An interesting question, as I'm sure it varies from person to person - but what was it that made you love this kind of music? (I assume that you love it, which is why you're in this forum at the moment!) For me, it started with listening to the chart show and NOW compilations and preferring the dance records, and then I got into it further through buying dance compilations, I remember 'Floorfillers 3' and 'Clubland 7' were my first but my music tastes have changed since then - I prefer progressive and electro house/big room to the hardstyle-lite tracks that would appear on those compilations along side the big commercial hits of the day. So for example that BJSC 'Broken Angel' from Yehesi would have appealed to my 8 year old self more than it appealed to me now.

I got more into dance from the Judge Jules slot many years ago on Radio 1, I would listen to it religiously and the show went on for many years!! Then I came down to London and started to go to Fabric, Ministry and all the big clubs for big nights. Mainly into progressive and hard house although the older I get the less I listen to this!!

I've always liked it, but the emergence of Daft Punk and Disclosure in my life last year has made me a whole lot more actively interested in the genre.

I've always liked it, but certain nights out have single-handedly changed my music taste.

First ever song you could possibly describe as 'dance' that I really really liked was this:

I was 14 and before then it was pop all the way, and all the 1990s dance tracks I love now I wasn't as much a fan of a kid - too repetitive and not enough lyrics. But this one I adored.

The big discovery years for me were 2004 and 2005, when I started listening to a huge amount of dance radio stations and music channels and hearing almost every major dance track of the last fifteen years or so, many for the first time. At the time late night Radio 1 was dominated by hard house and trance, and irritatingly very few of it was actually making the charts in favour of looped 80s house of the 'Call On Me' style. Here's a few mid-noughties tracks that remind me of blasting them into my ears in the middle of the night as a teenager:

Public Domain - Love U More (PD's Dirty Tech-Trance Vocal Mix)
Armin van Buuren - Communication Part 3 (Coldware Cold Remix)
Tiesto feat. Kirsty Hawkshaw - Just Be
Commander Tom - Attention (F&W Mix)

And the absolute sound of Summer 2006 for me, Orkidea's 'Beautiful' (Alt+F4 remix)

This music seemed so much better than anything in the charts at the time, and while I think chart dance music has got a lot better since the start of this decade, would love to see a trance revival occur one day!

My parents are huge fans of dance music so I was introduced to the likes of Faithless and The Prodigy at a very early age laugh.gif

I actually remember discovering 'Right Here Right Now' by Fatboy Slim on one of my parents floorfillers compilations and I think that's where the love of dance music started. tongue.gif

Sheila Tracey 1960. Those big dance bands of the late 50s & early 60s. The dance halls across the country. Great stuff. Shame they've all been turned into Bingo halls.

Now exactly sure "how" but when I started listening to the charts in 1992/93, every other track was a dance track and I always liked them the most. Likewise, those old enough to remember The Chart Show, they used to do specialist top ten charts (indie/dance/rock) and always looked forward to the dance chart (was never into the indie or rock). Into the mid 90s, I got really into piano-style vocal house music. I loved stuff like Livin Joy, Alex Party and as I got older, I grew out of the NOW! compilations and onto Ministry of Sound compilations (and thinking I was proper hip!).

Bumping this back up as I want to share my own experience biggrin.gif

I'd not particularly had a taste for dance music until around 2005 when I was 13. Before that, it was just constant Pop/R&B for me... but in 2005 with the release of Faithless', Basement Jaxx's and The Prodigy's Greatest Hits they were the albums that caught my eye, introduced me to their back catalogues and got me into dance music!

I then went on to buy The Annual 2006 (MOS) that year and ever since I've had a preference to dance music. Over the years I've gone back and discovered dance tracks from the 80s right up until today.

This has since developed further and from 2012, House music has been a big passion of mine.

When I listened to ATB's 9PM (Till I Come) on its release week on a listening post in Virgin Megastores. Was instantly blown away and bought the CD single immediately (even though I'd gone in to get S Club 7's Bring It All Back...)

I just remember listening to eurodance in the early 90s, stuff like Rhythm Is A Dancer, Pump Up The Jam, What Is Love, Rhythm Of The Night, etc, and thinking wow this music is great. I'd be jealous of my older sister being old enough to go to clubs and hear that kind of music blasting. That lasted during the whole 90s, with house, trance, euro, garage all being big loves of mine. 1997-2002 is definitely my favorite period for club music.

Hard to say really. I get most of the tunes from the chart (and more recently plug.dj tongue.gif) and the same goes for other music genres.

All I Ever Wanted was the first mainstream song I can recall that started my passion for chart music (and loving heart.gif music.gif) which somehow got me into the NOW series and then the charts, pretty much the same as Dan!

My love for certain kinda of dance music erupted with DanceDanceRevolution, then quickly slipped into the mainstream with me listening to the DJ club mixes that usually play in my local stations. I also knew about Clubland a bit as well.

I started listening to the charts in 2011 when EDM acts like Harris and Guetta ruled the chart. They're my love at the 1st hear and i realized their albums were full of bops. So i rushed to the CD store, bought their discography, and played it loudly. tongue.gif In 4 years so many new dance acts bring the new sound, it will never go out of style. biggrin.gif
I know i'm kinda late in here, better than never right? wink.gif
