BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Week Beginning 10/11/14 No1 single?

Posted by: steve201 Nov 6 2014, 10:33 AM

Who will be No1 in the singles chart next week - ultra competitive!!

Posted by: Rob S Nov 6 2014, 10:36 AM

Ed or Calvin maybe or Gareth Malone judging by the pre order performance. Can't see Tom Odell getting to #1 with this. Although top 10 should be certain.

Posted by: gavindeejay Nov 6 2014, 10:37 AM

It's between Gareth Malone and Tom Odell. I'm rooting for Tom Odell. It would be good to see him get his first Number 1. smile.gif

Posted by: Rob S Nov 6 2014, 10:48 AM

Ok maybe Tom Odell might have a shot at top 2 with the record company pulling out all the stops.

Posted by: CherylStyles Nov 6 2014, 10:51 AM

I would absolutely LOVE it to be Tom Odell, him getting a #1 would be such a fantastic moment, can't see it though. Probably Ed but it's wide open!

Posted by: Rush Nov 6 2014, 10:54 AM

I predict Thinking Out Loud to ruin all the fun of a competitive week magic.gif

Posted by: Eric_Blob Nov 6 2014, 10:59 AM

The #1 will probably be Ed Sheeran imo.

Wouldn't rule out Tom though since the John Lewis song got #1 pretty fast last year iirc. Could be Gareth's song, but charity songs tend to not do that well recently.

Will probably be: Ed Sheeran (wouldn't rule out Gareth Malone though....*shivers*)

Deserves to be: Kendrick Lamar (I'd be over the moon if he gets top 40 at least tho)

but indeed nice that things are looking a little more competitive now. Tom Odell and The Veronicas will be likely top 10 entries (and Sam Smith too after his XF performance). The week after looks even more interesting with Olly Murs, Clean Bandit and David Guetta tossed into the mix

And especially since Guetta has released something mildly interesting with Dangerous. Although both him & Clean Bandit have been hammered for a month on radio 1 already, seems like they should have been released already!

I bet The Veronicas end up at No.11 or something with all this last minute stuff appearing... drama.gif

Whatever it is, it will be hideous.

Anything but Ed Sheeran would be great but sadly I think Cheryl could do it this week and Ed the week after sad.gif

I'd love to see the CIN track get to number one and seeing as its CIN night that Friday it could give it a weekend boost and the TV show concludes on Monday night so I think it's got a chance

Posted by: { bré } Nov 6 2014, 04:37 PM

I'm quite convinced Gareth Malone et al are going to do it, especially with the TV programme on Monday (the similar programme for 'Sing' propelled it from its rather average first week to massive sales at #1 in its second). CIN will give it another boost at the end of the week too. Failing that Tom Odell could be in with a decent shot.

Posted by: liamk97 Nov 6 2014, 05:04 PM

Going by the previous two John Lewis songs, if Tom Odell gets #1 it will be on the week before Christmas with low sales.

As for the #1 next week, probably Ed Sheeran if it's not the Children in Need single. I'd probably rather Ed Sheeran take it as I'm not keen on this version of 'Wake Me Up' and I can't see it hanging around very long at all.

Voted Thinking Out Loud - surely the song that will dominate the rest of 2014. Think it will still be top 10 in February/March time.

Posted by: hotchoc26 Nov 6 2014, 05:40 PM

Can I change my vote? sad.gif

Posted by: Red. Nov 6 2014, 05:55 PM

I want it to be Outside so I voted for that. It wont though so I am not fussed on any of the others

Looking at the list of pre orders I can see Gareth Malone and others taking it, I don't think the John Lewis track is really that good when compared to previous years, and as Bre said there is the second part of the Gareth Malone thingy on Monday. Mind you I can't see the track having a long chart run, a la Ellie Goulding style from last year.

Probably the week after Calvin might get a shot, this is the period when sales are pretty low as well as Liam hit on above, as I remember the Katie Melua track was released around this time a couple of years back.

I wonder if Rihanna drops anything soon ohmy.gif

Lily Allen got to #1 before that week (then went back to #1 for two more weeks during the sales lull).

I completely forgot it spent more than a week at #1, but now you mention it I do remember how it spent 2 weeks at #6 immediately after two at #1 which everyone thought was unusual.

Gareth Malone seems to have selling power with his records so I'm gonna say him - Can't imagine how this will sound, but Jo Brand featuring on a number 1 *.*

I heard somewhere that she's performing on X Factor this year? It's a possibility!

My best guess is Ed Sheeran. The Gareth Malone track could prove to do well but with it being a charity track it'll be front loaded and won't get a lot of streams. Tom Odell possibly as it'll get a big effect from the X Factor showing. Will be an interesting battle.

It won't be frontloaded though as the CIN show is on on Friday.

Hopefully either Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith or Calvin/Ellie.

Absolutely hate these John Lewis adverts, and generally anything that feels the need to murder an already known and perfectly fine song by (usually) picking a female artist and ask her to sing it as slow and dreary as possible. (The X Factor and yes, even Children In Need etc.) sick2.gif

Why, oh why can't they have a bit of originality and some effort to put together a new song and save tainting the memory of others.

I will never forgive the above culprits for 'Cannonball', 'Run', 'Somewhere Only We Know', 'Hallelujah', 'Teardrop', 'Wake Me Up'.

Cover 'Mr. Brightside' and 'A Design For Life' and be done with it. rolleyes.gif

The only time this has ever worked is 'Perfect Day'.

Buy the original and in the case of charities, donate straight to the charity itself.

I'm just grateful that this year it's an artist who I like and a song I had no previous opinion on. But if 'Another Love' can't achieve it then this certainly doesn't deserve to...

Rant over. sleep.gif

My final word is maybe Ed?!

So I Don't Care/The Veronicas have more chance of being #1 than AATB climbing? ohmy.gif
