It really isn't a good bunch, I only have two of them on my Eurovision playlist and I'd happily never hear most of them again. The fact I have LENA so high should be evidence enough as to how bad everything else is.

I think most of these are great! Although the weakest four are the most recent four so maybe it was a trend that ended up dying off. The first six are all great.

Oro is genuinely an amazing composition of its own right regardless of the 'host entry' tag. It's not exactly a stellar bunch and I only REALLY care for the top three ('Taken By A Stranger' is a bit overrated IMO) but I don't actively dislike any of them (that damn Frans song grew on me dammit!).

Austria is a total dud. Mamo I'm not THAT fond of as a song, but the performance was an iconic mess, Didrik rather on the dull side.

(that damn Basim song grew on me dammit!)

The last Ukrainian host entry was really significant, I mean, you don't often get songs that are the literal anthem of a revolution on the Eurovision stage.



I also like it. As opposed to considering it the red-headed stepchild of Ukrainian entries. I kinda hope they've got something similarly meaningful up their sleeves.

Oh, and For Real is awesome.



I miss Turkey a lot sometimes.

And of course Hello From Mars, one of the early Latvian epics and one of those early-00s Eurovision songs that sticks with me really well. Almost as good as Brainstorm.



They can be good as the song can be a celebration that the country's just won, Greenjolly, Anastasia & Didrik felt like that especially (and for the latter two felt like a real expression of otherwise-repressed Russian personality for Mamo and made what could have been a dull ballad really sweet instead for My Heart Is Yours).

I'll take Germany 2011 all the way. Sweden 2013 is "OK", the rest are varying degrees of woeful. That Norwegian entry from 2010 was a particular low point... rather like the 2010 contest itself.
