last year she had two albums done...

Posted by: liamk97 Sep 4 2016, 10:15 PM

There's far too many highlights from This Is Acting for her to move onto a new album or re-release any time soon. 'Broken Glass' needs its time to shine!

Posted by: BeaverGotTrumped Sep 4 2016, 10:18 PM

Is Maddie back?

Yeah she won't relwase at same time as GaGa tbh laugh.gif

Another cracker from Sia biggrin.gif though I have say I love the verses more than the chorus.

It doesn't matter that she's releasing midweek, songs generally climb to their peak these days. Hopefully it's a "proper" single with radio getting on board, can easily see it going Top 20 if that's the case.

Posted by: mr_pmt Sep 6 2016, 10:50 AM

The chorus is a bit disappointing compared to the rest of it.

Posted by: JosephStyles Sep 6 2016, 11:39 AM

This is really good!! ohmy.gif Probably the most instant one of her songs has been for me!

Posted by: Cameron Sep 6 2016, 12:46 PM

This is incredible!

Posted by: Scene Sep 6 2016, 12:51 PM

The video is a really powerful Orlando tribute. Not one of my favourite songs from Sia but I'd want it to take off just for the video.

Posted by: Davidson Sep 6 2016, 02:27 PM

I think I already prefer this to everything on 'This Is Acting'.

Sounds like a massive hit to me, so instant and everything a pop song should be. Is this going to be the 'Roar' to the new Gaga single???

Posted by: mdh Sep 6 2016, 03:53 PM

It's pretty good - but Kendrick is the real highlight. I'd have loved a longer verse from him, but I'm sure this'll grow on me just like Cheap Thrills did.

Posted by: Liаm Sep 6 2016, 03:53 PM

Omg this is IMMENSE. Huge hit surely?

Posted by: HausofKubrick Sep 6 2016, 06:23 PM

For me the chorus is the saving point. It's brilliant but the verses are a bit samey and tame in my opinion (they might grow as I learn the lyrics maybe).

The video is beautiful too <3

Aside: I am really gutted she's (potentially) left the 'This Is Acting' era behind now because it had so much more potential sad.gif

Posted by: Liаm Sep 6 2016, 06:44 PM

I think she is leaving This Is Acting behind sad.gif JosepVinaxia says that the We Are Your Children hashtag is the new album out later this year. It's good to have more new music after TIA was a real return to form (I wasn't hugely fond of 1000 Forms Of Fear) but Broken Glass and Move Your Body at least need to be released sad.gif

Posted by: burbe Sep 6 2016, 07:34 PM

Sia churning out yet another hit! Love this and the video is very powerful. I can see this being a huge hit, especially off the back of Cheap Thrills.

Posted by: princess_lotita Sep 6 2016, 07:42 PM

this rlly is great. MAKING ME NERVOUS FOR FRIDAY mellow.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles Sep 6 2016, 07:43 PM

I feel like This Is Acting was like a stopgap between two proper eras? See the wigs - she was blonde in 1000 Forms of Fear, half blonde and half black in This Is Acting, and now all black? *random observation* Makes sense with it being an album of songs for other people I guess, I doubt she expected Cheap Thrills to take off so much! laugh.gif

Posted by: Cremey Sep 6 2016, 07:51 PM

^ that sounds pretty plausible to be honest!

Bloody LOVE this. + Kendrick brings it as always.

Posted by: Cameron Sep 6 2016, 08:01 PM

Sia probably stopped with This Is Acting once Cheap Thrills hit #1 in the US. She wanted to end on a high!

Posted by: burbe Sep 6 2016, 08:07 PM

It's just a shame Broken Glass never got it's chance sad.gif That theory does make sense though!

Posted by: jark Sep 7 2016, 08:30 AM

Broken Glass shits on this new song from a very great height, as does Move Your Body. It's just OK.

Posted by: HarryEzra Sep 7 2016, 11:03 AM

Wow that video is super powerful heart.gif cry.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn Sep 7 2016, 01:27 PM

I don't like it..?

Posted by: Taylor Jago Sep 7 2016, 03:09 PM

When does Kendrick Lamar even sing or rap on this? I honestly can't hear him in any of the song.

Maybe he just sings "I've got stamina" a few times. Still, I really like this!

Posted by: Cremey Sep 7 2016, 03:12 PM

He has a whole verse! The version I listened to at first didn't have him in either, but the iTunes version (and I assume the video) has his verse.

(although this is drawing me back in I think 🤓)

The single/video is the perfect combination. Probably one of my favourite Sia songs already!

Posted by: *.* Sep 7 2016, 09:53 PM

This is amazing. The amount of good pop music coming out right now is insane.

Sia performed both this song and Chandelier at the end of Apple's Event today which I just streamed online.

That video. Oh my god.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE Sep 8 2016, 08:56 PM

It doesn't really matter when she releases it... it probably won't peak until February lol.

Posted by: Ðøßßø Sep 9 2016, 05:48 PM

Sounds alright but not amazing, could be a grower.

Posted by: jakewild Sep 11 2016, 04:28 PM

somehow didn't even realise it was an Orlando tribute but watching the vid again it's so obvs now

classic sia j a m

Posted by: dandy* Sep 12 2016, 08:29 PM

I love this. It's kinda Sia by numbers but I still love it none the less.

Posted by: Jake Sep 13 2016, 12:24 AM

she's beginning to make that transition into 'icon' and its fabulous

Posted by: Noahspike Sep 17 2016, 05:44 PM

The fact that Sia's name power has become such that this is already a Top 5 hit is so well deserved in terms of her overall career, but the song itself is almost comically formulaic that it only makes me think how outstanding she'd be if she pushed herself a bit more. I do like the track because it's got her magic touches all over it, however they mask and distract from the bland, lazy lyrics and tired empowerment clichés throughout (which'd be apparent if anyone else was at the vocal helm). Lyrically and structurally, it sounds like it was put together in minutes when she was out of ideas and barely even trying, and the whole thing definitely feels throwaway and insubstantial when compared to her best efforts. In saying all that, I've been playing it loads recently (and Kendrick's contribution certainly helps), so I guess her immense musical talent should be commended for enabling her make something so half-arsed yet effective! I'm also glad that it was 'Cheap Thrills' of all songs that paved the way for this to smash instantly, but yeah, it's nothing special and ultimately I expect more from her~

She really has! Her name alone sells music in a way that people like Gaga don't seem to have the ability to anymore. I know she's seen as new on the scene for the general public and bringing up the age thing is a bit tired, but it IS great to see for a 40 year old.

I love the song though. More than anything on TIA. adore the production.

Posted by: jakewild Sep 18 2016, 04:48 PM

didn't realise she was 40! 😱

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ Sep 18 2016, 04:56 PM

I think I've watched the video over 20 times. One of my favourite videos in a long while and definitely Sia's best since Soon We'll Be Found. The choreography, the setting, the dancers, the emotion, it's perfect.

i'm so disappointed by this opinion ...

i literally cannot begin to put into words how exceptional i think sia is as a popstar, songwriter, pop context and human

for a woman to turn 40 and actively choose to become one of the world's biggest pop stars, actively making a point of not showing your face; she is beyond remarkable; the anti popstar POPSTAR...her love for the absurd...literally putting a record out based around the songs the biggest pop stars turned down and you released and had massive hits with

her max martin-esque ability to write songs / perform / JUST BE...here is a woman who had clearly sufferers with depression, insecurity and addiction. to be relatable and a popstar is almost a contridiction but i can say hand on heart i can't think who she even vaguely reminds me of, one of a kind and then A BIT

I completely agree with all of that! My post was a criticism only as far as this song, and my standards for her are as high as they are because of how all-round incredible she is as a pop entity (though I'm not sure your full post was a direct response to mine).

It's a personal preference but I can't get very invested in a song that's so reliant on repetition of the most obvious empowerment tropes; from climbing mountains to not giving up to being 'alive' (and then roping in 'tonight' to rhyme for good measure)! The sentiment and emotion are both there, as ever with Sia, but there's not much beyond that. The lyrics lack substance to me and I know she's more than capable of better.

As I said though, I'm delighted she's now at a stage this far into her career that people en masse take listen and respond as soon as she puts something out as it's so justified for all of the reasons you've mentioned.

Exceptional woman / mega relatable icon or not, this song is terrible. Almost a parody in how closely it follows the Cheap Thrills formula.

Posted by: Karma Sep 21 2016, 09:46 AM

Still love this. Sia strikes again.

do you have any idea where i might br able to buy able to buy a life size cut out of an exceptional pop star, preferably sia, it doesn't have to be iconic, preferably mega though thanks

This has now become my favourite song of the year for me she's only female singer this year who's album has been solid and I want to listen again and again biggrin.gif

Listened The Greatest first time today. Not bad but Cheap Thrills was absolutely blast so I keep listening it.
