Robbie Williams is in the Newcy Brown video,” Mr Methane told me. “I think that was his first taste of the music business. He was a big Macc Lads fan. His dad was – still is – a singer called Pete Conway – a Sinatra type crooner. If you go to an over-50s hotel, he’ll be there singing Spanish Eyes or something.

“Like Amy Winehouse learned off her dad, I guess Robbie Williams learned off his dad about singing but, in the early days, it wasn’t working out for him. Robbie was struggling. I remember his dad sent him down to Stoke railway station for a job. But it was the early 1990s and there was a recession, so they weren’t taking on staff.

“So he went away and, a few months later, he got the gig with Take That. Whether he got it on the basis of being in a Macc Lads video, I wouldn’t know.

“The Newcy Brown video is a segment of a whole bigger video of different tunes. I was in a tune called Mr Methane where I solve all the world’s problems – You ring me up and I fart down the telephone.”

“You’re well known for your ring,” I said.

Mr Methane did not react.

“I sort out German unity,” he continued, “and I tell you with a fart who will win the 2 o’clock at York racecourse. At the time, it wasn’t the high point of my career but, because the Macc Lads have got such a strong fanbase and it’s so cult, people are always telling me: It must have been incredible when you were on tour with the Macc Lads. It must have been fantastic!

“At the time, I just remember we were all very young, so everyone had big strong egos and wanted to be top of the pile.

“I think their downfall was that Oasis took it to the mainstream. Oasis behaved like a real Macc Lads. They were real working class and did the whole rock carry-on, so really the Macc Lads became very tame… And then your rap artists had all these horrible, sexist lyrics contained within the culture of their whole thing. So the Macc Lads weren’t shocking any more.”

She's Back! Lily Allen Records Duet With Robbie Williams In Just 30 Minutes . The mum-of-two is back to the day job after a four year hiatus 23 rd September 2013




Lily Allen has been working hard on a musical comeback, but admits her collaboration with Robbie Williams only took half an hour.

The 'Smile' hit-maker proved she is no longer rusty in the studio following her four year hiatus from music - during which time she welcomed her daughters, 22-month-old Ethel and nine-month-old Marnie with husband Sam Cooper - as she whipped up a track for the former Take That star's new album in just 30 minutes.

She told Britain's Hello! magazine, "Robbie's a really sweet guy. Really humble. I just worked with him. It was really quick, actually - we just met up in the studio and then left. I think it took us half an hour."

As part of her highly-anticipated comeback, Lily had contributed vocals for a cover version of the 1931 classic by Fabian Andre and Wilbur Schwandt, 'Dream a Little Dream'.

The 28-year-old singer has seemingly been itching to get back in the studio as she recently announced she would be releasing her new material under her maiden name after she became addressed as Lily Rose Cooper when she married her husband in 2011

Radio 1 boss: 'Green Day not good enough to make playlist'

BBC Radio 1 bosses have discussed the music that failed to make the station's playlist.

Music policy director Nigel Harding and head of music George Ergatoudis spoke about their recent decisions on who to leave out, including Robbie Williams, Muse, Noel Gallagher and Green Day.


Harding told Music Week: "I think Noel's music feels more at home on Radio 2."

He also mentioned Green Day's latest album trilogy Uno!, Dos! and Tre!. He said of the band, who recently headlined Reading festival: "The last Green Day project simply wasn't good enough."

On the decision not to play 'Panic Station' by Muse, he said: "Muse are approaching a crossroads - their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade. The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."

When asked why the station would not play Robbie Williams single 'Candy', but would play his Dizzee Rascal collaboration 'Goin' Crazy', Harding explained: "This is all about the age of the artist's primary audience.

"In Robbie's case we believe that his main fan base is comfortably over the age of 30, whereas Dizzee's is clearly much lower."

DOES THE RADIO 1 PLAYLIST MATTER ANY MORE !!


Green Day and Muse are being given the boot, but who actually cares !!


Last week, the head of music at BBC Radio One, George Ergatoudis stated that recent releases from Green Day just weren’t good enough to make the Radio 1 playlist cut and that Muse are on a fine line as to whether or not they’ll be playlisted ever again.


But when you think that Green Day headlined Reading & Leeds this year and Muse spent the summer selling out stadiums across Europe does it really matter if they don’t make the Radio 1 playlist?

Radio 1 often come under criticism with their choices of what does and doesn’t make the A list, as let’s face it the majority of the time it’s full of utter garbage that SOMEHOW sells a bazillion records. Saying that however, as you look further down the lists – in particular the C list and the In New Music We Trust playlist, you finally stumble across the alternative newcomers that do rely on airplay to help them succeed. If Radio 1 refuse to play the 'older' bands then surely they should use their time to help boost the struggling non-mainstream acts?


Radio 1’s target audience is focused around those between the ages of 14-25 so it’s understandable that they choose to play what they feel is going to appeal to the teeny boppers of today. It’s also not a lie to say that, with the likes of Muse celebrating their 20th anniversary and Noel Gallagher fans having grown up with Oasis in the nineties, the people that support their music are also more than likely to be of an age where listening to Radio 1 makes them want to vomit a little.

Ergatoudis also commented that Noel Gallagher's music is much better suited to BBC Radio 2, which yes, it probably is, but is there really a reason to make that sound like a downgrade? Particularly when you have respected DJ's such as Jo Whiley now broadcasting Radio 2, offering opportunities to bands and artists of all levels and ages. Plus, you don't have to sit and listen to Nick Grimshaw, which is always a bonus.

A good example of how pointless the playlist can be at times, is when Robbie Williams made his comeback late last year with single 'Candy'. The song was denied the Radio 1 playlist, but that actually made it to the top of the charts, giving Robbie his first Number 1 in eight years.

While it's agreeable that Green Day's latest music offerings haven't exactly been satisfactory, does being kicked out of the Radio 1 club show the route for all 'stadium rockers' of the future? Are Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Biffy Clyro deserving of the same destiny? Does anyone actually still care what Radio 1 think when they can sell out a tour in 10 minutes? Probably not.

Robbie Williams 'gutted' by R1 snub


Pop star Robbie Williams says he is "gutted" that BBC Radio 1 no longer plays his records.

"I'm very ambitious," he told BBC Radio 4's Mastertapes programme. "So when Radio 1 goes and is taken away from you, a huge bit of your arsenal goes."

"It's your main oxygen to get your stuff out there."

Radio 1 failed to put Williams' number one single Candy on their playlist last year, but his recent collaboration with Dizzee Rascal did make it on the air.

The star's new swing album, Swings Both Ways, is unlikely to be a fixture on the station.

Radio 1's breakfast DJ Nick Grimshaw previously said Williams, 39, was "not relevant" to his target audience of 15-29 year olds.

"I liked Take That when I was little, but I'm not little anymore," he told Five news.

"I don't know if he's now for a Radio 1 audience."

The station's head of music has also said rock groups Green Day and Muse may have outgrown the station.

"The last Green Day project simply wasn't good enough," George Ergatoudis told trade magazine Music Week.

Muse, meanwhile "are approaching a crossroads" - their last single was the first one not playlisted by Radio 1 in a decade.

"The door remains open to them but we'll have to think carefully about their next album."

Speaking to John Wilson, Williams admitted he was jealous of the younger pop stars who are guaranteed airplay, including One Direction's Harry Styles.

"He's talented, he's good looking. He could have it away," said Williams.

"And I'll be sat here saying 'damn him'.

But, he continued, "everybody who's anybody has been competitive and over-sensitive and a bit silly".

"Look at Paul McCartney, look at Elton John. They're jealous of Justin Timberlake. I'm sure they were jealous of me when I was in my imperial phase."

The Mastertapes series looks at a classic album in depth - in this instance Life Thru A Lens, Williams' debut record.

Released in 1997, the album featured the hit singles Angels and Let Me Entertain You.

In the wide-ranging interview, he discussed how the album was recorded in the depths of the alcohol-fuelled depression that followed his exit from Take That.

Co-writer Guy Chambers recalled how Williams was often "too drunk to make it" to recording sessions.

"We were often trying to get him to do the vocal for Angels," he said. "That went on for weeks."

Williams also revealed that he could no longer take to the stage without a lyric sheet, after forgetting the words to Angels on a live edition of The X Factor in 2009.- Poor Robbie ;D

"It caused a chink in the armour," he admitted.

The third series of Mastertapes will be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in November.

Other guests include David Crosby, discussing his solo debut If I Could Only Remember My Name, and Soul II Soul, on 1989's influential Club Classics Vol 1.

Edwyn Collins and Natalie Merchant also take part.

Recorded at the BBC's Maida Vale studios, each artist also plays live tracks from the album under discussion.

Mastertapes: Robbie Williams A-Side will be broadcast on Monday, 11 November at 23:00, the B-Side programme will follow on 12 November at 15:30.

Top tip: Make it magical with fairy lights

Take a lead from Robbie and Ayda and fill your entertaining rooms with thousands of fairy lights. Far from being OTT, when I did this at their home it looked warm and magical. Also, snap up cheap strings of battery-operated lights to wrap around napkins, cushions and other unexpected places.

Decide on a colour scheme for the table. You could go for white and silver for a pretty winter wonderland look like the one William and Kate had. Or add a regal touch by laying a rich velvet runner over the middle of the cloth. Simply buy some inexpensive velvet from a fabric stall and, hey presto!

For a traditional look, choose a red or green velvet, or a Blackwatch green and navy tartan, then carry those colours through in the napkins — you can get gorgeous linen-feel ones from supermarkets for under a tenner.

A bowl of satsumas is a super simple and cheap table decoration, as are pine cones, twigs and berries you can collect in the park. While you’re at it, grab crunchy brown leaves and pile them into a glass vase with yet more fairy lights.

As for food, keep it simple but make it look beautiful. So, serve your turkey on a glittering gold plate, for example. And don’t stress over making dessert. Buy a Christmas or sticky toffee pud and put spoonfuls into shot glasses topped with whatever you fancy.

Thanks for that Tess - I've not seen that before. I think when he promotes an album - there's always so much to watch each day that I end up missing some performances completely.

It's a beautiful song but I find it very sad. I quite often skip it on the album. It's a little bit too poignant. Gorgeous lyrics though.

I was going to say - how can he tour a Christmas album on a summer tour - but he only picks a couple of songs from any new album anyway (more's the pity) so it will hardly make a difference.

Sounds like a tour is planned for 2020 anyway.

Guy Chambers has opened up on his famous songwriting partnership with Robbie Williams in a new interview with Music Week.

The duo produced a cavalcade of hit singles, including Angels, Let Me Entertain You, Feel, Millennium and Rock DJ, to name but a few, and the mega-selling albums I’ve Been Expecting You (2,596,136 sales), Sing When You’re Winning (2,212,661 sales) and Escapology (2,087,465 sales), before parting ways in 2002.

The pair later reunited for 2013’s Swings Both Ways (745,167 sales) and 2016’s The Heavy Entertainment Show (352,170 sales), and are currently working on Williams’ new album, along with the score for a musical based on David Walliams’ The Boy In The Dress.

“We are opposites as people, so we complement one another’s blind spots or weaknesses," said Chambers, speaking in this week's special songwriting issue. "He’s completely obsessed with words – lyrics are his passion, he loves rap battles and things like that – and I’m very passionate about the more musical composition, production side.

"People don’t often talk about what a great singer he is, but as soon as he sings a melody it enhances it a million times.”

Chambers recalled his first meeting with Williams at his flat in Archway, North London, which was brokered by then BMG Music Publishing chief Paul Curran.

"I had a little bedroom studio and we wrote [Life Thru A Lens single] South Of The Border on the first day. One of the first lines he sang to me had the word ‘cocaine’ in it and I thought, ‘Wow, he screams rock‘n’roll, he doesn’t care’ and I immediately liked that about him. Robbie Williams was willing to be who he really wanted to be, he was brave.

Chambers’ first solo LP, Go Gentle Into The Light, came out via BMG on May 3. Recorded in a single session at Abbey Road Studios, the album features Chambers playing 11 of his classic songs as piano instrumentals. Lead single The Road To Mandalay has been streamed more than 2.5 million times on Spotify.

“I was hoping that people would like it and find it useful in their lives as a relaxation tool, more than it becoming a huge record,” he says. “My main driver was actually my mother; she’d been saying for years that I should make a solo album and when she passed away two years ago it seemed like I should do it for her.”

For some of you, it might be difficult to comprehend that Robbie Williams was quite literally the biggest pop star in the UK and parts of Europe. With a hallmark homecoming performance at Barclaycard presents British Summer Time Hyde Park 2019 as well as an upcoming headline slot at Romania's gargantuan Untold Festival, it still proves he has the credentials, and extensive back catalogue, to warrant such postures.

Arguably his finest hour, however, was joining an illustrious legion of contemporary British legends like Led Zeppelin, Oasis, The Rolling Stones, Queen, and Pink Floyd in headlining Knebworth Festival, back in 2003. The intermittently recurring festival, held in the regal grounds of Knebworth House, has regularly welcomed in excess of 125,000 on each occasion. Well, Williams at the height of his post-Millenium popularity sold out three consecutive dates, performing for a total of 375,000 across the duration. Mind-boggling figures.



The adoring masses rose to fever-pitch throughout the day as a mish-mash of support artists in Moby, The Darkness, and Kelly Osbourne took the stage before the crowning jewel of British pop music entered the fray; curtains branded with his initials withdrew to reveal William suspended upside down, arms stretched out wide in a faux-crucifixion position to begin proceedings. Cue pandemonium.

As the iconic opening piano chords of 'Let Me Entertain You' rang out, Robbie with his well-loved cheeky bravado burst onto the stage and after a couple of anthemic choruses announced himself: "My name is Robbie Williams. This is my band. And for the next two hours, your ass is mine." 125,000 asses to be precise were bombarded with a hit-laden set featuring what are now stone-cold classics, such as 'Come Undone', 'She's The One', 'Rock DJ', the list goes on.

It's strange to comprehend that on the cusp of the 21st century, Williams was consistently in the charts with back-to-back bangers, proving his mettle as a contemporary pop icon. The sheer demand from his faithful UK fanbase to see him at the peak of his powers ensured that his Knebworth performance was groundbreaking, era-defining, and truly legendary. Once his frenetic two-hour set came to an end, the prodigal son returned with 'Angels' as the encore. What else?

and I can remember trying for hours to get tickets for Knebworth and not even being surprised that he had sold out three days.

In a way it is hard to remember just how big he was at his peak.

His record of 1.6 million tickets in a single day from 2005 still stands. You would think Ed Sheeran would have beaten that by now.

I am wondering how it feels if you have been THAT popular and see others taking over your crown.
I am also wondering how huge he would be if social media had already existed or if he would have been huge as back then he was not that approachable.

Rob is still on the way, he can still sell out huge dates and convince with his performance and maybe soon we see him doing something different again in TV.

In terms of Knebworth I dont' thnk anyone took his crown...see the stats in this link , Robbie is right up there ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concerts_at_Knebworth_House. I am not sure if he could do the same these days but maybe he might not want to, Knebworth was special for him & for everyone that was there , I think he might well want to remember it that way .

I think social media must be a dream for him , he has access to his fans without him actually having to meet them face to face all the time unless it's a M & G at one of his show

Robbie for me is a special performer, he's not afraid to try new things, win or lose, I love him for that ..

I’ve got a few things wrong, a few regrets. I did one video for Robbie [Williams] recently [Love My Life]. I did this a shoot on a beach. Anyway, Guy Chambers [producer] said to me, ‘did Robbie cry?’. I said, ‘no, why?’. Turns out it was a very emotional song for him and I had no idea, and I’d done this video on a beach; classic Robbie with girls and stuff. It's one of the only times I've misunderstood the meaning of a track. I phoned up the management and asked to reshoot the video.

Following exiled oligarch Robbie and his endless swagger around a massive mansion, the singer struts his stuff, surrounded by a carousel of devilish ballerinas and tiara-wearing ballroom dancers. With the song's cheeky sampling from Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights, Robbie seems to both parody Russia's corrupt state of affairs while simultaneously suggesting we should take some tips from them, and party with abandon.

And Vaughan is still Robbie's perfect foil. Supported by a top-notch crew – including DoP Tat Radcliffe, art director Alison Dominitz and choreographer Ashley Wallen – he orchestrates this ridiculous, eyepopping business to a tee.

I haven't heard "Back for Good" in at least 20 years and I still know the bridge and chorus by heart, which is an indication of a really f***ing good song.

Guess I was one of the only Americans to own all three of his albums. I played them a lot. He had some very good songs...And he sang with an American accent, so I'm not sure about the accuracy of the "too British" theories regarding his lack of success here. Maybe it was an image thing? Who knows. But for those who like mainstream leaning pop-rock with a bit of an edge, I definitely recommend checking out his stuff.

I am an unabashed fan of Robbie, though I have not really listened to anything new he has released in over a decade. Here in Australia, the first two albums were combined into one release: The Ego Has Landed. That album, plus Sing When Your Winning, got a lot of play on the CD player of my Holden Astra. I saw him live in Melbourne at the end of 2001 - I may or may not have gone to the show with my ex-girlfriend in the dim hope of winning back said ex-girlfriend - and it was a killer concert. Purely for entertainment value, at the time it was one of the best concerts I had seen. I was in London in 2003, but did not make it to his Knebworth shows. If you want an understanding of what Robbie meant to the U.K. at that time, check out some of the footage of that Knebworth concert (I have the DVD if you want to borrow it). It is awesome.

But to just about anyone, the conversation would inevitably flit between, “No, not Mrs. Doubtfire...” to “Okay, you know in the credits of Finding Nemo when they cover Beyond the Sea?” and finally, “Fine, let me just pull up this boy band video. I used to follow the UK charts and noticed this singer Robbie Williams was always topping the lists. When I read that his Knebworth gig attracted 375,000 over 3 nights and was just released on DVD, I had to find out what I was missing. I was blown away. It still remains the best concert I’ve never attended. Odds were slim he’d never come to the states, so I scored tickets to his 2006 Close Encounter tour at Corke Park in Dublin along with my Niece, Nephew and a Robbie fan from work. He did finally make it to the states this year with a sold out residency at the Wynn which proved to be a warmup for headlining Hyde Park.

I remember "Millennium" being catchy when it came out, and"Angels" failed to make an impression, but "Let Me Entertain You" was my favorite of his American releases from "The Ego Has Landed". That song alone had me anticipating his next album, and "Rock DJ" was a jam; "Kids" wasn't bad, either.

After that, I had to seek out "Escapeology" to hear anything, as the stations and TV I tuned in to weren't playing him. It was probably around that time when music publications started writing articles hypothesizing what went wrong with Williams' push for American stardom. I haven't heard much else from him.

Bieber is def yes.
At least 2 months ago he got his Number 1 single in UK.
He is still very young and would be great if he continues work hard. Never been his supporter but I wish any succusseful artists to have this success longer - it could be a great motivation for everybody never give up and find the new ways.

LOUIS Walsh has slammed Robbie Williams for bringing his wife Ayda to work, saying that she "doesn't have the X Factor".

The 67-year-old star did not hold back when asked about last year's judging line-up as he attended the launch for Celebrity X Factor earlier today.

He definitely would. He's a naturally curious man who is always interested in other people and what's going on in their lives.

When he says "talk me through it" - that's such a good phrase to get a conversation started. Especially a difficult conversation.

He always puts himself down as a narcissist - but his actions say otherwise.

Robbie Williams has been famous for 30 years - a career of many thrilling peaks and a few miserable troughs. Now back with a new album, he discusses self-esteem, social-media spats and settling down

Ten years ago, Robbie Williams had just bought a house in a village in Wiltshire. He’d been in retirement from pop stardom for a couple of years – though not everyone was aware of it – vegetating in Los Angeles with a beard and a kaftan, not doing very much at all except eating crisps and doughnuts and looking for UFOs.

At a recent football match in Brentford, the crowd had sung, ‘You’re not famous any more,’ so he thought it would probably be quite safe to go out to Devizes, the local market town, for a coffee. ‘Thirty people followed me back to the car, as if I was the village fete,’ he says now. ‘And it made the local newspaper.’

‘Pop star Robbie Williams has been seen out and about in Devizes today,’ read the article. ‘The singer, who is moving into a mansion near Calne, was out with his girlfriend and his dog in the town. He was spotted sitting on a wall outside the library. He later bought a drink in Costa Coffee. Have you seen Robbie? Send us the details and 
a picture…’

Williams tells me this little story in a small sitting room in the ‘mansion’, actually a lovely 18th-century house, where he and his family – his wife Ayda Field and their three children, Teddy, seven, Charlie, four, and Coco, 14 months – along with their quite large collection of staff, are holed up until early next year.

These days, he says, he only leaves the house for golf. Or the odd social occasion. Tonight, for example, he is going to Windsor’s Royal Lodge, home of Sarah Ferguson, for dinner.

Golf? Fergie? Is this the same Robbie Williams who once staggered to the house of fellow Take That member Gary Barlow after drinking a couple of Poco Locos (key ingredients: mescaline, ecstasy and acid), speaking in tongues and telling him he had found God?

It is. But actually, he admits, he’s still an addict, and golf is one of his many new addictions – relatively healthy ones, or more so than crack, anyway: Fifa, golf, boxing, computers, Football Manager. He just gets bored so easily.

At the moment golf is also his main form of exercise. ‘I walk 18 holes. And if you carry your bag – which I don’t – it burns 1,900 calories.’ He used to play when he was a teenager, but then stopped. ‘Now it’s become one of those things I’m totally addicted to, and I can spend three hours thinking about the next shot, and I wonder if they have golf in heaven – and then one day I just stop. And don’t play again for 12 years.’

Golf in heaven? Perhaps he really has found God – or perhaps the grown-up that he always suspected was lurking within him has emerged. ‘Nah, the grown-up hasn’t arrived. But he sometimes turns 
up when I have to discipline the kids. And 
it is the grown-up who has been faithful 
to his wife for 13 years.’

He is 45 now, clean and sober for a long while, and a lot has changed since the Poco Loco days. ‘But I’m always going to be a bit childlike and man-boyish.’

Williams lives mainly in Los Angeles but is here for two reasons: for the RSC’s musical adaptation of David Walliams’s book The Boy in the Dress, for which he and Guy Chambers, his long-time songwriting partner, have provided the music (with a little help from the writer Chris Heath); but chiefly to promote The Christmas Present, a double album that mixes seasonal cover songs and originals. It includes such festive stalwarts as Let it Snow, and a surprisingly palatable and matey big-band version of the execrable Slade hit Merry Xmas Everybody.

Jamie Cullum appears on that, just one guest appearance in a varied collection that includes Williams’s daughter Teddy and his dad Pete, along with Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and – weirdly – Tyson Fury, whom Williams met when he did a residency in Las Vegas. He had seen Fury sing after fights and enlisted him for the album.

Robbie Williams and Christmas is an obvious combination. ‘I haven’t made a Christmas album before because I’ve been interested in making the perfect pop record – or at least just getting better – by practising and practising and practising,’ he says. ‘But I’ve given up on that now.’

In the past 30 years, he has won a record 18 Brit Awards (including those for Take That), and has sold 80 million albums in his solo career alone. Now, he says, it’s about ‘building new doors to go through. My raison d’être for the last three years has been trying to write that record that stays around for ever.’

It’s a lofty ambition, but as he says, he’s fashioned a life out of unrealistic expectations, so why not carry on?

Christmas songs were a big thing in his childhood home. ‘They are the fabric of people’s lives,’ he says. Christmases growing up in Stoke must have been very different from the ones he has now. ‘My mum worked very hard to create memories for us and she did a fantastic job of it. My mum is from a council estate, and she got a loan to open her own shop in a wealthy area – we’re talking wealthy for Stoke-on-Trent, don’t get me wrong, it’s not Sloane Street – and gave us these memories at Christmas that I’ll have all my life.’

His parents divorced when he was three, and Williams was largely brought up by his mother, Janet, and his grandmother, his adored 'Nan', who ‘spoiled me with love. She just beamed acceptance and love at me all day.’ His father Pete, who lived nearby, was a club entertainer (and former policeman) who was obsessed with music, in particular Matt Monro. What was the festive season like?

‘I just remember the smell that emanated from the radiators,’ he says, 
a little oddly. ‘It was hot and the house felt soporific and womb-like, and there’d be 
a tree with tinsel and presents underneath 
– and I would take a razor blade and slit them slightly so I could have a look without anyone knowing.’

These days he is usually in LA for Christmas. ‘People think it’s strange to have Christmas in the sun but it has its own special seasonal energy. It becomes something completely different. Especially if you’ve got a wife like mine who is the embodiment of the Christmas spirit, who is incredibly romantic and whimsical and proficient at creating memories too. The wife loves it, and our house looks like Blackpool Illuminations, with nodding reindeers and waving Santas and three Christmas trees – we’re the most illuminated people in Beverly Hills.’

The wife. That would be Ayda Field, an American actor whom Williams met in 2006 – during a particularly arduous drug binge – and married in 2010. (Their dogs were her bridesmaids.) He loves her. Boy does he love her. The praise pours out of him: ‘She’s incredibly trustworthy, incredibly smart, incredibly funny, incredibly interesting to look at. I never get used to seeing that face – and it always changes. She’s my cheerleader and she’s 
got my best interests at heart. And we’re very comfortable in each other’s company.’

Field is quite dry. ‘She’s got a British sense of humour – she totally gets irony. She’s naughty, she’s rude and she’s vulgar – not in public, but she is.’ He looks thoughtful. ‘She says “dickhead” really well.’

In 2016 she joined Loose Women, ITV’s lunchtime chat show, and having been around Williams for a while came out with a lot of expressions that might not be considered suitable for daytime television: ‘Bollocks,’ ‘It’s pissing it down,’ and so on. (They are a sweary household.

Williams is fond of telling a story about a time he took his then three-year-old daughter to play in the shared private garden of their house in London, where he had to ask some nannies to delete photographs they’d taken of Teddy. Walking back to the house with her he muttered, ‘F—king idiots,’ under his breath – and with a cheery wave, Teddy turned to the nannies and called, ‘Bye f—king idiots!’)

In 2018, Williams and Field were on the X Factor judging panel together, along with One Direction’s Louis Tomlinson and Simon Cowell; Louis Walsh had stepped down. But earlier this year Walsh gave an interview to The Sun criticising the decision for Field to join Williams on the panel, saying, ‘There was no X factor,’ and, ‘You don’t bring your wife to work.’

They responded with a sharp little video posted on Instagram, in which Field squeals, ‘Oh, please take me with you!’ when Williams says he’s going to work, and then confuses a picture of Ann Widdecombe for one of Walsh.

It was funny, and fairly light-hearted revenge, but the truth is that Williams was very upset when he read Walsh’s comments. ‘When people say things about me, I get really angry and want to get them back, but when it’s about your family, it’s a whole other realm, and 
I had an absolute f—king panic attack.’

During their X Factor run, the couple had been goaded, he says, into ‘being mean about Louis’ by the producers on the show, ‘but we had no reason to, and so we were having none of it’. And Walsh had met Field, Williams continues, and even told her ‘that she was extremely talented, and too good for Loose Women, so…’

Revenge, these days, is dangerously easy to execute. Social media gives you so many options, but its impact can be out of proportion to the original slight. What did Williams think about the Rooney/Vardy debacle?

‘There was a dramatic overcorrection,’ he says. ‘Let’s say Rebekah Vardy was guilty – which we don’t know. How she will feel inside right now is 10 times worse than how Coleen Rooney would have felt when those things were happening to her. It’s a dangerous game to play.

‘I get it. I’ve fed stories to different people – fortunately those stories did not make 
the press, so I went on trusting them, but 
I understand Coleen Rooney’s need for revenge and I would probably have done the same thing. But we have to be very careful. It’s suicide-causing – provoking those levels of shame.’


Once something’s out there, he says, it’s beyond your control. ‘It becomes a 16-
headed monster.’

Williams is a man who knows about shame. It is one reason he is not allowed to know his own Twitter password: he banned himself. But not long ago someone on his staff – a new person who didn’t know the rules – gave it to him and he had a 48-hour binge. ‘And I became engulfed with resentment and anger and shame and fear and all those things. Then I was on a plane to Majorca and I phoned my manager and said’ – theatrical whisper – ‘“I’ve found my password – change it and don’t give me the new one.” He said, “Oh no, what have you done?” and I said, “Just do it. I’m one tweet away from a career-ender.”

‘Because in anger I can be quite creative and my aggression would serve me badly.’

In what way? ‘There would be people who were showing their disdain,’ he says darkly. ‘And I’d go and find them and show my disdain back. And then I’d turn into 
a self-lacerating hate machine.’

But, he says seriously, ‘I don’t understand why I’m drawn like a magnet to try and find out why my deepest fears about myself are true. It’s as if I constantly need to bolster the self-hatred.’

He is not as affected by it as he used to be. ‘But it just becomes part of your daily routine: cup of tea, go for a wee, hate yourself.’

Don’t you relish any of the good things you read about yourself? ‘It’s nice that they’re there, but they don’t affect me as much as the hate.’

And the hate is easy to find on Twitter. ‘Yeah, and I find some very easy retort to cut them down to size.’

Does that give you any real satisfaction, or is it only momentary?

‘I don’t know what the f—k it is, but it’s just wrong.’


Oh Robbie. He tried therapy but didn’t like the therapist (‘He just told me to develop a thicker skin’), though he does approve of it in general, and thinks it should be on offer in schools (‘Understanding why I think what I think and do what I do would have been so much more important for me than geography’). Still, things are looking up. ‘Last night before I went to bed I noticed that I have moments of quite lovely self-esteem – but they are fleeting, and I wonder why I can’t hold on to them.’

Having a family has helped. ‘It focuses everything and it’s made my life much richer and opened up this whole other level that I wasn’t going to experience because I didn’t used to want kids. For all the anxiety that children bring, or for all the new creative ways to hate myself that I come up with, they also bring something that totally outweighs it.’

He lets Field lead the way with parenting. He knows when to pick his battles, he says, and let things go. ‘She’s more sensible than me. I would say, “Yeah, let them jump off the wall and hurt themselves, then they won’t do it again” – whereas Ayda would say, “Let’s get that wall taken down so that they don’t jump off.”’

At the moment his family travel everywhere with him because he can’t bear to be without them. While the children are here they are home-schooled in an annexe at the side of the house, but, he says, that can’t go on for ever. ‘Ayda really wants the kids to have the experience of school, but I’m not bothered about that. We’re still in transition, trying to figure it out.’

He is not a Lego dad; he finds it difficult ‘to do the playing thing’. But he likes colouring in (he shows me the result of a mammoth session, which he did to distract himself when he gave up smoking in January) and reading to the children. He has read The Tiger Who Came to Tea to Teddy ‘1,000 times’, and is singing on Hey Tiger!, the theme tune for Channel 4’s Christmas adaptation of the book (composed by Grammy-winner David Arnold, with lyrics by Don Black). ‘It was a huge bonding session, reading that book to her. It felt like a real “I’m a dad” moment. Teddy was learning how to speak and I left a gap at the end of each sentence and she would finish it.’

On cue, Field pops in with Teddy, a lovely dark-haired seven-year-old, who has something to share.

‘Coco just took her first steps!’ says Field.

‘Our baby just walked,’ Teddy explains to me kindly.

‘You’re joking!’ says Williams. ‘That’s so exciting!’

‘You’ll see her do it,’ says Field. ‘We’ll have her practise a little and do some push-ups.’

Later, Coco, a sturdy little 13-month-old – ‘She’s in the 98th percentile!’ says Williams proudly – does a turn across the iamspamspamamifloor for us, to her own evident delight.

Coco is their third child and was born to a surrogate mother (last week Field revealed she’d like to have a fourth). A few years ago, Williams found that his sperm wasn’t very active (‘In fact it’s dead now,’ he announces cheerfully), and had it frozen. Field also had complications, and they experienced some stressful rounds of IVF. ‘Heartbreaking times when Ayda was filling herself with hormones that were making her feel deathly, and it just wasn’t happening.’ So they found ‘an incredible surrogate’ who has become part of their family. ‘And we love them and they love us, and for me it’s not weird.’

Williams and Field were at the birth. ‘My wife got to stand there with the oven mitts on waiting for the baby to come out,’ he says, ‘and she didn’t have to suffer with postnatal depression or her body exploding, and months of looking after a child who’s just been born when physically you yourself need looking after.’


Robbie Williams is fully aware of how lucky he is. A working-class boy from Stoke, he was in line to be in the Army, or the police force. Or a drug dealer, he says. But here he is, still the consummate pop star. ‘People are lucky if they get five years – or even one song. After Take That, 
I had 10 years where I couldn’t miss a ball, even though some of the shots were really f—king bad.’

It was nearly three decades ago that he joined the group as a 16-year-old, on £150 
a week. He left after five years (though he rejoined in 2010 for an album and a tour). It must all seem an awfully long time ago now. Does he still have any kind of relationship with the remaining members, Mark Owen, Howard Donald and Gary Barlow?

‘Yes I do,’ he says, ‘though it’s an email relationship now. It’s a box of toys to be played with at a later date. Always is. But there is a universal cord that pulls us 
back together.’

Let’s play Shag/Marry/Kill, I suggest – partly in order to stop Williams getting bored – with the three members of Take That.

He looks unfazed. ‘I’d marry Mark. We were best mates. Howard’s got a lovely bum, and great pecs – I’d shag Howard. But I’m not killing Gary. I’d marry Gary too. We would be the odd couple, but I don’t think we’d be bored. It would have to be Shag/Marry/Marry – I’d be a bigamist.’

Later, Williams shows me round the house, which has been decorated magnificently by The Wife, with wooden floors and alluring lighting and lots of art everywhere (‘She was on a budget,’ he emphasises). There is a Banksy in the iamspamspamamiand what looks like 
a Warhol print in the sitting room. The children’s bedroom is enchanting, their little beds draped with curtains so they look like mini-four-posters. Then we go to his studio to see Williams’s own art, which he has been working on while he’s here – huge canvases covered in graffiti-style designs in shiny floor paint. It’s only a few minutes away but we travel there in his latest toy, which he calls ‘the van’: a Mercedes JetStar, akin to 
a first-class plane cabin with four seats, equipped with Wi-Fi and two TV screens, and cut off from the driver.

He presses a button. ‘Neil?’ he says.

‘Yes?’ comes the disembodied voice from the front.

‘Nothing. Just showing off.’

Drivers, cooks, a nanny, teachers, security – this is a lifestyle that costs a lot of money to maintain. But as well as royalties and concert fees, Williams can earn ‘mind-blowing amounts’ performing at, say, private parties – which he has done quite a lot. Does he still do that, and does he regret any of them?

‘Yes I do, and no I don’t.’

How was Philip Green’s?

‘Well I would have signed an NDA – but if I’d not signed an NDA it would have been perfectly fine.’

How do you judge whether to do one? It can’t just be the money.

‘Yeah, it is.’

You wouldn’t make a decision based on that alone, would you?

‘Yeah, I would.’

You don’t need the money, do you?

‘Yeah, I do.’

Admittedly I got this off Google, but as of 2019, Robbie Williams’s net worth is supposedly £230 million. (Other estimates are closer to £150 million.) Williams himself says he only has enough actual cash to maintain his lifestyle for the next couple of years.

‘The thing about money is the more you have, the more toys you get. And they all need paying for. Of course I could have less houses, less staff, less toys – but I don’t want to. I like my life. But my life costs money. It’s just how it is.’

He has no desire, he says, to go to some remote Scottish cottage away from it all for a holiday with only his family. ‘I’d have to take the staff with me,’ he laughs. ‘Because we like not having to do s—t for ourselves. 
It’s nice. Technically we could do that – 
but we wouldn’t want to – we really like 
life like this.

Did you feel like that last year when you were at a royal wedding (that of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank, where Teddy was a bridesmaid)?

‘No, not really… First and foremost, they are my mates; no matter who they are outside our relationship, they’re Jack and Euge – and they make me laugh. I really admire them, because of how they’ve grown up and what they’re supposed to be compared to what they actually are. There was an immense sense of pride about the whole occasion, but mainly it was my two mates getting married.’

Mind you, he adds, ‘It is weird when the Queen comes and sits down in front of you.’

Teddy thought it was perfectly normal. ‘Normal s—t for her. She reads about princesses all the time – so why shouldn’t she get to meet one in real life?’

And tonight they’re going to Windsor. ‘Shall I pick out something for you to wear, babe?’ asks Field.

No, Williams says. And to me, ‘I’ll go and get ready. I’m off to Windsor lodge – so tonight I’m The Tiger Who Came to Tea.’

The wife. That would be Ayda Field, an American actor whom Williams met in 2006 – during a particularly arduous drug binge – and married in 2010. (Their dogs were her bridesmaids.) He loves her. Boy does he love her. The praise pours out of him: ‘She’s incredibly trustworthy, incredibly smart, incredibly funny, incredibly interesting to look at. I never get used to seeing that face – and it always changes. She’s my cheerleader and she’s 
got my best interests at heart. And we’re very comfortable in each other’s company.’

Field is quite dry. ‘She’s got a British sense of humour – she totally gets irony. She’s naughty, she’s rude and she’s vulgar – not in public, but she is.’ He looks thoughtful. ‘She says “dickhead” really well.’

IS Robbie Williams the biggest diva in showbiz? The singer has revealed he refuses to put on his own deodorant – getting someone else to spray his armpits.

On the latest episode of Amazon Prime Video’s Back Of The Net show, he says: “There’s one superstition – I don’t know where it started – but I get somebody else to apply the deodorant on me.

“It was quite a while until I realised that’s not normal. I must have changed! It’s nothing to do with me being pop-starry or a diva, it’s just something that happens.” Er, sure.

He’ll have trouble finding volunteers to spray him, though, as he’s dumped his phone.

Robbie, who today said he will reprise his Vegas residency in March, added: “I haven’t owned a phone since 2006. I got rid of it because I just don’t like them.”

At least that should give his regular spritzers a bit of peace and quiet.

Robbie Williams inspired by daughter to sing on children’s adaptation
The pop star has lent his voice to Hey Tiger!





Robbie Williams has said his daughter Teddy was the reason he wanted to sing on the theme for Channel 4’s Christmas adaptation of The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

The former Take That star, 45, sings on Hey Tiger! which was composed by Grammy winner David Arnold.

Williams said the children’s book had been a “big bonding thing” between him and his child.


He said: “Yes, I was aware of the book before this film. I’ve read it possibly 150 times to my first daughter, Teddy.

“It was a big bonding thing, this book, with me and Ted. She loved that book. I got a real heart-warming kick out of reading a line and then letting her finish the line.

“Sort of marvelled at how smart she was and how much she remembered of the book. So it’ll be forever in my heart.”

Lyrics for the track were penned by Oscar winner and BBC Radio 2 DJ Don Black, most famous for his work with Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, and John Barry on three James Bond films.


Williams added: “What attracted me, apart from the incredibly talented people that have written it, is my daughter Teddy.

“She’s the reason I’m sat here. She’s the reason I got into the booth to sing the song.

“I’m just honouring those moments that I had with her when she was that age and she loved this book.

“I’ve got a new daughter now; she’s called Coco, she’s 11 months old and I shall be reading this book to her too.

“I’m here to honour those moments and I’m incredibly grateful that I’ve had them.”

Williams welcomed daughter Theodora, or “Teddy”, in 2012 and son Charlton in 2014, and in 2018 they announced they had welcomed daughter Colette (Coco) via a surrogate.

The much-loved children’s book by Judith Kerr, who died earlier this year aged 95, will be brought to life in a special from the makers of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt and The Snowman And The Snowdog, and will feature a star-studded voice cast including Benedict Cumberbatch, David Oyelowo and David Walliams.

Seven-year-old newcomer Clara Ross will make her TV debut as main character Sophie.

Channel 4’s The Tiger Who Came To Tea will be a half-hour film and is set to air this Christmas.

One of the 2019 Christmas TV highlights was undoubtedly the very first adaptation of The Tiger Who Came to Tea.

The new animated version of the beloved Judith Kerr children's book first aired on the BBC on Christmas Eve, and featured the voices of David Walliams and Benedict Cumberbatch among others.

The 1968 story follows a girl named Sophie, her mother, and kind tiger who interrupts their afternoon tea, and quickly eats all their cake and drinks all their tap water.

As part of the film, Robbie Williams recorded a brand new song for the soundtrack. Listen to 'Hey Tiger' below:


The music for the film was written by James Bond composer David Arnold, while 'Hey Tiger''s lyrics were written by Don Black.

Black is one of the UK's most prolific songwriters, and is known particularly for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, and for the James Bond theme songs he co-wrote with John Barry: 'Thunderball', 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'The Man with the Golden Gun'.

Speaking about writing the new song, Black told Channel 4: "It catches a mood of innocence and youth and a delightful tale and brings a smile and, it makes you feel young again, if you’re not young already."

Black was particularly happy with Robbie taking on the song, saying: "Well, for me personally, I’ve always been a huge Robbie Williams fan, particularly after I met him, because when I first met him, he was talking about Sammy Davis and Dean Martin, and basically, there’s a lot of the old school about Robbie Williams.

"He’s an old performer really. And he would get this song, he would hear it and say: ‘Oh I know what you mean'.’ And he’s ideal for it. It’s a show song, it tells a story, and he’s great with the lyric. He kind of lives a song and we got him!"

On the new song, Robbie said: "This book has played a big part in me bonding with my kids. I’ve read it possibly 150 times to Teddy, and she is the reason I’m singing the song – I’m honouring those moments with her.

"She loved the book and I got a real heart-warming kick reading a line and her finishing it, so it will be forever in my heart. Plus I’m a massive fan of Don Black and it’s an honour to be singing the words he’s written.

The 45-year-old pop star is rumoured to be worth as much as £175 million – but his personal fortune hasn't dampened Robbie's enthusiasm for making music.

Robbie told the Daily Mail newspaper's You magazine: "People say, 'You have all the money in the world' – actually I don't. I'm very, very well off but I could get through the cash reserves within six months. We have a lifestyle that needs paying for and I like working for it."

well, he said that his lifestyle needs money and with a fortune of 175m he still has only cash reserves for some months (I assume everything else is quite well invested). He could do the risk side alone, if he wants to keep the lifestyle for his family and he might enjoy it either these days. When you count together this years vacations only, and every small bit you can read aside of what you cannot read I understand that he does not want to take risks.
On the other hand, this soft washed Rob is so far away from what I liked and I know that he still has it. But it will be interesting how he will manage the balance

Oh I don't know - I think he still takes plenty of risks. I mean Las Vegas he could have fallen on his arse in a very public way. For me it's the choice of where he's directing his music. He points to Rod Stewart as a direction but Rod is 74. His dad is nearly 80. All the music he listens to in his Instas is young and vibrant but he doesn't appear to want to produce this music. I love the Christmas album. Everything he does is skillfully written, produced and delivered. He's a master at it but the lack of confidence that runs through him is dictating to him to take the middle of the road, cabaret path and that's the bit that loses me. Although he says in that article that he was playing a part when he was younger, I'm not convinced that the family friendly , cabaret Robbie isn't just another part. He's a complicated man and there are lots of versions of him. The cabaret version that appears to be prominant at the moment is not my favourite version. I'm still looking for the Liam Gallagher version that was prominent for the first fifteen years. It's still there but for some reason is being channelled elsewhere at the moment.

i never watched the Xmas show ...

Tbh I am sick of hearing the same songs at the live shows , that is why i have not gone to anything for ages, I will do at some stage , hopefully he does another Under The Radar show, I will definitely make the next one .... I like to go to the normal tours less often , then when I do go I really enjoy it as I have not seen him perform for ages so it feels good...

A friend of mine has never missed an Eric Clapton when when he comes to either Ireland or the UK , he goes very single time .

Is Military Wives based on a true story? Gareth Malone’s real-life choir behind the hit film

Robbie Williams’ daughter is writing songs

The ‘Let Me Entertain You’ hitmaker’s little girl Theodora – also known as Teddy – may only be seven years old, but she’s already proving she’s inherited her father’s songwriting abilities as she’s started penning lyrics from scratch.

Speaking about his children on television in the US, Robbie is quoted by The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column as saying: “My daughter is writing songs already. It’s phenomenal. And I am taking credit for what she’s writing.”

The 46-year-old singer also has Charlton, five, Coco, 18 months, and one-month-old son Beau with his wife Ayda Field and has admitted he’s worried about when his kids get older because they’ll be able to read the things he’s done in the past.

He explained: “Right now they dig me, but they don’t know, they can’t read.

“As soon as they get on Wikipedia or can put my name into YouTube, they’ll be like, ‘You wrote these lyrics?’ “

This isn’t the first time Robbie has bragged about Teddy’s musical abilities as he previously called her the most talented member of his family.

He said at the time: “I’m not the most talented singer in my family, my daughter is more talented than me, Teddy is a fantastic singer, really.

“Already she’s got a musical ear and it’s incredible.”

Teddy actually made an appearance on the track ‘Home’ on Robbie’s album ‘The Christmas Present’ – although he will be holding onto the song earnings until she’s old enough to manage her own money.

The ‘Angels’ hitmaker recently said: “No, not yet. I’ll be keeping them.”

Robbie shared how he just heard Teddy singing in their home studio one day and was blown away by her voice.

On how the feature came about, he said: “Teddy is on a track called ‘Home’.

“I have a studio in my house and the kids wander down.

“This particular time she was singing and I said, ‘You sound great, baby – do you think you can remember these words?’. She knocked it out of the park.”

I need to be more disciplined about logging off. Not staying on for hours.

COME ON, ROBBIE Robbie Williams releasing a new version of Come On Eileen 40 years after Dexy’s Midnight Runners





IT has been a karaoke classic for almost 40 years but Cone On Eileen is about to get a big boost with a new version.

I can reveal Robbie Williams has recorded a new tune, which uses large sections of the party classic, including the iconic sing-along chorus.

But I’m yet to find out what Dexys Midnight Runners, who went to No1 with the hit in the UK and US in 1982, think of it.

Name-checking the single in the first verse before going into the original chorus, Robbie sings: “She takes her money and drinks it on a Saturday, her and her friends just p**sing the night away.

“Her mother says she’s always been a disappointment, another night another casual arrangement . . .  We take off our clothes.

“But she’s the best I’ve seen at singing Come On Eileen.”

Dexys Midnight Runners went to No1 with the hit in the UK and US in 1982

He sang the as yet untitled song during an Instagram Live broadcast late on Tuesday night.

He said: “I am going to sing you a song now that I probably shouldn’t sing you.

“I did it the other day and I had so much fun doing it.

“It’s one of mine and it’s unreleased. But it’s a song that you can get on board with because I think you might know a little bit of it already.” It’s the first new music from Robbie since his No1 album The Christmas Present last year.

I'm hoping Robbie can go one better with his version


Come On Eileen was last reworked in 2004 as Come On England by the band 4-4-2 to support England’s football team at the European Championships. It reached No2 in the charts.

We all need some fun in our lives right now, so here’s hoping Robbie can go one better with his version.

Pop legend Sir Cliff Richard, songwriter Guy Chambers, and Syrian-American folk artist Bedouine will all perform as part of the Royal Albert Hall’s programme of exclusive streamed shows.

Cliff will come direct from his home in Barbados on Sunday (21 June) as part of the Royal Albert Home series – telling stories from his life and performing hits from across his 60-year pop career – prior to intimate sets from Bedouine (Thu 25 Jun) and Guy Chambers (Thu 2 Jul).

Other upcoming artists in the strand are the extraordinary alt-rock artist Lucy Dacus (tonight), pianist Charlie Bates (Sat 20 Jun) – performing a Jazz for Kids set – acclaimed singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright (Wed 24 Jun), and Grammy Award-winning classical violinist, Nicola Benedetti (Sat 4 Jul), prior to a night of country music in collaboration with Nashville Meets London on Saturday 18 July.

The shows are to raise money for the venue, which is closed for the first time since the Blitz. Though the events are streamable free, the Hall is asking audience members to consider donating £10 per concert watched to help look after its staff and Grade I listed building.

Hyde Park was a great gig - so much energy and it all felt fresh. I remember the graphics at the back were great, the LMA Choir singing Eternity with Robbie sounded beautiful. Setting was amazing.

A really happy memory.

Sometimes when you've been a fan for yonks - it's easy to forget just how good he is live. That night he was amazing.

There is a “come and go” atmosphere. Robbie Williams is just coming in through the door. He performed on stage for an hour and a half, had a fresh shower and changed clothes, and is accompanied by his father Peter, who, as just experienced, sings sensationally on stage in a duet with him. Robbie is a close family friend and clearly feels at home with the Glocks. Direttissima he heads for Gaston Glock and gives him a warm hug. The two exchange jokes, then spend a long time talking. Again and again you can hear them laughing they almost look like two mischievous boys entrusting secrets to each other. No question about it, they both like each other.

Will Robbie be ready for a group photo with my sons and husband? After all, he and our head of household have their birthday on the same day. "Really? You would worry about the music industry in general at the moment & it's survival . I was listening to Christy Dignam from the band Aslan talking about the effects of not being able to work, they are a band that depend on live shows for their bread & butter . God knows when the likes of Robbie will get back on the road, cannot see it happening until 2022 at the earliest .

I agree, Laura. I had thought that there would already be ideas of online concerts even on a stadium stage with the audience attending per pay or something like that. My team and me (24 people) are working remotely since March and it works smooth. I am wondering why there are so little ideas in a business who should be full of ideas. If they do not come up with something soon a lot of people will go bankrupt. I see Robbie spreading his wings. He knos music might not be the place where money is aside for the tiktokers.

Virtual concerts do not do it for me . Robbie feeds off a live audience , it's his natural home, cannot see such gigs working . The live audiences are part of the show . I see on tv on a BGT they have this virtual audience which Im' guessing that the production has added volume to like they do with football matches etc, it does nothing for me . The only thing I could see working is if he did small live gigs that were televised/streamed , at least you would have an audience there. The GOV here are supposed to be working on trying to set the scene for getting outdoor gigs back again but in restricted numbers maybe for next summer. Robbie would not make any money out of those shows unless they were sponsored .

One thing for sure is that we will not be seeing that famous couch coming back anytime soon ( no regrets here mind you , I hated it )... when you think of you it makes you wonder if Robbie knew something was coming with the mask & everything that fans wore when sitting on the couch . No more hugs for the wimmiin in the audience. O Dear !!

Virtual gigs won't be as good as the real thing I agree - but they are one alternative.

Robbie's got a big personality - he could fill a room in LA or London with 30 people (or six if that's all we're allowed now) and perform the Christmas album for example. He could still make it come alive. He can still have all the sets. The only thing missing is the audience. He just needs to use his popstar powers.

We've all had to change our working practices - why not artists?

IMO ANYTHING is better than nothing.

It's not that simple for Robbie anymore with Gwen being ill , I thought maybe Wynns in Vegas as he had planned for this year might still be an option with those shows being streamed live but Wynns have reported over 500 covid cases amongst it's employees & guests since it re-opened in June . If he does the Christmas album PT2 they might record some show like they did with The Robbie Williams show back in the day , I do not know really . It has gone quiet so maybe they is something happening in the background, Robbie could still be in Europe working, there is nothing to indicate that they went back to the US or is there !!

The Netherlands has restrictions for pubs after 12.00 now. We have mouthpieces in regions which are orange on main streets like Amsterdam. and Mouthpieces in public transport.
Cases are rising. Not a lot of restrictions. I live in a region near the German border and the only persons with mouth pieces here are speaking German (As they have to wear them in supermarkets). We are trying to go one day or two a week back to the office aside mum's have little children, or people have special health conditions. People are hesitant and fortunately everyone has the equipment at home to do the same work rather than in the office. I see that people are even more productive, but also tend to be more online. In the summer we had team members working from 7 different European countries as they had to stay longer visiting their parents (multi-national team).
I have not been in the office since March as I had a not Covid related lung problem. All in all I assume that in October there will be more restrictions. They will only be cautious that they keep people working as the economy is already hurt badly.

And for Robbie. It is somehow strange after the overload to hear nothing. I thought of Gwen, but read somewhere that she had been on vacation on Mustique so she cannot do that bad (if it is true). Then I thought about a hair transplant :-) I could also not recognize if the pavement Teddy walked is British, American or whatever. If he will do a Christmas album II he will need to record the songs. I also wonder if he will continue with the TV plans. With people at home and the autumn and winter coming he might start something? Well, it will be interesting what he is up to and I am very curious.

I have not seen Guy about much so maybe they are working on something . I read yesterday that Jonny Wilkes posted that the Pantos have been cancelled for this year which is rather sad . Guy & Robbie were just so lucky that TBITD happened before lockdown , imagine if it happened earlier. In a case if Robbie will win this award, then republish The Christmas Present this autumn with additional sales to reach Platinum status I'd say he does very well for this year adding Soccer Aid success, launching a new LMA campus (even w/o his participation in UK) and def having some more time for thinking (music and not only) about future.

I think he could record even more duets during that period than we have got already (Ronan, The Struts, Danny Jones) to use it later.

If families can't be together - they will be looking for comfort in familiar things.

I also like it now, did not like the shaved head that much. Still love Rob in the Bodies video and the Julian Broad photoshoot at CBH at that time. It is only a personal taste that I like hair on heads. And I doubt - according to Robbie - that his will be strong enough to grow longer by itself. The hairtransplant for Gary Barlow and Juergen Klopp did magic (for the hair) :-).

I’m still upset that the Different EP was taken off of digital formats.

On My Own is one of my favourite Robbie tracks.

The physical copy of the EP is £175 on Amazon and that is just far too much.

I just took it for granted being on Spotify before, I didn’t know it would be taken off completely.

At least we got Soul Transmission on The Christmas Present.

White Man In Hanoi was really good too.

At least some people have uploaded the songs to YouTube but the quality isn’t great and I would prefer my own copies but they’re gone from everywhere: iTunes, Spotify etc

Robbie Williams has teamed up with former X Factor act the LMA Choir to create a special rendition of Christmas classic Winter Wonderland.

The Take That star and the 13-strong Liverpool group, who became the first choir to make it through to the live shows of the ITV series in 2018, recorded the festive favourite via Zoom.

During recording sessions for the song, the 46-year-old held a Q&A, where he encouraged more than 800 students to be brave during the coronavirus pandemic.

He told them: "Every one of you needs to know we are lions and we are braver than any fear. Fear thinks that it's bigger than you, but you need to show you're not scared of it every time and that you're bigger and stronger than any fear can ever be.

"Think bigger than you ever have and then think bigger again. Without fear, you have no boundaries."

Williams championed the choir during their time on the X Factor, when he and his wife, Ayda Field, were judges.

He became a co-owner of the LMA, the music, media and performing arts college where they formed, in 2019, alongside founders Richard and Simon Wallace.

The choir have remained close with Williams, sharing the stage with him at Wembley's SSE Arena and Hyde Park, and featuring on his 2019 album The Christmas Present.

Stephanie Wallace-Carr, head of the LMA Choir and creative director of musical theatre at LMA, said: "It goes without saying that this year has been challenging and rocky for everyone in one way or another.

"As a choir, we missed seeing each other every day during lockdown and couldn't wait to perform together again, so to end the year with a very special duet with Robbie - albeit virtually - is fantastic.

"More than two years after we left the X Factor, we still have an incredible bond with Robbie and we're so grateful to be able to sing alongside him and hopefully bring a bit of festive cheer to everyone."

In June, the choir staged a remote performance of Sam Cooke's Civil Rights-era anthem A Change Is Gonna Come in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

The group said they aimed to "call for a change and create hope" in the wake of George Floyd's death in the US.

Robbie Williams is planning to get his own back on a troll by writing a song about them.

The 'Rock DJ' hitmaker has revealed the unknown Twitter user has fuelled him up to pen a song containing quotes from their book in retaliation at the author's nasty remarks about one of his tracks.

Robbie is quoted by The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column as saying: “I had a song out and my narcissistic personality took me to go and check out Twitter, just to see what people were saying.

"And you know, this was the worst thing to do.

“The top thing was a guy just laying into me, awful, awful nastiness.

"He’d just written a book and he’s got quotes from his book there and four or five of them are very, very lyrical.

“So I’ve stolen his best quotes and I’m going to put them into a song really soon, just to p*** him off. And there’s nothing he can do about it.”

Meanwhile, the 'She's the One' hitmaker recently teased a new duet with Kylie Minogue.

The 'Angels' singer and the Australian pop princess previously teamed up on 2000's 'Kids', which narrowly missed out on the number one spot in UK chart to U2's 'Beautiful Day'.

And now, the 46-year-old former Take That star has revealed he and the 52-year-old 'Golden' singer have "big plans" for a follow-up.

Robbie said: "I have a song with Miss Kylie Minogue, I have big plans for it if she is up for it. I have big plans."

While an insider told the tabloid: "Kylie and Robbie have recorded a new song together.

"It's their first collab since 'Kids' in 2000 and Robbie is keen to make it a single.

"Due to Covid there are no concrete plans for the release.

"It won't be a mini drop like Kylie recently did with her Studio 2054 remix of 'Real Groove' with Dua Lipa."

I've lost track of what the rules were before Christmas Elisabeth - they change almost weekly in the UK.

I know London and South east (my area) went from Tier 3 to 4 to Lockdown in the space of two weeks. That night he appeared on Strictly was the night they announced no families mixing over Christmas. But if they were living in Wiltshire it was different there to London - at that time.

Having a national lockdown is at least easier to follow.

It might sound silly buy I don't envy them floating around in St Barts on their own. I would much rather be "home" and facing it together nationally - where ever they call home.

They'd have to quarantine to get back in this country, it's rampant in US. Like I say - I don't envy them for all their money. They don't belong.

Fully agree, this is something special of this situation. I am now working remote with my team since almost 10 months. But at least I am home. I could understand that they went there to access USA easier afterwards. However who want to be there now? I would not even dare to think about vacation. But I know that many especially younger people think different. Ayda is very silent on instagram. Maybe they want to avoid another annoyance or they are still not feeling well. I don't see them emerge in the next weeks either way.

With all respect to them - I think they're silent because they know people have no time for celebrities swanning around the Caribbean when everyone else can't go farther than the local park.

I don't know how you get into the US at the present time - maybe now they've had it - they want to go back to LA.

At least it's sunny there and they would be in their own home.

Last year I was fortunate enough to record my first ever solo album. Many may not know I started out as a session musician before becoming an actor in 1992. I was born with a love for music and it runs through my blood. Thanks to my close friend @dannylubert who happens to love all the same music as I, we managed to put my dreams, and compositions into gear, and start to make a record. I wrote 10 tracks originally as an orchestral film score, but soon realised the top line violins made for terrific lead melody lines. So I asked some of my fav artists that I’ve been fortunate enough to work with back in the session days if they would come and sing on the album. All said yes which was lovely. Tomorrow I’ll post the featured artists, but for now wanted to show the legendary @capitolstudios where I recorded the orchestra and also a gentleman, and friend, and legend, mr @schmitt.al who thankfully loved the tracks and agreed to record the orchestra, and mix the album. Al is the highest recognised record producer, mixer in the world,and has worked on 1000’s of classic records with the best in the world, and is an extraordinary wonderful man. For some who may not know I asked him how his year had been so far ...... he gently, and with humility replied ‘very nice . We had paul in earlier this year ( Macartney) and Dillon came in (bob) that was a nice session and the terrific @gregoryportermusic. ‘ my mouth dropped to the floor. But that’s how special Al is, and how gifted. There is NOTHING like hearing an orchestral string section playing your music that you’ve heard in your mind and heart then written, pencil to scoresheet . Nothing in the world, and those magical moments live on for ever. Tomorrow I’ll post the guests, and when it’s ready to get released and I’ve found a proper label and home for it I’ll let you know ! #MaxBeesleysGROOVESPECTRUM

Mary Coughlan Irish singer was interviewed on tv last night & she she has been invited to perform at festivals in Australia next year & they asked her would she be getting a vaccine . I was supposed to be in Australia last Christmas & now I am thinking that it could be next January before I can go . I doubt very much we will have any gigs here this year but I'm only thinking the Vale gig might go ahead given it's outdoors Robbie is always pretty careful when it comes to business decisions , he might not want to risk it ..

They might be able to get the PV gig in just before the season re-starts in late August.

Hopefully by the end of June at latest Laura , so it would come as no surprise that we most likely will not see any live shows over here anytime soon . Hopefully the PV gig might happen for you

I think vaccinated or not - tickets for that gig will be very hard to get hold of.

I'm hoping as and when it does happen, that they might film it and put it up on the PV website though.

I was watching Paranoid on Netflix last night & who should appear but Ayda, I had forgotten she was in that series which was made in 2016 , I doubt she has done anything else since , I wonder if she has given up on her own career , she is certainly getting lots of Rob time due to covid given that he cannot travel very much

She did that Trump comedy before the election - we watched it - it was funny.

At least they had the sense to get out of it after one season.

Ayda is a beautiful, smart, gorgeous lady but I'm really hoping once life starts up again that they will think again about dual projects.

However much they enjoy being together and working together -I think professionally, they are better doing their thing separately.

He might be more relaxed with Ayda there but it doesn't necessarily make for better TV.

We had a round table discussion yesterday about women in leading positions. Women attending have been 35-55, all working full time and also mothers and with or without partner. All of them said that they are very more relaxed having both working and family life. All of them went back to full time work as soon as possible and all of the would not stop working even with a jackpot. Now I think about Ayda who is definitely a smart woman, handsome. I see that she learns Turkish which is great. Aside of this I see her doing sports, sports, sports. I don't know if they have nanny's now, but normally they have helpers. Why can she not do something which is adequate to her smartness? I don't think of a perfume empire or fashion, but social work, or go back working as a lawyer after some refreshers.
