But who's yours?
Everyone likes a rate right? Well you had your say on Buzzjack's Favourite Female and male Solo act and decided that Madonna and Michael Jackson were Buzzjack's No 1 acts- Now it's time for the groups!
So what’s the criteria?
As this is the UK Charts section there are some proviso’s around who can be nominated
1) The act in question must have had at least one Top 40 single in the UK
2) That credit may have been a feature
3) To avoid confusion on credits I will treat polyhex.com as the bible
5) By top 40 single I refer to the main UK singles chart not the sales chart or any other alternative chart.
How do I Vote?
Simples. Just PM me with your votes before 23.00 on Saturday 3rd October 2020 with your top 30 list of your groups.
Scoring:
The act you place at No 1 on your list will receive 30 points, No 2 will get 29 points and so on until your 30th man gets 1 point.
We then tally up your marks to give us the ultimate list!
But I don’t like/ know 30 groups?
Firstly what are you doing on Buzzjack? But if you really can’t then that’s fine just submit what you can BUT your No 1 will only get the number of points for the number of acts you enter- for example if your list has 23 groups on it then your No 1 gets 23 points etc.
Feel free to use the thread to discuss/ stan for your fave’s but PLEASE DO NOT REVEAL YOUR SCORES FOR ANY ACT.
You may submit commentary with your scores if you wish and it is encouraged as to why that act means so much to you, but it’s not obligatory!
AND ABOVE ALL HAVE FUN........AND BE NICE!
Please use this as a template for your voting

Guys you're supposed to PM the votes according to the OP just repeating that now before anyone else does the same!
I missed both male and female so will aim to do this one
Some of the male and female acts I voted for were on the basis of one or two songs I liked as most of the music I listen to is by groups. This will be a lot tougher to narrow down to thirty.
YES DO NOT POST YOUR LIST IN THIS THREAD PLEASE!
Third time lucky for M4NGO to remember correctly if he voted or not
Are duos considered groups?
Id say yes provided they were actually group and not just a collaboration for example Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. They clearly weren't a duo but a duet, if you follow.
Voted
Sorry didn't use the template but mine are in order of best to worst.
Thanks
Voted!
If a group was featured on a charity single and that was their only top 40, does it count?
Only if they were individually credited. So One direction and jls were individually credited on "wishing on a star" for example so they would be eligible on that basis alone, but say Band Aid wouldn't have made any of the individual participants eligible alone.
I found narrowing down to 30 very difficult !!
THREE weeks left to vote- already 13 voters!
I have voted. There are some that I imagine will end up very high that didn't come near consideration, and at least 5 that I'll be very surprised if there's another voter of!
The task was made significantly easier by so many bands I've loved over the last dozen or so years having never made the top 40.
I've voted
What about solo artists that were previously groups? (Panic! at the Disco basically )
Yes their work can be counted separately
Voted! Thought it was going to be difficult to think of 30, but in the end it was hard to narrow it down to that number.
One week warning peeps, get those votes in if you want them to count!
oops i didn't use your template i apologise but my list is in order from fave to least fave x
looking forward to the countdown!

Over 20 voters with 6 days to go! You've made me proud buzzjack. Let's see if we can get 30..
If you are still deciding on your list can you please ensure they meet the criteria as per the opening post. Most lists that I have to go back to people with are because some of the groups haven't had a UK top 40 single........Polyhex is your friend if in doubt- Much obliged
Up to 24 voters and 4 days left!
48 hours (or so) left if you want to vote for your favourite groups!
Sent in some votes
12 hours left to register your vote!
Just under 6 hours left and we've hit 30 voters!
And voting is now closed. Thanks to the 30 people who voted. Results will begin tomorrow!......
OK some stats for you
There are 294 groups (which is more than either the female or male list) and the 30 pointers are spread out over 24 acts!
There were 30 voters which is more than for the males list but less than the females list (34 voters).
I don't have a clue who will top this poll. Looking forward to the results.

Disclosure only got 1 point? The same as Karmin? This is already cancelled xx
(In fairness I'm not sure they're really one of the first acts I'd think of when thinking of 'groups' so I wonder if some people may have just not considered them)
Cage The Elephant appearing here is a nice surprise, I tend to forget they ever had a top 40 hit. That one top 40 hit from them is a good song but their best for me will always be the absolutely excellent 'Shake Me Down'. 'House Of Glass' from their most recent album was great too.
Oh Disclosure yeah I must admit that they didn’t really come into my head for a group! Well... at least they weren’t totally snubbed then ‘Settle’ is an excellent dance album and I find ‘Caracal’ a bit underrated, another good’un.
This will be a fun trip
Disclosure were definitely a consideration of mine, but probably a good 15-20 away from reaching my votes. Looking forward to following this, I suspect there will be a few where I'm the only voter, the first one having 3/4 points (depending on whether Gezza accepted a somewhat sneaky nomination of mine)
Joy Division and Leftfield weren't far away from my nominations, glad they made it in at least. I hadn't realised Antony & The Johnsons had made the Top 40 and I thought Blackpink would be higher. I expect one of my nominations will be out next.
Ah, Disclosure & Joy Division are fair shouts, alas I ran out of room in my vote too quickly.
Looking forward to these results!
Wow so many gone straight away.
My poor 1 pointer The Darkness
I thought someone else would have voted for Cage the Elephant.... they are so underrated, their music is timeless...
my poor 1 pointer Antony & The Johnsons, one of the most talented and underrated UK artists ever

If the groups on 1 point were 281st, shouldn't the groups with 2 points be 275th, not 276th as there are six of them?
The title of Brand New's one UK top 40 hit is kind of prophetic in retrospect.
*highest charting UK top 40 hit, whoops (I clearly didn't read the line above that in Gezza's post and just guessed from the fact it peaked at #37 that it was their only one )
That said, their other top 40 hit is called 'The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows' which... is kind of also an aged like milk title
I'm not surprised no one else voted for Inspiral Carpets @ Housemartins.
Whatever, This is How it feels by Inspiral and Housemartins rendition of Caravan of Love are both masterpieces imo.

Good to see The Jam and Kraftwerk featuring even if they are quite low down.
AC/DC not high enough.

La Roux a little borderline here given 'they' were only a group for one album - then again that one album contained all of their top 40 hits
The Pipettes
As I suspected, their only voter. They were the only group I voted for who I only have one album by, but it is so good. I listened to it again recently, the most wonderful collection of beautifully crafted pop songs. So different to what was around at the time.

Some of the Delays singles were great, Valentine especially.
The Delays, Kasabian, James and Foster The People are all great bands! Kinda sad to see them so low, but I guess there are too many bands out there.

Dircadirca said "I'd probably still put them here if Since I Left You was the only album they ever made"
I don't care what anyone says, I loved Wlison Phillips' debut album
The Kaiser Chiefs definitely deserved to be higher, they narrowly missed out on points from me.
Ah The Kaiser Chiefs are the first group to drop out of my votes! Definitely thought they'd get more support than that
I think my favourite of theirs is 'Everyday I Love You Less And Less'
I am shocked that Kaiser Chiefs only got votes from one person!
Are there any electronic music groups that got points from more than one person? Much too low for The KLF as well... (and I am not that familiar with The Avalanches but from what I have heard from them I imagine I would be a big fan if I had heard more of their stuff, I think I only know 'Frontier Psychiatrist' out of their older stuff but I've loved a couple of their new songs from this year).
Kaiser Chiefs and The Wombats both have their fair share of quality songs from the landfill indie era.
I didn’t vote on this but intrigued at results.
Kinda expecting a very girl band heavy list as we get higher up though.
Maybe even a battle of the BJ Artist forums
I'd argue The Wombats' more recent stuff is better than their 2000s releases. I'm glad they've managed to grow in popularity since then unlike many of the others at the time now - played arenas for the first time a couple of years ago!
KLF released some great singles and I love the two songs by Avalanches that made the top 40.
Ugh if only I remembered to vote, Kaiser Chiefs had 23 points from me.
The Kaisers made my shortlist but would've missed out on votes from me. They do have some amazing songs. KLF were awesome too.

'Alright' is brilliant but it's the only one song I remember from Supergrass.
Probably a controversial opinion but 'Sun Hits The Sky' was a better song than 'Alright'.
My favourite Supergrass song is 'Moving'.

The Bangles are my favourite from that bunch. 'Eternal Flame' remains one of my favourite songs from the 80s, it really didn't deserve to be murdered by Atomic Kitten
That section started out pretty strong - I like what I know of Spandau Ballet, Art of Noise, Underworld, Franz Ferdinand AND The Bangles quite a bit.
The Chainsmokers are super hit-and-miss for me with 'Roses' being a particular gem.
Underworld getting more than one vote, hooray! (Though still under 10 points xx)
Bangles and Underworld are the best of the last batch
Chainsmokers ouch no thanks
Great selection today, as well as my own two groups who appeared, I like The Bangles,The Specials and Spandau Ballet.
Spandau Ballet were just outside my votes (had I voted!)
I like The Bangles, but forgot to include them.
I gave 3 points for Chainsmokers just because I like these 3 songs: Who Do You Love, #SELFIE and Paris. Their other singles are mediocre imo.

Red Box? I've literally never heard of them
Thought Doves might have got more than me voting especially with new stuff out, but then happy my 10 pointer didn't appear on 10 - thought I'd likely be the only voter!
I know Red Box's two top 40 hits. Lean On Me is a great song.
Doves were close to getting points from me.

Used to really like Hard-Fi and Maximo Park back in the day can't say I've heard anything from them in a while
'Our Velocity' is an all-time fave song Maxïmo Park had a few other bops too ('Books From Boxes', 'Apply Some Pressure'). Hard-Fi had a couple of good tunes too. Landfill indie era memories ~
oh Prefab Sprout were great
Sad not to see Hard-Fi pick up votes from anyone else.
I'm surprised many people on Buzzjack remember Prefab Sprout, though I'm sure a few will know 'If You Don't Love Me' from Kylie's cover of it.

surprised no one else voted for Pearl Jam :/
Finally another one of my votes drops out - not that I'm complaining about waiting a while! Once again surprised that I was the only person to vote for The Kinks they were quite fresh in my mind thanks to The Kink Kronikles release for Record Store Day. Probably my 2nd favourite 60s band after The Beatles.
That's a good set of groups on 14 points.
I was fully expecting my own 14 pointer to appear today. I'm pleased to see somebody else voted for them.
Evanescence were very close to making my list. None of mine have fallen out yet, I don't think.
Aww poor brave Swedish House Mafia.
I used to be obsessed with Evanescence hence my 14 points, although after their first 2 albums they did start to go down hill.
Someone voted for Same Difference 😳
I have already lost 4 groups again
Oh I probably should've considered voting for Evanescence, but I'm glad someone else did!
All those amazing 90s songs and Primal Scream's highest charting hit is Country Girl :| I did love it at the time but wow
Maximo Park's debut album was so good, one of my favourites ever and was utterly obsessed with it. They were probably the band I included which I like the least % of their output if that makes sense. Half a dozen or so great songs since their debut but I can quite happily leave most of their output since.
I'd say if my 13 & 14 pointers have dropped out with only me voting then it's absolutely nailed on my 15 & 16 are too.
Primal Scream is a stranger one for me, they're a band with a double personality
I love their dance album like Screamadelica and even their minor dance albums like Evil Heat
but hate their rock-y albums, which probably gave them their biggest hits like Rocks

oh love Ash, forgot to vote for them
A diverse selection of (mostly very good) groups today!
I am really glad Ash made it. I didn't manage to squeeze them into my TOP 30.
Seriously - I was the ONLY ONE to vote for East 17? They had some absolute bops back in the day, I'm astounded (and quite saddened) that no one else voted for them
I don't think I know any songs from them besides the obvious one. Oop ~
The Long Blondes were the perfect mid 2000s indie act, both of their albums are brilliant and unlike many acts of that time, sounded completely different. A sad end to them but it did leave them with a perfect discography.
Ash had some fine singles in the 90s and early 00s, Free All Angels is a brilliant album I loved as an early teenager and still do, still released some good songs since and I enjoyed their A-Z series about a decade ago. They're another act I've voted for who's biggest hit is a bit meh, never really enjoyed Goldfinger like I do a lot of others
Guillemots wouldn't have been far from my votes. Through The Windowpane is incredible but they were pretty ropey after that.
I did like a bunch of East 17 songs (House of love, Thunder, Stay Another Day)
but I wouldn't even put them in why top 100 bands
Ash I really liked and I own 3 albums, I think the quality of their music went a bit downhill with the A-Z project (too many songs without quality control)
but they have lots of great songs: Girl from Mars, Oh Yeah, Walking Barefoot, Candy, Shining Light, Evil Eye, Burn Baby Burn, Sometimes, A Life less Ordinary...

Well, don't include me in this. I can't believe I'm NOT the only one who voted for the group I gave 15 points. I can't wait to discover who's the other 'crazy' Buzzjack member.
I suspect there's another mid 00s indie band I'll be the only person to have voted for, but I'd like to think everyone else I've given 18+ points to had multiple voters

‘Tainted Love’ is one of my favourite hits of the 80s
I strongly considered putting The Beach Boys in my votes! Glad they didn’t go home empty-handed.
I'm not a fan but surprised to see Beach Boys with only one vote.
I'm pleased to see that someone else voted for the Moody Blues.

Never got the fuss about Mumford. Yeah they've released a few decent songs (Little Lion Man is probably my favourite) but I can take or leave them.
I've never heard a Mumford & Sons album before but I do absolutely love 'The Cave'
their debut is great but they kinda lost me after that, their best song is Winter Winds
Yeah agree. I loved their debut but they've got progressively worse with now the occasional decent single.
Friendly Fires got only 1 UK top 40 hit.
Friendly Fires' one top 40 hit is hardly even one of their more memorable songs as well. Same with Two Door Cinema Club.
Mumford & Sons' first 2 albums were both great, I have lost a bit of interest in them since then though.
Yes the first two Mumford & Sons albums are the only ones I really like and the first more than the second. My favourite songs are The Cave, Winter Winds and either of the title tracks next.

Booty Luv getting two votes I thought they were long forgotten about! They did have some decent singles tbf.
I'm 99.9% certain that my 21 and 22 pointers are coming up next because I can't for the life of me imagine anyone else voted for them!
So tomorrow we start knocking out people's top 10 faves!
When I did my list I ended up with a top 70 shortlist!! Mumford were in my top 60 and Beach Boys Top 50. Vienna is an all time classic from Ultravox and I liked a few of their other singles.
Adam and the Ants I've really got into all three of their albums lately - with 'Kings of the Wild Frontier' being my favourite. The double-drumming tribal energy, post-punk/new wave sound, fun lyrical style and Adam's voice are all so infectious. Top 10 songs right now are probably...
01. Stand and Deliver
02. Prince Charming
03. Antmusic
04. Kings of the Wild Frontier
05. Ants Invasion
06. Dog Eat Dog
07. Don't Be Square (Be There)
08. Physical (You're So)
09. Zerox
10. Scorpios
Great videos too - the embedded 'Prince Charming' one is a lot of fun!
It's a shame that they split up while they were still absolutely massive I understand why and Adam was able to use the springboard for 'Goody Two Shoes', but aww.
This section is mostly full of acts that I really like one song from namely 'Little Talks', 'Lola's Theme', 'Vienna' ( - I watched that exact TOTP performance the other day as '1981 hits' was on iPlayer), and 'Boogie 2nite'! OutKast were a glaring omission from my list, oops
Everyone thinks they know the story, of Dick Turpin's highway glory
(that parody got me into Adam & The Ants )
Nice to see OutKast getting as many as 3 votes! And cool to see Of Monsters And Men here too though I am surprised they'd be as high as 11th for someone given their fairly limited discography - they do have some other good songs besides 'Little Talks' though xx
Living for Jade randomly turning into an Adam & The Ants stan recently
really like Of Monsters and Men and even seen them live a couple times
but Little Talks is their only wow song, the rest are nice but nothing even comes close to Little Talks

I forgot I had voted for Westlife! That's a poor showing for them, but I get it - they were never my favourites but they have lots of nostalgic tunes.
How did I forget Eternal
Lots of groups on 22 points !
glad that there were other votes for Eternal, one of my fave girl groups ever...
Noooooo Westlife would've had 28 points from me
then good you didn't vote
The Beautiful South and Sparks are the pick of those as well as my own vote,OMD.
2 boybands out but none of them are the ones I voted for.
I like my fair share of Westlife songs but once again... only on BuzzJack could they be ahead of some of the bands they have beaten here xx
In terms of chart success, they can beat everything here.
Wow I guess that makes their music amazing then!!!
That list of Westlife #1s
Pink Floyd and OMD might have made my Top 50
Some great bands in that section... used to love Eternal back in the day and NKOTB too! Love a bit of Beautiful South and OMD were one of the best 80s/early 90s bands, they narrowly missed out on points from me. Westlife are probably my least favourite of all the big boy bands but I'm very surprised to see them this low here.
I can't wait to see who the other person (or people?) is that voted for my 22 pointer! I'm shook!
I must confess that I have a soft spot for 'Flying Without Wings'
Beautiful South were pretty close to my top 30 - I loved some of their early albums and carry on up the charts is an awesome greatest hits collection.
BS deserved top 100
Westlife should be nowhere near the top 200. Granted they had a small handful of decent songs (Uptown Girl, You Raise Me Up, Tonight) but on the most part they represent the worst of pop music from around the turn of the millennium.

Great shout for XTC.

Oh I forgot all about Jamiroquai! Especially bad as I tried to include them in the male one
poor Smashing Pumpkins, they were so amazing (even if briefly)
the run of singles that included Today-Disarm-Bullet with Butterfly Wings-1979-Tonight Tonight was incredible
sad to see the lack of love for 90s US rock bands with Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows all gone already
I could have voted for Major Lazer.
I think I liked a Smashing Pumpkins song, but it's not Tonight Tonight.
i’m shocked that no one else voted for Jamiroquai... they r legends...
Got to love a bit of Madness x
Very few of my votes have come up so far, so it'll be a nice surprise for me when they do
Madness are the best group from today's batch.
I'm surprised I didn't vote for them, can't remember if they just missed out so might have forgot about them.
loved the Stone Roses back in the day
and their debut album is amazing, the second one not so much
so it's always difficult to rate them against bands that have consistently delivered over time
I actually cannot recall either if I voted for them or not
Madness (38) and Def Leppard (36) were just outside my Top 30 but Jamiroquai were 25th so would've got another 6 points from me!! All brilliant bands.
Tomorrow we have the first act to attract votes from 4 voters!
Of all my 20+ pointers, I didn't think Def Leppard would be the band that no one else voted for!
Madness are a great band, they were probably close to getting points from me.
Def Leppard had another #2 hit, When Love And Hate Collide, that was the first I heard of them and I got their 'best of' the same year.
Madness and Jamiroquai were in my list but couldn’t squeeze them in to my top 30
Everything Everything stood out like a sore thumb in my votes with only one top 40 scrape to their name, but they were a must nevertheless, still delivering the eclectic goods I've never heard a Jamiroquai album before (which was not very useful when I took part in a music quiz once with a dedicated artist round, that week Jamiroquai, full of album tracks ) but they have some brilliant singles in their repertoire.

All of those #1 hits for The Rolling Stones I've never been able to massively get into them in general but 'Paint It, Black' is a brilliant song.
I really like all of those 10cc chart toppers but on the flip-side, I prefer t.A.T.u.'s material away from 'All The Things She Said' - particularly 'Not Gonna Get Us'
I know and love the obvious Yeah Yeah Yeah songs 'Zero' and 'Heads Will Roll' but don't know anything else, should probably rectify that.
I don't know that many songs from Yeah Yeah Yeahs either but they do have 2 proper 11/10 moments in their discog just among the ones I do know - 'Maps' and 'Zero' ('Heads Will Roll' is great as well ofc).
Yay for System Of A Down here as well ~
can’t believe I forgot Bucks Fizz!
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps is one of my favourite songs of the 00s. It's been pretty influential too (e.g. Kelly Clarkson - Since U Been Gone, Black Eyed Peas - Meet Me Halfway and Beyoncé - Hold Up have all used elements of it).
I never really liked any INXS songs until a few years ago when I heard one of their really early songs, Don't Change
Hard to pick 3 favourite Rolling Stones songs as they were so consistent - I'll say Brown Sugar, Jumpin' Jack Flash and The Last Time.
Good to know someone else voted for INXS. My fave of theirs is Never Tears Us Apart.
RIP Michael Hutchence. Its weird to know he was a former Kylie 's boyfriend.
i can’t believe The Rolling Stones got so few votes... they r legends.... thought they’s be in the top 10 at least....
Can we not talk about Beyoncé's massacre of 'Maps' pls x
really liked INXS
lots of great songs especially from the Kick era
I agree that Not Gonna Get Us by Tatu is a better song than All The Things She Said and Never Tear Us Apart is also my favourite by INXS of the songs I know by them.
Moving into folks top 5 faves from tomorrow!
Oh how did I forget t.A.T.u., they definitely should've been in my top 30. But then they'd have had more points than the Rolling Stones which would seem weird Glad to see them here without my help!
I suspected Cremey would've been the other YYYs voter. They're an incredible singles band, only really love It's Blitz! of their albums which is why I didn't rank them higher.
Good to see System of a Down getting a vote, they wouldn't have been far away from getting points from me, a really good couple of albums which I still listen to occasionally.

Some great bands in that reveal - esp Skunk Anansie but Biffy so low!!! If I had submitted my votes they would've got 19 more points. #Justice4Biffy
#Jusitce4Biffy
Should have had more votes.
oh 2 of big fav ones, Skunk Anansie and Travis
Did not know skunk anasie didn’t have a top 10 !!
yes, Skunk Anansie came very close to the top 10 a bunch of times, they had 7 top 20 hits I believe
the highest was Brazen at #11 and Hedonism at #13
Can't believe I forgot Cocteau Twins!
Also can't believe RFC didn't vote for Interpol!!!
Biffy Clyro is the only one I really care much about in that bunch.
Awww Travis didn't deserve to finish so low, nor did Biffy or Skunk Anansie actually, some great bands in that selection. Skunk Anansie's 'Stoosh' is an outstanding album!
The Mamas and The Papas have some great songs too, obvs 'California Dreamin' is an absolute classic

Dircadirca said “Low End & Marauders are stone cold classics, their parting album is not far off that either. No celebrity death has impacted me more than the Phifer”
Yes and Nirvana, I like them. I forgot to vote for several groups, sadly.
So I can confirm someone is losing their 30 pointer today...
I'd put The Human League in the same league (no pun intended) as Duran Duran as one of the biggest pop bands of the 80s so I'm really surprised they only got one vote.
Also surprised Blue and B*witched are that low, after all this is Buzzjack.
oh my poor All About Eve gone, I knew no one else would vote for them, as this is Buzzjack
not many fans of indie-goth-folk 80s bands even though All About Eve had a female singer
their were my fav band as a kid, so mostly a nostalgia vote
also sad Nirvana is gone, they should definitely be higher, having them together with Liberty X, Blue or B'Witched is just wrong, even for Buzzjack standards
really hope with so many great bands gone already, the rest is not shitty pop bands ti the end
I'm hoping AH Gold also voted for my 30 pointer, otherwise it will probably be me.
I didn't quite have room for Nirvana in my votes - it's a shame they aren't higher, then again I'm pleased that my 20-pointer has ended up with more points...
Bring me the horizon, nirvana, liberty x I love. Yes, all about eve, a trial called quest ive never even heard of.

I have completed the hat trick of being the first person to lose his 30 pointer on each of Gezza's polls for male, female and group.
Wow I didn't expect to see S Club Juniors in this countdown!
Dead or Alive, one of my all time faves. Glad someone else voted for them too.
Elbow not really a fan of. ELO and Kings of Leon are alright. Florence is pretty good. S Club juniors had like 2 good songs wasn't expecting them this high at all hah
S Club Juniors 🤣🙈
Is Florence the first band with 5 voters ?
No Blue had 5 voters
So we're all done with the single voter acts.
For Numbers 101-122 I'll post at least 3 acts a day or more as the numbers dictate and we'll do a round up of how many acts each voter has left before we get started on the top 100.
I can't remember if I almost voted for Elbow or whether I completely forgot about them, still they're a great band
No regrets with sneaking Blue into my votes - both 'All Rise' and lockdown anthem 'Fly By II' have been in my head lately x
Omg S Club Juniors!! 'Fool No More' and 'Sundown' were pretty mature and great from them, Liberty X also have some strong pop offerings like 'Just A Little' and 'Being Nobody'
'nihilist blues' was my favourite song of last year - I'm generally more of a fan of BMTH's electronic work
'One Day Like This', 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and 'You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)' are classics <3 but don't know much else from those
My favourite Florence song is a bit of a weird choice ('What The Water Gave Me') - they probably deserved a place in my votes actually, but I sometimes forget they're a band
Although 4 people voted for Florence and the Machine, they landed relatively low. I would expect them to be more iconic in Buzzjack.
Was Florence not also in the female solo artists countdown (because of her feature on 'Sweet Nothing')? I can definitely imagine there might have been people who left F+TM out of their votes here due to not considering them to be a group (and it is a fairly arbitrary distinction really).

M People deserve top 100
A unique band !!
Culture Club and M People had some great ones.
Only really know one Tears for Fears song.
The other 2 I don't know of
i wish i had voted for Culture Club, forgot about them...😞
I thought EWTRTW for sure topped the charts.
I lost my two bands at one go today.
Two Door Cinema Club had a nearly flawless singles run for their first 2 albums. They've been spottier since then but still put out the occasional great tune. They deserve better than for the ok but fairly subpar by their standards 'Changing Of The Seasons' to be their only top 40 hit - although of course their most popular song by far now would be 'What You Know'.
M People were a great band, in many ways they were the Clean Bandit of the early 90s, in that they produced some excellent commercial sounding dance music. And Heather Small has got a cracking set of lungs on her! I actually feel bad I didn't vote for them now. But I still can't believe they finished lower than my slightly obscure favourite 90s pop/dance band that's yet to come
Moving on Up is a tune but I can't remember anything else from M People.
I think I've already lost 9 groups but I'm not sure about it.
Florence gone! Injustice! and with the same votes as S Club Jr :/ this is just wrong
Portishead just missed in my voting but amazing incredible band
Tears for Fears were my number 28 - amazing run of 80s singles. I only know Portishead's first album which is brilliant.

Scissors are the best of that bunch, they've delivered some absolute bops. 'Filthy/Gorgeous' was such a moment *.* unfortunately their quality just diminished with every album.
I'm not sure I even know 'Show You The Way To Go'...that was really the Jacksons' only #1!?
Scissor Sisters and Sister Sledge getting the same amount of points, quite a coincidence!
What happened top Scissor Sisters? Do they still exist?

Heart I'm choked that anyone else voted for them, let alone two others! Ann Wilson's voice is absolutely incredible and they definitely don't get much recognition beyond 'Alone' - which I have to say is probably the BEST power ballad ever recorded. I could listen to them all day long
I expected Prodigy to be in the TOP 100. They were my Bubbling Under.
Happy to see The Prodigy getting as many as 5 voters even if they've ended up outside the top 100. Would have been my 30 pointer if I did a list of course. Nice showing for Hot Chip too.
I thought Heart were a girlband but I was wrong .
I think I prefer Alyssa Reid's Alone Again to Heart's Alone
Surprised Prodigy is not top 100. I wonder if the groups needed more than 40 point to be top 100 here.
^oh my, clean your ears
Heart were an amazing band, and not just Alone, they also had lots of other great songs (All I Wanna Do Is Make Love to You, Never, These Dreams,
There's the Girl, Secret, What About Love, Stranded)
Prodigy were great too, they were in my bubbling under list. I really loved The Fat of the Land but prior to that album and after that album, I didn't like them as much... but Firestarter and Breathe were some of the best songs of the 90s
Misteeq and Produgy were on my list but didn’t make top 30
I love Heart, completely forgot about them and Mis-Teeq. Both brilliant
Love a bit of The Prodigy too.
Hot Chip I've not heard much of them tbh
Another two of mine out, feels like a lot! Thought the Prodigy would be higher - will have to blame Bre
Like so many bands I voted for, the song posted as highest charting for Hot Chip is far from my favourite of theirs. Their career does vary from being good to great, and every time I think they might have lost it come back with something brilliant - their album last year loads better than the previous one, a consistency in producing indie/electronic music and of every gig I've ever been to they probably had the most consistently age varied crowd.
I guess maybe Prodigy is one of the few cases in which their highest charting songs are also their best
Don't think I like any other song of theres more than Breathe
I have lost ten groups
Hopefully I dont lose anymore until the top 100!!
1 poster is going to have a very bad day indeed in the thread having voted for every act leaving....
Wow at the Prodigy being out already. They're the biggest shock for me so far, would have thought they would easily be top 100.
I love The Prodigy but there's definitely a disassociation in my brain between dance acts and the word 'group' or 'band' so I didn't even think of these kind of artists when compiling my votes. So yeah, I'm to blame too. so many classics in their back catalogue - I think 'Out of Space' is my favourite!
The Prodigy would have been somewhere near my votes - they had so many great singles in the 90s.

Poor WhoOdyssey! I'm more than happy that as many as five posters voted for London Grammar!!! They deserved it!
ouch looks like I forgot to vote for London Grammar? I was convinced I had them in
I also like Vampire Weekend a lot...
Loooove P!ATD, would've had 15 points from me.
Vampire Weekend probably would have made my top 40, while London Grammar and the Vaccines are two of the more recent groups I considered.
Tomorrow we'll do a recap of all that's gone as we hit the magic 100 mark plus see how many acts each voter has left in the top 100!
Vampire Weekend and London Grammar are two more that would have ranked highly for me - consider them to be moral top 100 finishers. x
I've not really cared that much for their later stuff but The Vaccines are another band who had a really solid run of singles earlier on. Quite impressive that a group like them managed to get 4 top 40 hits so recently - although their best song for me is 'All In White' which didn't chart.
London Grammar were in my list too - would've had another 16 points. I'm thinking a few of my favs have completed missed the countdown now (I would've been their only voter). Will wait and see.
Brilliant to follow along Gezza
London Grammar are one of those bands that everyone except me seems to love, but I just don't get the hype for them at all. With the exception of a couple of songs, I find them a bit dull (don't shoot me). Oh well.

The Sun Always Shines on TV is a pop classic really. It sounds so much better than their biggest hit in the USA Take On Me imo.
I got 22 groups left in the top 100. I've lost: S Club Juniors, INXS, Rudimental, Swedish House Mafia, Chainsmokers, KLF, The Housemartins and Inspiral Carpets.

Woo 23 of my faves to come. I can't even remember who I voted for 🤣
Catfish & The Bottlemen btw
Really enjoying this thread !!
Can’t believe some members have lost very few bands !!!
oh can't believe Pulp are gone, I thought they would be much appreciated in here
one of the best UK bands ever and a million times better than Oasis and Blur put together
also sad for A-ha and Keane, which I didn't vote but I do like a lot and bought albums in the past
As for the top 100- we now move to three eliminations per day. Ties will be separated by firstly those acts with the most voters giving them points, and in the event of a tie on that front, by the top mark they got from any one voter.

BIGGEST UK HIT: ALL THE SMALL THINGS (#2, 2000)
blink-182's best half a dozen or so songs are as good as most bands however I'm not really that into much after that.
Adam's Song, Stay Together For the Kids and I Miss You
Keane would've scored 21 points from me and A-ha 5 points. The Police made the shortlist but outside the points. Some great bands mixed in this section.
blink-182 'I Miss You' remains one of my faves.
Love a bit of Blink, they were close to getting points from me.
5SOS are good but still a poor man's Busted, at least in their early days. They've done really well to evolve their sound and stay kinda relevant though.
blink-182's more recent releases have been highly questionable at best but I like most of their classic singles, my fave also being 'I Miss You' <3
Mildly judging Jade for putting 5SOS in her top 20. (they have like 3 good songs x)

BIGGEST UK HIT: FINALLY FOUND (#4, 1998)
Blink 182, Stereophonics and Honeyz are all great.
Did not expect to see Alphabeat this high! Fascination is brilliant though.
I liked the Stereophonics' first two albums. I know the Manics have little in common with them except they're both from South Wales, but it would be a shame if they've missed out on votes completely.
Honeys doing very well and deservedly so!!! Still a shame their second album didn’t materialise.
Love the phonics too.
I was listening to Alphabeat just the other day actually, they're a great little pop band.
Stereophonics are pretty good too, lots of classic singles, 'Since I Told You It's Over' is probably my favourite.
A bit late, but I'm still happy to see 5 Seconds of Summer in the top 100. They could have been much higher if Joseph had voted. My faves of theirs are 'Don't Stop' and 'Youngblood'.
Also good to see Stereophonics this high. Their version of 'Handbags and Gladrags' are definitely my fave of theirs.
'Dakota' by Stereophonics is up there with my favourite songs of all time, they have a few other pretty good songs too but that's their only truly essential song.
Honeyz. Lol.
Stereophonics have many great tracks, my fav is probably Maybe Tomorrow
but also like Pick a Part That's New, Dakota, Traffic, A Thousand Trees, Just Looking...
they kinda lost me recently, cannot recall any recent single since Indian summer

BIGGEST UK HIT: MAMA (#4, 1983)
Good showing for G'n'R, 'Don't Cry' and 'November Rain' are two of the best rock songs ever written. They narrowly missed out on points from me.
The Vamps have released some fun singles but much like 5SOS I've always found them ultimately a poor man's Busted/McFly.
Genesis did some good stuff in the 90's, 'No Son Of Mine' is a classic
OMG! Since Gezza started the top 100 countdown, I'm losing 1 group every day.
By the way, I thought I would be the only one to vote for The Vamps. So, I'm pleased to see them in the top 100.
I think me and Michaelking21 have similar music taste. It's not the first time we vote for the same group.

BIGGEST UK HIT: HOPPIPOLLA (#24, 2005)
oh poor Sigur Ros! I also really like LCD Soundsystem
Nice to see Guns n Roses although think they definitely deserve at least top 75. Although I forgot to vote for them haha. The rest in the last bunch don't do much for me
Impressed LCD Soundsystem and The Libertines were that high. If anything I under-pointed LCD Soundsystem on 27, their output is so consistent and absolutely great.
I was a bit too young for The Libertines + other bands of that era, enjoyed the couple of singles I knew but went back to them in the second wave and enjoyed their second album, thought they were loads better than the likes of the Strokes or White Stripes, Up The Bracket is superb
Sigur Rós Completely unique band. I do have to be in the right mood to listen to them but when I am it's so easy to get completely lost in their songs.
The 'Valtari' album is absolutely stunning - really need to check out more Sigur Rós stuff.
I think 5SOS are the only group I've voted for since I last commented in here! They're mostly on my list for past glories (I was a total stan during their first album ) but they have won me back a bit with their latest era anyway - 'No Shame' and 'Wildflower' are great songs.
Sigur Rós <3 not sure we'll be getting any more proper new music from them any time soon sadly as they have lost half of their members and fallen into a couple of scandals oops ~ (they do have an album out in a few weeks but as far as I can tell it's just a live recording from 2002). At least Jónsi is still releasing music. Quite amazing that a band like them ever had a top 40 hit.
Hoppipolla was quite big at the time, it had 2 chart runs, first peaking at #35 in late 2005 and then it re-entered a few months later in 2006 and peaked at #24 then
of course years later Chicane did a dance cover and called it Poppiholla and that went top 10
I could never get into Sigur Rós, they were just that bit too alternative for me. I'm obviously not cultured enough to get them
The Libertines had some good tunes, all my mates were massively into them at the time, but I never thought they lived up to their hype.
I love Sigur Ros - music to zone out to - they were my #30

Texas were my number 31 choice !!!
I had a mate who was a massive Bloc Party fan but I never liked them very much. Their songs just seemed so...forgettable?
Glad Texas got a few votes I actually had their Greatest Hits on the other day, a very pleasant listen!
Goldfrapp and Bloc Party are both great, particularly with their earlier albums.
Texas are okay but I don't really like anything more than an "I wouldn't turn it off" kinda level. They're a perfect greatest hits only act for me.
I used to like a bit of Texas when I was very young. I used to think they were singing "my Bjorn Borg" rather than "black eyed boy".
Someone will lose their 30 pointer on Friday............
Goldfrapp were my #29
Pleasantly surprised how many indie/alt groups have made it this far! Hope it's a sign of what might be finishing high, rather than them all being eliminated in one stretch... anyway my 20-pointer has at least two other voters
Cremey & I losing a lot together at the moment
Bloc Party's output after their third album is pretty much all awful but those first two are incredible, but again two acts I've voted for with their highest charting songs (The Prayer and Ooh La La) not really anywhere near my favourite of theirs.

Onerepublic and Bee Gees. Love both.
i can't believe Bee Gees are so low, they're one of the greatest groups in history....
i'm so gutted i forgot to vote for Goldfrapp, they would have been in my top 15 for sure....
Yes Bjork having some taste !!!
I guess some people think Sade is a solo star.
If I stop to think about it, I know that Sade is a group but off the top of my head I'd probably forget and assume she's a solo artist.
OneRepublic have released some great songs but I always felt like Ryan Tedder wrote better songs for other people.
I know I didn't vote for them but I definitely thought the Bee Gees would finish higher than that!
Bee Gees deserved much more on here but this is Buzzjack and I'm not surprised at all.
My fave of theirs is You Win Again, I think it has aged very well.
Time for that 30 pointer then.......
poor Sade :/ they're the slowest working band ever with their last 3 albums coming out in 92 (Love Deluxe), 2000 (Lovers rock) and 2010 (Soldier of Love)
but still make extraordinary music.
OneRepublic have a couple good songs + much better songs given to others, but sure I don't see OneRepublic releasing a song like Halo
Not the biggest fan of Bee Gees sorry...

BIGGEST UK HIT: WHOLE AGAIN (#1, 2001) ETERNAL FLAME (#1, 2001) THE TIDE IS HIGH (GET THE FEELING) (#1, 2002)
The Corrs were close to getting points from me - I'm just not so keen on their albums post-1999
Holding back the years? I'm sorry, but I say no to Simply Red.
I would like to see much more groups from the 2000s in this countdown tbh. I think the only ones were voted by me.
'Stars' is a pretty good album but I'm not a huge fan of Simply Red outside of that album and a couple of other singles. I always hated 'Fairground', how it made #1 I'll never know
Atomic Kitten's first album was fun and one I still go back to occasionally, but their murder of 'Eternal Flame' will always remain one of the biggest crimes against music.
The Corrs released some pretty good songs in their time, I would have happily seen them a little higher in this countdown.
I assumed AK would be higher on this site .
The corrs were huge for a couple of years !!
Stars and A New Flame were huge. Mick has a great voice !
Fairgrpound was #1 cos it was the first thing Simply Red released after Stars
same as why The Corrs-Breathless was #1
Omg that's a triple whammy for me, love all 3. Forgot to vote for The Corrs but they are brilliant.
Simply Red are great too, didn't expect to see them this high
And Atomic Kitten had some great songs, Natasha is amazing singer.

BIGGEST UK HIT: MY NUMBER (#23, 2013)
poor Cranberries, personally one of the best bands in the history of music
can't believe only 3 people in total voted for them :/
The Cranberries were great, loved their first three albums. 'Zombie' is hands down one of the best songs released in the 90s
N*Sync were a poor man's Backstreet Boys and I only really liked a couple of their singles (basically anything written by Max Martin!)
Much love for most of Foals' discography, haven't personally been into their last 2 albums as much save for a couple of highlight songs (but that seems to be just me as the critics love them as much if not more than ever). Their best song wasn't a chart hit though - the glorious 'Spanish Sahara' 'My Number' is a decent enough track to be their biggest hit although also far from their best (I prefer both of their other top 40 hits).

BIGGEST UK HIT: I DON’T WANNA MISS A THING (#4, 1998)
And ANOTHER 30 pointer tomorrow!
love Eurythmics, so many classics. Aerosmith also have a few great songs, but for me that Armageddon song was a career low
The Cranberries are great, from the songs I've heard. I need to have a listen to more of their stuff.
NSync had some good ones. Don't know much about Foals.
Eurythmics are fantastic, another one I forgot to vote for.
I loved MCRs first album but not much after that.
Aerosmith one of the all time greats. And one of my highest rated ones. Definitely one of my best ever rock bands. Would have liked to see them top 50.
A while since the votes now so unsure if I left Foals out due to 1) forgetting 2) not considering them on the basis I didn't think they'd been in the top 40 3) deciding to rank below 30 because I find them a bit more meh with every release
Very happy that my 30 pointer has made the top 75
Eurythmics were close to getting points from me .
I can't remember who I voted for! I think there's quite a few of mine to come. There's a lot more rock/indie bands in this countdown than I expected.
I only had 11 left when the top 100 started but I've only lost one since then.
Eurythmics did some great singles but I never liked them enough to buy one of their albums.
Aerosmith have some classics in their discography! 'Crazy' and 'Cryin' are probably my two favourites
I was never huge on Eurythmics although they've done some good songs I guess.
Haven't had any of mine go out for a while, I'm happy I've still got so many left to come!
Surprised only 3 people voted for My Chemical Romance

oh I used to be a big Garbage fan, oops forgot to vote for them but got most of their albums and even seen them live
their first couple albums were incredible
Not too many voters but some high scores rightly awarded
Love all of the last 3 bands
Garbage were anything but! First two albums were fantastic and the third one had some great songs on it too.
Thought Duran Duran would have got a slightly better showing than that, being possibly THE defining band of the 80s.
Going into the Top 70 I've still got 19 of my 30 left by my reckoning, I'm excited to see where they end up!
I am disappointed to lose my 30-pointer (Eurythmics) at this stage of the game.
i thought Garbage(my 30 pointer) and Duran Duran would end up higher... so gutted...

Yess for Paramore (and their best song actually surprisingly being their highest charting song!)
Bastille one of my favourite bands of the last 10 years, they very narrowly missed out on points from me. Their debut album is amazing and I still listen to it regularly.
Suede are one of best indie bands out there but they're more of a singles band for me rather than album band (having said that 'Coming Up' is a brilliant album, not a bad song on it).
Suede were one of the best bands of the 90s, one of the best debut albums ever
Bastille have sadly been a major let down after such an incredible start with Flaws and Pompeii. After that they were incapable of writing a great song again, kinda lost hope
There isn't a bad track on any of the first three Suede albums
I was devastated not to manage to squeeze Bastille and Suede into my TOP 30.
Oh wow I gave Paramore the most points! The 'Riot!' and 'Brand New Eyes' eras in particular were incredible.
I agree with others that Bastille peaked with their first era. It says a lot that 'Happier', the Marshmello collab, is my favourite thing they've been involved with by far since.
Yeah I haven't really been enthused by much from Bastille beyond their first album either unfortunately D:

BIGGEST UK HIT: DEBASER (#23, 1997)
2 acts in a row there who had one low top 40 hit as lead artist and then a top 10 hit as a feature! (Also would have voted for both of them and both deserve to have done far better - CHVRCHES had my favourite song of 2019 with 'Death Stranding', I wasn't expecting them to ever top 'The Mother We Share' for me but they only went and did it ~)
Not particularly familiar with Pixies but I do love 'Where Is My Mind?' by them (thanks Chez in BJSC x).
CHVRCHES are ok, but the other 2 I don't know.
Great to see Chvrches here, I was worried they had missed out - they would've scored another 15 points from me
Last 5/6 don't really do anything for me, but I guess nice to see a nice mix and not just one genre of band
Three whole weeks, 39 points and 85 places since my last nomination to be eliminated, I lose the next one and I have 22 of them in the top 65 *.*
I'm so glad Pixies got some other high votes - they're the only of my nominations never to have had a Top 20 single and none have charted since the 90s. Where Is My Mind is their best known song, but my favourites are Debaser, Velouria, and especially Monkey Gone To Heaven - whose lyrics sadly seem increasingly apt in 2020. They were truly one of a kind - oh and Kurt Cobain liked them too, apparently.
If I'd got around to voting, Suede would have an extra ~25 points.
Bon Iver are another one of those bands that I've never got the fuss for (I'm too uncultured to get them, or whatever).
I'm not that familiar with the Pixies outside of their most well known couple of songs.
CHVRCHES are great, can't believe they've had so few actual hits. 'Get Out' should have been a big Top 10 single!
Bon Iver's first two albums are superb but the move away from the sound just alienated me completely - have only been able to get into the occasional song since and even then it's nowhere near as much. The recent features on Exile and the Japanese House's 'Dionne' make me long for that sound so much
Love Pixies - they're a band I feel I should investigate more of tbf as don't know lots of their catalogue, Doolittle up there with my favourite albums of all time.

BIGGEST UK HIT: WORK FROM HOME (#2, 2016)
I quite like Years & Years in general but their biggest hits are all of their worst songs imo. Yes, I'm alone in this opinion xx
Placebo are another band I largely only know for one great song - 'Pure Morning' (I like their cover of 'Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)' as well).
Placebo are fantastic, they probably would have been in mine if we had a larger number to vote for.
Years and Years are OK but they don't have many songs I'd regularly listen to.
Fifth Harmony one of the most overrsted girlbands, prefer stuff they have done solo since tbh
I though years and years would be much higher !
oh my 30 gone, poor Bon Iver. Foe Emma Forever Ago might be in the top 3 best albums in the history of music with incredubike
songs like Flume, re:Stacks, the Wolves and of course Skinny Love, which is not a Birdy cover
Exile is also the best song of the last 5 years by a million miles!
also used to be the biggest Pixies fan as a kid. Doolittle is also a classic of classics album with songs like Debaser, Monkey gone to Heaven,
Gouge away, Here comes your man,... if it weren't for Pixies, Nirvana would have never existed.
Placebo I also loved. The first 5 albums were all incredible, especially 1, 2 & 4, later albums are a bit of a let down, but that happens to most bands.
But they got incredible singles like Pure Morning, Nancy Boy, The Bitter End, This Picture, Every you every me...
Sad to see those 3 gone, but actually amazed Bon Iver got so far. Was expecting no one else voting for them.
^Oh Well, I totally disagree!
shock

Saint Etienne!!!!! They’ve done really well
Also for Roxette.
Oh! I wasn't expecting to see Five top 60 here but I'm really pleased!
They released some amazing singles like: Everybody Get Up, If Ya Gettin' Down and my absolutely fave Keep on Movin'
EDIT: 5 is the only group with that 34+35 total points.
Awww two of my top 10 there
Roxette were the soundtrack to my 90s and I fully expected them to be this high. But Saint Etienne, I didn't even think they'd make the top 100 let alone number 59!!! I'm so happy to see they have a few other fans on Buzzjack 'You're In A Bad Way', 'Who Do You Think You Are', 'Join Our Club', 'Pale Movie', 'He's On The Phone', all of those are 11/10s for me! Seriously if you're not familiar with Saint Etienne and you love cute, kitsch pop music, check out Too Young To Die (their greatest hits).
i thought Roxette would be higher... one of the greatest bands in history...
looks like I forgot to vote for S Etienne love them since day 1 when they released their first single, such a great under-rated band
I especially love their early singles like You're in a Bad Way, Join Our Club, Who do you think you are.
Roxette were also amazing, it's almost 1 year since Marie passed away :/
Roxette had 18 hits !!
I only know two !
Only two?!!!! Surely not!
sure you know The Look, It must have been love, Joyride, Fading like a flower,
Dressed for success, Listen to your heart, Sleeping in my car,
all those were huge
The look and IMOBL
That’s all
Thought they were a flash in the pan act.
Wonderful to see Saint Etienne so high - they have so many great songs!

BIGGEST UK HIT: WHAT I’VE DONE (#6, 2007)
Sorry I dropped a 30 pointer without warning!
Three great groups there. RHCP and Linkin Park are two classic rock bands that I listen to a lot. Daft Punk have got some tunes, even if 'Get Lucky' is a tad over-rated.
love Daft Punk, they have never disappointed, unlike many other acts, and always delivered in all their 4 albums
so many great tracks from the early days with Da Funk and Around the World to Get Lucky... crazy how long it's been since that! they need to come back!
RHCP and Linkin Park I do like them and both have classic songs but they're nowhere near my favourites
