I'm sort of coming around to liking this song as Cardi's delivery has been growing on me but I still can't get past how dead the instrumental is. This isn't the kind of song that suits having such a minimalist beat.

To me it's the other way round. You don't want to overwhelm everyone with complicated production and those lyrics at the same time.

Indeed, maybe they could have gone with a Pop Smoke Dior type drill style production, with a dirty bassline to go with those lyrics!
