BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Quiz: SONG TITLE ANAGRAMS

Posted by: jimwatts 13th March 2021, 05:00 PM

Welcome to the sixth Chart Forum quiz in the current series - Song Title Anagrams!!

Below are 30 anagrams of song titles for you to unscramble. All of these have been in the Top 40 singles chart at some time since 1993 and, aside from maybe a few, should be fairly well-known. The anagrams as they are presented don’t necessarily describe the song or artist (although people might suggest that a few of them do). Punctuation marks (brackets, apostrophes, etc.) can be freely added to or removed from the anagram or the song title.

For example:
FETCH PENTAGON TILES
is an anagram of:
CAN’T STOP THE FEELING! - Justin Timberlake

Points are scored for each correct song title, and the artist alongside each. For bonus points, there is also a very specific theme connecting these songs and a reason they are in this order, for you to guess:

1. SET MINI CHART POSTS
2. PRESIDENT HEALS HAIRDO
3. GOTH SPLIT
4. RINSED THE HOT TRACK
5. ONE ENGINE'S CUBE
6. LATE DISCO TOWN
7. IF I ALARM
8. OPERATE SKIS
9. DAM
10. EAR AND COMB
11. MICHAEL'S BREAKING INTO SONG STILL TOOK IT
12. A WONDER AMONG US
13. MONTHLY SAND TIMING
14. IT'S ITCHY
15. A LANDLADY THING
16. FUNKY LOGOS
17. DIOR TO AIR
18. ENTER UNION CONCERT
19. JOE'S NET HUT
20. SURE HAD FUN, BUT READ
21. AS PUBLIC BARS ARE UNSUNG
22. FLY IN HERE, SLOWLY OPEN WEMBLEY
23. THE LENGTHS OF MY NEW HINGES
24. STRUTH RUTH
25. MADE A-Z
26. I'M VAN, I TOOT
27. DESCENDING SYNTH DATA
28. OUR SLIGO
29. ORGY IN SOUL
30. RECORD OF THE LUNAR DEMON

BONUS: Connection between these songs
BONUS: Order of these songs

Scoring

2 points for each correct song title

1 point for each correct artist, or 0.5 points if partly correct.

In some cases, the same song title will be shared by more than one artist. Only one will completely fit the theme, however if the song of that title by the artist you have given has been in the Top 40 since 1993, even if it does not fit the theme, the artist will score 0.5 points.

If the anagram can unscramble to more than one different song title (unlikely but possible I guess), provided it has been in the Top 40 since 1993, that song title will also score 2 points and the artist will score 0.5 points even if neither fit the theme.

BONUS: Up to 6 points will be awarded for the theme. There are a few specific elements to this, so you will score 1 or 2 points for each of these you mention.

BONUS: 4 points will be awarded for the reason the songs are in this order.

Total scores are out of 100 points magic.gif

As a disclaimer, correct answers are determined by the Official UK Charts as published by the OCC, where all song titles appear exactly as the correct answers here do - with one exception, which has an extra section in brackets as part of the title in the answer here (as appears as that song’s title in other sources such as The Complete Book Of The British Charts).

To enter, please you could fill in the google form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1npD5o-_jEqTjerH-FJgIDN4UqjpDyZ9rSyUV9uT7QnU otherwise PM'ing me is fine too.

If you have any queries on any of this, please comment below and I'll answer them. Deadline for entries is 11.59pm (UK time) on Saturday 20 March and results should follow the next day. Good luck!

I already feel like this is going to ruin my whole week - thanks very much! tongue.gif

Posted by: Mangø 14th March 2021, 12:54 PM

Got about 4 of these on first glance, but I can see that most of them are going to be ridiculously difficult!

Posted by: chrissmith276 15th March 2021, 01:22 PM

Entered!

This took a fair chunk of time and frustration last night (and then subsequently had a terrible night sleep with my brain racing!) and also a lot of scribbling and paper used!

A VILE RAG MOANS

This is certainly one where you get rewarded for putting more time into it! I'm yet to decide whether this is a good or bad thing though tongue.gif

Posted by: Mangø 15th March 2021, 10:55 PM

Got about half of these now and I'm fairly sure I've got the connection dance.gif no idea about the reason they're in that order though, maybe that'll become apparent if/when I get a few more. It's the longer ones that I'm really struggling with!

Posted by: JulianT 16th March 2021, 01:07 AM

I’ve only got 8/30 so far and they’re all ones that are under 10 letters. And I can see that those all have something in common but it’s not a narrow enough theme to help me get any others. I’ll definitely need all week for this one!

How do I enter this?

This is too hard!

Haven't had time to look at it but looks like I'd need 3 months to do the biggrin.gif can the deadline be extended to June or something? biggrin.gif

Posted by: Mangø 18th March 2021, 09:34 AM

I spent an hour on this last night and I think I've cracked all the ones I'm gonna get!

Posted by: CJK 18th March 2021, 12:28 PM

I have managed to solve 1 of these a day... which will give a good idea of how many I'm likely to get within the week!!

Posted by: StoneDragon 18th March 2021, 02:25 PM

These make my brain hurt - I've worked out quite a few but some I'm completely stumped by or I'm not sure are actual songs!

If you want to give some or all of these a go, you have until tomorrow night.

SO LAME tongue.gif

Posted by: Dexton 20th March 2021, 05:43 AM

I started off so well and it just got harder and harder!

Posted by: jimwatts 20th March 2021, 06:03 PM

I know some of you have this in the pipeline, but just a heads up that there are 6 hours until the deadline to enter!

Posted by: coi 20th March 2021, 09:52 PM

Entered. This took ages but eventually got through a decent amount of them in the end I think, the long anagrams are impossible laugh.gif

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 20th March 2021, 09:52 PM

Entered! Wish I could have got more but that's the way it goes, glad I at least got (some part of) the theme although the order is still annoying me!

Posted by: CJK 20th March 2021, 09:59 PM

Entered. Did as badly as I expected to.

Posted by: Jade 20th March 2021, 10:15 PM

Entered! Left this way too late but more than 0 is enough for me laugh.gif

Posted by: jimwatts 21st March 2021, 12:27 AM

The deadline has now passed, but I will still accept entries until late morning.

As it stands we have 16 participants, which is already more than I had expected. As this was a particularly time-consuming quiz for many of you, I have decided to forfeit my host compensation points (on the series leaderboard) as I don't feel I should be awarded more points than any of you for your efforts on this round.

Posted by: jimwatts 21st March 2021, 12:33 AM

I will also accept any new or changed answers from those already submitted, if you can get these to me by late morning too!

Posted by: chrissmith276 21st March 2021, 06:05 AM

Looking forward to results - zero clue on the order of the songs haha!

Posted by: Bjork 21st March 2021, 08:54 AM

Cannot wait for the results
I love watching shows like Countdown so kinda used to this
I actually think it's easier with the longer ones, you just need to find a key word
also there are not that many song titles that are that long

That's a very magnanimous gesture!

Thank you to the 17 participants. This is now closed to entries or changes - the results will follow this afternoon, see you then!
