Not sure if there's rules of how far in advance you can open a movie thread, but some exciting news regarding the 24th Bond film was revealed today.

Oscar-winning Django Unchained star Christoph Waltz has been confirmed to play the role of Ernst Stavro Blofeld!!

Can't wait for this. Didn't realise a release date had been set – was saying to a friends just this weekend that I hoped there would be a new Bond film soon! Christoph Waltz is a marvellous actor so I'm sure he'll not tarnish the character.

Posted by: liamk97 24th November 2014, 05:16 PM

I think it's release date has only recently been officially confirmed - I think it may have had an estimated date of September, then pushed back to December before the present date.

Less than a year to wait now! It's going to be a mammoth task living up to Skyfall but with Sam Mendes returning as director and Christoph Waltz having a main role (who my mum says is brilliant) shows very good signs. I'm excited as ever to know who will be singing the Bond theme - I heard a lot wanted Adele to return but I'd like someone else to have a chance first.

Posted by: Cremey 24th November 2014, 05:28 PM

I have really high hopes for it and like you say, it had better not be a letdown after how great Skyfall was.!Quantum of Solace was so disappointing after Casino Royale so hopefully it won't be a similar situation with this one. I'd rather a different artist sang the theme tune too, Adele did a great job with Skyfall but it would be great for someone else to be given the opportunity.

Posted by: liamk97 24th November 2014, 07:14 PM

Agreed, Quantum of Solace was a bit of a let down. I found it didn't have a strong enough plot and it seemed to be too much of a sequel to Casino Royale whereas all the other Bond films worked as stand alone films. I remember being a bit lost/bored when watching in the cinema and my opinion hasn't really changed that much since.

I haven't a clue who I would like to do the next Bond theme. There's been so many who have had Bond-esque songs or voices that would suit a powerful Bond theme but none of those names are coming to me! I'm sure whoever it is will do a great job though.

Never heard of Christoph Waltz, but I'm looking forward to the new movie, the latest I heard title wise "Devil May Care", I think the title was dropped. I do agree with Quantum of Solace was not the best, Skyfall will be difficult to top. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam Smith will be approached for the title track, but I wouldn't mind an Indie act to take the helm for once, Florence & The Machine would be a firm favourite with me.

Yeah, Sam Smith came to my mind as someone who may be approached, or perhaps Emeli Sande since she's releasing a new album in 2015. How a Bond theme would work for them though, I'm not sure. Florence + the Machine on the other hand, I could definitely see perform a successful Bond theme.

Mikey have you never seen Inglorious Basterds or Django Unchained!?

Christopher Waltz is fabulous casting if true. Could definitely see him being nominated for Best Supporting Actor by the Academy...

I would love and think Paloma Faith could do a justice to Bond theme!!!

The other choise is Lana Del Rey but then she already did so many soundtracks...

Good choices! I think either of them would be capable of doing a brilliant job.

Bond 24 title revealed as Spectre, Christoph Waltz joins cast
By Emma Dibdin
Thursday Dec 4 2014

The next James Bond film will be titled Spectre.

Christoph Waltz will play a character named Oberhauser in the Sam Mendes-directed film, which will see Daniel Craig star as Bond for the fourth time.

The rest of the new cast includes Léa Seydoux (Blue Is the Warmest Colour) as Madeleine Swann, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, Guardians of the Galaxy's David Bautista as Mr Hinx and Sherlock star Andrew Scott as Denbigh.

Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear will reprise their roles from Skyfall.

"A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organisation," reads the official plot synopsis from EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

"While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE."

In an announcement from Pinewood Studios on Thursday morning (December 4), Mendes confirmed that the movie will shoot in London, Rome, Mexico City, Morocco and Austria.

Mendes also revealed Bond's sleek new Aston Martin, the DB10, created exclusively for Spectre.

Principal photography on Spectre will start this Monday (December 8).

There have been strong rumours in recent weeks that Academy Award winner Waltz could be playing a classic villain from the Bond canon.

Spectre will be released on November 6, 2015 in cinemas around the world.

Liking the new Bond car! *.*

Monica Bellucci is still so fit. Took me a while to twig where I recognised her from - she is unbelievable for her age!

Great cast list. I don wonder if Bautista will be playing Jaws. Or not.

Posted by: Santa Martin 4th December 2014, 06:14 PM

Great cast, loving the title, biggrin.gif got a gut feeling that won't be the title track for the theme though, they might end up going the same route as Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, Spectre doesn't really stick out as a song title.

Screen poster, its probably not official yet

First look pics of Spectre:

I'm in London next Monday so hopefully they're still filming then!

Sam Smith is rumoured to be getting the theme for the Bond film, not official yet, announced by Jameela on Radio 1

Posted by: liamk97 4th January 2015, 10:00 PM

Was expected! I'm sure that won't please many but it wouldn't just be a piano ballad if its for a Bond theme. I'm a fan of his anyway so I'd definitely welcome him taking on a Bond song.

Teaser trailer is now out there.

Not big on the James Bond films at all though, personally. Although Christoph Waltz is REALLY reeling me in to watching this one.

Posted by: Mart!n 17th April 2015, 08:51 AM

Seen the trailer for this at the beginning of F&F7, its looking good, very impressive, I really can't wait, I knew it was going to be a tough act to follow Skyfall, looks like they have exceeded that.

I can't see Daniel Craig carried on though after his fifth outing, you can see he is ageing quite a bit. I think he is only committed to another Bond movie though after Spectre.

Posted by: liamk97 20th July 2015, 12:40 PM

Okay so the premiere of Spectre is now 26 October in London and will be released in cinemas the same day: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a658913/james-bond-movie-spectre-opens-in-uk-on-october-26-the-day-of-its-world-premiere.html#~piZ7MK4wUkkkeI

We've apparently not got long to find out who is singing the new Bond theme. Ellie Goulding is the #1 favourite atm: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/news/a659086/spectre-bond-movies-theme-song-is-recorded-and-its-singer-will-be-announced-soon.html#~piZ7tKONyUoWlg

Posted by: J▼hnkm 20th July 2015, 01:45 PM

Ellie would be amazing, but I have a horrific feeling it's going to be Sam Smith.

Posted by: liamk97 20th July 2015, 02:23 PM

I'm sure I read that Sam confirmed himself he wasn't doing it (and he apparently let it slip that its Ellie). I like Sam and think he'd do a good job, but Ellie could do something really magical if its Halcyon meets Bond.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 20th July 2015, 03:08 PM

Sam would HONK and SCREECH his way over anything. He could make Goldfinger sound like nails down a blackboard, so if that's true, excellent.

Speaking of theme songs, this is Digital Spy's ranking of all the Bond themes: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/feature/a659194/a-non-definitive-ranking-of-every-james-bond-theme-from-worst-to-best.html#~piZF8UUpsyrzLG

The biggest injustice is 'Tomorrow Never Dies' appearing at #14. Like, seriously? 'You Know My Name' should be higher too.

Ellie Goulding that is quite a catch for a Bond theme, I think she can pull it off biggrin.gif I hope so, 2 soundtrack themes under her belt for 2015 getting the Bond theme to #1 will be a great achievement.

That DS list is BS. Moonraker is a JOY. The only thing they got right was putting the perennially underrated License To Kill top 10 (and the ABYSMAL Another Way To Die last).

I would concur, actually. Pleasingly this seems more in line with Skyfall than the other 2 Craig ones (which, to be fair, I did expect this time).

She was meant to/favourite to do it back in 2008 I think. Her along with Duffy. Then the Alicia Keys and Jack White collab seemed to come out of nowhere (and to this date, people are wanting to kick it back wherever it may have come from).

Theme title "Writing's On The Wall"

Posted by: J▼hnkm 8th September 2015, 10:32 PM

I, on the other hand, am not pleased. Even if the song is good he has absolutely no ability to sing a song and not manage to mangle every syllable.

Apparently going to be the longest ever Bond film at 2 hours 40 minutes: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/movies/news/a668360/is-spectre-the-longest-bond-movie-yet-prepare-for-a-2-hour-40-minute-running-time.html#~pohaK2ezQ5CgFU

Posted by: Josh. 14th September 2015, 03:37 PM

Oh...err if it's really that long I really don't see how it'll be enjoyable drama.gif

I even got a little bit restless during Furious 7 and that was pure action all the way through!

Posted by: liamk97 14th September 2015, 03:56 PM

It is a long time-length but given the article says it's 10 minutes or so longer than 'Casino Royale' and 'Skyfall', which I loved all the way through, I don't think it'll matter to me too much.

Posted by: Soy Adrián 14th September 2015, 03:59 PM

That's 20 minutes longer than Age of Ultron, which sounds like rather a lot.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 14th September 2015, 05:07 PM

It all depends if the movie WARRANTS the length or not. Skyfall did, Casino Royale did not. Age of Ultron certainly didn't. In general 2h40 is too long for me though, so it does have its work cut out to hold my interest.

I don't believe any of these rumours of a new James Bond. Daniel Craig is still contracted to one more film which will probably be released in 2018 at the earliest so, given he's 44 now, I doubt Damian Lewis will be the next Bond.

It wasn't as good as Skyfall. In fact I was quite disappointed. The plot was a bit lacking and I was expecting some kind of twist or reveal that didn't really happen. Also, Moneypenny was criminally underused and I had to listen to Sam Smith's Bond theme in full.

Skyfall was excellent though, so I suppose it's not too surprising Spectre couldn't topple it. I've watched all Bond films and am a huge fan so maybe I'll be a bit more inclined to like it? What were the stunts like, given they were all real? Were they as impressive as we're lead to believe? Don't spoil the plot though! tongue.gif

there were of course some great sequences, especially the opening - (though some of the helicopter parts looked very obviously green screened). There's a sequence on a train which is very tense and well done. I'll say no more.

Apparently there's a helicopter spin which only a couple of people in the world are trained to do which was completely real, was it that? Ooh, I'm getting all excited about that train sequence! I remember getting such an adrenaline rush during the build-up and actual courtroom battle scene in Skyfall so I hope I get similar feelings with this.

http://attitude.co.uk/james-bond-spectre-review-daniel-craig-still-packs-a-punch/

Posted by: Rooney 27th October 2015, 08:40 PM

Nowhere near as good as Skyfall, but Skyfall is an extremely hard film to live up to. It tried to be light hearted Bond and serious Bond. I think it does it quite well, but I also think there are a lot of flaws with the film. My main gripe is the ability to tie everything together. That's all very well and fine, but this film just really seems like it sat there, call it part 4 of 5, and I think it suffers from it. Christopher Waltz is sublime in it, but he's criminally underused.

Posted by: Halloqween 28th October 2015, 01:05 AM

It felt quite 'final' to me, like this was the end of Craig as Bond (wishful thinking playing a part here too, no doubt). I enjoyed it, but it's nowhere near as good as Skyfall which struck the balance perfectly between old and new, story telling and drama/action. This felt flabby and rushed all at once to me. Some scenes went on for far too long (like the car chase in Rome) and others which should have held great weight felt like they just happened (the reveal of Blofeld, the scene in the ''information'' room). Plotting was definitely a secondary concern with this one, again. I mean I love most Bond movies, even the most ridiculous ones, but a ridiculous plot is still better than little to no plot.

My main issue with it I guess was that for it's running time it never felt like it was using the time properly. I didn't check my watch at any point which is always a good sign, but at the same time I left feeling like it was an awfully long movie that didn't do an awful lot. M was glorious, as were Q and Moneypenny and I really enjoyed seeing them woven into the story. Plus the linking in the other films was well done too, even if it was just a nod to the baddies from each. If I were to compare it to a 'classic' Bond, it would probably be On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a solid film but an unexciting one and thus one that isn't a truly enjoyable Bond experience.

It was stunning to look at though, as ever.

7/10

Posted by: Izzy Dead People 28th October 2015, 01:38 AM

Very impressive visuals for sure. Plot could have left a bit to be desired, I didn't feel any great attachment to Swann, she just took over the plot a bit too quickly. It felt quite final, but I don't think it was anywhere near as good as Skyfall. Plus the SONG. The group I was with universally agreed that was a negative biggrin.gif

Q, M and Moneypenny getting a lot more screentime was good and I felt C was much more realistic a villain than the cartoonish Blofeld (although who needs realism when it comes to Bond, but still an Orwellian controller you could see existing in our society somewhere up at the top is so much more interesting to watch). Some scenes, like the start in Mexico and the bits in Austria, were great, others, not so great. Pretty middle-of-the-road and certainly not as tightly woven as what came before.

This, MI was surprisingly SO much better. Maybe due to a much better female lead.

Posted by: liamk97 30th October 2015, 12:01 PM

I too watched this last night and it deserves a whole lot better than "not as good as Skyfall". Fantastic stunts and scenery, as was the main Bond girl and Blofeld, and I agree it was great to see M, Q and Moneypenny have bigger roles. The plot was absolutely fine for me; the film did feel like it slightly dragged at one point in the first half but the action in the second more than made up for that. I loved the scene where Blofeld is showing the footage of Mr White's suicide and Bond insists Swann looks at him, to which she finally does; just felt pretty poignant to see how much she trusted him. I also liked the nods to the other Daniel Craig films, as well as previous Bond films before: the opening sequence was Live and Let Die-esque and the train fight scene was rather similar to Bond vs. Jaws.

I wish there was more of Lucia (Monica) - she seemed so hyped up for being the "oldest ever Bond girl" so I was expecting her to have a decent part; I kept thinking she would reappear latter in the film.

Also, I thought 'Writing's on the Wall' worked well in the opening titles and especially well as an instrumental within the film.

Posted by: Boom!!! 7th November 2015, 03:17 PM

Disappointed with Spectre its not Skyfall, the opening scene is pretty good (a hint of Live and Let Die), it did feel dragging a bit, overall its good but it was a tough act to follow Skyfall. And the ending was pretty predictable for me, as I knew Blofeld is part of the Bond continuing saga who is bound to be featured in more Bond movies down the line. Another long wait now for the next movie. sad.gif I wanted more at the end.

"You might feel a little... prick" laugh.gif I couldn't help but laughed

I saw this last week and whilst I don't have much to compare it with, having seen Skyfall and Casino Royale, I really enjoyed it.
It was quite confusing at times because apparantly quite a few things from previous movies played a part in this, but overall this was a really enjoyable movie

Posted by: Jonjoltergeist👻 7th November 2015, 04:42 PM

This was ridiculously generic. Disappointingly so, too. Far too formulaic and "seen it all before". Don't think I'll ever get the fascination with Bond though, tbh. 'Casino Royale' was dull and the handful of older ones I saw, I liked more than this, but still found them a bit "ehhhh".

You'd have thought that, for one of the biggest movie franchises in existence, they'd be less like that. In terms of spy films from 2015... 'Kingsman' >>>>>>>>>...>>>>

Posted by: popchartfreak 9th November 2015, 07:25 PM

A good film especially the latter half but the pace early on was slow, if gorgeous cinematography. Needed 20 minutes cutting out. The supporting cast is great, the villain fab and i hope daniel does another but it seemed pretty much a goodbye movie. Not as good as skyfall though.

Time for idris elba to take over says me.... yahoo.gif

Posted by: jark 9th November 2015, 07:32 PM

Very disappointing film for me personally. On the one hand Skyfall is one of my favourite films ever, but on the other I didn't expect Spectre to be that great. I just wanted it to be strong and it wasn't. Very weak storyline - still not sure what Oberhauser's scheme actually was - and Christoph Waltz was, surprisingly, extremely bland here. Very much miscast.

No action sequences that were especially memorable, a subpar script (Swann loves Bond after two days? Really? They drive off in a DB5 and that's supposed to be an epic climax to the film?!)... Lea Seydoux was great and Monica Bellucci good too but both she and Moneypenny were dreadfully underused. Moneypenny had about 4 lines of dialogue in the whole film. I enjoyed it very much on a visual level and for the cast (Ralph Fiennes also did great) but the story left much to be desired. B-

Posted by: Joe. 10th November 2015, 01:32 PM

The rating has plummeted to 63% on Rotten tomatoes, making this the lowest rated Bond in ages (even lower than QOS!) I think the early positive reviews were pretty much driven my hype, I'm glad I stuck to my guns with my feelings straight away.

Posted by: mr_pmt 12th November 2015, 09:54 PM

I saw it this evening, it was decent enough but it really did feel like they were dragging it out at times and I swear I did almost fall asleep when they were embarking on that train journey.

I'd still say it was worth my time seeing it, but I had to see it anyway as I've seen all of them.

The rating has plummeted to 63% on Rotten tomatoes, making this the lowest rated Bond in ages (even lower than QOS!) I think the early positive reviews were pretty much driven my hype, I'm glad I stuck to my guns with my feelings straight away.

Metacritic is a much more reliable aggregator than RT. Quantum has 58 on there, Spectre has 60.

Very surprised to hear Lana Del Rey has never been approached to do a Bond theme. I suppose Adele and Sam Smith were the producers' first choices then.

"Spectre" was released in cinemas worldwide last autumn and it was arguably one of the most hyped films of last year! It was the 24th film of the legendary agent and its production cost millions dollars for the film studio Eon Productions. Of course, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures with Columbia Pictures contributed too. The role of James Bond was embodied by Daniel Craig once again while Lea Seydoux played the new Bond Girl, Dr. Madeleine Swann. I cannot say that I was mad to watch it as many people because I did not like "Skyfall" very much -an unpopular opinion- and also its official trailer did not convince me that I would see something very impressive. However, "Spectre" was quite remarkable and it was definitely one of the best films of the British secret agent!
In the new film, James Bond faces a criminal secret organization known as SPECTRE -SPecial Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion. The film develops on five different areas such as Mexico City, Rome, Austrian Alps, Tangier and London, where James Bond tries to find “the brain” of the organization, Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Franz Oberhauser, which is played by Christoph Waltz. On his side, he will have the two permanent colleagues, Miss Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris, and Q, played by Ben Whishaw, in order to find the daughter of an old opponent, Mr White, played by Jesper Christensen, who knows something for SPECTRE. At the same time in London, the new head of the National Security Centre, Max Denbigh, who is played by Andrew Scott, challenges the role of Bond in the secret services and MI6 in general, which is lead by the new M, wonderfully played by Ralph Fiennes. The acclaimed director Sam Mendes took over a James Bond film for second consecutive time after the successfull commercial "Skyfall"! His work was amazing and the overall effect reminded me of the good old films of the series. "Spectre" had intriguing scenario, elaborate montage, excellent cinematography and great photography. It didn't contain many action scenes because the writers gave greater emphasis to the film's characters. Daniel Craig gave his best performance as James Bond whilst the seductive Lea Seydoux was one of the best Bond Girls in terms of beauty, character and talent. Something that I will not say the same is Monica Bellucci, although she was thought as the most sexy woman of the Nineties. Her role was quite small -a little more than that of Tonia Sotiropoulou in Skyfall- and it seemed to me that her chin went back and forth when she spoke. She also had pretentious sensuality and she lost enough compared with other Bond Girls. Perhaps if she had participated in any of the 90's Bond films, she would be by far the best! Christoph Waltz was absolutely convincing in the evil role while Dave Bautista reminded me of Jaws. They were both undead. Moreover, "Spectre" had very good soundtrack and it was an apt choice the song that played in the opening, Writing's On The Wall. Although many resented this song, I found that it was incredibly sticky with the content of the movie. Let alone, the interpretation of Sam Smith is breathtaking and it totally deserved the Academy Award for Best Original Song!
"Spectre" was one of the most remarkable productions of last year! It cost $ 250 million and its total revenues were more than $880 million worldwide. It may not exceed a total of tickets as "Skyfall", but it is the second most commercial film of the series! It received mixed reviews from the experts of the film industry and it has garnered an unfair average score by IMDb users (6,7). The hardcore fans of "Skyfall" will be definitely unhappy with the new film, but personally I liked it very much. It was a Bond film with substance and it had the appropriate action doses so it does not end up a mindless movie with illustration wrapper.
