Saw a trailer for this before Swiss Army Man this weekend and I thought it looked pretty good. I'd seen it on a few Oscar predictions lists but it didn't jump out at me until I saw this trailer, seems to be a pretty interesting story and the acting looks stellar too.

25th November in the UK, 17th February in US

(So I think that also might make this ineligible for the Oscars.)

In that case it would be ineligible for the Oscars, hope they see sense after some early predictions and bring the US release in line with the UK release date. As I imagine it could be largely forgotten by the time Osars 2018 roll around.

No way they are leaving this out of awards season!!!

Maybe they will do a limited release on December before expanding the same way the did last year with The Revenant.

I'm not too sure tbh because the American release date was only announced last week (though they could do a Live By Night and announce a last minute Christmas expansion)

They're probably just testing the waters to see if it'd be worth pushing for this year or not. It's already looking incredibly strong!

A powerful movie, very well acted. Shame if they're not giving it a US release in time to make it eligible for the Oscars but the theme is similar to Loving? I'm not sure where it would've fit in, David Oyelowo was great but then he was snubbed for Selma. I expect it will get some BAFTA recognition.

I enjoyed this but I'm not entirely sure it would get (m)any Oscar nominations if it was moved into a slot before the New Year in the US anyway, everything about it was solid but I'm not sure it will be in my top 5 in any category once I've seen them all. The two leads were very good but if David Oyelowo couldn't get a nom for Selma then he probably won't for this and Rosamund Pike was probably my favourite part about it but not sure it would be able to be nominated in such a tough field of women this year. There were some very powerful moments in it, my favourite probably being Seretse's sister first meeting Ruth and then them feeling they had completely misjudged the situation and how accepting the inhabitants of Bechuanaland were going to be. I also loved the moment when they pretty much had Alistair Canning cornered with all the evidence which was a very satisfying moment. Overall I found this a solid movie but I hope/think there will be plenty better movies still to come this awards season.

Thought this was great but was just your average pretty good drama with strong performances!

9/10
