Dexton's Top 40 (20/03/2017) (Week 45)

Another steady week at the top for George Ezra, but with some heavy competition! A high debut for Yungen's Mind On It featuring Jess Glynne comes at #2 giving both artists their highest charting single here - following Bestie (#14) and These Days (#3). A non-mover at #3 is Ofenbach vs. Nick Waterhouse's Katchi, whilst the rest of the Top 5 is completed by Khalid's Location featuring Jorja Smith & Wretch 32 (5-4), and Imagine Dragons' Next To Me (2-5).

On the edge of the Top 5 is Blossoms' I Can't Stand It (8-6) which officially matches the bands previous peak with Chase & Status' This Moment, and also climbing within the Top 10 we have Pink's Secrets (9-7) which gives Pink her third Top 7 single. The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar's Pray For Me (4-8), and Kojo Funds & RAYE's Check (6-10) each fall four places and Cash Cash earns his first ever Top 10 hit here with Jewel featuring Nikki Vianna at #9.

Lot's of songs are climbing this week including Khalid & Normani's Love Lies (13-20), Jorja Smith x Preditah's On My Mind (18-15), Bazzi's Mine (21-20), The Wombats' Lemon To A Knife Fight (22-21), Rudimental's These Days featuring Jess Glynne, Macklemore, & Dan Caplen (24-23), RAYE's Cigarette featuring Mabel & Stefflon Don (29-27), Liam Gallagher's Paper Crown (33-32), Paramore's Rose-Colored Boy (39-36), and Post Malone's Psycho featuring Ty Dolla $ign (40-39). Love Lies climbs closer to giving Khalid his 5th Top 10 hit, a feat only previously made by Justin Timberlake.

Just six new entries enter the chart this week, although another six songs looking to enter next week would be in the 41-46 region (if my chart was that big tongue.gif). The highest new entry is Yungen's Mind On It featuring Jess Glynne at #2, followed by Lousia Johnson's Yes featuring 2 Chainz at #12. Yes is such a bop although I was a bit overwhelmed by how much is going on in less than 3 minutes running time laugh.gif A fantastic re-working of Louisa though after Best Behaviour flopped (and wasn't too great anyway). At #14 is Emma Blackery's long-awaited Dirt, which fully vibes Taylor Swift in all the best ways. Emma is a YouTuber who I've been following for a while now, she is currently vlogging away as she works on her upcoming album which makes for a very interesting (and hilarious) 20 minutes each week! Another new entry to the Top 20 is Banx & Ranx & Ella Eyre's Answerphone featuring Ynxg Bane at #18, which will be a hit here and officially I'm sure! Further down we have Taylor Swift's Delicate entering at #29, and MAX's Lights Down Low featuring gnash at #40. Lights Down Low is a song I've been sort-of listening to for a couple of months now, but I heard it on the radio on Friday and have been playing it a lot more since then laugh.gif

Unlike the bore of last week, this week the album chart is somewhat exciting! About as exciting as an album chart can be, anyway. Not to anyone's surprise, Justin Timberlake further extends his chart record as he takes a 6th week at #1, beating high competition from Khalid (!) and Eminem. Khalid's American Teen was release about a year ago however I've only just really got into the album as a whole as I realise how much of a Khalid fan I've become! Aside from the amazing singles (which Young, Dumb & Broke was robbed of a chart placing here for some reason, my bad) the album also has some great album tracks to offer - I highly recommend this... and every other album here mind you. Eminem's Revival climbs back into the Top 5 after the single release of Nowhere Fast featuring Kehani, which should grace the singles chart next week also. The first ever re-entry into my album chart comes from - of course - Taylor Swift whose Reputation has never been worse at it enters back at #7. Then a new entry right at the bottom is Logic's Bobby Tarantino II mixtape at #10 - confirming that my album chart does allow mixtapes to chart although not soundtracks (since I only really listen to 2-4 songs from soundtracks so it doesn't make much sense tongue.gif. See: The Greatest Showman & Black Panther as recent examples). Logic & Marshmello's Everyday should also enter the singles chart next week, although who knows how many amazing new singles will be release this week as last week took me way by surprise laugh.gif

Thanks for reading! wub.gif

Hi Dexton!

arrow right.gif 01 01 George Ezra — Paradise [23-6-1-1] I can't get over this being iTunes #1 after Don't Matter Now flopped so badly. What a turnaround!
ne.gif 02 00 Yungen — Mind On It (feat. Jess Glynne) [2] This is alright but nothing special IMO.
arrow down.gif 05 02 Imagine Dragons — Next To Me [4-2-2-5]
arrow up.gif 06 08 Blossoms — I Can't Stand It [17-8-6]
arrow up.gif 07 09 Pink — Secrets [39-24-16-9-7]
arrow down.gif 08 04 The Weeknd & Kendrick Lamar — Pray For Me [28-22-13-4-8]
arrow down.gif 11 07 Marshmello & Anne-Marie — Friends [7-1-3-4-7-11]
ne.gif 12 00 Louisa — Yes (feat. 2 Chainz) [12] Sounded OK on first listen but I think it will grow on me. Not sure she'll get a big hit with it though sadly.
arrow down.gif 16 11 Mabel — Fine Line (feat. Not3s) [33-25-20-14-14-9-11-16]
arrow down.gif 17 13 Vance Joy — We're Going Home [32-23-13-17]
ne.gif 18 00 Banx & Ranx & Ella Eyre — Answerphone (feat. Yxng Bane) [18] Nice chorus, very catchy. I thought this would be doing a bit better than it is actually.
arrow down.gif 19 12 Justin Timberlake — Filthy [1-1-1-2-1-1-2-5-8-12-19]
arrow up.gif 20 21 Bazzi — Mine [38-26-21-20]
arrow up.gif 21 22 The Wombats — Lemon To A Knife Fight [37-29-22-21] No Cheetah Tongue?
arrow up.gif 23 24 Rudimental — These Days (feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore, & Dan Caplen) [3-6-6-5-4-7-12-24-23]
arrow down.gif 24 19 Justin Timberlake — Say Something (feat. Chris Stapleton) [12-3-3-6-13-14-19-24]
arrow down.gif 26 17 Niall Horan — On The Loose [37-18-20-17-26] I wonder if this can become a hit now that it's finally being pushed and R1 have playlisted it? Top 40 would be great.
arrow down.gif 28 26 5 Seconds of Summer — Want You Back [40-35-26-28]
ne.gif 29 00 Taylor Swift — Delicate [29] This era has been such a let down. This is better than End Game at least but she needs to go away again and come back with some bangers!
arrow down.gif 30 15 Ed Sheeran — Supermarket Flowers [12-10-15-30]
arrow up.gif 32 33 Liam Gallagher — Paper Crown [33-32] Only the 1 place? sad.gif

Hey Mango!

I’m so glad Paradise is possibly looking at #1 next week (or close to it) wub.gif It’s a shame Don’t Matter Now flopped but I’m really getting into it now with the album!

Mind On It was very instant with me but will probably fall quick laugh.gif

Louisa flopping again tongue.gif Unpopular opinion but 2 Chainz really makes it for me tbh

Cheetah Tongue might impact for me in a few weeks tongue.gif I’m really enjoying Lemon right now and there’s so many other great songs out now dance.gif

Delicate is quickly becoming a fav from Reputation for me wub.gif This era has been a complete mess though laugh.gif

Thanks for commenting!

Hi Dexton!

Massive new entry for Mind On It! It didn't really click with me on first listen but I must give it another go bc I do love Jess Glynne wub.gif

Just given the new Cash Cash a listen - not as good as some of their other stuff for me, they still haven't beaten Broken Drum imo music.gif

Also only heard Noah Kahan this week, I wasn't expecting to like it but it's actually pretty good! The video is also quite creative

Great chart biggrin.gif
