Hello, if anyone could care to lend a hand, I’m trying to compile a comprehensive list of fallen music legends whose songs and albums went on to inspire a generation. These can be from any time era and of any genre. What they achieved in their career, however short or long, will be told in the form of a playlist I am working on to capture as many names as possible, no limits to the numbers. If I am being strict though I guess you could say I’m only interested in names that have had an influence on the UK charts, be that singles or albums, and who most would identify them or a piece of music that they released in their lifetime. Posthumous hits are not really what I’m looking for at this stage. Also, they can be solo artists of part of a group.

So if anyone can help by nominating any name they feel deserves to be included in this project for their contributions to music that are no longer alive then please do post names in this thread for me, and hopefully in time I can present a playlist of their greatest hits.

Thanks all.

Edit:
I’ll collate all the names suggested in this thread into an easy to find list here for future reference…

Excellent start Dobbo, I’ll make a list in the opening post of all the names suggested in this thread to avoid duplication.

Leonard Cohen, he is the one that opened the door for singer-songwriters, without him people like Damien Rice, David Gray, or even my beloved Ed Sheeran wouldn't exist.
