16th July 2017
Adam Lambert returns to the top for a second week, pushing off Grace Slick's classic obscurity after only one week on top. UNKLE do a fab Lee Hazelwood impression, plus cinematic arrangement and leapfrog the man himself with his 50-years-old classic. The highest new entry is Galantis, with a killer pop tune and hook. Instant fave, and a return to the top 10 for them, at 7. It's Ave Maria - trip-hop style - in at 10, and just lovely for King Plague, who has a very catchy name - Belaruse female musician apparently, though info is hard to come by. In at 12, 40-years-old, it's an orchestral wonder from John Otway, dating from the time of his first appearance in my chart with Wild Willy Barrett, Really Free. Geneve is still lovely, even without a Willy. Scissor Sisters have had 5 chart-toppers since debuting with one of 'em in 2004, Comfortably Numb, and last made the top 20 in 2012 with Let's Have A Kiki. Good to have them back, albeit guesting. Syml fronts band Barcelona (where I'll be popping through in 2 weeks - the city that is), and hails from Seattle, which accounts for the sultry moody version of the 50's pop classic that recently charted here for the Chordettes, which brings back magic memories of the 50's for me - via Back To The Future of course, I'm not that old! Ditto the current advert-song from Tony Dallara, a fab vintage Italian croon almost as old as The Chordettes. Empire Of The Sun return, and so do Pnau. Nick Littlemore features in both bands. Pnau have topped my charts with their Elton John sampling tracks, and the other Empire member topped my charts as a member of The Sleepy Jackson. There's another Nancy & Lee classic entering (as a Tammy Wynette duet cover they made the definitive version of) - but this one is Tammy covering herself from 1973 with hubbie George Jones, a version that is new to me, a lovely country duet of My Elusive Dreams. 1 2 1 3 TWO FUX Adam Lambert 455000 2 1 1 2 DREAMS Grace Slick 285000 3 26 3 2 LOOKING FOR THE RAIN UNKLE featuring Mark Lanegan & ESKA 103500 4 3 1 5 SUMMER WINE Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazelwood 605000 5 8 5 3 CHINATOWN Liam Gallagher 133000 6 4 4 9 CRYING IN THE CLUB Camila Cabello 356100 7 NEW 7 1 TRUE FEELING Galantis 50000 8 5 3 5 THE MAN The Killers 288000 9 14 9 2 UNFORGETTABLE French Montana featuring Swae Lee 74000 10 NEW 10 1 AVE PLAGUE KING PLAGUE 42000 11 7 1 10 INTO THE FIRE VINAI featuring Anjulie 1092000 12 NEW 12 1 GENEVE John Otway 35000 13 9 5 9 FEEL IT STILL Portugal. Great chart this week! Hi Tombo, thanks for commenting! Despacito is definitely the anthem of 2017, decades to come it will be the song to play to sum up the summer of '17! All 3 of your fave dance tracks have under-performed in the UK charts which is very very unfair! cheers! john |
