I won't have time to read it - I go back to work on Friday but this first page of the introduction is RW to a tee I think - and why I'm a fan of the man not just the performer we see on stage:
Before anything else, here's a story about a song he recently tried to write. It may seem, to begin with, quite a dark story, because it is one in which he is unsparing about his frustrations and his shortcomings and his failures, as he himself briefly recaps his own life story in a most brutal and bleak way. It serves as a good introduction to one side of who he is, and to the churning cauldron of doubts and obstacles that fill his head. But it's a story in which, by following and facing those fears, somehow he will discover something magical. it spoils nothing to come in this book if I point out, at the very start, that this will be happening, in small ways and large, over and over again. There are no happy endings in lives that are still being lived, because we all remain vulnerable to capricious fortune and our own frailties. But if on one level this book is the ongoing chronicle of a troubled man's quest for the rich life the world already assumes he has, then even if this account dwells at least as much on the struggles as the triumphs, that shouldn't cloud the news that for the most part these days his quest s going extraordinarily well. Today Rob is at RAK studios in London with the songwriter Johnny McDaid. Johnny has suggested that Rob speaks over some music, some of the pitilessly, truthful stuff he's been sharing. No one ever needs to hear it. Rob agrees to try. "I'm jealous and petty and insecure, and over sensitive, under educated. I think my success is a glitch in the matrix. and, oh yeah, it hurts way more than it should do when you call me fat, talentless, embarrassing. Because maybe what you're saying is what I think about myself. and I wouldn't treat anybody the way I treat me. I can name all my faults so easily. and trying to stay positive is so hard. There is no escape. Well actually, my vulnerability has been my strength. I've achieved what I've achieved because of it. And I did it all because I thought I couldn't." I love Chris Heath's style of writing. He has such a wonderful way with words.
Love this bit too - still in the introduction. it talks about when he stepped away from the spot light 2006-2009. How even though in his mind he had stopped being a pop star, he continued to write, and then he came back: "So he writes because he writes. But even so, as he discovered when he did return, if you are a successful pop star for long enough, then there are certain pressures that change over time, and that grow and grow. There is a magical time in successful pop careers where you're just free wheeling, where everything you do seems to work effortlessly, where it seems as though each time you whisper even the simplest word, the whole world's ear listens. Song after song seems to hit the universal spot, and for a while you almost don't know how to miss. And then one day, almost as though some random cog in some distant celestial mechanism has clicked into another setting, it stops. This happens to everybody, however talented, however famous. there are no exceptions. From then on, great success and acclaim and riches may continue to flow, but it will never again be as easy as it once was. " I think RW understands this better than a lot of his fans to be honest. |

Read a piece where he talks about David Bowie & what Bowie said about him . I often think that Robbie should stop questioning his own success & just accept it for what it is & ignore what others have to say about it

That is inside him. |

Where are you up to? I have read quite a lot of it actually , it's the kind of book that you can pick up & leave down at any time & not really matter if you forget where you last read , the reason being is that it keeps going back & forth between the years so no real flow to it. I was most interested in the relationship between Guy & Robbie how it still works even after all they have been through, cannot have been easy for either of them given all that went on & I think they both very much still do the tippy-toe stuff around one another . I think they are more mature these days than to let what they could perceive as slights develop into something else . I have not yet found where Josie left & how that happened, maybe it's not mentioned |

She was such a big part of his life wasn't she? Robbie has a habit of falling out with people, especially those who do not agree with him , I wonder if that is what happened with Josie , did she just decide to move on , there is no reference to her leaving & no mention of Jonny W in more recent years . Robbie has no problems separating business from pleasure , has he paid a price along the way though , those are the thoughts I was mainly left with after reading this book . Have you read much of it Laura ...what did you think of it Elisabeth or did you read the book The best thing that has happened to him was meeting Ayda & having a family , I am really happy that he met somebody that really care about him |

I read it really quickly Tess but not properly - I need time to sit down and digest it. But I haven't got time. Christmas has come and gone and I'm back at work.
One day I will get round to it properly. One thing I did think was - with social media these days - he tells a lot of this stuff anyway. He shares his feelings openly all the time. I don't think there was one thing in the book that surprised me or that I couldn't remember happening in real time. He shares everything either on Upfront or via Ayda's Insta now so we almost don't need a book to update us on what he's doing. Those of us who follow him already know. |

I didn't think it would happen for him as he lead such a chaotic lifestyle - but his happiness in his personal life if the best thing ever. Makes me very, very happy for him. |

I thought of reading this book again recently , I never got through it the first time I am ashamed to say, I did not really like the way it was written by Chris Heath & could not just get into it the first time around . I am ready now to give it another go I think .
I was reading some interesting reviews on Goodreads.com https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35436641-reveal |
