5 years since Madonna last had a proper hit! sad.gif 'Celebration' is one of my favourites, both the album version and the Benny Benassi remix are exactly what you'd want in the club.

strange to think that you could get a top 40 hit this time last year with only 6k! Streaming really has changed things. CHVRCHES (unfortunately) and Linkin Park would've missed the top 40 if streaming counted then

Hozier confirmed in the top 40 biggrin.gif I guess Paolo Nutini has missed his chance and probably dropped back to ~#50 this week, so annoying sad.gif If only he'd released 'Iron Sky' over 'Let Me Down Easy'...

2 Professor Green feat. Tori Kelly - Lullaby

1 This Is How We Do (feat. Riff Raff)

Biography
A former Christian artist, Katy Perry rebranded herself as a larger-than-life pop star and rose to prominence during the summer of 2008. Before she topped the charts with songs like "I Kissed a Girl" and "California Gurls," though, she spent the better part of a decade recording music under a different name. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (or Katy Hudson, as she billed herself on her 2001 gospel album) was born on October 25, 1984, in Santa Barbara, California. Raised in a religious household as the daughter of two pastors, she was forbidden to listen to secular bands as a child, although a childhood slumber party introduced her to the music of Alanis Morissette and Freddie Mercury. Religious music remained at the forefront, however, and Katy released a self-titled Christian album in 2001 under her original name. She would later abandon the genre (and her given surname) in favor of a pop career.

At age 17, she began working with hitmaker Glen Ballard, who had produced and co-written Alanis Morissette's chart-topping Jagged Little Pill in 1995. Several years later, she teamed up with the Matrix, a Grammy-nominated production/songwriting team whose résumé included collaborations with Avril Lavigne, Shakira, and Korn. Tired of producing music for other artists, the Matrix had plans to record an album of their own, with Perry serving as one of the group's two singers. The project was ultimately shelved, but not before Perry appeared in a 2004 write-up by Blender magazine, who hailed her as "the Next Big Thing!"

With the Matrix's unreleased album sitting in the vaults at Sony Records, Perry went back to the drawing board and began working on a solo album for Columbia. The project was eventually canceled, although two of its songs were later given to Kelly Clarkson, who scored a Top 40 hit with "I Do Not Hook Up" several years later. Perry (who, by this point, had shed her original surname due to its similarity to actress Kate Hudson) then signed with Capitol, who encouraged their new client to write her own music and helped establish her image as a boisterous, tongue-in-cheek pop star. Perry's debut single, "UR So Gay," generated a small buzz with its mischievous lyrics and clever music video, but it was "I Kissed a Girl" that proved to be her breakthrough hit, topping the charts in 20 countries and pushing its accompanying album, 2008's One of the Boys, into the Top Ten in America. Perry supported her debut by joining the Warped Tour that summer, where she toured alongside her boyfriend at the time, Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes. Meanwhile, "Hot N Cold" became her second multi-platinum hit, "Thinking of You" (one of the album's three songs written solely by Perry) cracked the Top 40, and "Waking Up in Vegas" cracked the Top Ten.

Such success meant that Katy Perry had officially become one of the industry's biggest pop stars, celebrated as much for her outsized behavior and outrageous fashion choices as the music itself. She continued touring through the summer of 2009 (albeit without McCoy, whose boyfriend status had been revoked earlier that year) and found time to tape an installment of MTV Unplugged, which was released in November. Meanwhile, she worked on a new album and started up a whirlwind romance with comedian Russell Brand, eventually becoming his fiancé. Recording sessions for her album wrapped up in early 2010, and Perry scored her second number one single with "California Gurls," which was released that May. The accompanying album, Teenage Dream, followed in August. The album would be reissued in 2012 as Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, with the bonus track "Wide Awake" earning Perry a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Solo Performance.

'This Is How We Do' hanging on for dear life, then. I expected this to perform better, I guess if she wants to release another single then it'll need an X Factor performance.

It's #27 on iTunes and still climbing so I don't think so. It was a monster hit on a similar level to 'Let Her Go' in Ireland and is doing well elsewhere too (including the USA) so I think it has the potential to grow into a properly big hit.

Biography
Fall Out Boy is an American rock band formed in Wilmette, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago in 2001. The band consists of vocalist/guitarist Patrick Stump, bassist Pete Wentz, guitarist Joe Trohman, and drummer Andy Hurley. The band originated from Chicago's hardcore punk scene, with which Wentz was heavily involved. The group was formed by Wentz and Trohman as a pop punk side project of their respective hardcore bands, and Stump joined shortly thereafter. The group went through a succession of drummers before landing Hurley and recording their debut album, Take This to Your Grave (2003), which became an underground success and helped the band gain a dedicated fanbase through heavy touring, as well as some moderate commercial success.

With Wentz as the band's lyricist and Stump as the primary composer, the band's 2005 major-label breakthrough, From Under the Cork Tree, produced two hit singles, "Sugar, We're Goin Down" and "Dance, Dance", and went double platinum, transforming the group into superstars and making Wentz a celebrity and tabloid fixture. Fall Out Boy received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards. Their 2007 follow-up, Infinity on High, landed at number one on the Billboard 200 with 260,000 first week sales. It produced several worldwide hit singles, "This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race" and "Thnks fr th Mmrs". Folie à Deux, the band's fourth album, created a mixed response from fans and commercially undersold expectations. Following the release of Believers Never Die - Greatest Hits, the band took a hiatus from 2009 to 2012 to "decompress", exploring various side projects. They regrouped and recorded Save Rock and Roll (2013), which gave the band their second career number one and produced the top 20 single "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up)".

While Fall Out Boy's music has been typically described as pop punk and pop rock, the band were generally seen in the mid-2000s at the forefront of the "emo pop" explosion. Take This to Your Grave has often been cited as a vital blueprint for pop punk music in the 2000s.

You're not alone, I've always found it incredibly basic and tacky. Whatever sub-sub-genre it uses just doesn't appeal to me in the slightest (as evidenced by the two Gecko-ripoff BJSC entries also being v. average at best).

Guilty of this, sorry. It was close to my votes honest!11

Great to see it in the top 40 wub.gif Such a gorgeous and standout song and voice. Really hope this can prove to be a sleeper hit. (Looks like the only exciting thing happening this week sadly)

Anyway when was the last chart hit remotely related to religion/church? ohmy.gif I get that the 'church' is a metaphor but still it's not a regular subject matter for a chart hit these days

Weren't there a couple of Christian campaign hits in the last five years? I guess the last genuinely popular song about religion was Shackles (Praise You) by Mary Mary.

I cannot stand Arianna Grande's voice.

And collaborating with everyone doesn't make an artist amazing. Oh for the days where collaborations were so rare you could actually get excited by one.

That Hozier track was good though.

I'm not sure whether 'Take Me To Church' is the second or third UK single - were both 'From Eden' and 'Sedated' pushed here before? I know at least one of them was playlisted by R1 (though I don't remember which) and there is an EP for 'From Eden' on UK iTunes.

Christian band LZ7 had a hit with "This Little Light" in 2010, then a top top hit with "Twenty Seven Million" in 2012. Most other songs referencing religion etc. that make the chart are rather more critical (of which Take Me To Church is one of them).

Biography
Cheryl Ann Fernandez-Versini (née Tweedy, formerly Cole; born 30 June 1983), known professionally as Cheryl Cole, is an English recording artist, songwriter, dancer, and television personality. She rose to fame in late 2002 when she auditioned for the reality television show Popstars: The Rivals on ITV. The programme announced that Cole had won a place as a member of the girl group Girls Aloud. The group's line-up remained the same throughout their history and during that time the group achieved a string of twenty consecutive top ten singles in the United Kingdom (including four number one singles) and six platinum albums (two of which went to number one) and earned five BRIT Award nominations from 2005 to 2010. In 2009, Girls Aloud won "Best Single" with their song "The Promise". In early 2013, Girls Aloud announced that they had split up.

Cole embarked on a solo career and released her first solo studio album 3 Words (2009) through Polydor records. 3 Words saw the release of three successful singles and the lead single from the album, "Fight for This Love," debuted at number one on the UK charts, becoming the best selling single of the year. "3 Words" and "Parachute" both peaked within the top five of the UK charts. 2010 saw the release of Cole's second studio album Messy Little Raindrops, which produced two singles, the first being "Promise This" which went straight to number one. Cole released her third solo album A Million Lights on 18 June 2012, with lead single "Call My Name" being released on 11 June 2012, the single became Cole's third number one single. During her solo career, Cole has earned three BRIT Award nominations.

Cole has become a recognised and photographed style icon; referred to as a fashionista by the press. She has been photographed for the covers of British Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar, while becoming the new face of cosmetic company L'Oréal. Cole was married to England footballer Ashley Cole from July 2006 until September 2010, when she divorced him following the announcement of their separation earlier that year. Cole became a judge on the UK version of The X Factor in 2008, becoming the winning judge twice out of the three series she judged. In 2011, Cole left the UK version of The X Factor to judge the American version. However, Cole was sacked from the show. Cole's net worth was estimated at £15 million in April 2012. On 10 March 2014, it was announced that Cole would return as a judge on the U.K. version of The X Factor for its eleventh series, signing a £1.5 million contract.

Biography
OneRepublic is an American pop rock band from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Formed in 2002 by Ryan Tedder and Zach Filkins, the band achieved commercial success on MySpace as an unsigned act. In 2003, the band was discovered by actress Kelly Barrett in Hollywood who connected them directly with her cousins Jimmy Ienner and Donnie Ienner, who was the President of Sony at that time, by making one phone call to get the AR Reps to their show. They then signed to Sony BMG for three years, before moving to Mosley Music Group.

In 2007, OneRepublic released their debut album, Dreaming Out Loud. Its lead single, "Apologize" was notably remixed by Timbaland, becoming a huge international success, reaching number one in sixteen countries, subsequently earning them a Grammy Award nomination. The second single, "Stop and Stare" mirrored its predecessor's success. The album was later certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The band's second album, Waking Up (2009), produced the successful singles, "All the Right Moves", "Secrets", "Marchin On", and "Good Life", the latter reaching the top ten of the US Billboard Hot 100.

OneRepublic's third album, Native (2013), became the band's first top ten album on the Billboard 200, and highest charting album to date, charting at number four. The lead single, "If I Lose Myself" charted within the top ten in several countries, while the album's third single, "Counting Stars", became the band's most successful single in recent years, obtaining top five placements in Australia, Canada, Germany, Ireland, New Zealand, the U.S. and the UK. This marks their highest charting single in the United Kingdom to date. It has also peaked at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, matching their highest peak of "Apologize" in 2007.

Isn't that the case with most of their singles?

The same could be said for 'Apologize' and 'Stop & Stare'. Though I like them both.

Biography
Rather than the usual bombast or snooze-inducing "relaxation music," the U.K. six-piece known as Clean Bandit mash classical music and pop forms for an airy and dreamy yet driven sound that's like the chamber music version of house music. The core four-piece of the group were known as the Chatto Quartet, a classically trained string quartet that performed J.S. Bach and cited Jacqueline du Pré as an influence, but their post-show, wind-down music often consisted of garage, two-step, Craig David, and Arcade Fire tracks. The quartet members were aware of both producer Jon Wandeck and MC Ssegamic through the duo's work in photography, and when Wandeck suggested they play on one of his house music cuts, Clean Bandit were born. With MC Ssegamic on the mike, they released the classical-meets-house-meets-hip-hop-meets-heartbreak song "Telephone Banking" in the summer of 2011. Their Dance Armstrong mixtape followed in 2012, while 2013 saw the release of their Mozart's House EP. - iTunes

Biography
Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American recording artist, dancer, and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he taught himself to sing and dance at a young age and was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.

In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of singer and his then-girlfriend Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned hit singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received by music critics.

Apart from his work in the music industry, Brown has pursued an acting career. In 2007, he made his on-screen feature film debut in Stomp the Yard, and appeared as a guest on the television series The O.C. Other films Brown has appeared in, include This Christmas (2007), Takers (2010), Think Like a Man (2012), and Battle of the Year (2013). Throughout his career, Brown has won numerous awards, including two NAACP Image Awards, three American Music Awards and nine BET Awards.

Australian rock band 5 Seconds to Summer make ebullient, high-energy music that straddles the line between '90s punk-pop and 1000s boy-band pop. Formed in 2011, the band features fellow Norwest Christian College grads Luke Hemmings (lead vocals/guitar), Michael Clifford (guitar/vocals), Calum Hood (bass/vocals), and Ashton Irwin (drums/vocals). The band uploaded several videos to Youtube and quickly caught the attention of Sony, who signed the band to a publishing deal. In 2012, 5 Seconds to Summer released two EPs including Unplugged and Somewhere New. The following year, the band received a further boost after they were asked to open for Britain's One Direction on tour. Personally I think this is better than his last two songs. The verses in particular are great. heart.gif

Nothing at all standout here. Tried & tested formula giving Guetta a cheap #1.

I sense an excessive amount of MOANING this week :\

I do like this David Guetta track but its far from his best work!

Biography
Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers while its members were still in high school. The original members of the band were: Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick; they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, The Fourth World, in 1997. After a tepid response to the album, the band parted ways with the record label and the members attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped, with James Valentine added to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5.

The band signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second and third singles, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved", became worldwide hits reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's 1.22.03.Acoustic and 2005's Live – Friday the 13th. In 2006, drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Ryan Dusick left the band and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and released in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Hands All Over, the band's third studio album was released in September 2010 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the album was re-released and supported by their single "Moves like Jagger" featuring American singer Christina Aguilera. The song became the band's second single to reach number one on the Hot 100 chart; it has sold over 14.4 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The band released their fourth studio album, Overexposed, in June 2012. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The first two singles from the album "Payphone" and "One More Night", were both international hits and peaked at two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively.

In 2014, the band signed Interscope Records and recorded their fifth studio album, V, which is set to be released on September 2, 2014.

Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 30.8 million digital singles and 27 million albums worldwide.

In 2013, Maroon 5 became the third most-played artist on Top 40 Mainstream radio, based on Clear Channel owned Mediabase, becoming one of the most successful acts of Interscope Records.

Biography
Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

George Ezra's album campaign has been so successful. Barely anyone knew who he was at the start of the year yet the album was released off the back of only one single and is now at ~150k sales. 'Budapest' is still slaying and he's managed another top 10 hit so easily, all before Q4/big promotion.

Posted by: SLlewellyn 21st September 2014, 04:57 PM

Had no idea this was on its 18th week, never falling lower than #16. Stunning voice, but really didn't expect this to sell/stick around as long as it has done, hope "I'm Not the Only One" can sell just as well.

"Blame It On Me" T10, thoroughly deserving!

That's a bit harsh! (But I kind of see your point!!)

In reality, no one could outdo Mariah's diva-ness. But, he sure is trying. I just despise artists that let their success cause them to think they are superior to others. It's extremely off putting.

George Ezra's album campaign has been so successful. Barely anyone knew who he was at the start of the year yet the album was released off the back of only one single and is now at ~150k sales. 'Budapest' is still slaying and he's managed another top 10 hit so easily, all before Q4/big promotion.

To be pedantic 'Budapest' was actually the 3rd single he released (after 'Did You Hear The Rain?' and 'Cassy O''), just neither of the previous ones did anything. Though the sales of the EP for 'Did You Hear The Rain?' went towards 'Budapest' anyway, hence its charting last year.

Biography
In one of the more unlikely crossover success stories, blonde Australian beauty Iggy Azalea (born Amethyst Amelia Kelly) segued from a high-profile modeling career to become a southern hip-hop star. Influenced in her childhood by Missy Elliott, TLC, and Tupac Shaqur, she moved to the states in 2006 at age 16, stating that she was drawn to the birthplace of rap. Moving from Miami to Houston to Atlanta, she absorbed the Southern-style drawl of her surroundings and released a trap-inspired mixtape titled Ignorant Art in 2011, shortly after relocating to Los Angeles. A video for her song "Pu$$y" was uploaded to the internet and became a YouTube favorite due to its explicit nature. Around this time, Azalea's blossoming relationship with rising rapper A$AP Rocky earned her some headlines (she tattooed the title of his debut album on her knuckles), but her recording career stalled when plans to work with T.I. fell through due to label conflicts. In spring of 2012, she signed to Wilhelmina Models International and pursued modeling full-time, landing a job as the "New Face of Levi's Jeans." Later that year, her musical stock skyrocketed when XXL Magazine put her on the cover of their annual Top 10 Freshman issue, alongside Danny Brown, Roscoe Dash, and French Montana. As the first female, non-American rapper to make the list, serious hip-hop fans took notice, including Diplo, who hooked up with Azalea for her follow-up mixtape, TrapGold, before she signed to Mercury Records for her official 2013 debut The New Classic. - iTunes

- iTunes

Biography
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of fourteen to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's eponymous debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. "Our Song", her third single, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 and was supported by an extensive concert tour. The record won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third album, 2010's Speak Now, sold over one million copies in its first week of US release and was supported by the Speak Now World Tour. The album's third single, "Mean", won two Grammy Awards. Swift's fourth album, Red, was released in 2012. Its opening US sales of 1.2 million were the highest recorded in a decade, with Swift becoming the only female artist to have two million-plus opening weeks. The singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. The Red Tour is visiting worldwide venues in 2013 and 2014.

I'm still convinced Taylor is saying 'bakers gonna bake' in the chorus of this.

Is this really going to peak at #4? Hope it can manage at least a week top 3 eventually but it's not looking like it so far.

Shake It Off is growing on me again. Really catchy so I don't mind it staying high in the chart (for now)

Biography
Stephen Paul Manderson (born 27 November 1983), better known by his stage name Professor Green, is a British rapper and singer-songwriter. He was signed to The Beats, a record label run by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem, until 12 February 2008, when the label terminated. He rose to success upon winning the inaugural JumpOff MySpace £50,000 battle rap tournament in July 2008. Following this in 2009, Professor Green worked with Lily Allen on her 2009 concert tour.

In 2006 he released his first mixtape, Lecture #1. After his first record label, The Beats, went under he produced on his own an EP called The Green EP. After he toured with Lily Allen he was signed to Virgin Records and released "I Need You Tonight" featuring Ed Drewett, based around INXS's "Need You Tonight" through the label. He also joined up with Allen on his second single "Just Be Good to Green", which is based around The SOS Band's "Just Be Good to Me".

In July 2010, Professor Green released his debut album, Alive Till I'm Dead, which features guest vocals from Lily Allen, Emeli Sandé, Fink, Labrinth and Example, as well as The Streets. He followed this with the album At Your Inconvenience in October 2011.

Oh, hello 2010. :-/

Posted by: Dobbo 21st September 2014, 05:35 PM

Far exceeded my expectations but I really like this! My favourite of his singles now & refreshing to hear in the charts of 2014.

Posted by: gavindeejay 21st September 2014, 05:35 PM

I like the female vocals on this. smile.gif It's just Pro Green that ruins it.

Posted by: HausofKubrick 21st September 2014, 05:35 PM

Looking at that first era again and it was SO on point. I was such a big fan of him then (shocked he was 26 at the time, i had him down as 19/20 ohmy.gif).

Second era was good too, and this has started off decently!

Posted by: Jade 21st September 2014, 05:35 PM

'Lullaby' is quite pleasant but there's something preventing me from loving it. I think the chorus sounds a few years out of date possibly?

Posted by: Riser 21st September 2014, 05:36 PM

As much as I normally like Prof Green, it's Tori's vocals that make this song enjoyable for me, otherwise it'd just be Professor Green by numbers.

I like this short edit of Lullaby. I bet it's not purchasable is it

Posted by: Chez Wombat 21st September 2014, 05:37 PM

Like others, I love the female vocals on this, she sounds great and really saves this otherwise quite unremarkable song, which sounds just like Read All About It (though I'm not sure why I expected it wouldn't)

Poor Are You Getting Enough tho, now that would've been an inspired hit sad.gif

Posted by: Therm• 21st September 2014, 05:37 PM

what a boring song. sounds like it would've gone to #4 in 2010/11, not now sleep.gif

'Remedy' 'Lullaby' is my favourite of Pro Green's top 5/10 hits, though that's not really saying a lot as none of the previous ones are highlights of his.

'Monster' > 'Remedy' > 'Jungle' > 'Lullaby' > 'Avalon' > 'I Need You Tonight' > 'Never Be A Right Time' > 'Just Be Good To Green' > 'Read All About It'

Basically all his one word titles are his best songs biggrin.gif

Biography
Favoring a naughty schoolboy look that makes him seem even younger than his already tender years (22 when his first major-label album was released), Scottish artist, producer, and remixer Calvin Harris has a similarly youthful and forward-looking approach to his music. Skipping the usual apprenticeship in the clubs or on indie labels, Harris went from posting his own D.I.Y. electroclash music online through MySpace and similar sites, to signing with the multinational giant EMI almost in a single step. A short time later, he was producing material for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, and Rihanna.

Born on January 17, 1984, in the southern Scotland city of Dumfries, Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999. Two of these songs, "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days," were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the artist name Stouffer. With that single to his credit, the still teenaged Harris moved from Scotland to London, but as a very small fish in one of the world's largest and most competitive ponds, Harris floundered; only one of his songs was released during his time in London, "Let Me Know" with vocalist Ayah on the Unabombers' 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2.

Returning home to Dumfries, Harris began posting homemade solo recordings to his MySpace page. An A&R representative from EMI liked what he heard and signed Harris to the label in 2006. Following a pair of successful singles, Harris released his debut album, I Created Disco, in the summer of 2007. It featured two Top Ten hits ("Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls"), and climbed high in the album charts. Along with his work as a solo artist, including touring in front of a full live band, Harris quickly became an in-demand remixer — working on singles by Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, All Saints, and CSS. He also wrote and produced songs for Kylie Minogue's 2007 comeback album, and collaborated with Dizzee Rascal on "Dance wiv Me," which reached number one in the U.K.

"I'm Not Alone," the first single from his second album, also hit number one upon release in April 2009, as did the album when it appeared that August. That album, Ready for the Weekend, topped the U.K. album chart and peaked at number 12 on Billboard's U.S. dance/electronic chart. Through 2011, Harris took on production work for Example, Tinchy Stryder, and Rihanna ("We Found Love," a quadruple-platinum hit in the U.S.), while he also issued two more of his own singles (the Kelis collaboration "Bounce" and "Feel So Close"). Harris' third solo album, 18 Months, was a collaboration-filled affair that featured "We Found Love" and "Bounce" plus vocal spots from Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, and Ne-Yo, among others. It was released in October of 2012.

Wasn't 'Blame' like #5 in the first mids? Good to see it only fell one place in the end.

'Changing' is of course a v predictable #1 but great to see it happening nonetheless. Another drum n bass #1 is always a good thing and Paloma finally getting a #1 as well. Wonder if Sigma's next single will be their 'The Power'?

Professor Green must be #2 on the sales chart.

Another fantastic number 1! So chuffed for both Sigma and Paloma!

Of the 2 records I'd say at the moment I prefer Blame as I've been listening to Changing for the past 2 months and I'm quite surprised the ludicrous waiting time didn't screw up the release of it like Won't Look Back.

Despise John Newman and not big on Calvin Basic Harris either. Glad for Sigma and Paloma being no.1 though. It's a shame my birthday isn't next Saturday instead of Sunday as this would have been a good no.1 to have. The apocalypse will be no.1 instead sad.gif

'Remedy' is my favourite of Pro Green's top 5/10 hits, though that's not really saying a lot as none of the previous ones are highlights of his.
