Would you like to see a Bake Off rival on the BBC with Mary, Mel & Sue? All the rumours in the press are saying that the BBC is quickly trying to develop a format to rush the show out next year (i.e. before Channel 4 has a chance to air Bake Off).

Some names being touted as a potential fourth member of the team to replace Paul are James Martin, Michel Roux Jr and Nadiya Hussain.

Do you think it's right that the BBC can do this?

Personally, I would love it. I'd probably prefer this over Channel 4's Bake Off since it features the best three of the team. Trying to work out a format will be tricky but the BBC doesn't may its lawyers for nothing.

Yes yes yes yes. I am so here for this. This would have 100% of the presenting talent and all the charm that bake off had. A good 20-25% of the reason this show became the smash it is I'd say is because of the BBC. No commercialisation, no adverts, the BBC talent pool etc

I was thinking that they could try a Masterchef spin-off but then I realised that wouldn't work as I don't think they'd allow 'Masterbaker' as a title. mellow.gif

I prefer the male-female judge dynamic so no to Nadiya. Michel was on Extra Slice last week and was really good and I've always liked him. A great chef and not one to be too showy or egotistical.

Mary did an interview on BBC Radio 2 today and has said that she's looking to do a show with Mel & Sue: http://www.digitalspy.com/tv/great-british...after-bake-off/

Looks like we're one step closer to this being a reality! dance.gif

Looks like the BBC have found their Bake Off replacement! Britain's Best Cook was announced today and it sounds eerily similar to Bake Off but broadened out to include cooking in general laugh.gif

QUOTE
BBC One today announced that it is launching a new cookery competition as Mary Berry leads the charge to find Britain’s Best Cook (w/t) in a series presented by Claudia Winkleman.
At a time when British cooking has never been more varied, inspiring or of such high quality, this series will test the real-life expertise of truly great home cooks and will celebrate the food people make for their loved ones every single day.

Mary Berry is returning to her first love; with more than 75 cookery books to her name, her authority in the home kitchen is beyond question and she is the natural choice for the lead judge. Taking the reins as host is Claudia Winkleman.

A search for a second judge is underway. They will be joining Mary to help hunt out those whose talents, until now, have been hidden away.

Mary Berry says: “I am never more at home than when I have my judging hat on. This series is going to encourage proper home cooking which I have always championed and I cannot wait to start. Claudia, for me, is the icing on the cake.”

Claudia Winkleman says: “I am over the moon to be part of this show. Am slightly obsessed with Mary so will follow her around with my own moussaka for most of the filming. Apologies in advance.”

Charlotte Moore, Director of BBC Content, says: “Home cooking has quietly become one of the nation's favourite obsessions and so there is no better place than BBC One to compete for this crown. The queen of all judges Mary Berry will be the indisputable head judge, with the irresistible Claudia Winkleman hosting proceedings. But, who will be Mary's judging partner? The search is on!”

Over eight episodes, the ten contestants will need to demonstrate skill under pressure and individual flair, as they’re asked to serve the most perfect version of dishes that define modern British home cooking as well as create their special take on well-loved classics.

The judges will be looking for dishes that define a new benchmark of excellence, whether it’s roast beef with the perfect roast potatoes, an ingenious twist on chicken curry or an irresistible chocolate pudding.

Each challenge will reveal new tips and techniques as the competing cooks battle to prove that they have the skills and repertoire, technical ability, resourcefulness and creativity to get through to the final and be crowned Britain’s Best Cook.

Britain’s Best Cook (8x60) was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director of Content, and David Brindley, Head of Commissioning, Popular Factual and Factual Entertainment, and is being made by Keo Films where the Executive Producers are Andrew Palmer, Matt Cole and Claire Nosworthy.

Mary Berry back on BBC One prime time will be good though heart.gif

I'd watch this even if it was an hour of people cooking microwave burgers for Mary. Glad to have Claudia on board too, she is BRILLIANT on the Sewing Bee and since that seems to have bene canned I need my fix.

Seems good, Claudia is a fab presenter and if it isn't broke don't fix it tbh. It'll be interesting to widen it to cooking, I knew the BBC would do a Bake Off replacement but at least they weren't so obvious as to do another baking show laugh.gif

I actually really enjoyed this - it was the perfect mix of the kіtchen parts of Masterchef with the tone of Bake Off.

There's some good characters in the bunch. I feel like Pippa is going to grate on me a bit :eyes:

And wonderful to have Mary Berry back on our screens as always <3

Omg Pippa is gonna be the Flora of this I can tell laugh.gif

I really liked this too! It was a much better effort than that Family Cooking Challenge thing. The male judges are a nice addition for.... certain reasons kink.gif but Mary is fab as always and Claudia. This is kinda like a less pressured Masterchef and I love me some Masterchef.
