Meghan has revealed that her first single from her upcoming album is coming soon

Posted by: Mack. 13th February 2018, 11:26 PM

It'll be interesting to see how she does when she releases new material. Wasn't a fan of 'All About That Bass' probably one of few on here. Rest of her songs were good. Intrigued.

Posted by: cqmerqn 13th February 2018, 11:30 PM

She’ll flop of course

She’ll flop of course

Why is this so certain? ohmy.gif I don't think many people expected her to have a hit from a second album, or even any hits beyond All About That Bass but she's actually done remarkably well since! tongue.gif

I think, with the right song, she could get a hit again. It really does depend on what sound she goes for though! I'm excited anyway, NO was her best to date so something of that quality please.

Posted by: cqmerqn 13th February 2018, 11:35 PM

I think she’s in Iggy’s category now.

NO was a hit in the US but struggled a little bit here.

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 13th February 2018, 11:36 PM

Also worth mentioning that Me Too was a top 15 hit in the US, unbelievably! Plus it seems to be Simon Cowell's favourite song considering it's X Factor UK usage :')

Posted by: UltraReputation 13th February 2018, 11:59 PM

At last *.*

I know probably about 3 people on this site agree with me but I adore both of her albums so much <3 Title is still incredible and Thank You is one of the most underrated albums in ages and is a great pop album. I'm so hyped to see what Meghan brings with this era. heart.gif

Posted by: Midge 14th February 2018, 12:47 AM

Loved "No", bit more indifferent about the rest of her material. Intrigued though.

All of her singles (bar Better) have gone Top 10 in Australia too, so it looks like it’s just the UK which under appreciated her a bit laugh.gif I’m sort of looking forward to this because NO/Me Too/I Love Me were bops , although I wasn’t too keen on much else tongue.gif

Posted by: Frooot 14th February 2018, 05:41 AM

Me Too deserves better worldwide, top five on US iTunes but it was on no Spotify playlists! Kindly Calm Me Down deserved to be a single though.....

Posted by: Jüpiter 14th February 2018, 06:28 AM

What's her brand tho now she's no longer All About the Bass?
Tbh I would expect a backlash from the public when she comes back skinny. Even if the music is good.

Posted by: SGrey 14th February 2018, 07:05 AM

Her debut was easily one of the best albums released the first half of this decade. Bop after bop and I really don’t agree with some of the backlash she got over lyrics! Second album not as good but some moments such as Woman Up/Me Too so I’m excited for what’s next! cheer.gif

Posted by: Jack 14th February 2018, 02:12 PM

Her last album was SO good. I really hope she manages to surprise and gets a hit!

Me Too and No were her best ever.

Posted by: UltraReputation 17th February 2018, 06:16 PM

She's performing on Ellen on Friday the 2nd March so we'll be getting the new single either this Friday or next Friday! cheer.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 23rd February 2018, 12:32 AM

It's called no excuses!

I'm so ready 😍

Posted by: Tombo 23rd February 2018, 10:09 AM

I hope it's good, the title is good!

Posted by: cqmerqn 24th February 2018, 09:46 PM

It’s coming Thursday 1st March!

Posted by: cqmerqn 27th February 2018, 08:49 PM

It sounds OK...

Posted by: cqmerqn 28th February 2018, 08:48 PM

Insta added to R2 and Capital!

Posted by: SGrey 1st March 2018, 06:08 AM

The styling and sound from the video snippet on her Insta story reminds me of her debut already! ohmy.gif

Posted by: UltraReputation 1st March 2018, 01:02 PM

This is SO GOOD. What a bop 😍😍

It's so short though, only two and a half minutes!

Posted by: UltraReputation 1st March 2018, 01:08 PM

Posted by: indielife 1st March 2018, 01:09 PM

Oh this chubby girl, I like some of her songs like "Dear my future husband", so looking forward to this album too!

Posted by: Jack 1st March 2018, 01:25 PM

This is SO good and so instant. Only criticism is that the song is a little bit too short but I really love it. Excited for more wub.gif

Posted by: Klumzee 1st March 2018, 02:04 PM

Really instant! I think it sounds very fresh without chasing any trends going on at the moment which is pretty impressive. It is nearly all chorus though which is both a good thing and bad thing laugh.gif Think this will be a very easy hit - I'd imagine Capital/Kiss/Heart will add it instantly and Radio 1 should do in their own time!

Posted by: Cameron 1st March 2018, 02:10 PM

Ohh this is like Want U Back meets Sax

Already 100% better than her second era bar Me Too

Posted by: Juliano 1st March 2018, 03:01 PM

Wow! She brought the one man party to my lounge!!

Posted by: Dexton 1st March 2018, 03:12 PM

Reminded me a bit of Lady Marmalade on first listen, it’s very basic pop but it’s not too bad. NO & Me Too were much better

Edit: Or Kelly Clarkson’s Walk Away, which is what I originally meant but got them mixed up somehow laugh.gif

Posted by: Cody Rippon 1st March 2018, 04:23 PM

Okay this is INSANELY catchy

Posted by: jjake 1st March 2018, 04:40 PM

this is f***ing terrible...2m30 for a lead single? could she not be arsed to construct a proper song?!

Posted by: Joe. 1st March 2018, 04:42 PM

Awful as expected.

Posted by: Ryan. 1st March 2018, 04:48 PM

Sounds like a single from the “Get Weird” era, very good!!

Posted by: Cucumberella 1st March 2018, 06:35 PM

why does she insist on singing like she's black????

aside from that, it's catchy. it is an inferior olivia holt - generous tho

I'm offended for Little Mix. sleep.gif

It's infectious, but I don't think I like it? :/ I'm so confused as to how I feel about it tbh. I feel like she is a popstar who got to where she is by accident. Was hoping it'd be a progression from her, but it's pretty much more of the same. sad.gif

Think I'll stick with 'No' & 'Like I'm Gonna Lose You'.

That's exactly how I always describe her!

It's not bad, I feel like it's the perfect length for how repetitive it is.

Posted by: Jüpiter 1st March 2018, 07:15 PM

First listen: a little dull and seems unfinished. Sounds like a soundtrack song on a Disney film or something like Trolls.

Posted by: Liаm 1st March 2018, 07:36 PM

She is very random annoying girl in your office who did karaoke and won the chance to record a single ad tells everyone about it at every opportunity lmao

This is kind of a bop tho, No remains glorious.

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 1st March 2018, 07:38 PM

NO remains her best for me, what an absolute anthem wub.gif This is pretty solid, I think I'll be revisiting it a lot and I'm delighted she's got instant support!

I see all the people who sat oh MTrain have come out in oure adoration. laugh.gif

Posted by: Frooot 1st March 2018, 09:07 PM

She actually looks amazing! She’s looking so good!

This is actually pretty good, I just don’t ever think she will ever reach the heights that her label want her too though, she needs to have that moment where she looks like an A GAME popstar and her presence always seems to let her down.

Kindly Calm Me Down to make this album plz

Posted by: Jüpiter 1st March 2018, 09:28 PM

How is she going to perform All About That Bass in the future though when she's skinny? Didn't think that one through

Posted by: Jack 1st March 2018, 10:11 PM

I find Meghan hate so boring, she's so easy to hate on.

Insta add on Radio 1!

Posted by: RobS 2nd March 2018, 08:22 AM

this might need a couple more listens as it's not hitting me straight away. good to see she's still releasing her usual pop sounding songs tho.

Posted by: SGrey 2nd March 2018, 11:45 AM

People moaning about the length of this just goes to show how people will go to any extent to moan! laugh.gif

Not really. It IS a short song lol. So it's not "people going to any extent to moan". laugh.gif

Posted by: SGrey 2nd March 2018, 12:54 PM

Why does length matter though? Lots of artists have intros and interludes which are short but doesn't make them any less enjoyable than tracks which are longer?

Posted by: Jonjo 2nd March 2018, 05:28 PM

2 and a half minutes is unusually short for a lead pop single though. People just want to enjoy it for longer I guess. It's not really moaning more than just wishing it had an extra verse or middle 8 or something to give it a longer running time and enjoying it more

It's a common theme with songs that are shorter than your typical 3 and a half/4 minute pop songs you enjoy to wish they were a little longer so you could enjoy more of it.

But honestly, it's not really an issue laugh.gif It's just I don't think it's fair to say people are moaning just coz they wish it was longer laugh.gif

Posted by: Frooot 2nd March 2018, 05:41 PM

I like the song but for a comeback and a lead single for a popstar who's meant to be one of the most notiable female popstars, I just think it's a bit weak and it's nowhere near the level of standard she should be at. The chorus could have been a bit longer but in general it's not a song that sounds like it's going to be a smash, 'No' and 'Me Too' are miles ahead of this and I think this is my least favourite single by her. It's good, just not good enough. It's not strong enough to lead the album which has a release date of June but it's performance on iTunes isn't really encouraging either.

SHE LOOKS AMAZING THOUGH.

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef 2nd March 2018, 05:58 PM

Length doesn't matter.

But ... the song is not great.

Not entirely unusual - if you look at Love So Soft, Wannabe and Boss they're both of a similar length give or take 15-20 seconds and are still enjoyable as lead singles in pop.

There are posts in this thread which critique over length who didn't like the track so I don't think they'd want it to be longer would they?

I just feel with Meghan (and I'd classify myself as a casual fan) that anything she puts her name to or does, will instantly receive a majority criticism in the similar way Jessie J does.

Posted by: Joe. 2nd March 2018, 06:35 PM

It's not a big unknown reaction for someone to be disappointed that a song is shorter than they'd like. It doesn't mean the song can't still be good.

Posted by: Tombo 2nd March 2018, 07:47 PM

This is a cute song, I really like it! I hope it can be a hit for her!

It isn't but I don't understand how it can be suggested that you can dislike the song and it's length and then want it to be longer so you can enjoy it? It doesn't make sense.

It's been out less than 24 hours and just because it's got support in that time doesn't mean it's going to be an instant hit and it's currently 48 on iTunes. drama.gif rolleyes.gif

Posted by: danG 3rd March 2018, 11:30 AM

Not listened to this yet, but on the length issue I think as time goes on we're going to start seeing more shorter singles in the chart because they're more repeat friendly on streaming. It's happening a fair bit in urban/rap and starting to cross over to pop now too. The Bazzi single that's getting big now is only 2:13 for example. Chris Brown 'Questions' and Lil Pump 'Gucci Gang' were similarly short too. Better for the artist you listen to a 2 minute song twice than a 4 minute song once. It's not a trend I like either by the way.

Posted by: Jack 3rd March 2018, 11:42 AM

It's quite sad how the public aren't here for her really. Not Top 200 on Spotify or Top 50 on iTunes for a lead comeback single when someone like XXXTentacion can get Top 50 on Spotify with v little promo. It could of course change and I'm not going to write it off completely but it is disheartening to see it off to such a poor start.

Not being shady but...why would they be? She's done no promo as far as I'm aware and she's not exactly A-list in the UK, plus she's not from the UK either.
She's just not got the platform. Presumably if she gets promo, radio support, a viral hit etc. then she'll see a turnaround.

Well she's had a bit of buzz around her and has had instant support from radio. To not even be Top 200 on Spotify upon release I would say is disappointing, most fairly established artists manage that.

How is it a huge flop after twenty four hours? It's not performed up to MY expectations in the UK but how is it a huge flop considering it was only released yesterday and airplay has just started laugh.gif

It's also very close to #2 on USA iTunes, Spotify is a bit of a disaster but maybe her label will start payola shortly!

Posted by: cqmerqn 3rd March 2018, 04:49 PM

I just think that with ‘bigger artists’, they tend to peak quicker than smaller artists. You can usually tell how a song by a big artist will perform within the first few days.

Especially with the way the charts work too. Forgive me, but coming from the poster who thought New Rules was rubbish, claimed that NR wouldn't be "quite that big" and labels everything a flop unless it charts top 40 straight away, I won't quite agree with your predictions at the moment until proved otherwise.

Currently #47 UK iTunes and #3 US iTunes!

Speaking as someone who used to post quite regularly on this site, said comments are deterring myself from posting because they are so tiring, not just here but in the wider areas of the forum too.

Sean has a point here. In the US she’s coming back off of whatever momentum she still had after Better flopped (which I didn’t think would be any) and yet she’s still holding up after 24 hours. Radio seems to have latched onto this as well. It’s welcoming and shows she’s still got something left.

I really feel like she's done incredibly well to extend her 15 minutes so far and still even be a going concern nearly 4 years after she debuted.

I am pretty sure her last album overall did pretty shoddy.

Posted by: Liаm 4th March 2018, 02:21 AM

Yeah I really can't see what the expectations supposedly were for this? laugh.gif I think it was more that she had some momentum for her first era because of AATB, the next couple of singles were similar enough to that but different enough to not get lost amongst it. No was a bit of a fluke because it was a genuinely good pop song I feel, she really doesn't have that name power so naturally this was hardly going to instantly smash.

Posted by: SGrey 4th March 2018, 07:47 AM

Agreed! She’s definitely stayed longer than anyone would have expected after All About That Bass - Lips are Movin’, No and to some extent Me Too were decently sized to help shake off the one hit wonder label. Just a question of when and if her 15 minutes will end..

Posted by: jamemixer. 4th March 2018, 09:41 AM

Where do you think this will chart?

Posted by: Frooot 6th March 2018, 12:00 AM

Still bombing on Spotify worldwide but it’s holding up well in the United States, it’s currently top five on iTunes and increasing! I can see this being another top 10 hit in the US, still not sure how it will do worldwide but Spotify Payola is required as Meghan really seems to do well with outside her fanbase!

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 6th March 2018, 08:06 AM

Meghan is on SLFN in a few weeks, so I'm assuming she'll perform this. Hopefully it gives it a boost.

Posted by: Juliano 6th March 2018, 11:52 PM

I must say this is a much better comeback than I was expecting! Which is kind of why I want to see it do well.

Posted by: Frooot 8th March 2018, 02:16 PM

Still at #1 on USA iTunes with a decent enough lead, so it should debut top three in digital songs! Apparently the reason for the Spotify snub is due to her releasing ‘Thank You’ on Apple Music as an exclusive! It’s so petty because the general public are obviously here for the song and it’s still increasing in the UK also!

Meghan? I thought her name is "No"?

I don't get the hate for her from pop fans.
She delivers great and fun performances, her vocals are very good, she's bubbly and the song is a pop bop.

She’s like Taylor Swift... it’s ‘cool’ to hate her.

A shame it's cool to hate them, but it's cool to like people as problematic as Chris Brown and Justin Bieber. We love blatant sexism sad.gif.

Who called the social justice brigade?

Bieber was uncool for years before the Purpose era and in some circles he still is

How can someone have an incorrect opinion?

Because people quite often like to refer to their opinion to state incorrect facts, hoping to get away with it.

"In my opinion, the Earth is flat." laugh.gif

It's such a shame that Spotify have snubbed her due to her premiering 'Thank You' on Apple Music, 'Me Too' was snubbed from almost every playlist despite being top three on USA iTunes for almost a month.

I don't know what's going to happen with this campaign, it's actually very steady on USA iTunes (#16 atm) but It's non existent spotify features and it's poor airplay will probably lead to the album being delayed even though it's completed.

Mess, it deserves so much more! It is an incredible song!

TBH Epic released 5Hs album after ‘down’ so she should be okay. Their waiting for the 2nd single for the album anyway (I think)

Her US label are truly appalling.

'No Excuses' is still top twenty on iTunes and has basically refused to leave the top 20 on USA iTunes since it's release despite no Spotify promotion and incredibly limited airplay, she would currently be #12 on iTunes had it not been for the new releases today which is a great achievement, if her label bothered to discount 'No Excuses' then this would fly back into the top 10 on iTunes and hopefully help push for a top 40 peak on the Billboard.

It's great that it has held up so long, it is a really good song biggrin.gif
