It's a genuine question I ask here because at the moment this end of the TV viewing market seems to be vastly overpopulated. Every time the trailers come on between programmes on any of the BBC channels you care to name - or even on Channel 4/ITV - there's another new 'gripping thriller series' being publicised. Almost all of which seem to star Keely Hawes and/or Suranne Jones, the same way that Michelle Collins always seemed to be on every ITV show ever in the late 90s/early 00s. I've never sought to watch any of them because I don't like to watch depressing or intense stuff but even in trailer form they seem unavoidable.

I think there's too much run of the mill drama atm. We've had some really awful and average stuff this year. However, drama is my favourite genre and I can't complain really. There's always at least one decent enough drama all year round on normal TV and great things on Netflix to binge watch which I never watched the first time round!

I just looked at the new shows which are supposed to begin this autumn in the US the other day and oh god there's so little diversity. It's just cop or medical drama, cop, medical, cop, medical. With an occasional absolutely ghastly looking sitcom about 2 opposites having to live together or something thrown in.

I used to check out so many major network TV shows but now the majority are just throwaway and a waste of time. I love tv dramas but bitch give me something interesting and not a rehash of something that'd been done better 30 times before.

Thank f*** for netflix.

From someone that doesn't watch Netflix, I know there are lots of good shows on there, and the latest Star Trek incarnation, which I haven't seen yet.

BBC1 seem to be on top this year with some excellent drama's Killing Eve, Bodyguard and a few others, The Cry is looking pretty impressive. Strangers the first episode really set the series, on paper it really looked good, but now it seems to have gone a little bit dull in places and it seems to be losing its way, probably because its getting stringed out a bit. Drama seem to be my favourite TV genre, especially thrillers, I just think BBC really are on top for crime dramas at the moment. Medical dramas I really hate as there is too many of them, but Instinct is my favourite new show at the moment with Alan Cumming, its different and it reminds me a bit like Castle in some places. If anyone hasn't seen Instinct I really recommend it, Alan Cumming is on spot in every episode.

I wish there was just a little bit more variety in concepts with the new dramas, too often I just look at a new series and the tagline is something I've seen in about five other dramas, I mean it would need to work as a show as a whole as well as that ofc. but I would appreciate over identikit dramas or dull adaptations. I also do wish there was a bit more emphasis on horror or supernatural dramas as I get that they're a bit niche they CAN be really good and would be a good change from the crime or medical dramas that are thrown out constantly, it's unfortunate that they're often a bit hit and miss (the hits ofc. becoming very big ones).
