Jo Koy was absolutely ABHORRENT as a host. Genuinely one of the worst I have ever seen and his "jokes" were really fucking awful and vile! Imagine (presumably) watching 'Barbie' and then boiling the movie down to being about a "doll with big boobs"... in 2024? GROSS puke.gif

Every category hit exactly where I assumed it would except for Screenplay! 'Anatomy Of A Bore' getting that really throws me off for The Oscars, ngl! However if it wins Screenplay there, can it do enough to get the "Best Picture" win over 'Oppenheimer'? (The Screenplay winners often go hand to hand with the Best Picture winner there... not all the time, but more than not iirc)

What is this shade to Anatomy of a Fall sleep.gif that would be a very worthy winner x

The Box Office award feels like it was made up to give Barbie a film related award, it reminds me a bit of the BRITS Global Success award, what else was gonna win that? :') Hate the Golden Globes, but that's a pretty worthy set of winners, I'd expect the Oscars to look similar (although last year's Best Picture winner didn't win either Best category here so still room for surprises).

Haven't seen 'The Boy And The Heron' yet but Miyazaki having the first anime film to win one of these is great given how much he's achieved as a filmmaker over his life, I must see Suzume even if I do suspect from evey visual I've seen of it that it'll be Your Name part 423 (i.e. good quality but just a coming-of-age story coupled with Shinkai's singular admittedly very beautiful style), Across The Spiderverse could have won it I guess but none of the other animated films should have. Good for the future of anime too.

Good to see a good load of awards going Oppenheimer's way and a few Barbie's elsewise.

Margot missing Lead Actress for Annette Bening and/or Carey Mulligan (the latter is a supporting role imo!) is... quite something. I am happy for Ryan and America though. I love their performances and they're worthy of their nominations for their categories. Greta Gerwig missing for Director also hurts... a LOT. It was so deserved.. ughhhh

I am hoping for a 'The Holdovers' upset for Lead Actor! Paul >>>> Cillian. I do need to see 'American Fiction' though as I've heard Jeffrey is great! No 'Killers...' in any of the screenplay ones. I assume that is thanks to 'Barbie' being in adapted over original ( huh.gif ) thus giving 'May December' a nod in original.... (when it should be 'Barbie' in it's place and 'Killers..' taking the 'Barbie' slot in adapted.

Iron Man vs Hulk in supporting actor cheeseblock.png Both worthy nominees and worthwhile winners! Both highlights of their movies (Downey the absolute highlight & Ruffalo 2nd to Stone!)

Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie being missed out definitely feels a big snub, and eight nominations is good but doesn't feel quite reflective of how much of a cultural phenomenon it was, I guess the brand recognition still impaired it. I don't feel massively strongly (although it doesn't look great that only one female director seems to be ever be able to be up for that award.) While it was a great film, I don't think it's Gerwig's best directed movie nor Robbie's best performance. Saying that, America Ferreira there over her is odd, really should've gone to Julianne Moore for May December (pleased that got something though not quite the right category, Charles Melton also a really undeserved snub).

Yet to see The Zone of Interest, Maestro and American Fiction from the Best Picture nominees, I do definitely intend to see the latter at least, it's a pretty strong and worthy list from what I have seen. Oppenheimer does feel a bit predictable but would be deserved, struggling to really think of what could seriously challenge it.

I mean it's adapted...from a toy kink.gif (have they ever been contradictory about existing IPs counting as original? I'm not sure if it's ever happened before x)

Sam has since informed me that they did the same thing with 'The LEGO Movie'. Had it put in "adapted". It's just odd when it hit "original" in all the other awards but not for this (I hate inconsistency I guess lmaoooo).

Another set of nominations have been released today...

I'm about to post the RAZZIES! tearsmile.gif

Past Lives deserved a best picture nomination sad.gif glad The Holdovers has done well - rooting for that I think but it's definitely Oppenheimer's year.

I am so happy about the America Ferrera nom, that I don't really care about anything else. I know her performance was singled out a lot when the movie was released, but it didn't seem like there was hype leading up to these nominations (she didn't get in at the Globes, BAFTAs) so that was a very nice surprise, especially considering Greta and Margot didn't make it.

Hoping to see The Holdovers this weekend, I'm quite low on the nominees from the major categories right now, only seen Barbie and Poor Things.

I’ve just got out of a free screening for ‘American Fiction’ and through it was great. I’ve well behind on seeing the big films this year but it has good chance of being my favourite of the best picture noms.

I’d love to see Jeffrey Wright win best actor but it’s not looking like it will be possible. Seems to be Cillian Murphy’s to lose with Paul Giamatti having the outside shot.
